The Future of Great Britain: Louise McColgan

BGtv created a montage of the future of Great Britain Gymnastics and I personally think they left out a gymnast who has a lot of potential. She made the Bars, Beam and Floor finals at the recent Espoir championships and her name is Louise McColgan.

Technically Louise is from Scotland but competes under the flag of Great Britain ( I am sure there is a yahoo question that can tell me why but I am too lazy to look it up) Regardless I loved little Louise on floor. Very expressive for a child of 11. She also has a lot of potential on beam and bars. (I couldn’t find her vault)

Check out Louise’s official website for videos.
She also has a youtube page

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Maria did a recap of Mckayla on Bones for those like me that don’t have time to watch it. I did DVR it so maybe this weekend.
Wendy Bruce has a blog where she attempts to let all us normal people know we are what we are. Wendy was one of my favorite gymnasts on the 92 team because she seemed to be the only one being a team player. She seemed to notice who the outsiders were on that team (basically anyone not from Bela) and can be seen a few times congratulating gymnasts after they competed. She was slightly older so that could be why.
This site has the Birthdays of a lot of gymnasts listed. It doesn’t have everyone but it has a lot. Thought it was interesting.
The Queen is on twitter. (Thanks lol. LOL even got a tweet from Michelle even if by accident:)
    What do you think of Catherine lyons?
    • gymtruthteller Says:
      I think she is okay. I know she swept the event finals but I was not as impressed as others with her floor. I missed all her other events. I’ll have to go look. What do you think? You know me I am never impressed with anyone .lol I blame the code really.
      • sainabou nyang Says:
        I think she has pretty form but she reminds me of polina-a little scrappy but room for improvement. I like Catherine on beam better than floor.
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        I think my problem is none of the seniors impress me. Maybe its the difficulty where as the kids don’t have the difficulty yet but they have pretty nice form and lines and a lot of the little British gymnasts I watched during their event finals actually could dance too. Its easier to be impressed with the kids I suppose.
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        I am going to watch her beam now.
  2. Emma Says:
    The montage was of the level 2 gymnasts which is the year before Espoir the level Louise, Catherine, Teal ect were competing this year. Gymnasts on the elite path in GB start with level 5 the year they turn eight then compete one per year up to and including level two. Espoirs is for two years, the years they turn 12 and 13, juniors for two years turning 14 and 15, then into seniors. Louise has another year left in Espoirs, Catherine and Teal will move to juniors next year, competing early in the year at the British along side Ellie Downie, Tyesha Mattis, and Amy Tinkler. The junior euros team from GB should be very strong.
  3. Emma Says:
    I’m the other way round 🙂
    • gymtruthteller Says:
      Every Country has their own rules so it gets to be a little much to remember who does what:)
      Who are your favorite up and comers from the UK?
  4. lol Says:
    I kind of got mixed in a group of skaters. The Shib sibs and the Kween but I am still there so it counts. 🙂
  5. Emma Says:
    It’s an exciting time here, the MAG rise began with success at junior euros, and grew from there, and it looks that a quad behind the WAG is heading in the same direction. The girls I mentioned for junior euros are really exciting, and all very different.
    Tyesha is completely unrefined at the moment, but a huge talent in terms of difficulty which will hopefully be matched by form and style as she matures.
    Ellie seems to have the competitive ability that older sister Becky is still trying to find. She is being paced really well through growth spurts, and yet earlier this year with nearly two years before she turned senior was competing double layout back to double arabian, and a good DTY. At the moment she is a little weak on bars, but i would expect upgrades there next year.
    Catherine has been more impressive this end of the year, her growth spurts over the last two years have been huge, and she’s likely pretty much done in terms of shooting up. As is normal with such huge growth she was heavier, than when she was tiny, and waiting for her strength to catch up meaning she was struggling a little compared to her outstanding performances as a tiny gymnast. I feel that the last six months she’s looked absolutely fantastic fitness wise again, and has adjusted strength and center of gravity wise. She’s really started to get her precision back, and even been able to start adding difficulty again which shown with her sweep of the British. Rochelle has done a really good job with getting her through the last two years, and I expect to again see some more upgrades through next year.
