  1. Catherine Says:

Well I’ll be back for subdiv 5 but of course no livestream for the one I can make.

I’m really curious to see if the scoring holds up. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with yesterday’s scoring, unless it isn’t consistent. I don’t want to see Mustafina getting 9.2 e score on bars for instance.

  2. H Says:

    Exciting … here we go:-)

  3. DL Says:

Shang looks so tiny on floor. 13.766

  4. H Says:

nabieva ok bars , bitt messy legs dismount. + lack of 100 percent handstand

  5. DL Says:

Grr, I don’t think they showed Ferlito’s beam, which I wanted to see. 14.216

  6. H Says:

Biles stuck dismount, many good handstands, absolutely ok

  7. H Says:

    Nab. bars 14.533 6.0 D

  8. H Says:

    Biles 14.8 D score 6.0 bars

  9. mimi Says:

simone on bars, my feed froze at the end- it looked like she stuck her dismount! i thought i caught a leg sep and almost went just a tad too far back on her handstand but otherwise AWESOME.

  10. H Says:

Biles is up for beam next ….

  11. biyatch Says:

Simone got the highest D score given so far on bars… not so sure about that.

  12. H Says:

If she can stay on the beam she should be fine, should she not?

  13. biyatch Says:

Make or break it time for Simone on beam. She hits here, I think she runs away with it.

  14. biyatch Says:

Hit set! Couple of balance checks and steps out of her punch front. Amazing dismount.

  15. H Says:

    Biles, beam:wobble , mini wobble x 2, otherwise ok

  16. mimi Says:

a few wobbles but STAYED ON hallelujah!

  17. H Says:

They did not show Nabievas beam

  18. biyatch Says:

    Biles 14.4 (6.1/8.3) into 3rd

  19. H Says:

    14.4 D score 6.1 Biles beam

  20. biyatch Says:

Chuso is such a badass. Into 3rd on vault, hope she can hold on to make the final.

  21. H Says:

Oksana chus. made prob vault fina:-)

  22. H Says:

There is .499 in favor Ross-Biles after bars beam

  23. H Says:

    Biles enter floor

  24. DL Says:

Biles landed the double layout with a half twist yes!

  25. H Says:

    perfect first pass

  26. H Says:

    low landing the second pass

  27. H Says:

    perfect third pass

  28. biyatch Says:

    Simone 15.033

  29. H Says:

very good work from Biles on floor

    • Dee Says:

I had to watch the routine twice in a row, could not believe it. I can’t remember the last time I saw someone that happy to be out there competing. You go, Simone!!

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I have to winder if she is really this happy or if she just puts on a brave front but I must admit I like this kid.

  30. mimi Says:

and now double layout half = THE BILES yeah??

  31. biyatch Says:

  32. H Says:

There is a very small difference between Simone and Kylas bars score, I thought Kyla was more ahead on bars?

  33. biyatch Says:

Simone’s 3 event score is higher than 2 gymnasts 2 event score.

  34. mimi Says:

    will simone crack 60?

  35. Tortuga Says:

Big amanar. Bit of a hop also. Curious what the score will be.

  36. H Says:

    Biles vault_15.900 AA 60.133

    • DL Says:

Awesome! Also, it’s pretty clear that even if Ross is perfect there’s no way AA gold will be hers.

      • Tortuga Says:

But seeing Simone’s difficulty it evened out more than I expected. There’s less than a point between them.

      • DL Says:

Biles was shaky on beam and had some iffy moments on floor (which was still good, but not heartstoppingly great).

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Again, it will take someone else to mess up + Kyla has to be perfect in order for Kyla to take home gold.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

We knew this before the competition.lol

  37. biyatch Says:

    15.9, 14.8, 14.4, 15.033–60.133
Moves into first on vault with a 15.55 average .301 over Hong
    9.6 E on both vaults

  38. H Says:

Does any have an overview of, for time being, the top 8 for each apparatus?

    • DL Says:

  44. biyatch Says:

  45. mimi Says:

shang chunsong’s beam was TOP NOTCH. simply stunning the girl doesn’t wobble.

she looks all of 10 years old but with gymnastics like that i wouldn’t even care ha.

    • DL Says:

Dammit, my feed froze and I thought it was over. Was wondering how she did. She looked awesome in podium training.

  46. H Says:

Have they started sub 4, I cant seem to find the youtube link?

    iiiik ๐Ÿ™‚

  47. mimi Says:

ahhh and at almost midnight im off to bed. have fun watching everyone! i’ll be keenly reading up on how mckayla does tomorrow morning!

  48. Case Says:

I thought Simone looked awesome. She could land herself a vault gold too if McKayla pulls a London.

