Where is Jiang Yuyuan? I thought this was her last competition before she was retiring but I have yet to find any info about her.

  1. Catherine Says:

Jiang Yuyuan is not injured unlike the few who competed that way. She has just deteriorated, was not given a team spot for her province as a result as they needed someone for bars and did not want to compete in an individual capacity..I believe she was given that option but it’s kind of worthless as she wouldn’t have gotten anywhere. She’ll be straight off to university I believe.

I posted a summary on my blog of the main gymnasts, and a shorter version on the last post here. Basically- great meet for Shang Chunsong, Huang Huidan, Sui Lu. Mixed for Yao Jinnan (highest bars score, but she competed injured and worsened it), Tan Sixin (hit beam, not bars), Huang Qiushuang (fell on beam, made bars finals), Wang Yan (fell on beam, nailed new DTT), Tan Jiaxin (hit both vaults, fell on bars dismount) and terrible meet for Deng Linlin (fell on beam dismount, she was gutted) and Zeng Siqi (fell on beam, sat dismount, wobbled and downgraded). She did hit the rest of her events but they’re useless, she’s a one-eventer.

The second aa spot could well be up in the air if Yao doesn’t miraculously heal. Even if she’s okay it could really damage her longterm prospects to compete on her ankle so she may be limited to bars. Shang has cemented herself, so has Huang- but she still has AA and EF to go and she’s inconsistent- but main competition Tan Jiaxin didn’t even make finals. But Zeng Siqi threw herself off the provisional list. If Sui Lu can go (she won’t have much choice) then they should take her, what’s the point of bringing someone who could mess up and score an 11 again?

    • gymtruthteller Says:

If she has the potential she or anyone that falls a lot could use the experience. Not over a deserving person who actually hits but that is like Canada sending Moors who does nothing but choke 99 % of the time. They are sending her praying she hits her floor routine and makes finals.

      • Catherine Says:

The problem with Zeng is that she has a total lack of endurance. They need to build it up.

The 08 crew are all set to retire. After this, Sui Lu is the only one I can see hanging on a little bit longer. She’s also the only one anywhere close to her best, even He Kexin was not..though still pretty damn good on bars.

      • Catherine Says:

Oh and there’s a scandal! The beam was not flat, but tilted. I heard everyone fell off the same side.

      • Tortuga Says:

He just totally crashed on bars but her start value must be crazy high if she could have hit everything it would have been awesome.

      • Catherine Says:

He’s full start value is 6.8. She still has EF to go out on. Scored big in quals, a bit sloppier than usual but I don’t think she’s fully healthy.

    • Case Says:

So is Jiang Yuyuan officially done then? I was hoping to see her again too.

    • Sara Says:

So does this mean Deng Linlin is also done? I would’ve really loved to see her beam at its best once more.

      • Catherine Says:

The 08 crew hung on for this, and are planning on going to university. Sui Lu is the only one who’s still competitive, and He Kexin but she’s had to work and work to keep up her bars..she’s done.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Why have Yao compete a DTY at this meet injured? If anything go for a STY – gee whiz. What’s up with these coaches; she’s their best AA hope right now.

      • Catherine Says:

Because without her, her province is sunk and would not even have made team finals. I agree, utterly ridiculous- aaand she’s down to do all 4 events tomorrow in team finals (11AM GMT).

  2. Akshay Says:

This was floating around Tumblr today, and I thought everyone here might appreciate it. 🙂

    Marta as Dolores Umbridge.

  3. JAS4 Says:

I hope Jinnan can heal up before Worlds. I was hoping she would be back in AA contention this year after being injured in London.

    • Catherine Says:

She was injured before National Games, and has likely exacerbated it. I think she’ll go for bars alone to worlds though, but she won’t get a respite during the rest of NG, it’s way, way more important to them.

  4. mimi Says:

so afan definitely out and paseka in. aussies arent sending anyone to due (disgraceful) lack of difficulty.

