I should have thought of this myself

I accidentally ran across this blog while searching for a certain gymnasts ugly overrated Geinger and the name has struck a cord with me. GTT should change its name to Gym critic because that is what I am:)

This girl also cannot stand Nastia so I think we are kindred spirits. (I spoke to soon she likes Gabby and thinks she has great leaps) It hasn’t been updated in a year. My favorite blog entry of hers is, Why I hate Woga

The future of USA-Gymnastics?

Simone Biles has some amazing power and I give her all the respect in the world for her upgrades but I wish she would work on the things she doesn’t do well.

Yes, like toe points and keeping knees/legs together. Form, I guess. Even her double layout half twist move on floor looks a bit messy at the end (bent knees). I hate to nit pick but hey it’s called artistic gymnastics for a reason, right?

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Yes it is called artistic gymnastics. I hope she improves in that area because I think when all is said and done she will be America’s most decorated gymnast.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I hope you’re right. She’s a true role model and a positive person overall – she seems well liked in general, and that says a lot in this sport.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

You think she’ll pass miller? And be in Tokyo in 2020? Im not sure she will hold up for two olympic cycles….

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I think she definitely could pass Miller/ASac for World medals (she’s already got 4 of them) – Olympic medals is a crap shoot and depends on A) honest judges and B) injury/growth spurts. Also, better competition from other key players, but Biles’ athletic ability is insanely better than anyone else out there right now. I don’t see others really being able to surpass her unless she messes up royally or gets injured.

Given how well Aly did in London I definitely see Biles being able to surpass that. I can see Biles getting high marks on floor and vault of course, and hanging in there for beam. Not a bars worker, but if she improves her form a bit I don’t see why not if she packs a routine with difficulty. She’s already waaaay better on bars than Aly ever was and I honestly see a lot of “Gabby” in her (in a good way).

      • uglyfatkid Says:

I agree. The only thing that makes me weary is a growth spurt. It would almost be better to have that happen now so she can hopefully get used to her body by the Olympics. I fear she will suddenly hit it right before and get screwed.

      • Catherine Says:

I think she’s pretty much done growing. I can’t see her shooting up at all. Maybe an inch or something. Her grandparents (maternal?) are both short and while her younger sister who is Level 8/9 is taller than her, she also has a very different build/frame to Simone.

  2. Catherine Says:

They should really oil their bars.

I hope she can improve in a few areas too, but if she doesn’t I won’t really mind..hard to have everything perfect.

Love the beam combinations especially. The shap half could be tidier of course but it looks like it has a lot of lift and seems to pause in the air..so cool looking.

  3. Case Says:

I’d agree she has room to tidy things up a bit….but she’s so likable and easy to root for that I wish her the best.

    • Short1 Says:

@Case. Agreed, and that’s one of the things that’s really stood out to me (especially listening to and/or reading some of the interviews during and following Worlds).

  4. Dee Says:

Just saw a commercial for the gabby Douglas story “movie” that will be on lifetime this Saturday. Let’s all watch and live comment LOL

    • Case Says:

I’m so down for that Dee.

    • Catherine Says:

Did I hear ‘And let’s all record and upload it’ for us non-Americans? So kind 😀

      • H Says:

        yes:-)

      • Dee Says:

I wish I knew how! I know it will be on you tube soon. I’m gonna record it on the DVR. I’m curious as to why this is airing now, actually. Perhaps she is coming back and this will get her back on the radar?

    • sanitynmotion Says:

I saw a quote on FB that Gabby is hoping to get back into competing this year – is that true, or just a stupid rumor? She’s not in the gym at all, right? From what I understand?

      • Karlie Says:

I saw that too…didn’t have a source but still interesting.

      • Gymbee Says:

Sometimes I really want to comment “Where’s Gabby!? Are they excluding her again?” on the photos USAG posts on fb, just to be an ass :-p

      • uglyfatkid Says:

LMAO!!! That made my day. Thanks Gymbee!

      • biyatch Says:

She told USAG she was training 6 days a week but she’s been all over the country recently promoting herself. How can you be training to be back in competition if you’re running around NY “reporting” on the Super Bowl and going on tons of talk shows.

I just hope that this movie doesn’t throw the other F5 girls under the bus. Specifically I hope they stay away from mentioning anything about the pre games Jo/Gabby “rivalry” because it could end up being super hurtful. I’m expecting something along the lines of “Gabby led the team to gold” but I just hope that this shit is done as tastefully as possible in regards to the others.