All the pressure is on Mac. Let’s see how she handles it.

  49. exgymgurl Says:

I think Kyla is in a good space to make beam / bars / AA finals. Only Maroney can kick her out of AA. I think McKayla will be higher on floor. The only big names we have left are Mustafina, Iordache, Izbasa possibly Ferrari. Im glad Chunsong is doing well. Love her. I think we can all take a breath on the scoring because its very nit picky on E score today as well.

  50. exgymgurl Says:

Oh and I think BIles has a busy week with four event finals and AA

  51. H Says:

Anyone remembering the d-score to Mckylas ?

  52. H Says:

Lordache lost her grip, x-sving , no handstands .. not very good

  53. H Says:

Mustafina, beam: big wobble side salto, got her first but not second connection. and hmmm

  54. H Says:

    Iordache 13.166

  55. DL Says:

Very bizarre to see someone competing to Wieber’s music from the last two years.

  56. biyatch Says:

Mac hits but her score is tied with Kyla and Kyla beats her because she has the higher E. This also pretty much kills Maroney’s AA hope.

  57. biyatch Says:

  58. H Says:

    Ok good Mckyla ๐Ÿ™‚
    I was so nerves …

  59. biyatch Says:

And Musty SITS DOWN the double arabian

  60. H Says:

You tube shuts down me sigh

  61. biyatch Says:

    Mac Vault
    6.3, 9.55- 15.85
    6.0, 9.433- 15.433

15.641 total– .091 ahead of Simone

  62. exgymgurl Says:

So Kyla to AA and three event finals and Simone to 4 EF and AA and McKayla to Vault. Dying for Brenna Dowell, because there is no way McKayla should be competing Bars and Beam at this point.

  63. biyatch Says:

Nice routine from Larissa. Jumps into a lead by a mile with 15.266 (6.4)

  64. biyatch Says:

Vanessa into 2nd on floor with a 14.5 (6.3). I would love to see her medal after the injustice last summer in London.

  65. biyatch Says:

McKayla 14.3 on bars. Breaks 14 internationally for the first time in her career.

    • Tortuga Says:

All things considered I still think McKayla did well today and should be proud. Unless if beam tanks. I do wish she would have made floor finals, but hey we can’t have everything we want.

  66. biyatch Says:

Musty fall on 2nd vault. 14.966 on DTY. Currently sits 7th in vault standings. Iordache 14.5 on floor tied with Vanessa but ahead on E.

  67. exgymgurl Says:

So McKayla needs 14.688 or better on beam to knock Kyla out of AA.

  68. exgymgurl Says:

    sorry 14.718 or better

  69. exgymgurl Says:

Well the points the same. Probably not happening.

  70. Tortuga Says:

Which score counts toward all around, highest scoring vault or the average of both?

  71. biyatch Says:

Mac beam, wobble pike punch front. Off on side aerial.

  72. biyatch Says:

    McKayla 57.149. Brenna got SCREWED.

  73. biyatch Says:

    As of now…
    AA 1. Simone 2. Kyla (McKayla 6th)
    VT 1. McKayla 2. Simone
    UB 2. Kyla 5. Simone (McKayla 10th)
    BB 3. Kyla 5. Simone (McKayla 31st)
    FX 1. Simone 5. Kyla (McKayla 6th)

  74. exgymgurl Says:

Only thing I can figure is Marta is trying to hammer on the two per country rule. If shes got 3AA gymnasts top 10 they should all be given a spot. Same with floor final because McKayla has potential to be better and Kyla really cant go up that much more. So we lose a medal because of the 2/ country rule.

  75. exgymgurl Says:

GTT I know you think Kyla could do floor upgrades. I wonder if we get to see them in an event final situation. She may as well go for broke because without them she wont medal. I wonder on beam and bars as well. I dont think Simone has more difficulty in her tank, but if Kyla upgraded for EF….????

  76. Case Says:

Ouch…two per country rule knocks Mac out of AA (6th), UB finals (10th) and FX finals (6th).

    That rule sucks donkey.

  77. Case Says:

After Mac’s beam performance Al Fong probably wants to strangle somebody with his gloves.

  78. Dee Says:

I think two different gymnasts have Jordyn’s music. There was someone in McKayla’s floor rotation that had a slightly different cut of it and then someone while she was vaulting. Sort of gave me the creeps, haha. At least wait a quad or two before recycling music.

Ummm…and go Chuso. I had no idea she was going to be here and to see her in vault finals would be awesome!

  79. Brouhaha Says:

what are the current event final standings (after sub 4)?