    • sainabou nyang Says:

I heard about afan and the aussies too.
Now Musty will have even more pressure to bring home medals. Frankly I don’t see Komova on this team either. meningitis is nothing to play with. She may not have the endurance yet to do AA.

Frankly Peggy Leddick should send her new gymnast to worlds just for experience and to see how they will score. This will help them with preparing for Pac rims and CWG next year.

      • Akshay Says:

I think they’re planning on just sending komova for individual event finals, and having Nabieva so AA. But I agree; they should not rush her back at all. I legitimately think Mustafina is now their only real shot for a gold.

      • Karlie Says:

Agreed – I believe the current lineup would be Mustafina and Nabieva AA, Paseka doing beam, and Vika doing bars and potentially beam if she’s healed enough.

Of course, that assumes that the Russian coaches are logical, so…

      • Karlie Says:

Obviously I meant Paseka doing vault – my bad 🙂

      • biyatch Says:

While overall I was super not impressed with the US field this year, with all these injuries to major players, this worlds has the potential to be like 2005 with just straight up US domination. Granted, the US hasn’t had its camp yet.

The US should easily take 2 vault medals, Simone and Kyla should be favorites for the AA podium. If McKayla and Simone hit they could crack the floor podium just based off D-scores alone (although I think Mac’s D score might be scrutinized a bit more than it was at nationals.) Floor seems pretty wide opened at this point, especially after seeing Sandra’s effort this past weekend. Beam’s always kind of a crapshoot depending on who hits.

Is there any news on Iordache at this point beyond that she’s “in treatment”? What about Ferrari?

  5. sanitynmotion Says:

Ugh this Worlds is shaping up to be a flat fest. Like as in flat line fest. No real competition; it’ll be like watching US nationals with a few foreigners in the mix (hi Musty and Iordache, oh maybe hi to Yao for good measure)…

I was hoping this Worlds might give the Olympics comp a run for its money with a healthy Iordache, Yao, Komova, improved Musty, et al.

  6. lol Says:

Dementyeva should be at Worlds. I can`t believe they pushed her into retirement.

  7. GymMom Says:

Someone tweeted that Gabby is “useless as a judge” on SYTYCD.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

she is. Totally useless like carly ray jepson was. And i have to listen to paula abdul drone on and on too oy.

    • Kylie Says:

FYI…. SYTYCD is played at 1pm on a Saturday afternoon here that is how bad it has gotten (first seasons were great)… ie this is the time where they play what I like to call ‘fillers’ :p

  8. GymMom Says:

Gabby is getting blasted all over Twitter about how horrible she is judging on SYTYCD tonight.

    • uglyfatkid Says:

She should be blasted…it was a train wreck to watch. Whoever decided that it was a good career move for her to do this is a moron. It showed that…

      A) She can’t string words into a simple coherent sentence.
      B) A drunk monkey knows more about dancing than she does.
      C) Nastia is a dirty hooker. I’m not sure how she showed it…but she did.

Between her and Paula I almost lost it. And I’m sorry, if Fiction (or however the hell he spells it) wins I’m going to be pissed as hell. I’m am so tired of people getting to the end who have ZERO business being there. I hate how they don’t pull any punches with the rest of them, but with him they sugar coat everything they say. I’m with GTT…this shit is rigged. EVERY male in the top 10 deserved to be there over him. Don’t get me wrong, I love an underdog story and seeing someone grow as a dancer…but this is outrageous. It is clearly the production staff rigging everything. It makes me want to stop watching reality tv anymore. Real my ass.

      • gymnerd Says:

That’s OK…just keep on committing career suicide, GABRIELLE….she’s gonna be BEGGING Chow to take her back.

      • Brouhaha Says:

How was it a trainwreck? I don’t watch SYTYCD

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I KNOW. I was so pissed that Paul got kicked off last week (a real talent, and with personality, and my favorite to win from day 1) and yet Fiction makes it through every round because what, he smiles? Give me a break. Enough already. Fiction is really good at what he does but that’s it. The choreographers obviously dumb down all of his dance moves so that in a jazz/contemporary piece all he does is flail his arms and jump over the girl he’s dancing with and “ohhh Fiction you are just SOMETHING ELSE that wasn’t even your style you are so wonderful is there anything you can’t do gag gag gag gag…”

Like Cyrus last year. I mean, the choreographers literally had to have him be a robot in almost every dance – he couldn’t do sh*t with anything else. They did it with Twitch too when he was on the show. Then they give the really good dancers something like jive or quick step and it’s a snoozefest because of the choreographers and they are immediately in the bottom because of that.