      • uglyfatkid Says:

If Gabby’s people are smart…they will leave the F5 unblemished. It will only hurt Gabby’s image if she attacks or throws shade (I can’t believe I just used that saying). They sold the “solid unit” thing before and after the Olympics, and now it would look petty and down play her accomplishments if she started it now. PLUS, if she really is coming back, that would really hurt her. Say what you want if you aren’t going to compete again, but say it while you are in it would be suicide. PLUS PLUS, if there was going to be a bombshell like that, she’d go back on Oprah or Barbra Walters to make a few bucks. She wouldn’t do it on a crappy lifetime movie that 56 people are going to see.

My guess is that it will all be focused on her past gym, and with people that aren’t commonly known (that is…if she can even use peoples real names at all). The only thing about the F5 will be how she “held the team together” and “lead them to victory by doing all 4 events.” It will be some twisted BS like that which they will sell.

PS – I wonder what extremely watered down gymnastics we will see. I have such a hard time watching crap like this because the “gymnastics” is always level 5 crap. “Oh look, she did a back handspring on beam. Ohh, a single layout on floor.” BORING.

      • uglyfatkid Says:

By the way, I have no idea what gymnastics is done at level 5…it just sounded good. 🙂

      • Exgymgurl Says:

Gabbys training at gym jam with Waller, but shes also been touring to Kylas gym, and not AOGC…… But Jordyn trains at UCLA with Waller and allegedly gabby is at gym jam under him also…. Wierd…

      • Gymbee Says:

Haha glad I made you laugh uglyfatkid 🙂

I read a while ago some article from the Olympics (not a reputable news source of course, but I can’t remember where I read it!) that said “Gabby Douglas leads team USA to 9 medals”.

First of all, leads? She wasn’t team captain. Second of all, was she “leading” the men too? I just got so annoyed that I closed the browser, and couldn’t remember where I got it :-p

      • GymMom Says:

Saw Gabby on the Today Show this morning with Regina King who is playing her mother in the Lifetime movie. Gabby claimed she’s “working out 6 days a week.” And wow…..she is a lot bigger than she was in London. Not fatter, just bigger and even more fake than ever!

      • Exgymgurl Says:

I cant get over Regina King playing Fatalie….

      • Dee Says:

Before the movie aired, there was a special called “behind the headlines” or something like that. At the end of the special, it showed her training at a cross-fit like gym with no gymnastics equipment and with a personal trainer. She looks to be in good shape, but we all know the difference between gymnastics shape and normal “good shape”. she said she has sights set on Rio, but there was no mention as to if she is with a new gymnastics coach or even in a new gym. I wonder what all the secrecy is about, or if she is even training at all. If she was at a new gym and serious about Rio, I would think that it would have been a part of the update at the end. If she was at Gym Jam, wouldn’t more people be saying that they have been seeing her working out? I mean, come on, if the current Olympic AA Champion is hanging around your gym, wouldn’t little girls be Instagramming the hell out of that?

By what I saw, there was no mention of the F5 in the ‘behind the headlines’ special. They picked up the story at the AA final, and said that she won gold with the team, but did not go into detail about the team final or the prelims with her and Jordyn at all.

Also, I noticed that there was not much said about her old gym. That kind of irritated me, since she threw them under the bus with her Oprah interview. I wonder if they were not allowed to mention her previous gym in VA or if that whole thing really was Oprah pushing her to say she was bullied. I guess we will never really know, but I found it to be interesting.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

They could be keeping quiet on the old gym so they don’t get sued.

      • Karlie Says:

eh, I can see her not wanting to focus too much on Excaliber. Besides the Oprah thing that relationship’s been pretty terrible – remember when Excaliber aired her mom’s dirty laundry just as Gabby became more successful on the gymnastics scene? IMO was really unprofessional and unfair of them, regardless of my feelings about Gabby; the whole Oprah mess and their over-the-top response just added to what was already a messy situation. So I can see why the filmmakers would want to steer mostly clear of mentioning Excaliber after all of the drama that’s happened.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

They didn’t air her dirty laundry they wanted the money they were owed and they asked for it., Natalie then left Chow’s without paying him. That women is a menace and should start paying her bills.

