2013 Rhythmic World Championships

Results day 1 I think this is everyone. The US is currently in 18th and 20th place but tomorrow they compete with the clubs and one of these two American gymnasts (I think it was Rebecca not sure though) has issues with it and scored really low at Nationals.

Cheating judges have been cleared but only because there wasn’t enough evidence they cheated. Of course the fact that they all had the same answers and gave themselves special bonus points doesn’t make a difference.lol This is why this sport needs to end.

Did you know the Rhythmic World Championships started today? Yeah me either but I thought I would cover it this year so here you go.

The US is sending two gymnasts including the National Champion Rebecca Sereda and silver medalist Jasmine Kerber. They are also sending a group consisting of Sharon Dassouli, Alisa Kano, Natalie McGiffert, Monica Rokhman, Jennifer Rokhman, and Laura Tutunikov.

The competition is taking place in Kiev Ukraine and the Official site can be found here The FIG site will also have info and you can find that here.

Jasmine Kerber

and Rebecca Sereda

I honestly have no clue who the current World or Olympic champion is in Rhythmic Gymnastics so maybe someone can fill me in:)

Haha I have no clue either…I also have no clue who’s even relevant in figure skating anymore!

  2. Uglyfatkid Says:

To be honest, I have never really understood rhythm gymnastics. I think it’s beautiful, graceful, difficult (I could never do what they do…I can barely walk straight)…but…it seems out of place in the Olympics to me. Especially because it is soooo different then artistic gymnastics. Maybe it’s the term “gymnastics” at the end of it that is throwing me off…because I consider it more “dance” than “gymnastics”. It’s like going to a juggling ballet performance…it just seems a little odd. Beautiful and difficult…but odd.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Yeah it’s kind of like ballroom dancing…is ballroom dancing in the Olympics? I think they were going to add it but I don’t think it’s part of the program yet.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I agree with you. Its fixed and shouldn’t even call itself a sport but we needed a blog so I started one:0)

    • Akshay Says:

This is the one Olympic sport I cannot watch, lol. I respect and appreciate the effort the athletes put in, but it just doesn’t hold my attention.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I agree. Its dance not a sport and its fixed. It knows it is fixed and still makes excuses for it.

      • Gymbee Says:

Totally agree. I haven’t followed this at the Olympics. I’d even watch curling at the winter olympics over this :-p I tried to get into it cause my friends is nuts about it, but no. Also they have that bat crazy Deryugina (sp?) in Ukraine haha.

      • terrigymfan Says:

I agree. Rhythmic gymnastics is beautiful and no doubt very difficult — just like ballet really — but it just doesn’t seem like an Olympic sport to me, even though it has been one for a long time. I am no fan of wrestling but it is a crying shame that they are eliminating it from the Olympics. If ever there were a sport that shouts “Olympic sport,” it is wrestling.

Agree with you GTT that rhythmic gymnastics is corrupt. Wasn’t there a recent cheating scandal involving the international judges’ school for rhythmic gymnastics?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

They have been cleared. Read the article though because it pretty much proves they cheated they just didn’t have enough evidence,

ZZzzzzzzzzzzz … and NSync realized why they all hate eachother and the one that isnt justin timberlake, lance bass, JC Chasez, and Joey Fatone said it. Apparently he is too old and out of shape to dance and cant handle things…. I say reunion tour – the one who shall remain nameless. In other news Jenny McCarthy got a facelift and is dating Donnie Walberg from NKOTB

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I hate Donnie Walhberg. He was actually my fave member back in the day but than I saw him in a Yankee hat and the love affair ended.

Nsync I only know because Justin and Jc were on the MMC which I admit I watched at one time and they do have that one good CD but blah. I will give Justin credit (a little anyway) because the ex members of that show always talk about how nice he is to them when they see him on the street and you can’t fake that.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Who is the nameless one? I know Jc and Justin and Joey cuz my friend knew him from Highschool but the otehr two, no clue. My friend said Joey asked two girls to prom and expected both to go with him. I don’t get the appeal. He reeks of NY and I hate New Yorkers.lol

      • Katie Says:

Chris Kirkpatrick. He gave a radio interview yesterday that the Nsync part of Justin’s performance was supposed to be half of it but Justin ended up cutting it down to like 30 seconds or something. And Joey wanted to do a reunion tour and everyone said no, even lance bass.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

So now I have 4 members. Who am I missing (JC, Justin, Lance Joey and………….)