I could go on. I just hate how the judges are so obvious in trying to get the audience to pick the winner that “they” prefer.

      • uglyfatkid Says:

I couldn’t agree more Sanity. Paul going home was shocking to me…he was clearly the best out there.

If Fiction wins I may have to stop watching it…it’s Gabby all over again just with a different platform. I can’t keep watching the truly talented get jacked over for these people who shouldn’t be there.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I know – I mean I understand where personality does come in to play with these dancers, but it only gets you so much. Paul had personality AND could dance circles around Fiction. Bleck. Fiction comes off as too fake and phony and trying too hard (like Gabby). It pissed me off. Then you have the judges trying to get the viewers to vote a certain way. It’s getting to be where I feel like this show is fixed too. It sucks.

  9. GymMom Says:

    Wow…is that a flag she’s wearing?

  10. mimi Says:

for anyone who cares a local news interview with mykayla skinner:–221372741.html

typical ‘she’s gonna go to the olympics!’ from the reporter blah blah blah. she seems a little shy, said of the newest olympians that aly is her role model, which i thought was kinda cute. her coach looks like she could be peggy liddick’s sister or something.

  11. mimi Says:

twitter in a tizzy – people saying that FIG have listed simone, kyla, mckayla and brenna for worlds…. isn’t selection camp next week?

apparently vika is only going for beam.

    colour me confused.

    • lol Says:

That is the nominitive lsit. Vega was on the same list back in 2011 and look what happened that year.

      • Brouhaha Says:

Still can’t fathom why Martha took Vega over Shawn

      • uglyfatkid Says:

Because the fix for Nastia was already in at that point. She couldn’t have Shawn succeeding at bars or beam if Nastia was going to get that spot next year. Think of how easily they could have written of Nastia during olympic trails if Shawn was there sticking beam/bars. Nastia would have never made it past her single layout dismounts at nationals. Also, Remember Nastia “announced” her comeback at worlds in 2011. It would have seemed less big/important if Shawn was there already there kicking ass and taking names. It was all fixed. Shawn knew it…and got out.

      • Akshay Says:

        Completely agree with uglyfatkid.
Shawn should have been on the team in 2011, and I think Shawn knew if Marta wasn’t putting her on a Worlds’ team over Vega, her chances at the Olympic Team weren’t great either.
Didn’t GTT say somewhere here earlier (I think it was a previous post) that Nastia tried to propose a motion that said you had to compete AA to make the World team (which Valeri endorsed as well?) in order to remove Shawn from consideration?
Also, considering just how popular Shawn was in 2008, and how she still hasn’t completely gone away (some people still remember her over the Fierce Five): if Shawn made the 2011 Team and the team had won gold and done well at Olympic Trials, and if Marta had tried to screw her over, I think there would have been more outrage in the Media. So Marta realized there would be hell to pay, and instead, screwed Shawn over in 2011 to end it before it became a problem. Shawn realized it was a losing battle and cut bait. I really, really wish she would speak out about Marta’s games and manipulation. I know it’s not going to happen, but seeing how popular Shawn once was, I think she is the one person who could really do some damage to Marta if she publicly spoke out.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I totally agree on all levels here. I wish she’d expose Marta but she wants to stay in good graces w/USAG. Maybe after Marta kicks the bucket???

  12. Case Says:

Guess what? The Dancing with the Stars roster is out and Gabby is not on it. Fatalie must have gotten other offers.