      • Katie Says:

Plus Gabby was the one who started the mud slinging. She was giving interviews about why she had switched to Chow’s by saying that she had told her mom that she needed better coaching immediately. That’s what started everything. Excalibur responded and said that they had been training Gabby for free while Natalie was working out her finances and they were due a lot of money. That’s when all the “racist” accusations came. It got pretty ugly. Gabby could have just said something diplomatic about the coaching change like every other gymnast does and probably none of this would have happened. I feel bad for Excalibur. They look like the bad guys for getting into a public spat with a 16 year old, but Gabby really should have known better. She said their level was beneath her, and it probably was, but there was no need to say that publically, especially when they had been more than gracious with the payments.

      • Short1 Says:

@gymtruthteller With the old gym, I agree that a lot of it could be for legal reasons. It’s like on some T.V. shows when the names of people, places, etc., are altered slightly; that may also have been why the name of her old gym was changed (I think the sign they showed said “Equilibrium” as the gym’s name…or something like that).

Slightly off topic, but I found it funny that Tim Daggett’s commentary was basically quoted word-for-word when they showed the competitions (just with a different person saying it).

      • Tortuga Says:

I found the movie to be incredibly boring. I was curious to see how they would portray the rest of the fierce five. Unfortunately none of their names were even mentioned. I know the movie was just about her but the team helped her win one of those gold medals. Anyway it was super cheesy as all gymnastics movies are. Like I’ve said many times before I wish they would make a serious documentary of the Olympic selection process and at the Olympics (for the women’s team). Follow a few of them at home, film at the camps and at competitions. Catch what they’re coaches say to them on the competition floor. It would also be great if Marta allowed the camera in the room during the final deliberation. Show people how hard gymnastics really is, and how hard it is especially for American girls to make an Olympic team. Maybe I should assemble a team and just try do it myself lol!

  5. uglyfatkid Says:

Will anyone be ably to touch her on floor with her level of difficulty? I can’t think of anyone.

With Biles floor being so hard, I wonder if Aly is worried? Not that she shouldn’t still train on floor (we still need 3 floor workers after all), but that Biles floor is going to be hard to beat. If Aly still wants to take home a gold at worlds or Olympics, she better have some beam upgrades ready…’cause if Biles can continue the way she’s going, Aly is going to have a run for her money.

    • biyatch Says:

With those upgrade Biles is at 6.6 up from 6.5. Aly’s London routine is down to a 6.4 because she loses the double pike to split leap CV. Aly showed upgrades in training videos in 2012 that we never saw added to her routines (Dos Santos I + front tuck, 2 whips + triple). There would be way more pressure to up the ante with Simone’s huge D scores. Simone give a bit more away on landings and Aly gives a bit more away on form. Kind of reminiscent of Shawn/Alicia race 2007.

      • uglyfatkid Says:

Oh wow Biyatch, I didn’t know Aly had all those upgrades. I wonder if she will be able to get them added to her competition routine? My fear with Aly is her lack of artistry and dance. Hopefully DWTS has taught her the importance of artistry and movement. It always amazed me that she never had more than a single spin on floor. Not that she needs a quad or anything, but come on…at least a double. 🙂

I’m not saying Biles is a dance/artistry masterpiece…but she is much better at it than Aly was last year. It will be interesting to see how Biles motivates Aly as things progress. It’s always good to have someone nipping at your heels so you don’t become complacent.

Either way, I like both of them. They both seem like good people, and that makes their gymnastics much more tastier to me.

      • Dee Says:

Any word on aly and her training? I hope to see her back soon, especially now if she and Simone could duel it out for floor titles. That would make it interesting!! When I look at her twitter I feel like it’s mostly ads so I didn’t know if anyone knows how her gymnastics is at this point.

    • Lyra Gill (@lygill) Says:

I can’t see any other country grabbing a team title this quad. Between Biles, Ross, Maroney, Dowell, etc., incoming seniors like Key, and potential comebacks of Raisman and Wieber, USA is shaping up to be a powerhouse for the next 3 years.

  6. GymMom Says:

Shawn is the new gymnastics analyst for the Big Ten Network. This is from the University of Iowa today. She looks in terrible shape.

    • Lyra Gill (@lygill) Says:

She doesn’t look out of shape to me – in fact, I think she looks great. She looks the same way she looked during all her London 2012 appearances, and she looked great then, and great now.

And since we’re talking about Shawn, she apparently had a management change. She’s now under Octagon Entertainment (Aly is also under Octagon, but under Octagon Sports specifically), and Nastia’s new agent is Sheryl, Shawn’s old agent. Really explains all the Nastia/Chellsie tweets of recent.