    Teal seems to be where Catherine was a yearish ago, she’s a fantastic gymnast, same gym as Gabby Jupp. If you look at her AYOF routines from earlier in the year, then this weekend’s British champs routines, you’ll see she’s growing and adjusting too. She’s slightly watered down her tumbling in this phase which is good to see, although still manged to upgrade on beam and bars. I imagine she’ll be back stronger than ever again through next year.
    Amy Tinkler is one of my favorites, she has a new double double, as well as a double layout. A standing full on beam, a high clean FTY which I’m guessing will be a DTY for 2014, She’s not been hugely strong on bars, so it will be interesting to see whether she’s upgraded for the British at the beginning of the year.
    Louise is a really promising gymnast, everything is there, and hopefully she’ll just build the difficulty over the nest few years. I like Georgia Mae Fenton too, again not such high difficulty, but great potential.
  6. Catherine Says:
    Great Britain and Northern Ireland make up the United Kingdom, but in sports come under GB. In the commonwealth games, the countries that make up GB compete individually. Also their own nationals, and Northern Euros. But internationally, boom, GB. Northern Irish athletes have the right to compete for either Ireland (republic of Ireland, where I live, which is fully independent) or GB, because they have dual citizenship rights.
    Most GB gymnasts are English, largest population by far. Raer Theaker is Welsh, Daniel Purvis and Dan Keatings are Scottish I think (not sure..), Louise is as mentioned, Scottish.
    • Catherine Says:
      I should say- England, Scotland and Wales make up Britain. Those 3 plus Northern Ireland become the United Kingdom of GB and NI. The term GB in sports is actually GB and NI but gets shortened.
  7. mim Says:
    watching that floor routine threw me for a loop.. watching a non-Aussie dance to “Waltzing Matilda” was truly weird! gorgeous routine though.
  8. Emma Says:
    I meant to add yesterday that Louise showed her new floor at the British
    All Espoir EF routines are here, Louise is first on FX, starts at 1h 53.
    This year there have been two British Espoir championships just to be confusing. The first was held in March at Pipers Vale and won by Georgia Mae Fenton with the EF taking place in Liverpool the weekend after alongside the junior and senior girls. It was decided to move the competition to Glasgow to put it on a bigger stage, and along side the boys competition (as well as the grand prix) meaning there was a second full British championships for the girls of that age this year. I’m only adding this so anyone looking for vids can check the upload date so as to know which end of the year they are watching the British from as obviously routines have changed in that time.
  9. sanitynmotion Says:
    Um, based on that recap the Bones show looks really stupid.
    And I’m following the Kween now but I don’t like she has another idiot Michelle on her background picture, bleck.
    I just came back from Boston. Damn it’s cold over there.
    • gymtruthteller Says:
      I thought the same thing.lol I love how Obama uses Dawes for his celebrity thing for youth or whatever it is. He is blatantly racist picking the black gymnast over the most decorated one and no one calls him on it.
      • sanitynmotion Says:
        The Obamas are blatantly racist – everyone knows it, even his secret service people have come out and said it. They aren’t fans of white people. But whatever.
        If you’re black and you hate white people you aren’t racist. If you’re white and say Obama is doing a bad job you’re racist. That’s today’s society for you.
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        I once complained about Obama on my real facebook and I got a note from a friend telling me how brave I was. She tried it once and all her friends called her racist. I was like those aren’t your friends. They are just idiots. A real friend would respect your opinion. I am over honest.lol Are all the people that complained about Bush racists too? No they aren’t so to hell with political correctness.
      • sanitynmotion Says:
        Exactly.
        I could never complain about Obama on my FB because too many of my friends are idiots. I like them as friends but when it comes to politics and reality, they eat what the media serves them and do not see the light. Then they wonder why they are filing BK, or can’t get a good full-time job despite their overpaid educations, or have no income after taxes are due. It’s not “all” Obama’s fault but he’s just making things worse, not better. The “change” I never bought/believed in in the first place but this change really, really sucks.
