Discuss your team. Camp started yesterday and runs for 6 days. It ends with a competition and the team will be announced Sunday night.
Sorry I have been missing in action but philosophical life discussions have been going on with the boy and it has been exhausting.

I think Price has earned it, Nationals Day 1 aside – hadn’t she only been training about a week at that point?
Liked Ernst, but that monstrosity of a leo showing most of her butt made me feel all skeevy watching her at all. Too bad Kocian got hurt – I was really liking her.
Is Ohashi out for good? Did anyone ever follow up on WIll Graves’ tweet?
September 13, 2013 at 5:49 AM |
Someone posted a screenshot on Tumblr of a picture Katelyn uploaded to Instagram. It seems like she’s back in the gym.
I’m inclined to agree that it should be Price. Plus, I kind of want to see what she’s scored like at Worlds, because I think if she continues, she could potentially contribute to a TF in next year’s Worlds.
September 13, 2013 at 3:40 PM |
It looks like katelyn just got back in the gym but she’s not at camp.
I think the spot is brenna’s to lose. But if ebee shows up and kills it then I hope she gets the spot.
September 13, 2013 at 10:32 AM |
I think Maroney, Biles, and Ross are locks. The fourth spot I think will be a surprise.
September 13, 2013 at 10:34 AM |
Agree. Those first three are sure things barring injury.
September 13, 2013 at 12:10 PM |
I hope the fourth spot is a real surprise person. I hope Marta takes advantage of a weak worlds field and gives someone unlikely a real go.
hope your serious boyfriend discussions are positive ones GTT x
September 13, 2013 at 2:11 PM |
Biles, Ross, Maroney are the definite locks for sure. I think it’ll be interesting if they do bring a 4th girl or just have McKayla do the AA as well. She put up a couple keeks before going and was training bars so it looks like she’s gonna go for it at camp.
If they do I could see Price going just for her bars or Dowell for the same to get some experience. I don’t think either would medal but you never know. Especially with Komova (seemingly) out as well. Too bad about Kocian and Ohashi. Katelyn would definitely fit in here.
September 13, 2013 at 5:41 PM |
Aw, the boyfriend discussions. Those are exhausting.
OK we know the locks – I think Marta is going to take someone so they get experience. That’s why I am thinking maybe Price or Dowell. She can see how “badly” Dowell will get hammered for bad form or she can see the potential in Price. I think it’s between Price and Dowell. I would say Ernst but Ernst got that World Cup spot this year and she didn’t really “wow” at nationals, and for this opportunity I’m thinking Marta might want to take someone that hasn’t been on a world stage yet. But I could be wrong.
Of course who knows what will happen if any of the locks are injured.
I kind of think it would be funny if Marta was like “ah shit, let’s just take Skinner for the heck of it.”
September 13, 2013 at 6:41 PM |
Yes. Someone, I think on this blog, said that dowell is the Natasha Kelley of this quad. She has performed well in the country and at camps so Marta might just send her to show her and her coaches the reality of her scores at an international level so they can come to terms that she will not be a factor in future worlds or rio.
September 14, 2013 at 12:46 AM
taking skinner would be hilarious. her floor has actually really grown on me and id be curious to see how international judges respond to it.
never going to happen though!
September 13, 2013 at 10:51 PM |
I’m torn. Both Brenna and Ebee earned that spot, imo. Brenna with her third-place AA finish and Ebee with her performance at world cups, smashing it on day 2 of Nats after something like two weeks of training. I’d like Brenna to have more international experience but I like Ebee’s bars better and I think she’ll hit under pressure. Doubt either of them will make UB finals though. Such a shame Ohashi and Kocian are out and Finny isn’t back, I’m not enthusiastic about Ernst on beam.
September 14, 2013 at 1:04 AM |
So the team will be named next Sunday, right?
September 15, 2013 at 2:14 AM |
tomorrow around 8pm!
September 15, 2013 at 3:38 AM
Thanks!
September 14, 2013 at 1:29 AM |
I think it would be fun to take Skinner. Odds are she will name 4 and two alternates and keep them all in RoundLake, I mean Deva, I mean the Karolyi ranch until worlds so she can starve them down, I mean oversee their training and keep them on track. I think Brenna will get taken to worlds so that she understands she needs to make a plan to go to Oklahoma and do great college gymnastics. I think Ernst is like the next Sabrina Vega and too olympic delusional to just let the dream die. I honestly think Kyla will end up at Stanford. I think EBee will end up there too because in the end both will be the quads Amy Chow / Ivana Hong and get great educations and go on to be amazing outside having a media life. I would love to see Skinner get safe and clean up that difficulty and make a run at it, for real, because well it would just be fun. I think Ohashi ends up at Stanford also and with Kyla, EBee, Ohashi and Hong they win their first national title.
September 14, 2013 at 8:00 AM |
ohashi at stanford with kyla and ebee would be amazing but she said she wants UCLA yeah?
id kinda love to see skinner at worlds, bad form and all. she cleaned up heaps between classics and nationals, maybe some Marta tough love does her some good too. I must admit I think I’d rather the double double be named a skinner than a moors..
September 14, 2013 at 1:43 AM |
I would love for Skinner to make a world team next year or the year after and medal on vault just to witness the COMPLETE meltdown it would cause across twitter, tumblr, blogs and forums.
I understand it’s likely not going to happen but the sight would be wondrous to behold.
September 14, 2013 at 9:23 AM |
Skinner is least likely to go. She could get the nod for a world cup or Pac Rims though.
It is highly unlikely to be Baker or Nichols either. Milliet would need to be hitting like a machine, but she’s a very good fit if she can get it together. Much as I love Dowell she should really just be alternate as she can fit in anywhere. Price would be my choice, if she’s ready. Ernst..I’m not seeing it yet. Price much more likely to threaten for a medal anyway, especially if her bars are above 6.3 now.
September 14, 2013 at 4:39 PM
Would be fun if Skinner got a chance, but prob unlikely. The “right” thing to do seems to be taking Brenna. She has been hitting well at previous camps etc. And in manny way deserve a chance to prove herself imo.
Is it this Sunday they will name the team?

