I will be at work so if someone could update I would greatly appreciate and yes I know the banner has Kyla again but I saved this picture and couldn’t find a different one of a beamer

You can make all your banners of Ross. I heart that kid and I’m loving everyone’s meltdowns over her success. It would make me really happy if she won another two medals today. (Can you imagine if she takes floor bronze? People are going to flip their shit.) I prefer steadiness over flash.
Also, enjoying the fact that Biles could leave with another two golds today, depending on how the other fare on beam. Maybe Iordache can hold it together to stay on the apparatus.
October 6, 2013 at 7:54 AM |
I hope Musta ot Ross win beam, but that might be unrealistic …
And that girl from Japan medal on floor:-)
October 6, 2013 at 9:16 AM
I think Ross could have a chance…if the others all make mistakes (as usual). Mustafina’s knee will probably prevent her from being wobble free. I love her fire–there is no one else with her grit and talent competing today. She’s worth a zillion Kerri Strugs because she proves it to us over and over again.
It would be awesome if Murakami medals!
October 6, 2013 at 12:47 PM |
Watching mens vault finals. Seeing the guys throw double fronts, some successful but most landing deep, and thinking that Pena attempts to do that makes me giggle. Sorry.
October 6, 2013 at 1:01 PM |

I’m surprised naysayers still find kyla “boring” or “without personality”….. how much can you really show when focusing so hard on bars or beam anyway? she seems more regal than anything!
October 6, 2013 at 1:08 PM |
Mustafina beam: 14.9
October 6, 2013 at 1:08 PM |
Beam!
Aliya good set, 14.9, E 8.9
October 6, 2013 at 1:13 PM |
Ferlito: 14.283 (I can’t get on the feed, so just following the scores haha.)
October 6, 2013 at 1:17 PM |
Aliya did an enquiry about something that was rejected.
October 6, 2013 at 1:18 PM |
I can’t wait to watch and feel the excitement of it all!
October 6, 2013 at 1:19 PM
me too DL! I hardly have working Internet (away for the weekend) and i can only get enough to read on twitter!
October 6, 2013 at 1:29 PM
I wish I was watching the BBC feed of this. I enjoy their commentary. But right now I’m kind of excited about the fact that Mustafina actually rocked her beam set. I guess it’s up to Iordache now to hit.
October 6, 2013 at 1:48 PM
Usagym is posting all event finals on youtube. It’s FIG coverage with no commentary. The best.
October 6, 2013 at 1:17 PM |
Ferrari: 14.3
October 6, 2013 at 1:19 PM |
Aliya left the floor after her inquiry was rejected.
Lots and lots and lots of glitter and shine and bling all over the gymnasts. I hate to say it- the hair glitter is back.
October 6, 2013 at 1:20 PM |
At some angles the hair glitter looks like dandruff.
October 6, 2013 at 1:25 PM
ha! You are right. An then would have matching dandruff on their eyes too!
October 6, 2013 at 1:19 PM |
Shang: 14.133
October 6, 2013 at 1:24 PM |
and simone inquiring now?? inquiries all around!
October 6, 2013 at 1:25 PM |
Oh! What’s the story?
October 6, 2013 at 1:25 PM |
Biles, also 14.133 and tied for 4.
October 6, 2013 at 1:26 PM |
Ross: 14.733
October 6, 2013 at 1:27 PM |
Beautiful confident routine from Kyla. 14.733 in 2nd.
October 6, 2013 at 1:27 PM |
Larissa off beam on full
October 6, 2013 at 1:30 PM |
Whoa, another silver for Ross then? And who would have thought, gold for Mustafina! I suppose Rodionova has yet to go, but I don’t remember her beam in qualifications because particularly spectacular.
October 6, 2013 at 1:31 PM |
13.933 Larissa
looks like she’s going to cry
October 6, 2013 at 1:31 PM
Really sucks for her–she was so solid in qualifications.
October 6, 2013 at 1:29 PM |
Kyla: 14.733
BBC showed an over the shoulder shot of Aliya adding up what she thinks her score should have been.
October 6, 2013 at 1:33 PM |
Yes and she’s a lefty. Who knew?
And I’m posting too quickly- I need to slow down 🙂 So says WordPress…
October 6, 2013 at 1:33 PM
Haha I noticed the same 🙂
October 6, 2013 at 1:31 PM |
Iordache: 13.933
October 6, 2013 at 1:31 PM |
Kyla inquiry submitted
October 6, 2013 at 1:32 PM |
This is such a dramatic final.
October 6, 2013 at 1:32 PM |
woooo!
October 6, 2013 at 1:34 PM
14.833 for kyla.
October 6, 2013 at 1:33 PM |
It would be incredible if her inquiry was accepted and gives her gold.
October 6, 2013 at 1:33 PM |
I think the US is being greedy with medals. I will be upset if Kyla wins over Mustafina. Common. Her routine was not as creative!!! So they got Simone a medal by doing an inquiry. She went from 5th to 3rd???? She had severe deductions in her routine. The judges love the America!!!
October 6, 2013 at 1:35 PM |
Wow, 5th to 3rd…tight final. Scores so far (not sure if Ross inquiry is complete):
1 MUSTAFINA Aliya RUS
14.900
2 ROSS Kyla USA
14.833
3 BILES Simone USA
14.333
4 FERRARI Vanessa ITA
14.300
5 FERLITO Carlotta ITA
14.283
6 SHANG Chunsong CHN
14.133
7 IORDACHE Larisa Andreea ROU
13.933
8 RODIONOVA Anna RUS
13.100
October 6, 2013 at 1:36 PM
Ah okay, those the final scores. Awesome job, Mustafina!
October 6, 2013 at 1:35 PM |
how on earth is it “greedy”?! it’s a competition for crying out loud, not games at pre school!