    • Case Says:

Did Pena attempt her suicide vault this time? I missed that rotation.

      • biyatch Says:

        yes. sits 6th on vault.

      • Brouhaha Says:

she did! apparently she landed in and immediately fell into a forward roll.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Is it bad that I hope she gets kicked out of finals? That mess needs to be banned from competition.

      • Case Says:

Was hoping she stopped attempting that thing but apparently not. Someone needs to save her from herself.

      • tulip Says:

I think it is incredibly irresponsible of her coach and federation to allow this. She’s been “performing” it for years now and (to the best of my knowledge) doesn’t stick it. Getting a gymnast into a final by chucking something dangerous but high valued, knowing full well that the best they can hope for is that her feet somehow touch the mat before the rest of her? I find that fairly pathetic and extremely dangerous.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I blame the stupid code. No way should a fall get you ANYTHING – a medal, finals placement, nada. No other apparatus can you fall and still medal (unless of course everyone else falls all over the place).

They should change the vault code so that a fall is like 2 points off and you don’t make finals.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Forget stick it. She doesn’t even stand it up.

      • Gymbee Says:

In Pena’s case I half feel like the competition organisers should step in. Or there should be some sort of rule that if they can’t perform it safely in ie podium training, they aren’t allowed to compete it. What amuses me is how pissed her coach looks every time she crashes that horrible vault.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Or judge her more strictly so she doesn’t make finals. That vault was scary

      • Gymbee Says:

Good point sanity, a fall should be heavily penalised!

    • gymtruthteller Says:

These are live results. Good luck getting it to work for too long

  80. H Says:

I feel bad for Mckyla. She might have been struggling with the same thing Raisman did in AA final in London. That many did not like the Brenna decision, so she felt a lot more pressure in the competition which can be hard to handle.

  81. sanitynmotion Says:

I need to watch McKayla’s floor. No way would I ever believe Kyla would beat her on this at Worlds. Wow. Not good for McKayla.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

She lost credit for a leap and might have stepped OOB so that explains it

      • biyatch Says:

the neutral deduction was for over time. Apparently her music is 92 seconds. Thats on coaches, USAG, etc. Kind of like Alicia not having appropriate leap series in ’06.

      • Case Says:

Those are the mistakes that drive me nuts. How frickin hard is it to get a stopwatch out at some point during the year and time the damn song?!?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Someone should have done it months ago. I read something about this and forgot about it.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Again why does Marta still have her job. This, plus Jordyn’s beam connections, plus pluss plussssss….argh.

    • Brouhaha Says:

      here’s Mckayla’s floor

  82. tulip Says:

Good grief did Musty ever get gifted. 5th in AA so far… Unreal. And Brenna… What are the chances Al Fong tells Marta what he thinks? Zero to none? lol

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Mustafina seemed scored fairly on bars but what a gift on floor and beam. I have not seen her vault yet but with her form it was probably overscored

      • tulip Says:

thanks for the clarification- i should have specified on those particular events. But because of those gifts, she’s higher in the AA than deserves. However, regardless of that over scoring, she would still be in the AA finals and she does belong there, in case anyone thinks I’m saying otherwise.

It was great to see Nabs competing again!

      • Tortuga Says:

Musty’s floor execution score was a joke. 7.633 with a fall? That means without the fall she had higher execution than Maroney. I’m so sick of the helicopter legs. I appreciated Musty for her bars but can’t stand her twisting form. Blatant favoritism.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I said earlier she was scored fairly on bars but even though she hit that was a bit high with all the execution errors. I never get used to judges screwing execution

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I am out. I have a dinner date:)

Kyla making 3 event finals makes this worlds for me and she has a shot at a bar medal. Take that haters:) Well I guess I should count myself with that considering I said the same thing about her floor but she still needs to upgrade in order to be a medal threat.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

The judges were probably giving Musty insurance to make the AA final is my best guess. Kind of like they did for Gabby in Olympic quals on beam…

Makes no sense at all. But whatever. I’m not surprised.

      • exgymgurl Says:

Do you think Kyla will throw any upgrades in there for Floor / Beam / Bars? I wish we had a spy in the training gym, Im sure she wasn’t really expecting to make 3 EF. I think the low scores actually made her work harder and McKayla thought she had it made as a walk in the park… good lessons for both of them in terms of hey Kyla is better on floor than we thought, and the fact that Marta said they worked on her expression and dance it does show a lot from the Phantom routine where she still kind of looked like a junior. She doesnt look like a junior any more.

      • exgymgurl Says:

I also liked how Marta attributed Kyla’s improvement to her own hard work and taking advantage of the resources. We forget that she had a lot of room for improvement on floor in artistry and tumbling. And it looks like despite her injuries shes accomplished a lot.