Absolutely lovely story on Simone. Her ‘parents’ are her grandparents, she was in foster care for a while before they adopted her and her siblings.
I really really want Kyla to win this year but I’m officially on Team Simone for Rio. She seems very genuine and sweet and just a nice person all around. And you can tell just how small she is in the video, it’s hard to tell when most of the gymnasts around her are the same height but damn is she tiny!!

September 15, 2013 at 3:50 AM |
I was literally right about to post this link! I’m surprised NBC hasn’t found the story and milked it yet, but it seems to be that Simone’s grandparents are doing a great job raising her.
I agree with nero though. While Gabby tried too hard, Simone comes off as sweet and real in her interviews.
September 15, 2013 at 2:02 PM |
I can’t watch the video what happened to her parents
September 15, 2013 at 6:17 PM |
Her story and persona are much more akin to an “America’s Sweetheart.” I hope she can go all the way. The clock is not in her favor (for turning 16 the year after an Olympics) but I hope she has longevity. I for one would like to see more longevity in this sport in the US.
September 15, 2013 at 3:19 PM |
Well her parents ( adoptive) are fine. They said her bio mom was and perhaps still is into drugs.
September 15, 2013 at 3:21 PM |
I liked what her dad said about how when people ask if they are grandkids he says no they are our children.
September 15, 2013 at 5:11 PM |
Maroney, Ross, and Biles are locks unless they are injured in the next few days…I wish they would give Millet a shot at the world stage, I know she is inconsistent and unlikely to be placed on the team because of her recent performances, yet she seems to have the highest scoring potential and with three consistent gymnasts, I think it would be worth taking a shot on a young gymnast who just needs to build her confidence…yet, that is not the way Marta selects her gymnasts. So, it’s likely to be the safe choice…Price if she hits today, with Dowell as the alternate.
September 15, 2013 at 6:02 PM |
Apparently camp is over because McKayla has nothing better to do than vine. She must have lost her keek payment
September 15, 2013 at 10:43 PM |
i don’t think they compete on the first or last day of camp. It seems like they do work outs and the competition is friday and saturday.
September 15, 2013 at 7:00 PM |
btw sarah! is back
September 15, 2013 at 7:46 PM |
She is going to kill me for asking you this but what is the address to her blog. I am drawing a huge blank
September 15, 2013 at 7:59 PM
Is it this one(?)