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        He made a bad situation worse. He has done nothing but lie his entire time in office and I hate his view on immigration. He lived with his illegal Uncle and said he never met him. He then had someone else be the fall guy when he got caught.
        I should shut up or this might be long.lol
      • sanitynmotion Says:
        I could go off too. All the guy does is lie. Why stupid people even believe a word he says is beyond me. He’s been lying since the start of his presidency and will continue to do so.
        I hate his immigration policies too – it’s just the Democrats’ way to buy more votes. Get more people in here to get on wellfare and charge us more in taxes because in their minds, it’s a revenue problem, not a spending problem. My ass. Yet doctors and scientists from other countries that would actually benefit our economy and society are have a hard time gaining citizenship and are told to stay home.
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        Thanks for reminding me. I need to sign up for medical I can’t afford and will never use before the end of the year. Another Obama lie.
        :Breath!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂
      • sanitynmotion Says:
        I would pay the $90 and wait/hope that next year Obamacare can’t/won’t be funded. One can hope. Hope for Change. Hardy har.
        I’m lucky for 2014 I’m “mostly” covered by my husband’s employer (still pay a lot per month, but not the full rate; and my own employer doesn’t offer a plan since we’re too small) but in 2015 costs might be so bad that his employer is threatening to eliminate healthcare as a benefit and we’ll be forced into the exchanges. I won’t be happy at all; most likely our premiums will go way up because we’re young and in that “middle class” that has to pay for everything including my sister’s food stamps and her friend’s wellfare so they can go to Disneyland on their annual passes that cost $400 plus bucks a pop.
        Rant. Sorry.
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        LOL. I hear you. The people I see using EBT for ice cream
      • Jennifer White Smith Says:
        This Obama rant is awesome!!! I have had to unfriend two Olympic gymnasts, whom I respect gymnastically (is that a word?) but was beating my head against my laptop everytime they would say how great Obama is and how he is changing our country for the better with his “affordable” health care. If I had a nickel everytime I was told I was a racist for not liking Gabby, I would be rich.
      • sanitynmotion Says:
        Which gymnasts? I guess they are just reading what the media feeds them too. Wait until they retire, have to get jobs, and realize that their pay checks do nothing for them and they are having to pay a $500+ per month deductible so all of the illegal immigrants and people in their 40s working at McDonalds can have free health care. As if it isn’t bad enough all of the baby boomers are aging and retiring even though they don’t have any money to retire on, so there’s more subsidies there.
        This country is technically bankrupt. Once the global economy shifts away from using the dollar as its reserve currency, the US won’t be able to just print money to feed themselves to pay off their interest, interest rates will increase, and the US won’t be able to afford its debt payments, much less all of those under-funded pensions that government workers get “for free” whereas the private sector workers have to ride the current of the stockmarket.
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        Who were they:) I have this thing where if you are my friend you deal with me as I am or leave. There is no one that important in my life where I will sacrifice my morals for them. I respect your opinion so respect mine.
      • Jen Smith Says:
        It didn’t bother me that they support the ACA and President, but I wanted them to understand that not everyone can afford the rates. It was Kathy Johnson Clark (and her husband chimmed in on her fb page talking about, “Well, in 3 years he will have his SAG card insurance and medicare because he’s an actor” and Missy Marlowe was the other. I’m like you, gtt. We can agree to disagree, you have your opinion and i can have mine and this was there pages so I chose to leave. It’s only facebook, for god’s sake. I couldn’t seem to get Kathy especially to understand that she lives a pretty affluent lifestyle. And so maybe they can afford Obamacare but that doesn’t mean I can and I shouldn’t be taxed for it. But anywho.
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        I know about Kathy and her bleeding heart husband. Lets just say her bragging about only paying 15 thousand dollars for health insurance made me literally fall off the chair laughing. I know people that make only a few thousand dollars than that and they have to live on it to survive.
        I am sure Kathy is a nice person and same with her husband but they don’t live in the real world. They pay in medical what people make yearly. They just don’t understand how the little people live.