Never mind Chris is the 5th member. I have no clue who that is.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

A reunion tour screams pathetic. I don’t blame JT at all or any of the rest for putting the kabosh on that one. Lame, lame, lame.

Honestly NSYNC should be happy to get a shout out at all; JT won that award for his solo career and was trying to make a tribute to his beginnings w/bringing NSYNC back, that’s all. They should be happy they got the 2 minutes they got. What was stupid was MTV making it out to be a bigger deal than it was beforehand.

      • sj0126 (@sj0126) Says:

I think the gossip websites are making the other members wanting it to be longer into a bigger thing than it really was. They’ve all said they just wanted to be there and support Justin and said no to a reunion tour. It will never happen. Only way it could happen is if JT’s career plummeted big time but seeing as he has the #1 selling CD this year and just finished a sold out stadium tour with Jay-Z I don’t see that happening

      • gymtruthteller Says:

His music sucks. Jay Z sucks. People don’t buy music anymore because it is good. They buy it because they liked an artist in the past and buy just because. Sorry music today sucks in general. None of these songs will be remembered in twenty years.

Madonna’s music from the 80’s is still regularly played on the radio daily. So is Michael Jackson’s because the songs have longevity. The music we hear today in twenty years will only be played on oldies stations. Madonna’s recent music sucks but songs like Borderline and Express yourself are played all the time. MJ’s music especially still has staying power.

      • sj0126 (@sj0126) Says:

I think JT’s could stand the test of time. They’re not really yelling abotu texting people or dancing in the cluuuuuuuuuuuuuub or anything like that

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I can guarantee you that Justin Timberlake will be a nobody in twenty 5 years. Come back and we can discuss it then:)

      • sanitynmotion Says:

GTT you hit it right on the money. I agree completely. The CDs I have from years back are much preferable to the CDs or music downloads I have today; in fact I cannot remember the last time I bought a complete album because anymore they contain maybe one decent song and the rest is sh*t.

I used to buy Madonna, Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, etc. out of habit but when I started to realize I couldn’t like more than one song on each album I just gave up. Their old stuff was great – OK, I know not all of you are going to be fans of the same music but that’s what I liked – but now it’s all just the same nonsense.

I think a big reason that music sucks today is because of technology; it’s all starting to sound the same, song after song. All of the artists are using the same technology so everything sounds contrived and over-produced. Which it totally is.

I have one of JT’s older albums – in fact I might have two. I don’t plan on buying his new one (maybe it’s out already, I dunno) based on the Suit & Tie and Mirrors songs I’ve heard. Not really into it. Just blah to me, sorry.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Taylor Swift (not her current none) usually has more than one song I like but that is it.

Rascal Flatts taught me this lesson. I bought their first CD after liking one song and loved every song on it. Its one of the few CD’s I could listen from start to finish still today so when their second CD came out I figured it would be the same way so I loved the first song and bought the whole CD. Biggest waste of my money. Only two songs were any good and I have never bought a full CD based on name since.

I am convinced that Rascal Flatts knew people would think the same and I did and buy the CD based on how amazing the first one was and that is why they only a had a few songs worth releasing. I hate that I had been deceived and I have not bought a CD of theirs since. Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice………..

      • sanitynmotion Says:

That’s like me with Mariah Carey. Her first four (maybe five) albums were awesome, like I could listen to them all the way through and not want to skip a song; then when she started collaborating with hip hop artists and released Glitter all things went to shit soon after. I cursed myself for buying that Charm Bracelet album and after that, I only buy select songs.

But I’ve come to terms that Mariah will never be the same. I think her voice went to shit as she aged and she’s too involved in the hip-hop scene to go back to doing what she had been so good at.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Her voice has not aged well.

      • Tortuga Says:

I loved Mariah Carey in the 90s, she could do no wrong in my eyes, back in the Butterfly days OMG. Anyway after Glitter came out she was crap. I liked the Obsessed song briefly when it came out though. I typically just don’t care for radio music these days, not trying to sound hipster. But I really do appreciate DIY artists and originality. There is great music these days they’re just not signed to major labels and don’t get heard because they don’t have the money backing them. A lot of consumers these days just want simple lyrics and a beat.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I know. You know who I liked that disappeared just as fast as she came on the scene? Michelle Branch. I have no clue what happened to her but she was a lot like Swift in that she wrote and produced her own music and all of it was really catchy. I loved her album.