      • Akshay Says:

Wait, what do you mean by explains the Nastia/Chellsie tweets? I feel like I’m missing something here.

      • Lyra Gill (@lygill) Says:

@Akshay – Nastia and Chellsie have been tweeting and retweeting each other a lot recently, and that only began with Nastia’s agent change. Chellsie’s career is also handled by Sheryl. (I love reading into things like this so sorry lol)

      • Exgymgurl Says:

Nastia keep posting all these “Sochi Selfie” pictures. Like shes 12. How many professional NBC correspondents are posting selfies on twitter. Big hint its less than two. Shes such a dork. how she got to do the cheerleading ESPN championships for ABC when she works for NBC tells me she doesnt really work for NBC and is just being contracted job to job

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I ran across Nastia’s facebook through a friend of a friend and all she has for non friends to see is a huge folder of selfies of her. It is the most obnoxious thing I have ever seen.

      • uglyfatkid Says:

I really hope you’re right exgym. If I start watching SCAM and hear that horrid voice commentating again I’m going to lose it. She’s as useful as Al is. I may dislike Tim, but at least he has something to say.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

It also explains Chellsies tweet about Nastias Subway commercials during football… I saw that and was all really Chellsie where did that come from?

      • Katie Says:

@LyraGill- That is interesting. Shawn raved so much about Sheryl in her book and she certainly made out the most from the 2008 quad. I wonder what happened.

      • Gymbee Says:

Me too, Shawn was all like “she’s a family member!”
Didn’t the 2 of them also share a hotel room in Beijing?
Something must have happened for her to take up Nastia as a client and for Shawn to either drop her or maybe Sheryl ditched Shawn.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

GYM CONSPIRACY!!!:) I don;t know if anything happened per say but Sheryl reps a lot of gymnasts. She used to be Shannon’s agent too and wasn’t she Gabby’s agent too? I think she was and I hate to agree with Gabby like EVER but its looks like getting a different agent worked for her. Sheryl got Gabby nothing. This new agent did a much better job.

  7. GymMom Says:

Enduring this one-hour documentary about Gabby’s life….aka….complete whitewash.

    • uglyfatkid Says:

The “movie” was typical crap, but thankfully it never touched on racism or any stuff with the F5. The crap about Natalie being the best mom ever was hard to choke down though.

But I agree with you GymMom…the “documentary” was complete BS. It was worse than then movie was. I was yelling at the TV the whole time. I guess that’s what I get for watching it.

      • Case Says:

That movie should have been titled “The Glorification of Natalie Hawkins.” What a bunch of bullshit.

      • Dee Says:

        HAHAHAH
I wound up not watching the movie and just the ‘behind the headlines’ special. I have the movie on my DVR but I dont know if I will be able to stand it. I’m thinking they probably were told they couldn’t talk about the bullying, etc…either that or it was complete bunk the first time around just for publicity.

      • uglyfatkid Says:

There were some snarky remarks by some of the other gymnasts, but it I wouldn’t classify it as racist or bullying. Name one kid growing up that didn’t get picked on some way or another. It’s called life. I’m not defending people who are a-holes or that pick on people…I’m just saying that it happens to everyone and not every case is “bullying”. I’m tired of people (gabby, etc) who jump on the “bully” bandwagon just because it is the “hot” issue right now. There are serious cases of bullying, and every time someone claims they are “bullied” because someone looked at them wrong once, waters down the real bullying cases. Soon we are going to be so numb to it (because everyone and their dog nowadays is “bullied”) that the real kids who really need help aren’t going to get it.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

Im surprised they didnt call it Fatalie hawkins mother of a champion. named Brie. that made Wendy Williams cringe.

      • uglyfatkid Says:

Lol. That whole “Brie” crap was funny. It was like they were trying to give her a new nickname ’cause she doesn’t like “Gabby” anymore. When have you EVER heard her mother, siblings, or ANYONE for that matter, call her “Brie”? Let me count…ummm….never.

      • Katie Says:

And also that whole nickname debacle. When dawes appointed herself as gabbys hero and mentor and was saying that “Flying Squirrel” had racist connotations and that her new nickname was going to be golden gabby or whatever.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Gabby said her nick name was Brie awhile ago but I am pretty sure it was after the Olympics. I have a name that gets nicknamed even when you don’t want it but I always correct people.