September 15, 2013 at 8:03 PM
Thanks H 🙂
I wish she would stop the racist stuff so I could link to her because she is hilarious other wise plus I know she isn’t racist and just does it for shock value.
September 15, 2013 at 7:29 PM |
Im sure Kyla loves all the vines of her doing schoolwork while mckayla records it. Looks like “whatever” magic competition was supposed to happen did not happen and the athletes remaining at camp are on break time
September 15, 2013 at 11:12 PM |
I follow Kim Zmeskal on twitter (don’t hate me GTT), and she recently posted a pic of the girls in competition leos. Are we sure they didn’t compete early this evening?
September 15, 2013 at 11:56 PM |
I don’t care who you follow.lol No big fan of Kim the gymnast that is for sure but you people are so funny which the comments. Last I heard was they compete today and team named tonight.
September 16, 2013 at 12:17 AM |
USA Gymnastics’ Twitter says that the team should be named in the next 45 minutes: https://twitter.com/USAGym
(btw, GTT, are you open to any new commenters on your blog? I read regularly and would like to participate, but don’t have an approved handle)
September 16, 2013 at 1:27 PM |
Ahhh Flippateer that’s such a cute screen name. Wish I had thought of it!
September 17, 2013 at 2:09 AM
Thanks, but I can’t take the credit for it! The Flippateers was the name of my childhood gymnastics team.
September 17, 2013 at 3:17 AM
Where did you come from anyway? I don’t remember approving you. I need to keep better track of people I let post. Damn boy and his gutting my brain with his damn philosophical life discussion have made me forget everything. I need a drink.

Hey GTT. I’ve been reading this blog for about a year now, and I’ve commented on and off – I think you’ve approved my comments on a case-by-case basis before now? Anyway, I’d love to be a regular commenter if that’s cool with you, and I’m happy to speak further by email if you’d like.
September 18, 2013 at 1:08 AM
Send me an e-mail at the_real_gymtruthteller@yahoo.com because here is the thing. If you don’t post for awhile your name automatically stops being allowed to post and I know I didn’t approve you recently because the last person I approved was Akshay and that was over a month ago.
Plus your IP is from a place that known IP changers use which is also suspicious. Plus I had a shitty day so you need to e-mail with a facebook page that proves you are you and a real e-mail address.
September 16, 2013 at 12:19 AM |
Based on McKayla Maroneys vine, the only ones still there are kyla, brenna, simone and ebee. I think the competition was yestreday so they could all fly home to school today. THats the team with an alternate…..
September 16, 2013 at 12:23 AM |
ttweet is out ross dowell biles maroney…
September 16, 2013 at 12:23 AM |
That is boring. We called that.lol
September 16, 2013 at 1:08 AM
Yeah I was hoping to see ebee or Peyton.
So two things could happen-1) Brenna could choke and qualify for any finals or she could hit and choke in event finals.
I’m betting that ebee or ebee are the alternates.
September 16, 2013 at 12:36 AM |
as expected….well, at least we will see how dowell will be received internationally
September 16, 2013 at 12:27 AM |
Hopefully when Dowell goes and scores a 13 in prelims on beam we will never see her again until she shows up at Oklahoma
September 16, 2013 at 12:29 AM |
Oklahoma is the perfect place for her. With EBee still being at camp Im wondering why the release didnt name the alternate…… Im guessing EBee is the alternate if shes still staying at camp
September 16, 2013 at 12:31 AM |
Although I dont know how you fix what she does to get to a handstand on bars. I dont even think she could compete bars NCAA, where shed be fortunate to hit a 9.6 with they way she bends her arms and muscles her handstands.
September 16, 2013 at 1:01 AM |
With this team I’d guess 1 AA medal (I have doubts that Kyla can hit floor on the same day that Simone can go 4 for 4), 2 vault medals and possibly a bronze on floor. Jana… I mean Brenna will be on the sidelines after prelims unless everyone mucks up.
September 16, 2013 at 1:13 AM |
Funny I thought Jana / Brenna / Mattie / Natasha were all the same person like Clark Kent and Superman…ll getting Ivana Hung out to dry
September 16, 2013 at 1:16 AM |
Oh and there are really only 4 AA contenders for medals, Iordache is too hurt and does not have difficulty and Mustafina someone from China Biles and Ross are really the only contenders…. unless Iordache can actually hit all her difficulty which I do not see happening…
September 16, 2013 at 1:10 AM |
I was hoping for ernst or ebee as well, dowell is a decent all-around gymnast but has no potential at these world unless the others have mistakes (which goes with marta’s mo of selecting gymnasts that are consistent and ready to go) it’s worked in the past, so I can’t fault her…but it would be nice to send a gymnast who could end up in the finals and not just as a “back-up” that’s what the alternates are for