Seems like anymore the “pop stars” are all these tartlets with auto-tuned music who can’t sing for sh*t live and must be pre-recorded in a sound booth before going onstage, where they attempt to sing with/along the pre-recorded version. It’s so non-authentic anymore. You don’t need talent you just need a pretty face. And it’s so true.

      • sj0126 (@sj0126) Says:

Michelle Branch is still around. She took a little break when she got married and had a couple kids but she stills puts out CDs. I believe she has a new one coming out soon if it hasn’t already.

The problem with the music industry is radio. In the 90s when I was growing up and getting into music, the radio would play them and that’s how new artists were discovered. Now a song only gets rotation on the radio if your label is willing to spend 200,000 to get DJs to play them. So the songs with the most label backing get played 9348483849494 times a day and its not the best songs a good amount of the time.

I think that’s why I find it refreshing when I do find someone who is popular that also writes their own stuff and is still being creative. I would put JT and T. Swift in that group. At least they write their own stuff unlike most of the rest on the radio.

    • Gymbee Says:

Hahaha McCarthy got a facelift? The most exciting of the VMA’s for me was the Eminem annoucement. Went to his concert in Paris last week.

      • Dee Says:

I always feel as though McCarthy is one of the most irrelevant celebrities out there, yet she manages to be…everywhere.

      • Gymbee Says:

Hahaha so true! I mean what has she done recently? A couple of B (if not C) movies some years ago. I actually met her and had a photo taken with her at a book signing in NYC 7 years ago lol.

      • Karlie Says:

God, don’t get me started on McCarthy…her uneducated anti-vaccine campaign drives me up the fucking wall. She’s also used it to keep herelf in the news.

      • Gymbee Says:

Agree Karlie, so dangerous! Kids dying of measles and it spreading again is much more serious than some suspected side effects of vaccines happening to a few.

  4. sanitynmotion Says:

Dude, what’d you all think of Miley Cyrus’ performance? I don’t know about you but I felt uncomfortable. Like wasn’t she sweet and innocent only like 2 years ago? I know Britney did the same thing but I feel like hers was less in your face and more like trying to be innocent and seductive at the same time.

And I just accept the fact that Lady Gaga is an exhibitionist.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Didn’t see it but I heard about it. Miley is, what is the word I am thinking of ummmm…… trash?

      • Uglyfatkid Says:

        Lol!!!!!

      • exgymgurl Says:

Miley is too busy smoking weed and getting high to realize even what she is doing. She is disconnected from reality just like LiLo and part of MKUltra

      • gymtruthteller Says:

MKUltra ? I am so not up on the lingo but I do know who Lilo is.

      • Katie Says:

Sex slave sect of the illuminati

      • Lis Says:

This is why people should give indie music a listen! Jenny Lewis, Rilo Kiley, Stars, Neko Case, New Pornographers, Frightened Rabbit…

    • mimi Says:

i doubt she was sweet and innocent two years ago… that all went out the window when her parents let her have sleepovers with her 20-something boyfriend when she was only 15.

i find her sort of hilarious. on the one hand it’s good in the sense she can pretty much now do whatever and people won’t hold her to a higher standard so she can do whatever she wants and people will start to not bat an eyelid. compared to someone like taylor swift who is basically forced to keep this virginial sweet public image even though she’s almost in her mid-twenties. the world would have a collective hard attack if she was seen with something as minor as a wine glass in hand.

on the other hand miley is a trashy hot mess and her newest video clip clearly is made for watching while high on the drugs. and im jealous she gyrated on thicke because I love him ha.

I’m not surprised she’s gone down this path at all. I’m all the more gleeful coz I hated Hannah Montana or whatever that crap was lol.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Hannah Montana bashing? Shocking to hear.lol I actually liked Hannah the first year. Then they turned it into the Miley crap show instead of the learning life’s lesson show and the soundtrack gave me this song which I still love today.

La la I’ll be acting through my tears. Guess you’ll never know that I should win an Oscar for this scene I’m in. If we were a movie…………………..

      • exgymgurl Says:

Youd be the right guy and Id be best friend that youd fall in love with in the end we’d be laughing watching the sunset fade to black show the names play the happy song.