  83. biyatch Says:

Sandra on floor. Watered down tumbling, currently 2nd behind Simone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrNbJHBdA-0

  84. gymnastwannabe Says:

I agree that Brenna should have had the chance to compete. Had she competed, though, I doubt that Brenna would have beat Kyla or Simone for a place in the beam or bars final. Had there been a team competition, I really think Brenna would have competed. …poor girl…

    • gymtruthteller Says:

She has some amazing skills on bars but is so messy it would have killed her.

      • tulip Says:

Agree. had she might have gotten one of her elements named after her, which has to be disappointing. Marta and her games.

  85. nero Says:

Something fishy with Maroney going over time. I do believe the music can be longer than 1:30 because the timer is supposed to start when the gymnast makes her first movement. Someone correct me if I’m wring.

Watch Izbasa on floor right at the beginning. The timer doesn’t start for a good two seconds until after she does. Then at the very end it stops at 1:28. If you time her music it’s exactly 1:30.

Maybe Mckayla was a little jittery and started a second before she was supposed to?

    • tulip Says:

Good catch nero. Does McKayla have any recourse to challenge or is it too late?

      • nero Says:

It’s really really close. Mckayla starts her movement in between 5 and 6 seconds and she finishes at 1:36. So she probably DID go overtime by a second or less. The problem is this is an extremely poor mistake by Mckayla’s coaches and choreographer. Her choreography should not be exactly 1:30. What if she falls? What if she starts half a second early (like here)

To avoid this mistake again USAG better mandate that floor music be exactly 1:30. No ifs ands or buts.

And I also have a problem with the timer. Is it really acceptable for a timed event to be off by 2 seconds?

At nationals they don’t use a big timer like this do they? They have a judge down on the floor with a stopwatch right?

  86. gymnastwannabe Says:

I still think Marta used McKayla in case Simone tanked. Hopefully, Simone can stay consistent in AA. I would love to see them both medal…I’m biased toward a gold for Kyla b/c I prefer good technique and artistry over difficulty, but may the best performer win.

  87. biyatch Says:

Looks like floor finals will be:
    1. Biles
    2. Izbasa
    3. Iordache
    4. Ferrari
    5. Murakami
    6. Ross/Maroney
    7. Steingruber
    8. Black

Draw is 45137268. I maintain if Sandra pulls full difficulty and hits, she’ll win.

  88. Tortuga Says:

Another observation, if McKayla had not fallen on beam Americans would take the top three all around spots again.

    • nero Says:

And she promptly would have been kicked out because of a stupid rule!

If Mustafina hadn’t fallen she would have gotten a better E score on floor than Maroney. What a joke.

I really really hope Biles just knocks it out of the park, leave no room questions.

    • afroette Says:

Judging by McKayla’s interview with USAG, she didn’t know that Kyla had pushed her out of floor.

  89. gymnastwannabe Says:

What was the deduction for McKayla’s time penalty? I’m curious where she would have ranked if this wasn’t calculated.

  90. tulip Says:

Am I seeing correctly that Musty made beam finals?? excuse while I start laughing… I can’t stop. It’s kind of like Ponor making beam finals in the Olympics while practically falling in quals… you know this “reputation sport” can be pretty frustrating.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

…AND Ponor making floor finals even though she missed a tumbling pass. I mean I loved Ponor but c’mon.

  91. Rose Says:

I am so proud of how all the US girls competed.
I am feeling a little bit bad for Maroney though. As much as I love Ross and think she has improved greatly on floor I still think it is unfair that with her difficulty and dance ability she made it into floor finals over Maroney. I love the gymnasts who can combine both. Ross is great but her dance still looks a little forced. Some of her tumbling also looked a little low and was cowboyed. Maroney’s routine looked stronger to me but what do I know. I did not see her go out of bounds, but I guess some of you said there was some sort of time deduction. What a shame! . She looked like she had been crying in her interview. She was probably upset that she didn’t get into floor finals:( I hope she wasn’t upset about beam considering she just came back from surgery this year and that this was her first time competing beam in a year. I think she should be considered for the all around again. She can only get better from here on out.
I’m excited about the future of the US team!!

    • Rose Says:

Is Mckayla somewhat injured or is it normal for them to wrap foot and ankle during training? I thought I saw her with some extra taping when she was training. Who knows as the US likes to hide injuries.