        I don’t think its fair that rich people have to pay for poor people’s medical and I am poor. Like I said I am lucky I live with my boyfriend or I would be spending my nights eating ramon noodles like a College student.
        I am lucky that I live with my boyfriend of I would be renting a room in someones house. I can’t afford medical insurance.
        Here is the problem I have with Obama supporters. No matter what he does they support it. He taps our phones and they blame Bush because he put that into ” law “. What Obama supporters don’t want to acknowledge is that Obama is the one that changed the Bush “law” and made it even easier for him to spy on innocent American citizens.
        Obama lies about keeping your health insurance and they make excuses.
        Obama lies saying if he is elected (Then re-elected)he will bring our troops home. 6 years later, still waiting
        He puts us trillions of dollars in debt its Bush’s fault because a million years ago we were already in debt.
        The whole Trayvon Martin situation. Telling the department of justice to start a race war with Jessie Jackson to frame Zimmerman for a crime HE NEVER SHOULD HAVE BEN CHARGED FOR and they make excuses for him.
        A few years ago there were some break ins in a neighborhood and a then College professor was locked out of his house so he tried going through the window and one of the neighbors didn’t know it was him so the called the cops. The Professor was a total jackass to the cop when the cop asked for identification so the cop handcuffed him and then he said the cop was racial profiling him (which he wasn’t someone called the cops and the cop was doing his job)and the President immediately said the cop was racist and Obama forced the cop to play nice with the idiot professor and made him come to the White House.
        The situation has nothing to do with race but Obama made it about race and his fans made excuses for Obama.
        Obama should be impeached. He’s a liar and the immature way he handles things makes a mockery out of this Country.
        Urgh
      • sanitynmotion Says:
        Obama is a bonafide racist – only in this country, it’s not racist if it’s against white people, or “white Mexicans,” whatever that is.
        What’s funny is everyone is just so focused on how “far” we’ve come, nominating a black president. He’s not even black; he’s half-white and yet that’s all kept on the DL because he’s not proud of that part. It’s all about his black father, you know, the guy he met once or twice and had multiple kids with other women and practiced polygamy and was outright anti-US.
        The last election we had a black Republican guy (forget his name) try to run in the prelims but the Democrats were quick to put him down and get him out of the way; can you imagine a black Republican going against this President? No way! Dems had no chance if the black vote was going to be split up – or at least they thought.
        Obama has upped the debt more times over than Bush did – and it’s still increasing. If interest rates go up (they will have to eventually) guess what – we no longer can afford the interest payments on that debt. We are essentially BK with China about to take us over and nobody gives a darn as long as they continue to get their hand-outs at the taxpayer’s expense. The US keeps printing money to buy its own bonds to pay the debt and that maneuver will go to shit once the US dollar is no longer the global reserve currency – China is working on that too.
        I also love how the Bureau of Labor stats indicate that CPI indices are very low and so is cost of living yet they think we are morons because they don’t include gas/energy/healthcare…all those have increased by double digits. Even milk costs more but they hide it by putting it in smaller containers and charging the same price.
        Under this government I would have more disposable income if I divorced my husband, had a child out of wedlock, and started working at McDonalds part-time. How is that even acceptable? Yet we are accepting it. Nothing like a “free” hand-out.
        I could go on for days about all the crap Obama and this government does but I’ll stop.
      • Jennifer White Smith Says:
        GTT, I never mentioned how much KJC said she paid! If you could see my eyes right now! They are as big as saucers!
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        It was over 15 thousand and she seemed fine with it. She just seems clueless on real life. She lives in a fantasy world
    • gymtruthteller Says:
      Bones is actually a cute show but it is way too gross for me anymore. I love all the characters and it can be funny but its still gross.
      If anyone cares I just bought my tickets for Nationals for Ice Skating. Ladies SP and LP with my nieces and BFF Riley ( Quinn is not invited thanks to her almost getting thrown out of the building last time.lol)
      • mim Says:
        I still love bones but it’s better days are behind us.
        the gymnastics episode was kinda sad. mckayla’s acting wasn’t awful, wasn’t great. she basically had one scene and was believable enough. it was when her character was supposed to be shocked that thought “this girl needs an acting coach.”