      • Tortuga Says:

Miley has been on a downward spiral for awhile I thought. There were nude photos of her floating around quite a few years ago and a video of her smoking salvia (I believe). Which salvia is actually legal, or at least it was then. I don’t actually know about now. It doesn’t surprise me. I don’t know who told her sticking her tongue out all the time or gyrating on a married man (not to mention on national television) was sexy. Or dressing in a teddy bear leotard was fashionable. (Hey world team leos right there!) I guess I’m just not “hip” anymore. She thinks she’s winning here by getting all the publicity good or bad, but I’m sure as heck not buying any of her her albums or songs on i tunes.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

You are not her target audience. Its pig men.lol

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Pig Men and McKayla Maroney, who is a huge Miley fan. When she said that I did lose a lot of love for her, but now that she’s back in the saddle with gymnastics I’ll forgive it. For now, lol. Just wait until after she retires though I really hope she doesn’t try to play for that angle.

      • Tortuga Says:

Hahaha, touche. It boggles me how people are so basic and don’t enjoy creativity in mainstream entertainment these days. Film is still pretty good in my opinion but music is just awful. Auto tune this and twerk to that. Most mainstream musicians don’t even write their own lyrics anymore.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

That is why people should love Taylor Swift. She writes all her own music and lyrics and she produces it. Haters

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I applaud Taylor for telling her ex to STFU. Haha. 1 Direction is a freakin joke.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Taylor is awesome even if she can’t really sing . Her revenge song calling that actress a slut has to be the best song ever written (so I know this doesn’t help sway people to my side on the Timberlake is not a great artist but whatever) Come on who else would have the nerve to call someone a slut to their face.lol

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I know her voice isn’t the best but she’s really good at writing really catchy songs. Part of me hopes she keeps getting dumped.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

LOL It makes the music more fun

    • sainabou nyang Says:

I was amused by it and shaking my head at the same time, because it was like she was trying to hard. Shes not a kid anymore but if she wants people to take her serious as an adult singer she needs to back to the drawing board.

    • Gymbee Says:

So horrible! She is trying way too hard to get away from the Disney image. Trashy.

    • biyatch Says:

The washington post had a good editorial on her performance.

    • Dee Says:

It was just…bad. And trashy. And a wee bit embarassing.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I felt embarrassed for her. And I don’t understand why she thinks it’s cool to stick out your tongue all the time like that. She overdid it IMO.

The odd thing is there are a bunch of media outlets out there actually calling her performance racist because she pretended to be dominating some black dancers – I forget the term they used, like “minstrel” show or something. I get this feeling that anytime a white person does anything having to do with a black person, they’ll be called racist anymore.

It’s not like the damn dancer participated in that whole act unwillingly. And then what do you say about all the male performance shows that have half-naked women gyrating all over them…is that not sexist, then? Puh-lease.

      • byrdisthewyrd Says:

I read that article about the minstreling or whatever too, Sanity. I read the whole thing just as confused as can be. What? She twerked so that’s a black dance? She sang hip hop so it’s a black song? She used black back up dancers so she was sexualizing black women? I try not to get involved in race discussions very often. I’m white and while extremely liberal, I know that anything I say can be miscontrued so I generally just stay quiet but I’m right with you on this one. I don’t think Miley was being racist at all, just trashy. The girl is growing up and thinks she needs to market herself as a skank to appear liberated or something. Whatever. But racist? Unless the author was implying that black people are trashy, which seems pretty racist in and of itself. It seems to me that people are putting way too much thought and analysis into what is simply a pretty crappy live performance where a young girl makes herself look like a hooker with a tongue problem.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

lol, exactly! I’m laughing at the tongue problem reference.

I think it’s sad that’s the way she feels she must market herself to be relevant, but that’s just me. Her handlers are obviously behind it or otherwise they’d be putting the kabosh down. Sex sells, I guess. That’s the mantra of society. And it obviously worked because look at all the attention she’s getting. Even my mom was telling me she went to her iPad and looked up the performance out of sheer curiosity.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

It is simple to explain really. Some black people blame all white people for their problems. Its a fact and I don’t care how it sounds. It’s the truth.

      • Tortuga Says:

Someone on my facebook page wrote a similar article about the performance being racist towards black people. I could see an argument about her performance sexually-zing women and furthering the low self esteem image of women in today’s society, but not racism. That’s like saying if Eminem had all black people on stage with him that weren’t singing that he must be racist. Anytime all races aren’t represented people want to throw out the race card.

      • sainabou nyang Says:

Twerking or shaking your ass has been around forever. Strippers white, black, spanish, etc.. Habe been doing it for as long as strip clubs have been around.