I think Mac is frustrated and this competition isn’t going to help. Post-Olympics, she was set to redefine herself as a complete gymnast. She expanded a bit and took home vault/floor at Classics but then with the Brenna drama, she’s thrust into the position of having to prove herself maybe a little too prematurely. So far, Antwerp has been a disappointment for her as she finds herself just going through the motions of the vault final while failing to expand to the other events. I just think she must feel like crap right now. She’s got an ego (in a good way) and I just think she may need to get her head right after this competition and decide exactly where she wants to focus

    • Rose Says:

True, but remember she did have 2 surgeries and then had less time to get ready for competitions. The others didn’t really have that much of a break. I think we forget how hard that is to do.
I do think she was pushed too hard to be ready on all 4 and Breanna should have been given the chance. They should have let Mckayla focus on 2 events this year and add the other 2 next year. I don’t know how Marta makes these decisions.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

She shouldn’t be too hard on herself – heck she placed like 5th in the world, she just can’t compete due to the stupid 2 per country rule. Maybe focusing on one event final here will help her a bit. Honestly I kind of wonder if she had done just floor and vault, if her floor would have been a bit better (although I guess she can’t help the stupid timing rule or who knows what went down there).

If I were her though I’d throw a triple twisting Yurchenko. Why the hell not? Get something named after her and kill it at the one event final she makes it to.

      • DL Says:

She didn’t submit the TTY ahead of time though, so even if she does it, it won’t be named after her.

  93. gymnastwannabe Says:

Is there any chance Ross will forgo her position on floor and McKayla will compete?

  94. gymnastwannabe Says:

I ask b/c I don’t think Ross can score much higher on floor…she did an amazing routine and perhaps got the highest score she can. McKayla can clean up some things and get a better score.

    • exgymgurl Says:

Not the way of things in the US. Kylas coaches would be hard pressed to talk to her about giving up that spot. McKayla is her best friend, but Im not sure McKayla would want something she didnt really earn. She knew Kylas score, she should have been more careful to stay on pace and do her routine clean. I watched and it was not one of her better efforts. She didnt go out and compete it like she normally does. The fire was not there today.

      • DL Says:

Ross earned it. She had the best floor routine of her senior career. She deserves the spot–she delivered the result instead of the potential of a good result.

      • mimi Says:

agree. love mckayla’s floor but kyla deserves it! her floor was incredible!

      • Tortuga Says:

Being a “great American gymnast” definitely has it’s down falls. If you’re not top 2 on your events you might as well stay home. But in this case McKayla was top 2 on floor and still fell short. My how the tables turn. It’s such a bargain. You never really know what might happen. Don’t mean to get all Forest Gump on you guys. One thing I hope they learn is that ALL technicalities need to be thoroughly checked out way before now so you only have your physical performance to blame.

    • Afroette Says:

Cut for her vault? So Marta did want 3 all-arounders after all? Poor Brenna. Ugly gymnastics but she probably wouldn’t have fallen like Mac.

    • Afroette Says:

Because of her vault? That’s so odd. Marta can’t even make up good lies.

    • Case Says:

Lol at “Marta’s questionable criteria”. I’m sure GAGE gymnasts will be punished for the next decade for that comment.

      • Birgitte Says:

So how many coaches have Marta pissed off now then…

        We know for sure:
        Al Fong
        Andy Memmel
        John Geddert
        Mihai Brestyan (?) re ASac?

      • Gymbee Says:

Sorry GTT, the above is me. My sis in law has a wordpress blog too, and I keep forgetting switching profiles ๐Ÿ™‚

I thought Mustafina had upgrades on Bars? Unless maybe she decided to play it safe for qualifications then use the upgrades in AA and EF

    • CMR Says:

I thought the same re: Mustafina upgrades. I guess we could see them in the finals but god it’s pretty risky to “play it safe” when trying to qualify at a World event…I understand the strategy but there’s a ton of regrets waiting for you if you don’t even qualify

  97. mimi Says:

shame about mckayla’s floor (how in heck was her timing off?? I presume that’s what happened based on your comments!) and i think her doing AA while awesome was too soon. but it sounds like she did very, very well in AA considering her injuries, surgeries, less preparation time, and the added pressure of brenna being booted… i really hope she keeps trying because if she improved that much already imagine what she’ll be like with another year of, not pushed too fast, training.. provided she mentally can handle it.

    • CMR Says:

I don’t think her mental state will be a problem. I feel like every bone in her body has been broken and screwed back together and she’s still bopping around. She knows that if she stay healthy, her vault will at least put her in the discussion for future competitions/Rio. I think she sees that she has a unique opportunity to expand as a gymnast while still being able to fall back on being the best vaulter in the world, provided she continues to excel there. You’re exactly right though in saying that the challenge will be keeping a level head and continuing to train slowly and carefully.