October 6, 2013 at 1:38 PM
I just meant that it seems like the US is not happy without a medal. I understand it is a competition:) It seems like after Olympics they are hoping for same result as inquiry resulted in medal for Aly on beam. I just think that it wasn’t warranted for Simone’s case or Kyla’s. They both scored much lower in AA and qualifications and the routines were also well done and Simone had significant errors in this routine! Just check out dismount and balance checks with one being pretty big.
October 6, 2013 at 1:39 PM
I am thinking the same? If they feel there’s been a mistake in the judging, they are entitled to speak up, same as Russia did. It’s up to the judges if they grant it or not. Only way judging will improve, instead of competitors going “oh we have a medal already, whatever.”
October 6, 2013 at 1:41 PM
But it obviously was warranted in Simone’s case. Judges thought so too 🙂
October 6, 2013 at 10:37 PM
Not your (or any of our) call it whether was warranted or not. It’s an objective inquiry into the D-score. The judges found that it was warranted as to both Americans. Under those circumstances, referring to the Americans pejoratively as being medal-greedy is just cheap anti-Americanism.
October 6, 2013 at 2:15 PM |
Blame the idiot judges that are inept and can’t get the start values right in the first place.
October 9, 2013 at 8:17 PM |
Doesn’t matter what country you’re from. If you think the judges erred, then you’d submit an inquiry too if you were smart and thought there was reason. I mean, Musty’s score was still first and she submitted an inquiry. Is she greedy? No, she wants it all to be fair, which makes sense.
October 9, 2013 at 10:32 PM
Some Countries cannot afford the fee for this. If I remember correctly from what I read is that you pay a fee and if you are right you get the money back but if you are wrong they keep the money and I think I read somewhere it is 300 bucks. This could all be from my imagination but I could have sworn I read this before.
October 9, 2013 at 10:37 PM
If that’s the case then that’s super wrong. I think you’re right though wasn’t the fee like $500 in London? I remember Mihai busting out the cash I think.
Shouldn’t penalize the athletes for crap judges, but that is gymnastics.
October 9, 2013 at 10:41 PM
I guess they want to make sure that everyone doesn’t do it. Romania could not afford that price. I think if there is a decision on start value all routines should be looked at but hearing that the US had things already written down ready to go protest rubbed me the wrong way. They were looking for an excuse to get their start value bumped up. It worked.
October 9, 2013 at 10:46 PM
I can see it if they were preparing themselves for this, but the beam judges didn’t deduct them in prior rounds, did they? Kyla’s they did but not Simone’s, right? I haven’t watched the routines yet. It worked but I honestly think maybe there needs to be someone specifically in charge of the D score on these apparatuses and no contest on that. But what do I know.
October 9, 2013 at 10:48 PM
A judges one job is to decide the difficulty score and they can’t even get that right. They need to be fired.
October 6, 2013 at 1:36 PM |
Well, they did up only the American’s scores in the end. Ross and Simone got an increase in their scores but Mustafina’s inquiry was not accepted? Strange finals!! Mustafina wins!!!! Ross gets another silver medal as does Biles. I don’t know if Ross will upgrade if she keeps getting rewarded ala she who shall not be named. I am happy that elegance and beauty is now being appreciated and rewarded by the judges. Go Kyla!!!
October 6, 2013 at 1:38 PM |
Musty 14.9
Ross 14.833
Biles 14.333
Ferrari 14.3
Me thinks Ferrari got screwed a little and may have deserved that bronze.
October 6, 2013 at 1:40 PM
I did feel bad for Ferrari but US has more power. Simone had some big mistakes in her beam final and I think she scored about the same as she did in the AA when she didn’t have mistakes???
October 6, 2013 at 1:44 PM
I feel the same …
October 6, 2013 at 1:39 PM |
clearly the beam judging was off if they kept getting inquiring and accepted more than one! terrible. they should be judging properly in the first instance.
October 6, 2013 at 1:41 PM
Yeah, Mustafina clearly scored higher here, but didn’t she have a better routine than in the AA or qualifications?
October 6, 2013 at 1:45 PM
Mustafina was better today.
October 6, 2013 at 1:37 PM |
OMG OMG OMG OMG
Aliya is World Balance Beam Champion.
October 6, 2013 at 1:38 PM |
Who would have thought? What a trooper.
October 6, 2013 at 1:41 PM
and eye makeup like a boss
October 6, 2013 at 1:41 PM
In spite of that strange final, she came out on top. Even going first. Happy for her- that routine was gorgeous and her diva face ruled the podium!
October 6, 2013 at 1:43 PM
Ditto that:-)
October 6, 2013 at 1:45 PM
I love her eye makeup! Totally piles it on like a boss haha.
October 6, 2013 at 3:19 PM
So proud of Aliya! What a boss. 2 bronze and a gold (again) after her surgically-constructed knee was clearly bothering her.
Side note – I thought her beam was underscored in the AA, but eh, whatevs.
October 6, 2013 at 1:40 PM |
Hurray, so happy for gold to Mustafina!!!
Great for Kyla, but would be fun if Ferrari had got a medal shared with Simone …
October 6, 2013 at 1:42 PM |
What were up with all the inquiries? Connections mistakes or calculated elements wrong, anyone know?
October 6, 2013 at 1:48 PM |
Connection bonuses according to Beth Tweddle 🙂
October 6, 2013 at 1:53 PM
So glad you’re sharing the commentary. I’m watching the Universal Sports feed here in the US. Since my cable provider doesn’t carry Universal, I can’t sign in and get commentary. The only time I miss the chatter is during things like inquiries.
A BIG thanks to you Gymbee and all who are passing on the official word!
October 6, 2013 at 2:02 PM |
Thanks Gymbee:-)
October 6, 2013 at 1:42 PM |
So the medal tally after 4 events for US girls is 7. Impressive.
October 6, 2013 at 1:45 PM |
I am hoping these 3 silvers for Kyla will fuel her enough to want to win gold next! 🙂
October 6, 2013 at 1:48 PM |
Musty genuinely happy and smiling on podium. All 3 seem happy. And that raspberry color is pretty on Kyla.