  10. Akshay Says:

Must say, GTT. I love your new Avatar picture here! Loveeeee Beth.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Thank you. It is actually half a picture because the whole thing wouldn’t fit.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

      What does Akshay mean?

      • Akshay Says:

lol, Akshay is actually my name. I was born in India (even though I live in the US now), and it’s a pretty common Indian male name.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I like it. Do you have a nick name?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Gabby doing DWTS is pretty much confirmed. Gymcastic says it has multiple sources that says the contract will be signed this week. Multiple sources is also known as Spanny Tampson who is Natalie Hawkins BFF on facebook.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

DWTS is sooooo boring I don’t know who would bother watching it anymore. I’m surprised that they are taking on another gymnast to be honest. I keep waiting for the announcement that there won’t be another season.

I think the show is grasping at straws to sign on people anymore. It got to the point where many celebrities (D-list) wanted to do it but I don’t think that’s the case anymore since the show is no longer a solid platform to re-launch a career.

If Gabby was upset about this whole thing (as indicated in the article) I’m thinking her mom is pressuring her into doing it. Given her attitude I’d bet she gets voted off sooner than most people think.

      • Akshay Says:

I don’t really have a nickname that has stuck with like more than one person. Every now or then someone will call me something or the other, but I wouldn’t say I have one.

And I saw that on Twitter just now. Cringing. I really would not want to be partnered with her, tbh. I also will not be watching this season now. ๐Ÿ™‚ So, GTT. I remember when Shawn was on DWTS, the motto here was: A vote for Shawn is a vote against that other girl. Does this mean a vote for anyone who is competing against Gabby is appropriate? ๐Ÿ™‚

      • gymtruthteller Says:

LOL I didn’t know you posted back then but I think I need a new motto. I won’t be watching or posting about it because that show is fixed. Last year proved it.

      • Akshay Says:

I didn’t actually post back then, but I’ve followed the blog for a long time and remembered seeing that. I actually stumbled across this blog when google suggested I search “Nastia Liukin called Chellsie Memmel Fat.” I was over the moon to find a blog that couldn’t stand Nastia (and later Gabby). It seemed like prior to PGC, no one would dare say a word against Princess Nastia (except for this blog, which I appreciated).
I agree. The show just needs to die already. What are they on, season 17?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

People still search this blog using Nastia calls Chellsie fat” lol

      • Akshay Says:

I’m kind of glad the show isn’t as popular as it was four years ago (when Shawn was first on), that Gabby isn’t as popular as Shawn was (which was also helpful since it totally ruined Nastia’s popularity amongst the general public), and that it is not the year directly after the Olympics. I don’t think people are going to care about her as much now, when the 2012 Olympics have faded from people’s minds.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

IMO They only picked her because the winter Olympics are coming up and they will need the ratings

      • Gymbee Says:

Hahah Akshay that’s how I ended up here too! I love this blog for that reason.

I say it again, poor the person who will be coupled with Gabby. Shawn wrote in her book that Mark was a bit annoyed at her mother having to be at EVERY practice session. Imagine having Gabbys mother there.

      • exgymgurl Says:

Gabby wont be with tristan. Hes with valerie harper. It sounds like of all the announced people shes the only black person. Gymnasts do really well, plus disney is half way making Gabby a star. DWTS could care less about olympic ratings because the olympics are an NBC product. THis is like them putting zendaya on from shake it up. This also explains why Gabby moved. Big paycheck if she makes final four.

      • Tortuga Says:

I started reading this blog when I heard about Mackenzie Woffard pooing her leo at camp, and also Nastia not in shape to be competing for an Olympic spot. I was appalled that she was even trying to compete when she was no where near ready on bars, and kept getting invitations handed to her when she was undeserving. Before this blog I was just checking USAG Facebook. And I’m so happy I’m here because people here don’t put up with bull shit. We can talk about things in an adult and honest way where that other places just sugar coat it. Btw I don’t hear too often of Indian decent people who are gym fans so I think that’s awesome Akshay!

      • Akshay Says:

Gymbee – I didn’t know Shawn’s mother came to every practice session, but I can totally see it. I always felt Shawn was a sheltered child. And I’m not sure Gabby’s mother would actually show up, tbh. I certainly wouldn’t want to deal with her (or most Gym Mom’s (disclaimer: NOT referring to the Poster on this blog haha) for that matter) either, but this is the same lady who basically sent her daughter off to Iowa, and is now moving her to LA (which imo is not in the best interest of her gymnastics career, but that’s another story) and spending her money. While I can see Shawn’s mother showing up because she didn’t want to leave her 16 year old daughter with a grown man, I don’t see Gabby’s mother doing that. But that could just be me.