    • Tortuga Says:

Dang I was so sure that’s why she moved when she did. Spanny said expect to see her this season or next so it could be next season. Why does she say she is going to compete and go to Rio when it doesn’t seem like she is even thinking about training at all? I’m confused on many things this morning. Like also, why is Marta sending soo many kids to a World’s selection camp for basically an alternate spot. Which people on twitter say has already been named to Dowell. Of course injury can happen but it doesn’t seem likely anyone would be pulled.

      • Tortuga Says:

Granted I know nominative doesn’t mean it is set in stone but we all know how Marta is. Once she gets an idea of who or what she wants that is the way it will be, unless an injury or meltdown happens.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

So why the heck is she in LA? To judge reality competitions on summer TV programs? This is stupid. I have a feeling it’s just Natalie thinking that if they live in LA it will be easier for “Gabrielle” to reap the benefits of those gold medals.

      • Case Says:

Well, Natalie is not known for her financial prowess.

      • gymnastwannabe Says:

What would really suck is if Gabby really wanted to stay in IA and train and her mom forced her to move to LA where she and her family having nothing…no friends, no job, etc…where the cost of living is enormous. I realize parents have authority but it should be stripped when a parent only thinks of herself. There is a lot I don’t like about Gabby’s attitude (and how Marta played the girls against each other etc.), but Gabby did go to IA and make something of herself. The news sounded like Gabby was disappointed to leave…such a slap in the face to her host family and coaches. Gabby should seek emancipation if this is her mother’s doing, get herself back to IA, train if she has any money left to pay Chow, and hope she can make more of herself in gymnastics.

    • DL Says:

I have a feeling she wasn’t even offered the spot to begin with.

      • GymMom Says:

I feel the same way. Looking at Gabby’s Twitter profile pic, the sexual overtones might be some form of rebellion? Gabby was raked over the coals regarding her horrible robotic performance on SYTYCD last night. It doesn’t look promising for her to get too many jobs in LA, based on that. The money has got to be running out by now. I bet Fatalie told Gabby she had to start earning more. Its funny that nobody in Gabby’s family has been tweeting. How stupid it was for them to move to LA! If Fatalie was any kind of a mother, she could have stayed in Ohio with her parents, to be close to Gabby training in Iowa.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

If anything Gabby’s mom should have moved to Iowa so she could live with Gabby and the rest of the moocher family while she trains for a second run. This won’t be a good decision; I hope Gabby figures things out for herself and does what’s best for herself. She just doesn’t fit in the role of America’s Sweetheart. She never has. That was a forced title on her that nobody ever bought.

      • Akshay Says:

I completely agree, Sanity. I feel like Gabby tries wayyy too hard to fit the role, and it has never worked period. She comes off as so awkward and annoying. I realize people sometimes get annoyed by how Shawn was incredibly media trained, but I think if you compare Shawn to Gabby, those are like the two extreme examples, and Shawn was far more successful and popular.

Having said that. No Gabby on DWTS? YESSS.

      • gymnastwannabe Says:

imo, I think she could have been America’s sweetheart but she ruined things for herself…with how she talked about Jordyn missing the all-around, how she talked on Oprah, trashing her old gym, and changing her story about her feelings toward her dad. One thing Shawn does well, even if she’s not being authentic, is that she is “always, always” positive, period. She “never” was neg. or asked for a pity party when she won second in China and on DWTS.( Nastia was a *itch and Shawn took the high road.) She knows how to downplay conversations the media would like to turn into gossip. The media eats up negativity and Gabby and her family have given them way too much to chew on. Negativity doesn’t buy endorsements…people who have endorsements get on shows like DWTS…all about money.

      • Brouhaha Says:

Totally agree about Gabby not being America’s Sweetheart. Shawn, for all her faults, does come across as the cute girl next door from suburban Midwest America (not hating on Midwest, I’m from Ohio lol) which is why she was sooooo popular after Beijing as opposed to Nastia, who is just trashy. Gabby should go back to training because she still has gymnastics left in her, and she’s young enough to make another quad.

      • Katie Says:

Gymnastwannabe is so right about every single reason why gabby will never be a mainstream it girl. Aly, mckayla, and even jordyn are much more America’s sweethearts.