October 6, 2013 at 1:58 PM |
Musty made sure to hold the medal right side up this time so Simone doesn’t correct her again haha.
October 6, 2013 at 1:50 PM |
Kyla and Mustafina same height, who would have thought … at least not me
October 6, 2013 at 1:58 PM |
I noticed too! I was surprised, thought Kyla was much taller! Makes me relieved in a way.
October 6, 2013 at 1:53 PM |
I will have a good laugh if Ross wins silver on floor. Looking forward to reading everyone’s play-by-play in 30 minutes!
October 6, 2013 at 2:17 PM |
OMG how amazing if kyla got a floor medal. we’ll all be eating out words with her lack of upgrades lol.
October 6, 2013 at 2:05 PM |
Regarding d-score, does Vanessa have a chance to medal on floor?
October 6, 2013 at 2:12 PM |
I honestly think its crap that Simone got a beam medal. Ferrari should have done an inquiry and found another 0.10. I think Kylas inquiry was initially for 0.2 and she missed one tenth and got one. Simone was awful and so sloppy and Ferrari wasnt. I hope that the judges find a way to pay her back in floor final. I just wish Iordache had hit and knocked simone out of the medals. I love simone but this was not deserved. Sorry. And Kyla did miss connection, as did Mustafina. But Kyla would have won had she stuck her dismount.
October 6, 2013 at 2:33 PM |
I agree with you on Simone and Vanessa on beam. Ferrari deserved the bronze.
Vanessa just owned the floor. Nicely stuck tumbling.
October 6, 2013 at 2:14 PM |
At least Simone isnt falling all over the place like Gabby did.
October 6, 2013 at 2:16 PM |
anyone watching catch musty calculating her own D score? just saw a pic of it on twitter. this makes me love her even more!
im so disappointed larisa fell. no point being fantastic if you can’t compete it when it counts. such a shame!
October 6, 2013 at 2:20 PM |
Yep, and really appreciated it! I love to see gymnasts actually knowing what is going on.
I can’t remember who said they didn’t have a clue about points or scoring, I want to say it was Gabby or Shawn? I remember reading a quote and thinking that whoever it was should show a bigger interest.
October 6, 2013 at 2:28 PM
you would think that given it’s their career the ones with no clue should show more interest!
October 6, 2013 at 2:41 PM
I’m not sure about this one, but I’m thinking it was Gabby. Shawn in her book said that whole thing about how she did math in her head and tried to figure out how much she needed to overtake Nastia and realized she couldn’t do it.
October 6, 2013 at 10:39 PM
Not sure re: Gabby. I know she has said that she is a scoreboard watcher, so it wouldn’t surprise me if she took an active interest in how the scores were put together. I haven’t heard her say that she is clueless about points or scoring. It’s honestly a remark that would surprise me from her, but I guess it’s possible.
October 6, 2013 at 2:30 PM |
apparently Ellie black is competing floor now..?
October 6, 2013 at 2:32 PM |
wasn’t she an alternate? or am I confused (likely).
October 6, 2013 at 2:34 PM |
Who pulled out?
October 6, 2013 at 2:35 PM
no one I think, it’s just my 1am brain getting muddled!
October 6, 2013 at 2:38 PM |
Good I like Ellie.
October 6, 2013 at 2:30 PM |
Ferrari up first on floor- she changed her leotard
October 6, 2013 at 2:33 PM |
Vanessa Ferrar: 14.633. D:6.2
October 6, 2013 at 2:34 PM |
Murakami now. First 2 passes perfect.
October 6, 2013 at 2:37 PM |
Score: 14.466
October 6, 2013 at 2:37 PM |
did anyone see the timer on ferrari’s scoreboard? apparently it was on 0.06 seconds before she event started and people are saying that larissa’s beam timer was off… was this looked into? ditto mckayla’s quals floor?
October 6, 2013 at 2:38 PM |
same with mai’s floor apparently. anyone notice?
longines, not really selling your brand well here!
October 6, 2013 at 2:38 PM |
Simone! First pass double double, hop back.
Tiny hop forwards on her double lay half.
October 6, 2013 at 2:40 PM |
3rd: 2.5 tiny hop back.
full twist double back tiny hop back.
Good routine, just a wee bit unprecise on landings.
15.000
October 6, 2013 at 2:41 PM |
Biles 15.00 1st for now
October 6, 2013 at 2:44 PM |
D 6.5 E 8.5
October 6, 2013 at 2:44 PM |
Iordache:
1st: doubledouble: good landing, tiny hop
2nd: full twist double: tiny hop forward.
Didn’t do her quadruple spin, lost her way, just made it a triple.
Lovely triple twist.
Double pike good.
14.600
October 6, 2013 at 2:48 PM |
Steingruber: 14.333
October 6, 2013 at 2:49 PM |
Steingrubber 14.33
Sandra next
October 6, 2013 at 2:50 PM |
Izbasa, timing is definitely off! timer starts at 00:16 but gets reset to zero a bit less than a second into her routine.
October 6, 2013 at 2:53 PM |
people said it was on 6 seconds in for Vanessa and mai! and that the timer starts when the girls salute not when their music starts.
what is going on? this is making me think Mac’s timing was fine in qualifications.
October 6, 2013 at 3:04 PM
Same here, McKayla was less than a second out!
October 6, 2013 at 2:52 PM |
what happened to sandra?? 😦
October 6, 2013 at 2:52 PM |
Sandra falls! 😦 on her last tumble.
October 6, 2013 at 2:52 PM |
Izbasa falls on the same last tumbling element as the Olympics. Otherwise a very pretty routine.
October 6, 2013 at 2:53 PM |
On her 2.5 twist into her full twist, lands low on the full twist, and puts her hands down.
13.733
October 6, 2013 at 2:55 PM |
Kyla now. Very nice first pass.
Gorgoues second pass.