Tortuga – well thanks! ๐Ÿ™‚ You’re right, I wouldn’t say it’s a sport that many people of Indian descent follow, but I certainly enjoy it. And I agree. I appreciate that people here can express their opinions, and even if people disagree, they disagree in a respectful manner. There aren’t too many places like this these days, and I’m thankful that GTT has given us a forum at which this is possible.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I think Gabby’s mom will show up and try her hardest to be in the practice fluff pieces; she’ll also want to be there to “meet” whoever Gabby is partnered with. She’s a total clinger when it comes to Gabby’s career.

Her move basically cost Gabby the rest of what her career could be though. I think Gabby knows that and that’s probably why she was upset to leave Chow. She knows that spells the end of any shot at Rio.

      • Gymbee Says:

Akshay, apparently according to California law all minors have to have a guardian present (when working in tv maybe? Can’t remember.) but a judge had to sign off that she could appear on the show ONLY if her mom was with her on set 24/7. Apparently Shawn was not super happy about it, neither was Mark, and the mother felt uncomfortable too.
So since Gabby is still under 18 she has to have a guardian present. Hey maybe she could ask her dad haha. But I can see her mom wanting to try out the dance moves and get tv time haha.

      • Akshay Says:

I didn’t know that – I’m pretty unfamiliar with regulations like that and all. So thanks for explaining, and I guess that makes sense. Even without those regulations, I guess I could still see Shawn’s mom keeping an eye on her.

      • Gymbee Says:

No problemo Akshay, I didn’t know about it until reading shawns book where she explains it ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Tortuga Says:

I saw on Facebook today that the DWTS contestants for this season will be announced next week so it definitely all adds up that she moved for that reason. Gabby, Fatilie or both care more about fame and money than her gymnastics career. I can totally see her mom trying to get in every shot possible. I’m not trying to be one of those people that says she shouldn’t be allowed to have a break or have fun. But she’s been saying for a long time she was coming back and is “Definitely going to Rio.” It’s sad because I think Gabby has a lot of room for improvement and the potential to make it happen. She could have had longevity. No I don’t think she could win an Olympic AA again but she could have contributed for awhile, especially since she was great on bars (for an American).

  11. nero Says:

    Gymcastic says…….

“We have multiple sources confirming that Gabby Douglasโ€™s deal with DWTS is being finalized this week. If sheโ€™s not announced this week, expect to see her next season.”

Now, from what I know about casting stars with pros is it’s by height as much as possible. Which is why Mark was paired with both Shawn and Aly. But I HIGHLY doubt he’ll get Gabby. The same guy with every single gymnast that’s been on the show?? Doubt it.

I don’t follow DWTS very much but I do know that Tristan has a rabid following that is pissed about him getting all of the older competitors that have no chance of making it past week 5. So I might put my money on him.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

The show is fixed. If she gets Derek expect her to win because they know his fans vote for him regardless of who he is partnered with.
The show is fixed anyway. No need to watch.

  12. JAS4 Says:

Looks like Afan really did have surgery yesterday which I’m guessing there is a good possibility she is out for worlds now if so it will be interesting to see who they send with Mustafina and Nabs lol I saw that Lexie had surgery as well on a toe problem that had been bothering her its probably best she gets it fixed now anyways since she is out of Worlds contention (which I’m guessing her original plan was to fix it after Worlds) with her Achilles strain that way she can hopefully heal up for next year

    • Akshay Says:

I really don’t know what is going on with Team Russia, but I think GTT might be right. Nabs might be behind all of this. LOL.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Its like that Nadia movie with the bleach in the cup

      • Akshay Says:

or pulling a Nastia with the laxatives in the shake lol.
I think there is legitimately a chance that Russia might not get a single gold medal this year at Worlds (if Aliya doesn’t medal somewhere), which is stunning. Also I know this was posted on Tumblr yesterday (by ikttruth), but imagine if there was a TF this year? Russia and Romania would be in big trouble.

      • Gymbee Says:

I wish the Rodionenko’s would get the sack in that case!