      • Gymbee Says:

Wasn’t it before the olympics she was called “Brie” ? Didn’t her mother have a blog called “Brie’s big cheese” or something before the olympics. Where she asked for donations to go to London?

      • Short1 Says:

@uglyfatkid I completely agree when it comes to the “bullying.” Personally, I feel like ‘bullying’ has become such a catch-all category in recent years and people are so quick to classify behavior that probably would once been considered picking on/making fun of as ‘bullying.’ I think a lot of it has had to do with the media’s tendency to overuse the term. I also agree that true instances of bullying probably won’t be taken as serious as they should because people are so quick to ‘cry bullying’, so to speak (kinda like ‘crying wolf’).

It makes me think back to the alleged ‘bullying’ during the post Olympic tour…and whether it really was ‘bullying’ or people just being quick to label it as such.

Sorry for the ramble, but the Media Psych MA in me finds this topic really interesting (and I would love to do a study on the media’s overuse of the term)!

      • gymtruthteller Says:

The term Bullying is so overused. Every kid deals with bullying some of us just deal with it and others. My nephew was over weight as a ten year old and kids bullied him but they thought because he was quiet he would just take it. Well twice he shoved kids back that pushed him and he was never bullied again. Word got out.

Alicia was the queen bee and she still is. These girls want to be like her because frankly Alicia may be a bitch bit she is bad ass too. She is not only beautiful but she is confident and she played her life like she owned it and these girls bought into her persona. Alicia doesn’t need gymnasts to be her friends because she had a life outside of gymnastics where as Nastia has no friends but her gym friends. Rumor a few years ago was that Daddy Liukin paid to send Nina Kim to places with Nastia so she would have someone to be with her.

Now a days people call assault bullying. Newsflash if someone punches your kid that isn’t bullying its assault and instead of going to the school go to the cops and have that kid arrested. They will stop the BS.

      • Tortuga Says:

I always played outside as a kid, it was an everyday thing. When I was a about 7 or 8 some neighborhood girls I was playing with next door got mad at me. I have no idea why. I guess I was annoying,I was too young too remember. Anyway 2 of them pinned me against a fence while another one punched me in the face. I ran home (unfortunately only my baby sitter was home, I feel bad for her looking back) and she grabbed me by the arm and marched me over to the girls house to show her mother my black eye. The girl got in a lot of trouble but we didn’t call the cops or anything. I don’t remember ever even making it a big deal after though. And sure I got called mean things from catty girls but I never called it bullying I just rolled my eyes and went on. I just don’t get why things evolved to the way they are now.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

That was assault you should have put her ass in jail but yes back in the day kids fighting didn’t really register as anything big

      • sanitynmotion Says:

lol these days the cops would have been called and that girl would have been arrested or something. No joke.

As it is I guess my niece told a boy who was killing bumble bees that he’d better stop or she’d shoot his eye out with a bee bee gun (sound like a familiar holiday movie?) – this was during recess and she’s a second grader. Of course the boy’s mom freaked out, called for a parent-teacher conference and insisted that my niece be suspended from school and that she doesn’t feel safe with her child going there with my niece. Give me a break. That boy is going to grow up a pussy pants if he needs his mommy to fight all his battles for him. It’s not like my niece even has access to a bee bee gun nor was she really serious. Stupid kids. I mean, I did stupid shit and had stupid shit done to me that these days parents would be screaming about. It’s sad how this society is breeding a bunch of wussies. I think there’s a book out there on this subject too.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

LMAO They are way over sensitive these days with things like these. Two little girls have hit my niece and the parents were mortified that they did this. They both wrote letters of apology to her and one gave her stickers. There was no Principle called in or cops they are freaking babies for Christ sakes.

        Common sense.

  8. GymMom Says:

Calling her “Brie” was laughable. How about her sisters are “aspiring actresses?” The whole thing…movie and documentary are a huge joke. Some reviewers gave it a D-.

    • Case Says:

My personal favorite was the part about Natalie and how “all she cared about was being a lawyer” until she got knocked up the first time. Seriously the whole glorification of Natalie was just repulsive, inaccurate and over the top. We all know that bitch hasn’t paid her billllllz in years.

  9. sainabou nyang Says:

Off topic. Just amazed at how the Broncos got their asses kicked by the seahawks. I didnt care who won, but man this game was done after the second quarter.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

The game sucked. Sucky Superbowl. I was in Vegas and we were so happy not to have paid to have gone to a party to watch the game (we thought about it); we left after halftime watching it outside Caesar’s.