October 6, 2013 at 2:56 PM |
Kyla: 14.333
October 9, 2013 at 8:24 PM |
Didn’t she score that the other two times she’s performed floor? That’s pretty damned consistent. Again, time to upgrade. 🙂
October 6, 2013 at 2:56 PM |
Ferrari medals.
October 6, 2013 at 2:58 PM |
That makes me happy…I feel like Ferrari always gets bumped out.
October 6, 2013 at 2:59 PM |
Good- and she went first too. Happy for her. Definitely deserved.
October 6, 2013 at 2:57 PM |
Kyla 14.333 in 5th
October 6, 2013 at 2:57 PM |
5th 😦 oh well, she looked so good!!
October 6, 2013 at 3:00 PM |
Yeah she did! Maybe this will push her to upgrade.
And Simone wins again!
October 6, 2013 at 3:03 PM
From your mouth to Martas ears!
October 6, 2013 at 3:06 PM
I’m hoping she’s proved herself enough to Marta. now let the girl upgrade! 🙂
October 6, 2013 at 3:03 PM |
Truth! very excited for Simone. She is just too sweet.
Good thing is, this shows Kyla can be up there with the best on floor if she just upgrades a little bit of her tumbling. So glad to see clean and consistent finally be rewarded this Worlds.
October 6, 2013 at 3:45 PM
So happy for Team USA! Simone and Kyla definitely rocked it this year.
Simone is a badass. Not much else I can say. I just hope we haven’t seen her peak and she sticks around this entire quad (and she stays healthy).
Kyla definitely proved that her clean and consistent gymnastics can be counted on. Not only did she do well on her best events, but she also proved that she can be counted on for both vault and floor if need be. If she stays healthy, she’ll definitely be a mainstay for team USA this entire quad. I just hope her consistent silvers this year fuels her fire to not only upgrade but also to be even more clean and more consistent in the future.
October 6, 2013 at 6:29 PM
I feel like the saying “slow and steady wins the race” is very fitting for Kyla. Although I wish she would upgrade just a tad.
October 6, 2013 at 2:59 PM |
Iordache medals too.
Yay.
October 6, 2013 at 3:00 PM |
Please with this podium!
October 6, 2013 at 3:01 PM
me too! very happy for the medalists!
October 6, 2013 at 3:03 PM
ditto:-)
October 6, 2013 at 3:02 PM |
Great podium!
1. Biles 15.00
2. Ferrari 14.633
3, Iordache 14.6
October 6, 2013 at 3:06 PM |
yea! Glad to see Ferrari and Iordache not leave empty handed.
October 6, 2013 at 3:08 PM |
Very happy with that result! Also thought Isbaza was gracious and went out like a champ.
October 6, 2013 at 3:10 PM
I only caught the feed in time to see Kyla, I will have to youtube Isbaza later. Was this really her last time competing? I will miss her.
October 6, 2013 at 6:27 PM
They will probably ask her to come back out of retirement if she goes 🙂
October 6, 2013 at 3:06 PM |
High Bar last final.
Mikulak: 15.566
October 6, 2013 at 3:12 PM |
Uchimura: 15.633
October 6, 2013 at 3:13 PM |
Bretschneider: 15.158
October 6, 2013 at 3:15 PM |
Olympic Champion Zonderland into first with 16.000
October 6, 2013 at 3:08 PM |
Is Simone wearing the same leo as AA finals? It sure looks like it but not sure.
October 6, 2013 at 3:08 PM |
hahaha
basically because he is American but I really hate Sam Mikulak. OMG. annoying.
October 6, 2013 at 3:17 PM |
haha I really like him because he’s happy. I think the American male gymnasts are always a lot more animated than the others because of NCAA where it’s one big sausage/testosterone fest all day everyday. I can see how it would annoy others!!
October 6, 2013 at 6:26 PM
I like him too. Same with Epke and Fabian, they show some happiness!
October 6, 2013 at 6:34 PM
haha I love him for pretty much that reason 🙂
October 6, 2013 at 3:33 PM |
Does anyone remember a few years back there was a male American gymnast who was annoying everyone by yelling really loud out on the competition floor. Who was it? I don’t remember.
October 6, 2013 at 5:06 PM
Could you be talking about Chris brooks? I remember gtt mentioned him a few times for being obnoxious.
October 6, 2013 at 3:11 PM |
OMG apparently Biles is vile and disgusting just like Raisman and Aliya is the most artististic gymnast by leap and bounds and saved the world champs.
OMG I love Mustafina but some of her stans are crazy.
October 6, 2013 at 3:15 PM |
Help a dummy please- stans?
October 6, 2013 at 3:16 PM
Haha I thought stans was Eminem fans.
October 6, 2013 at 3:17 PM
stans = crazy fans.
October 6, 2013 at 3:18 PM
Urban Dictionary: Stan
Based on the central character in the Eminem song of the same name, a “stan” is an overzealous maniacal fan for any celebrity or athlete.
October 6, 2013 at 3:18 PM
Ha! Good one Gymbee
October 6, 2013 at 3:22 PM
Thanks for the help there. I thought maybe it was a combo of stalker and fan. I fully admit I am seriously out of it with these things.
October 6, 2013 at 3:29 PM
Stalker fans – stans
October 6, 2013 at 3:16 PM |
it’s one thing to have a fave but another to completely discount other gymnasts because of it. some of those people sound cray.
October 6, 2013 at 3:23 PM |
is this tumblr talk? lol i dont even venture onto that
October 6, 2013 at 10:42 PM |
LOL. I like both Biles and Mustafina, but I don’t like the rampant anti-Americanism that comes out from some of the gymternet that prefers athletes from other countries. Maybe it’s because I feel that the pro-American fans are generally good about cheering on good gymnastics from other countries without hating on Russia/Russians, China/Chinese, etc.
October 6, 2013 at 10:51 PM
Every 4 year US fans and idiots like IG are every bit as bad as the Russian fans from tumblr. Go read IG where Nastia is Queen and Gabby is a saint.