      • biyatch Says:

Russia and Romania would be in trouble if this was a TF year, but honestly the US wouldn’t be in great shape either for a team final situation. Vault and floor would be fine, but besides Kyla’s bars and beam routines who else would you want up in the 3 up 3 count situations on those events? Simone has potential on both but has yet to show the consistency Marta really likes, Ebee could be useful on bars.

If this was a team worlds I’d imagine the team would be:
Simone, Kyla, Brenna, Ebee, McKayla and Peyton.
V: (Kyla, Ebee), Brenna, Simone, McKayla
UB: (Brenna, Peyton), Simone, Ebee, Kyla
BB: (Brenna, Ebee), Peyton, Simone, Kyla
FX: (Kyla, Brenna), Ebee, Simone, McKayla

Yes, this is better what Russia, Romania and China have shown this year, but compared to last year or even 2011 this seems like a much weaker team. Out of the 12 up last year I think it could be argued that the only “weak” point in that lineup was Jo on bars, all the other positions were pretty solid. The apparatus with this lineup that you can say is 100% solid is vault.

      • exgymgurl Says:

If you only have dowell in vault for TF I would bring skinner over dowell….I would then put skinner on floor over price. I would only use EBee on bars. How well a healthy Katelyn would fit on that team

      • Akshay Says:

I’m not so sure I’d bring Skinner over Dowell, because I think her form will be slaughtered by international judges more so than Dowell. I think Skinner should get coaching at somewhere like Brestyan’s, and clean up the form because she is totally capable of throwing some huge skills, but she’s doing literally that… throwing the hardest skills possible without any regard to her form. Like her one handed block on her Cheng Vault? I’ve also heard rumors she is trying to add another half twist to that vault.

      • biyatch Says:

International judges could easily give Skinner a 0 on her vault for not abiding by rule 10.1 in the code. “All vaults must be performed with repulsion from both hands off the
vaulting table.” She barely, and sometimes doesn’t touch the table, when the code pretty clearly says she needs to push off from both hands. Plus as much as I hate Dowell’s gymnastics, I would much rather have her up on beam or bars than Skinner in the event she is needed.

For 2014, the juniors turning senior next year that placed in the top 8 are Hundley, Hults, Baumann, and Shchennikova. If Shchennikova can fix form on bars she could make an impact but as it stands she has big difficulty but her execution is making her less valuable than even Aly on bars. Amelia is an interesting one who I could see either playing a Vega type role or kind of getting stuck in the middle like a Kennedy Baker status, same with Nica. Plus for some reason Marta does not seem to be Nica’s biggest fan.

Going off what you have right now, you’d think Marta would be very receptive to getting Jordyn, Aly of Gabby back for 2014. Gabby seems like a long shot with her new fame seeking ways and with Jo heading to school and Aly just starting back in the gym its too early to call on those two. I do hope Aly does decide to take some part time classes. She’s lost both her elite training partner (Alicia) and the core of the level 10 group she work out with is off to NCAA so training is most likely going to be drastically different for her.

  13. DL Says:

Y’all made me laugh with all these comments. (I read them last night after having several cocktails.)

My favourite comment about Miley Cyrus that I’ve seen is “She needs to brush her tongue.”

    • Tortuga Says:

A white-ish or pale color on the tongue is bacteria that needs to be scrapped or brushed, so you definitely want a more pink or red tongue. And in the pics from that night looks like it needs to be brushed.

      • Dee2 Says:

I haven’t commented in a long time, but I just wanted to let you all know, due to the tongue comments, mine got an extra thorough cleaning today!

  14. GymMom Says:

I read on Twitter tonight that Shawn is enrolled at Vanderbilt & living in the dorms. Some other Vandy students tweeted about it but Shawn has said nothing about it.

    • Akshay Says:

Yeah, I heard that a few weeks ago and I think I might have posted it on another blogpost. I think it’s a good move for her. I think she needs to be at school, especially now, when she’s still around the same age as others. I’m kind of glad she hasn’t made such a big deal out of her being at school (and in classes and all) like Nastia.

      • GymMom Says:

I applaud Shawn for getting her education, part of which involves spending time with kids her age. Vanderbilt was a good choice. I hope she sticks it out.

      • Brouhaha Says:

Good for Shawn to prepare for her future. Vanderbilt is a great school, she’ll do well there

    • mimi Says:

yay shawn! im actually really happy to hear this.

  15. Katie Says:

Hey guys! Rewriting Russian Gymnastics just posted an amazing interview with alexandrov and his daughter was the interviewer.