      • Uglyfatkid Says:
        Nice GTT!!! It was interesting watching the Grand Prix Finals last week. Wagner might be able to pull off a bronze metal at the Olympics if she can clean some stuff up. I’m not a huge fan, but I would rather see her get it than Costner.
        I hope Yuna is better and is competing well when it comes around. I want to see her and Mao duke it out.
        Ohhhh, did you see the interview with Patrick Chan after the comp? I’ve never really disliked him, but after the interview he went down quite a few notches for me. He came in second, and said that he has won enough Grand Prix Finals, so he could “let him (I can’t remember his name, but he was an awesome skater from Japan) have this one.” Chan completely fell apart in the short program, the gets all cocky and arrogant when he loses and basically says he let the kid from Japan win. What an A-hole. It made me look at him in a completely different light. He was such a sore loser. He didn’t even have the balls to say that he screwed up and that’s why he lost. He didn’t choke…he “gave it to him.” What BS.
        Who are you rooting for both men and women at nationals, and at the Olympics? Who are your top 3?
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        I hate Chan. He is so arrogant I really want to see him choke like he did at the last Olympics. Even if he hits I want him to lose. He’s a beautiful skater when he is on but the overscoring he gets like at last years Worlds is a joke.
        As for the Olympics I want to see Mao Asada win. Any of the classy Japanese skaters winning is fine with me. I am okay with Yuna winning too. She won last time and she really is a class above everyone else.
        When it comes to the US I don’t like any of them. I think Ashley is the best overall skater we have but Gracie Gold is horrible. She can jump and looks like a fish out of water on the ice. She has no fluidity or flow. Everything about her skating is gross to me. Her jumps are good but highly overrated.
        I think both of them will make the US team because it is as fixed as gymnastics and the USFSA people like Agnes Zawadzki but I really want to see Rachael Flatt kick ass at Nationals and get the third sport because that will send GGMB into a tizzy and that will be fun to watch.lol
        As for the men I am all Dasiuke Takahashi. I want him to win so badly. I really hope he puts together a performance of a life time and win. I thought he should have had at least silver last year and I wouldn’t have been against him winning gold over Evan. He has it all and he is what skating should be about. ANYONE but Chan and his ego.
        I am not a pairs fan at all I don’t know a single team and for Ice Dancing I want the Americans to win because I felt they should have won 4 years ago and would have won if the Olympics were not in Canada. I also like the Shibutani’s be scored fairly. They get screwed every year.
        Who I think will win is easy. Yuna , Mao and that little Russia girl will win because there is no way the Russians don’t cheat.
        I don’t know about pairs but probably Russian. I think so far the US Ice Dancing team will win based on scoring this year and the mens I have no clue. Chan will win if he stands up but I hope he falls.
        Worlds are in Boston next year and I really want to see Yuna and Mao show up even though I know they won’t.
      • Uglyfatkid Says:
        By the way, anyone can chime in here (not just GTT). Who do you want to win nationals or the Olympics? I’d love to discuss.
      • Uglyfatkid Says:
        I completely agree with Chan. Beautiful skater, but his attitude is lowering my opinion of him. I LOVE Takahashi! His program a few weeks ago really moved me. It was a work of art. I would love for him to win it all too.
        I agree with you on the ladies too. Love Mao and Yuna. I would be okay with either of them winning. At this point, I’m actually rooting for Wagner for 3rd. I think she’ll choke though. I had NO idea Flatt was still competing?!? If she is I hope she takes nationals. That would be hilarious!! You are probably right though, the little Russian girl will probably metal. Unless she completely falls all over the place (which won’t happen because she actually is a pretty consistent skater) I think she’ll take the bronze metal.
        I am rooting for Davis and White for sure in ice dancing. Their only real competition is the Canadian team who won the last Olympics, and I am struggling to like them. Watch the way they mount the ice before they begin. It is outstandingly arrogant to me. I want to run out on the ice and body check them every time. Lol.