October 6, 2013 at 3:13 PM |
That cutie Epke is up now…
October 6, 2013 at 3:17 PM |
And he nailed it. 16.00!! Wow
October 6, 2013 at 3:17 PM |
he’s so lovely it doesn’t even matter that his bar routine isn’t perfect. sigh.
October 6, 2013 at 3:21 PM
His routine may not be perfect but he just might be 😉
October 6, 2013 at 3:25 PM |
The announcer is really lovin’ on Hambuechen hahaha
October 6, 2013 at 3:27 PM |
ok someone must know
who is writing slash fiction for Hambuchen and Zonderland.
October 6, 2013 at 3:30 PM |
HAHAHA OMG just choked on my cheerios. Please let me know if you find this.
October 6, 2013 at 3:38 PM |
Men’s PB medal ceremony, there was a tie for 1st? To tie with Kohei…woah.
October 6, 2013 at 3:55 PM |
Yes tie for gold. Chinese gymnast. It was nice to see Orozco back on the podium too. The PB final was exciting.
October 6, 2013 at 3:58 PM
I missed it, maybe I’ll watch it later. I was surprised and happy to see Orozco back on the podium, he’s come a long way since getting injured after London.
October 6, 2013 at 6:35 PM
What was it again? ACL?
October 6, 2013 at 4:10 PM |
Overall thoughts on Worlds:
– The difference between the top 6-8 and the rest of the field is huge. – Musty is such a diva and I love that. She competed through pain and came out with a nice medal haul. Add beam World Champ to her many titles.
– This was Simone’s coming out party an she did it right.
– This was also Kyla’s first Worlds and she looked super comfortable and confident. Now maybe Marta will let her upgrade. And I hate it that Marta has that type of control over the athletes.
– I still feel bad for Brenna
– Why does Bruno go by Professor Bruno Grandi?
– The look and style this year was really flashy leos and makeup with very tight clean buns with matching shiny scrunchies. Who decides this?
Judging was its usual uneven self. With the inquiries and changes on beam, maybe Nelli needs to retrain her judges.
– I see that this whole “reputation” business is still part of scoring. I wish it weren’t the case. It should be fair and unbiased.
Finally- I can think of no place I’d rather be during these big competitions than right HERE with all of you! Thanks very much for all the great chatter and commentary. Was lots of fun as usual.
Thanks GTT for this great place!
October 6, 2013 at 6:24 PM |
Nice sum up!
Grandi served as “professor of physical education at the high institute of physical education in Rome”. I asked my husband whose Italian whether you have to be a professor to get a title like that, but he wasn’t sure.
Nice to see McKayla with a nice bun, I think she said Marta told her she had to have one, or else cut her hair or something haha.
Ditto your last sentiment. Love having this place, and I love that there is no fighting! 🙂
October 7, 2013 at 6:49 AM
Agree with both of you about loving this place.
October 6, 2013 at 4:49 PM |
I think its good that Beth Tweddle is the athlete rep. She can take a lot of what the Italians and Russians are saying to the tech comittee. They need absolute clarification on what is and what is not a connected routine bonus.
October 6, 2013 at 5:16 PM |
The trio of Maroney, Ross and Biles are going to push the likes of Chellsie, Alicia, Dawes, Shawn and possibly Nastia down in the most US decorated list. World + Olympics breaks down like this
Chellsie 5th with 7- 6 World 1 Olympic
Shawn 5th with 7- 3 World 4 Olympic
Dawes 4th with 8- 4 world 4 Olympic
Alicia 3rd with 11- 10 world 1 Olympic
Nastia 2nd with 14- 9 world 5 Olympic
Shannon 1st with 16- 9 world 7 Olympic
Mckayla is the closest with 5. 3 world and 2 Olympic. Now let’s say she makes the US team the next 2 worlds. She’ll have 9 medals with 2 vault and 2 team. Puts her 4th! And that’s without a floor medal (a possibility) and an AA (hey, if she gets the TTY anything can happen!)
Kyla has 4. 3 world and 1 Olympic. The next two worlds; 2 for team, 1 for bars 1 for beam 1 for AA. (I went a little conservative, I think she’ll upgrade but I think she’ll have tougher competition) That would be 9 for Kyla putting tied with Mac for 4th!
Simone has 4 world medals. So 2 for team 1 for AA, 2 for vault and 2 for floor. (Again, I think she’ll have tough competition in the AA but if she’s there she’s a pretty safe bet for vault and floor medals) That’s 11 medals for Simone and she’s tied with Alicia!!
Yes I know anything can happen, they could get hurt, they could bomb at camp and not make the team but I firmly believe this Trio is going to be the core for team USA the next few years. So without factoring in Rio these three could potentially be the top 5 gymnasts the USA has ever produced!
October 6, 2013 at 6:41 PM |
If Ohashi comes back I dont see where the likes of Jordyn or Aly fit in. Aly had better start getting back to camp and so should Katelyn. And Jordyn away from Geddert is probably the best thing for her. McKayla and Kyla are doing all the right things. If the team is cut to four for Rio I only see Simone, a healthy Katelyn, Kyla, McKayla, and maybe someone like Bailie Key or Laurie Hernandez ( one of the juniors because in an interview Marta pointed out we have these 13 year olds…..you know she has an eye on a few)
Now Im wondering Kyla said she grew two inches and had to do a lot of AB / Core to stay where she is. I think thats why she wasnt at American Cup…..
October 6, 2013 at 11:49 PM
I agree with exgymgurl. I’d also add that while I love Jordyn’s and Aly’s work ethics, personalities, and sportswomanship … I honestly just prefer the gymnastics of the current crop. Mac and Kyla do gorgeous gymnastics; Simone does difficult skills with such exuberant personality. I will say that I’d put Gabby in my list of preferred gymnasts (by gymnastics, not personality) as well, but not holding my breath re: that comeback.