As far as Shawn and nastia, I agree nastia looked trashy during her “comeback” with the platinum blonde hair and cheap extensions, but I thought she was cute in 2008. People just had no idea who she was bc Shawn had been rammed down our throats. Even after her AA win, no one outside of the gym world cared much about her because she was just the quiet Russian girl who never smiled.

      • Case Says:

Shawn simply had a better agent in 2008. That is why she’s more popular and more of a household name that Nastia. Shawn got so much exposure that people thought SHE won the all around for heavens sake.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

She had a better agent but she also had a better personality and overall charm. There is no way to get around the bitch-face of Nastia. Sorry, but unless she smiles she just has that “imabitch” look about her.Shawn on the other hand was always all smiles and cute as a button type personality.

It’s kind of why Shannon Miller could never latch on as America’s Sweetheart either – in fact she’s better around the camera and everything as an adult than as a younger gymnast. She was always serious, quiet, and she didn’t have the bitchface but she had an intensity about her that wasn’t as approachable as say Shawn.

It’s why Mary Lou Retton is still relevant too – it’s that overall expression and charisma, and both Shawn and ML have it.

      • Katie Says:

@case- gabby had the same agent as Shawn did up until recently. However, Aly was the one who got the most opportunities. It came down to that Shawn was just more charming and relatable compared to nastia. Sanityinmotion is right. MLT had it. Moceanu had it during her heyday too.

      • Case Says:

Katie, Sheryl Shade of 2012 lost a little luster as an agent compared to 2008. She had some personal scandals, etc. even though Gabby had the same agent as Shawn, Aly made the better agent choice in 2012. Agents make a huge difference. Plus, Aly had the whole Jewish thing going on too.

  13. Akshay Says:

Also, just curious. Why the hell is Gabby judging on So You Think You Can Dance? Whoever brought her on that show clearly didn’t see her hot mess of a floor routine. She out of all people really is not credible to judge dancing.

  14. DL Says:

Perhaps selection camp will yield a huge surprise. Didn’t Bridget Sloan get named to the Olympic team after a camp even though she didn’t have the most stellar Olympic trial scores?

    • mimi Says:

is katelyn back in training? she’s the only one i see truly shaking things up for the bars/beam spot.

      • Tortuga Says:

I don’t know if she is up to competition shape but judging from some of her social media she has been training. I really doubt she will be anywhere near ready for worlds.

      • sj0126 (@sj0126) Says:

Yeah it pains me to say this because I love Katelyn but she hasn’t been training. People think she might never be back since Valeri isn’t coaching anymore and switched her to someone else.

The other day she said on twitter that her mom liked her look better when she was going to school and looked nice as opposed to gymnastics when she’s all chalky and stuff. I think that got misinterpreted as if she was back in training.

    • biyatch Says:

I’m still holding out hope. Price>Dowell. Neither have any chance to on beam but I prefer Ebee’s bars to Brenna’s and on each of their best days Ebee has .3 in SV over Brenna, Word is Price is ready for camp on all 4 and has her Amanar back. Neither is particularly beautiful to watch but Price’s aggression is much more appealing to me than Dowell’s meh-ness. And while I’m not a Parkette’s fan by any means, Al Fong and his creepy black gloves are the worst.

Katelyn posted a picture recently from Seattle and wasn’t even invited to camp so there is no way she’s at all in contention.

      • mim Says:

i didn’t think she would be comp ready 😦 but if she was i think she’d be the one to shake things up. shame.

agree id rather see ebee than brenna. poor brenna wish i could get behind her gymnastics but i just want some flow instead of robotic movement.

      • uglyfatkid Says:

I completely agree Sanity. I’m camp Price all the way.

And your comment on Fong’s gloves are right on. They creep me out too. Every time I see them I think he is trying not to leave fingerprints around. Lol. I think I watch to many cop/dateline shows.

      • uglyfatkid Says:

Lol…I meant Biyatch not Sanity. Sorry…force of habit. 🙂

    • sanitynmotion Says:

I think Bridget was added because she was capable of a DTY vault, which was needed then. She wasn’t added for her bars. She was coming off an injury too.