        They said that Yuna and Mao are retiring this year after the Olympics, so I don’t know if you will get to see them at worlds. That sucks bad. I’m sorry!
        For pairs, I really want the German team to win. They edged out the Russians at the Final, and I hope they can do it again at the Olympics. The Russian team is really good though, and if they win I won’t be mad. I like them too, I just like the German team more for some reason.
        By the way, how old are your nieces?
  10. gymnerd Says:
    Is Louise McColgan by any chance the daughter of (former distance runner) Liz Lynch McColgan? Or is McColgan the UK equivalent of “Smith”? I’m pretty sure LLMcC was an Olympian.
    Aaaaaaannddd…I am not a Gold fan, like this new Jason guy for US men, wouldn’t mind seeing Mao get an OGM eight years after she SHOULD have had her first one, if not for those pesky age rules that her federation actually follows.
    • gymtruthteller Says:
      No/ Liz has 5 kids
      Eilish, Martin, Eamonn, Kieran and Orla according to wikipedia. No Louise
      • exgymgurl Says:
        Are grace gold and that other girl going to the Olympics? Do we even have one slot for the men? Is anyone doing a twizzle? Are that brother and sister still pairs skating? Is there still tons of drama in usfsa? Okay that’s all I know about current figure skaters…. and Nastia / Vera Wang boyfriend isn’t going
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        LOL. Men have 2 spots. Team hasn’t been named yet and only drama is Johnny Weird working for Russia and gay people wanting him removed as a commentator. The whole drama is over my head.
      • sanitynmotion Says:
        I’m so over figure skating in general. I used to be obsessed when Michelle Kwan was still in the picture but haven’t had the heart since. I do know Mao and Yuna (does Brian Orser still coach her?) but it’s like the whole figure skating excitement doesn’t exist for me anymore. I used to follow the men too even!
        Now I don’t even know who any of these guys are that you all are talking about. Guess I’m going to be a 4 year fan. Yikes.
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        I am just as bad. Unless its Nationals or worlds I don;’t pay attention. I missed most of the grand prix season because I forgot it was going on.
        I have been going back and forth about Nationals for months and just bought tickets because they are in Boston this year. It is what it is
      • sanitynmotion Says:
        You should write a blog about it – even though it isn’t gymnastics 🙂
        I’d be curious. I’m not even going to bother watching nationals, that’s how bad I am.
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        I probably will when Nationals actually starts but right now ZzZzZzZzZZZZZzzzzzzz:)
    • Uglyfatkid Says:
      @Gymnerd – I liked the Jason kid too the one time I saw him on the Grand Prix circuit. His spins are crazy good. He’ll have to upgrade to a quad or two though if he wants to be competitive. Nationals will be interesting for the men. I wonder who will end up going to the Olympics?
  11. Exgymgurl Says:
    Okay USA gymnastics. Thanks for letting me know its Sam peszecks birthday. I don’t know how Id have gotten through life not knowing that. I haven’t seen USA gymnastics send public birthday greetings to that many gymnasts so sam must be exceptional in the us like Nadia or Khorkina. Or maybe its just because her mommy is director of th womens program. I guess we’ll never know for sure.
    • Akshay Says:
      I know they did that for McKayla a few days ago, and I definitely remember them wishing Nastia and maybe Gabby too. Regardless, they definitely seem to pick and choose.
      • nero Says:
        Ummm, it’s USA gymnastics. Of course they’re going to wish a happy birthday to American gymnasts, why would they wish a happy birthday to gymnasts who aren’t in their program? I doubt the Italian gymnastics facebook page would wish a happy birthday to Simone or Kyla.
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        No one expects them to wish a foreign gymnast a Happy Birthday but if they are going to pick a Gymnast perhaps someone that accomplished something would be a good idea over the lady in charge’s daughter who has two team medals one where she didn’t even compete. They continue to do nothing for their best gymnast of all time but find time to wish a Happy Birthday to Sam.