October 6, 2013 at 5:48 PM |
Posting again because this is the most beautiful thing I have ever read. Lauren deserves some flowers, a box of chocolates, a kiss from Phillip Boy….no she deserves to marry Phillip Boy after this!
http://tellmeimgood.tumblr.com/post/63278266555/avatareverlark-candycoateddoom-idiots-the#notes
October 6, 2013 at 6:19 PM |
Thanks for sharing! I absolutely agree.
October 6, 2013 at 6:35 PM |
Even Aliya said she was most surprised by the American consistency yesterday. Lauren is right on
October 6, 2013 at 6:47 PM |
Dang Lauren…love it but never would have seen that tone coming from her. She always seems so prim and proper on Couch Gymnast. Ha ha.
October 6, 2013 at 7:00 PM
I check her tumblr all the time. She’s constantly saying she’s plotting how to murder her horrible suite-mates lol!!
I can’t stand Vik. He is one of the most obnoxious hypocritical people I’ve ever seen on tumblr. I was giddy when Lauren ripped him a new asshole
October 6, 2013 at 7:19 PM |
Totally agree with the assessment on Vik. He’s so annoying, and I was thrilled when Lauren let him have it.
Oh GTT, in case if you’re curious who Vik is, he’s the guy who accused you of always being biased against the Russians and Nastia and defending the Americans all the time.
Also, nero… what is your Tumblr?
October 6, 2013 at 7:42 PM
I don’t really have one haha. Just to reblog pictures of places where I want to travel. I don’t follow anybody or engage in any gymnast chatter. Which is good I think. I wouldn’t be able to take it.
It’s also why I don’t have a youtube account. I really don’t want to get sucked into that cesspool. People on there have called Kyla a bitch and ugly. Princess Kyla a bitch??? And Kyla Ross and ugly should never be in the same sentence.
October 6, 2013 at 10:47 PM |
PREACH.
October 6, 2013 at 8:58 PM |
Nastia is supporting the dumbest thing eveer…. that Sasha Cohen allegedly invented. The best is the picture where Sasha looks surprised at the snapping socks. http://snoxxsocks.com/index.php
October 6, 2013 at 10:25 PM |
LMAO That is the dumbest thing ever. It will sell millions. All my sox are white so I won’t be buying it and Sasha should have tried this years ago when her fanatical fanbase existed.
October 6, 2013 at 11:18 PM |
Hahaha I googled this after I saw nastias photos! The buttons look like they’d be irritating on the ankles when wearing shoes. Haha.
October 7, 2013 at 1:52 AM |
My son was supposed to come up with a useful personal or household item when he was in grade school. He invented something called “SockMate”, only he used Velcro instead of snaps. We both decided it wasn’t really practical, but he had to come up with something for school. Too bad we didn’t market it then!
October 7, 2013 at 2:04 AM
SUE HER. I am sure she was hiding in your bedroom when she heard the discussion.lol Can you believe people funded this?
October 7, 2013 at 2:39 AM
did you see the surprised look on sashas face.. like OMG I can find socks that match. Dude mismatched socks are all the rage with the kiddos
October 8, 2013 at 2:03 AM
GTT My son’s reaction when I linked to the site was, ” Holy Crap! Hit Sasha up for some royaltie$!”
I find it hilarious they went with snaps-they hold the best but are really uncomfortable!
October 7, 2013 at 2:59 AM |
Someone on WWGym said that Nastia now has the same agent Shawn does/did. Hmm. I wondered what happened between her and Evan Whats-His-Nuts.
October 7, 2013 at 3:04 AM
Nastia got a new agent but she was Boston based not Shawn’s agent. This happened along time ago.
October 7, 2013 at 4:31 AM
That’s weird. In nastias bio on twitter she lists having the same agent as Shawn (Sheryl), so I dunno.
October 7, 2013 at 5:06 AM |
I wondered how long it would be before Sasha/nastia appeared on here LOL. Sashtia!!
I think they are friends bc Sasha skated to Dark Eyes and that was nastias floor music…
October 7, 2013 at 12:00 AM |
Kyla was no more interesting in person than on a screen. BORING. Lots of disappointment today and Mai’s score was a disgrace. I got a photo with her and Asuka which made my year. And another with Raducan but way more excited about Mai..
October 9, 2013 at 8:38 PM |
You should post it! 🙂 They truly underscored Mai this whole competition it looks like.
October 7, 2013 at 2:12 AM |
Word is Katelyn is dropping down to level 10 and has enrolled in a real school, planning the NCAA route. And Marta wants Aly at the camp at the end of the November and told her to keep training AA. You can tell in some of the pictures of her from worlds that she’s already dropping weight.
There aren’t that many turning senior in 2014 that are set to make a splash. I have a soft spot for Amelia but she’s going to have trouble making an impact. Marta seems to have a particular distaste for Nica and she’s a bit 2nd class to Bailie at TD it seems. If Paulina could ever get her shit together on bars her D is huge but that has yet to be seen.
Looking at the trio from world in a 3 up/3 count for 2014:
VT: Mac, Simone, ??
UB: Kyla, Simone?, ??
BB: Kyla, Simone?, ??
FX: Simone, Mac, ??
If Aly is back with 6.5 routines on beam and floor she can plug in there because you know she can hit with good scores. If I were Aly I wouldn’t bother getting the amanar back because she had an awesome DTY that can probably outscore her crappy Amanar. I would also love for her to maybe upgrade her last pass on floor to a full-in and add the front tuck to the Dos Santos that we saw her working at the beginning of 2012. (This is probably unrealistic but whatcha gonna do.)
I know Kyla beat Mac on floor but McKayla still has the higher scoring potential. Simone would be a good Jo type leadoff on bars but her beam still leaves a lot to be desired (and yeah I think Vanessa was totally robbed of that medal.) Lexie or Brenna can both contribute decent D scores on bars plus Amanars and Lexie has a huge floor routine.
October 7, 2013 at 2:25 AM |
A worlds team of biles, kyla, maroney, dowell, Peyton , and Amelia is my prediction. Both amelia and Peyton are good table setters.