      • sj0126 (@sj0126) Says:

I just watched the 2009 nationals the other day and Tim was saying that Jana fell both days of the 2008 camp and Bridget hit. Makes sense why they switched spots after that.

  15. Catherine Says:

Raw d-scores of the top AA contenders. These assume everyone is perfect and hit absolutely everything. Upgrades- or those who are unlikely to hit connections perfectly etc. mentioned below. Hint- Simone does NOT have the highest current difficulty.

    • Catherine Says:

But I was informed of a mistake after writing, of course :p So Simone may be second, or fourth. But Iordache will be slammed on bars. Oh and it assumes perfection. Still, I find it so interesting to see that Shang Chunsong is on the warpath, definitely unexpected.

    • JAS4 Says:

It’s interesting to see the d scores that everyone is capable of but still think Kyla needs more upgrades if she wants to be competitive I think she is is capable of more especially on bars and beam I think she could do a bars set with 6.8 ish d score and beam with 6.2-6.3 ish d score if she were to upgrade (not necessarily for this Worlds but for maybe 2014) I also think her floor could be worked with the code to maybe get at least a 5.9 d score that would bring her over all d score up to a 24.7-24.8 which would be more competitive especially if combined with her usual e scores

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Kyla’s beam difficulty score is a joke. She was used at the Olympics with a higher D score; I can’t help but think she’s either holding herself back or Marta is doing it. OR that heel injury is being aggravated by beam.

      • Tortuga Says:

Marta said Kyla has to be perfect at something or Kyla is not comfortable competing it. I also wonder if she is just coasting till college to prevent major injury. Who knows. I feel like it’s wasted energy for me to keep ranting that she won’t upgrade. I think we care so much because she has “the look” and all around consistency which most American’s do not. It’s hard to come by.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I don’t believe anything Marta says but you’re right – we’ve ranted enough about it. It’s just so frustrating.

  16. Catherine Says:

Yao Jinnan and Shang Chunsong tie for gold in National Games AA! This is a bigger deal for them than the Olympics really- I’m delighted as I didn’t want either to ‘lose’ gold. Deng Linlin is third- with a suspiciously high vault score- 9.2 execution on an FTY.

  17. nero Says:

Wait….I’m confused. I thought Geddert was 1 minute away from going to jail and Jordyn’s mom said that she would never step foot in his gym again? Tumblr made it seem like Jo was practicing in the gym when Geddert wasn’t there to avoid him.

I mean there’s no doubt in my mind that he’s a gigantic asshole, I’m just confused with what’s going on. Jordyn’s mom said on twitter that it’s her last day at Twistars…for now.

I really really hope Jordyn stays with serious training. I really look forward to what Waller routines will look like on her.

    • Sara Says:

Yea I was pretty confused by this too. I’m thinking that in the long run it was just better for her to leave Twistars because she would need to at some point anyway if he was blacklisted, but still lightly trained with him during the summer to stay in shape?

    • sj0126 (@sj0126) Says:

I think her mom prolly said that when it first happened but eventually calmed down when she saw how upset jordyn was by the whole thing. i think she trained there when she was in town until she could leave for UCLA.

I don’t think Geddert is gonna go to jail or anything but doing that would be REALLY bad for USAG. They don’t want to deal with that kind of press. This whole thing is so awkward because Jordyn can’t openly say that she’s switching to Waller for good because USAG hasn’t acknowledged the whole Geddert situation yet.

  18. Brouhaha Says:

Janine Berger is out for Worlds

  19. exgymgurl Says:

    Bulimar had knee surgery yesterday.

  20. mimi Says:

komova definitely out of worlds too.

  21. Brouhaha Says:

basically everyone on the italian team is out. is ferlito still competing ?

  22. biyatch Says:

Could this be Mihai’s next elite? That a pretty hot DTY and she’s the one that gymnastike posted her floor with a beautiful double front.

PS. Notice Aly conditioning in the background.