    • byrdisthewyrd Says:

I just finished reading it Katie and agree, definitely a must read. It’s long but extremely insightful into Russian gymnastics this past quad. I’d love to hear any comments about it. I think this link will take you to the first part of it. http://rewritingrussiangymnastics.blogspot.co.uk/2013/08/alexander-alexandrov-in-his-own-words-1.html

      • exgymgurl Says:

This is an excellent article. Thank you very much for posting this.

      • mimi Says:

valentina makes marta look like a saint in comparison. and it’s very concerning these girls aren’t sufficiently conditioning and warming up.. they’re all going to break if they aren’t careful. fingers crossed the girls are safely training.

great interview and agree, thanks for sharing!

    • sj0126 (@sj0126) Says:

“As of today, I think Grishina is in a good place unless Rodionenkos will start to “choke her”. Unfortunately she wasn’t able to show her full potential in the past four years, but today her situation is much more stable. She has great new coaches, and as long as Rodionenkos will let her coaches train her the way they see fit and will not place her on their “unfavourable list”, she can certainly show great results.”

Well I think this explains what’s happened with Grishina very well. Very good interview. He doesn’t pull any punches. Talks about times that ALiya heard the things they were saying about her that was very cruel and would be hurt and how he told her to prove them wrong. They were a great match for coach/gymnast. Too bad the Rodionenko’s BS ruined it.

    • Katie Says:

I feel bad for everything I said about arkaev. Alexandrov paints him in a much different light than what he seemed to be. It really is just so strange why the rodioneknos are still in power. I get why Andrei came into power but how are they still in power? Valentina is unhinged. Forget the weird lies that she tells, how does she get away with talking ish about all of the gymnasts?

      • Lithi Says:

Considering her daughter is married to a cohort of Vladimir Putin explains mucho.

    • Catherine Says:

It is ridiculously good. So much effort went into this. Post comments on the blog, they will be seen by Isa and shared with her dad. So so many things confirmed, so many rage-inducing bits, some sad, always frank and informative, and above all, really shocking.

    • Akshay Says:

Can I just say, mad respect for Alexandrov for letting it all out? If there are shady things going on behind the scenes like this , then someone needs to step up and expose the truth like this. I wish someone would do the same with USAG and Marta’s games as well.

  16. Katie Says:

Also I think the picture of chuso bogi and Dominique was cute. I know galieva hates him but I can’t think of any gymnast that calls him abusive.

    • Catherine Says:

No, he apologised to Galieva, explaining the circumstances and why he had to do it. She has forgiven him, and defended him last year.

      • Gymbee Says:

What was the story with Galieva?

      • sj0126 (@sj0126) Says:

he took her out of the AA in 92 and put Gutsu in

      • Katie Says:

He subbed galieva out for gutsu in the 92aa and made up some bogus injury. Galieva was bitter for a very long time and wouldn’t speak to gutsu at all even though gutsu split her prize money with her. Alexandrov has always been apologetic about the whole thing and said that he had unbearable pressure to bring home as many ussr medals as possible for their last Olympic games. I did not know that she accepted his apology and I’m glad to hear it. She got burned by the system but it wasn’t alexandrov’s fault and it definitely wasn’t gutsu’s fault.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

It was Alexandrov’s fault because he lied and he was an adult. I don’t care how much pressure he was under he broke the rules. He cheated.

I read the whole article and did not see any comments about Roza or the alleged mean old USSR who weren’t even in existence anymore when 92 happened. Any pressure he alleges is BS because there was no more Soviet Union. They essentially cheated to compete as a team instead of individual to remain the super power

      • Akshay Says:

I’m sure we can agree that Gutsu should have been splitting the second place earnings with Galieva, and Miller should have gotten the first.

      • Gymbee Says:

Ahh I remember now (hearing about it). Thanks gym geniuses ๐Ÿ™‚

  17. Catherine Says:

Chellsie Memmel is getting married today! Diana Bulimar won the AA at the Netherlands friendly, but with no upgrades. New floor though. Sandra’s floor was watered down, some issues with landings- low score, 13.4 I think. Rebecca Tunney has a HUGE bars set- 6.5, interesting combinations. Downie has 6.5 too, and hit beam- 6.0.

  18. exgymgurl Says:

All of the floor scores except Bulimars were low. I looked at the list and I think Bulimar was the only one over 14. It will be interesting to see what the Russians and the Chinese produce at worlds, because I guess everyone else is in rebuild and ramp mode