Vault: Peyton/kyla, biles, maroney
Bars: Peyton/amelia, biles, kyla
Beam: Peyton/amelia, kyla, Simone
Floor: dowell, maroney, biles
Peyton would be a good back up for vault because she has a good dty. Dowell is another good back up for vault and maybe bars.
October 7, 2013 at 3:09 AM
Someone we never thought of will show up before Marta allows Amelia on a world team. She seems to hate MLT girls
October 7, 2013 at 9:49 PM
Yes Amelia and Lexie will get the pan am treatment. An MLT can be the head coach. Along with the Texas Dreams girls.
October 7, 2013 at 2:29 AM |
You could totally tell Aly had dropped a ton of weight from the GK booth photo she tweeted. Ohashi doesnt surprise me but its sad. three cities, seattle, gage and woga all to go L10 / college with that much beam and bars talent. Its sad….We need another Amanar and Jordyns bar routine. Or EBees. Although Marta said she sees Brenna on the 2014 world team….. Brenna fills the slot and gets paid back for getting screwed so Marta could collect 8 out of 10 possible medals and not piss off McKayla Maroney
October 7, 2013 at 3:08 AM
Her face lookedskinnier to me. I like how Mihai told her don’t come back until you are ready to be serious.
October 7, 2013 at 11:26 AM
I don’t think marta’s face was genuine when she said she saw brenna on the worlds team next year. she practically grimaced as she said it!
shame about kaitlyn but if that makes her happy than go for it!
October 7, 2013 at 3:06 AM |
Polina’s form is crap. I don’t think Mckayla is as much of a lock as you do because I honestly don’t see her as an AA gymnast and her floor was still not much higher than Kyla’s and Kyla has a 5.7 start value.
Like I said it is way too early to discuss this.
October 7, 2013 at 2:37 AM |
If Ebees healthy shes so much better than Peyton on bars and Beam…. No one without an amanar will ever vault in TF, so she needs 3 amanars, and only has 2. Im pretty sure Marta would prefer 4 amanars and last I checked, Peyton doesnt have one and Brenna and Aly and EBee do… if they are all healthy. I dont see Marta taking Amelia anywhere but to Alabama….If Aly is back
quals is
Vault: Aly, Ross, Biles, Maroney ( Only to let Ross try to qual for AA)
Beam: EBee/ Brenna / Jordyn, Aly, Ross, Biles
Bars: Aly, EBee/ Brenna / Jordyn, Biles, Ross
Floor: Ross, Maroney, Aly, Biles
If Aly is back and Marta wants her there is only one spot available and thats a bars / beam specialist that needs to be amazing at Bars. This tells me its EBee or Jordyn. Unless Brenna suddenly gets clean
October 7, 2013 at 3:04 AM |
It is way to early for this discussion.lol
October 7, 2013 at 2:42 AM |
Lexie is also possible… Id like to see Ross given the opportunity to qualify for AA though. Marta may only use 4 gymnasts in quals Something tells me Jordyn wont be back.
October 7, 2013 at 10:25 AM |
But but but Gabby Douglas is coming back with a vengeance…just ask her Mom!
October 7, 2013 at 10:47 AM |
Yes, she’s like, training and stuff!
October 7, 2013 at 4:09 PM |
I just spit out my coffee LOL
October 7, 2013 at 11:23 AM |
apparently there is an interview with carlotta ferlito after beam finals where she flat out says it was a disgrace that simone got bronze and she re-enacted simone’s dismount to show how supposedly crap it was. brutally honest or bad sportsmanship? I’m inclined to think “suck it up and show some more class” but if it was true (havent seen beam finals!) maybe it’s more excuseble. gah I still think it’s bitchy.
i should add I’m yet to see ANY finals for myself, just kept up with quick hrs via twitter as I had woeful Internet access.
October 7, 2013 at 11:45 AM |
I read the interview. I am in split minds. On the one hand, show some class, but on the other hand, this is the only way FIG will see that people are unhappy with the judges.
But she seemed to complain that the US always put in inquiries – her country can do it too! If FIG doesn’t want inquiries they shouldn’t accept them.
Beam finals was ridiculous though, it should be an eye opener for FIG that they got 3 inquiries and they accepted 2 of them. I personally think Ferrari and Ferlito’s beam sets were better than Simone’s also.
Also, nice to see some passion in gymnastics 🙂
October 7, 2013 at 2:35 PM |
She also apparently told Italian media that after AA that her and Vanessa would have to paint their faces black in order to medal…
October 7, 2013 at 2:58 PM
I may just be really out of the loop here but did you guys know that Carlotta either was featured on a show on MTV in Italy or she has her own show, not sure which. I saw the interview after beam but do you guys have some links to the other ones? I’m interested.
October 7, 2013 at 3:10 PM
Oh my god, that is horrible! But Italy as a society is kinda racist.
http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2013/jul/15/ignorant-racists-italy-cecile-kyenge?view=mobile
October 7, 2013 at 3:12 PM
Yes, its a show called “Ginnaste – vite parallele” (gymnasts, parallel lives)
October 7, 2013 at 3:15 PM
Here’s a trailer for the 3rd season: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWNYPxdOl8A
October 8, 2013 at 6:40 AM
OMFG just saw the responses to this..
yeah.. coz aliya is BLACK, carlotta. major eye roll.
October 7, 2013 at 3:48 PM |
Well…unfortunately Ferlito may have overridden her valid points about judging/placement with blatant racism. Pretty sure the rest of her rant will fall on deaf ears after the black face comment.
Piss off, Italy. Oh and Carlotta, you aren’t even the best gymnast in your own country so go away.
October 7, 2013 at 4:26 PM |
So true. She raises some good points and I feel a lot of people agree about Simone’s bronze on beam, unfortunately she will not be heard after the comments about painting the skin black. It just makes her sound like a racist spoiled brat. Slightly different note (i’m still ranting about tumblr) I’m disappointed that so many people hate American gymnasts. They can’t help that their muscle makes them look thicker. I don’t think Musty or Ferrari are pixies either. Really Komova is the only pixie gymnast I’ve seen from Russia lately.
October 7, 2013 at 5:42 PM
I prefer the “thicker look.” Honestly, I have a hard time watching the Chinese gymnasts b/c I think they look starved. I wonder if they hardly ever get to eat.
October 7, 2013 at 6:16 PM
Ferrari is the definition of a curvy muscular gymnast. And Simone is so tiny that yes, she looks more muscular, but who cares? Good grief, people.
October 7, 2013 at 7:18 PM
To be honest, I think half of the people who say they hate the US girls is pissed off Romanian fans who are sad their gymnasts aren’t getting it right. There’s plenty of muscular girls from other countries.
I prefer that look too.
October 9, 2013 at 8:54 PM
The thicker look is more prevalent now in gymnastics. Thicker meaning healthy and muscular, lean muscle for power. The Chinese do look sick – partly why they look so young – and no wonder they have issues finding someone that can vault a DTY, much less a 1.5 twist. Heck.
I think Izbasa and Ponor are slightly thicker and Iordache doesn’t look starved. Komova and maybe Grishina are the only Russians who have that waif look but even so, it’s not to the point where they look like they will break if they land too hard.
Honestly it’s disappointing to hear these comments from Italy. Guess now I don’t feel so bad that their country is literally broke and they are feeding off of Germany.
October 7, 2013 at 5:56 PM |
I’m in a cranky mood anyways because my baseball team is not getting it done. I’m taking it out on Italy now.
October 7, 2013 at 9:29 PM
Sorry Case but it is not over yet. The Red Sox have come back from down two games in the playoffs multiple times and don’t forget 2004. We did it to Oakland actually in the ALDS in 2003 (http://scores.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=231006111) and we were down 3-1 to Cleveland in 2007 and in maybe 99 to Cleveland
October 7, 2013 at 4:19 PM |
I guess my response to the Italy/gymternet stuff is that I was creepin’ on facebook yesterday and saw a post by a person that traveled with the USA team to these worlds and said that during the last scheduled training the day before the AA, the USA team was the ONLY team to show up in the training hall. So…to all those out there complaining about the USA women’s medal haul, what is there to say about that?
October 7, 2013 at 7:21 PM |
According to her Instagram Ferlito was out and about having Belgian waffles with her bf day before AA.
October 7, 2013 at 9:46 PM
Yeah I dont even think Marta let them split one after the competition
October 7, 2013 at 9:53 PM
Hahaha probably not 🙂
October 8, 2013 at 6:42 AM
yep, carlotta is now definitely on my blacklist for the racist comments.
no pun intended.
October 7, 2013 at 10:33 PM |
Saw somewhere on tumblr that maybe (just maybe) Aly, Nastia and Jordyn were talking on twitter about how they think the Chinese gymnasts (Shang Chunsong in particular) were underaged. I think these were the tweets wherein Aly apparently sent Jordyn and Nastia a picture and Nastia replied with #sheis17 #ornot. Jordyn also replied with #not17.
At first I thought they were perhaps poking fun at maybe how childish Aly is despite being 17 and then I realized she’s 19 now so there goes that theory…
Hmmmm…
October 7, 2013 at 10:50 PM |
Nastia is just a sore loser and apparently Jordyn and Aly are her knew followers.
October 7, 2013 at 10:52 PM |
Someone using the name Gigi sends me all the twitter stuff. She sent me this yesterday. Nastia is to immature and un-professional to be a commentator
October 8, 2013 at 1:04 AM |
To be fair to Aly… she sent a private text message. Nastia and Jordyn made it public. I think they can say whatever they want to each other privately… its what they feel. Its when they make tweets to their thousands of followers that it becomes an issue.
October 8, 2013 at 6:46 AM
surprised jordyn would publicly get involved in such stuff. and with nastia no less. shame shame.
yeah, SC looks all of 10 years old but a) she is asian and lots of asian girls look younger and age AMAZINGLY (so jealous), b) they probably are on a different diet purely due to culture and training so are smaller and c) she’s a great gymnast with lots of potential so who bloody cares!
October 8, 2013 at 7:11 AM
actually upon another look, when you really look at her face, she’s quite mature looking, she does look like a teenager… it’s just because her body is SO TINY. she’s basically the chinese simone biles in body types.
October 8, 2013 at 8:25 AM
With Marta going “cute baby” not surprised. Talk about leading with example! Nastia would of course make it public. She adores attention.
October 8, 2013 at 8:49 PM
Where did Jordyn make it public? Didn’t see that.
October 9, 2013 at 2:12 AM
she just commented back via twitter being all “hahahahah yeah nastia #not17” or whatever.
October 9, 2013 at 2:48 AM
ah, thanks for the heads up.
October 13, 2013 at 2:14 AM |
GTT your second fave person interviewed 😉 – http://rewritingrussiangymnastics.blogspot.co.uk/2013/10/nelli-kim-russian-gymnastics-has-closed.html
interested to see people dissect this. so many things she misses the point entirely. and i can’t believe she’s viewed as a credible, legitimate person still. ugh.
nellie is wrong:
– mckayla doesn’t smile during competition, she has ultimate game face.
– simone’s coach is american so no USA success isn’t due to foreign coaches. and others have had american coaches, shannon miller yes?
– russia’s going down the gurgler thanks to this valentina lady being vindictive and putting politics before anything else. that and they refuse to see the value of sports psychologists which many of their girls need (grishy, demy and vika come to mind)
– and this lovely gem from the interview – “Frankly speaking, I feel uneasy when gymnasts with an athletic, not gymnastic body, become world champions. Their performances lack elegance, finesse.”
screw you nelly kim. they are first and foremost ATHLETES so yeah, they’re going to look athletic. not malnourished and waif like as if they are from oliver twist.
blah nellie kim blah. hypocrite, you live in the US and probably take all the good from it but basically talk them down. real nice.
