Who makes the 2013 World Championships team: The August edition

Everyone from Senior Nationals made the camp to decide the 2013 World team Kocian and Priessman are out with injury. Ohashi was not named to the National team or the camp and is rumored to not be not even training right now.

My question for you a few days after Nationals is which 3 gymnasts do you think will make the World Team? (We will do this blog again in a month)

Marta hinted in a Gymnastike video that she would consider taking only 3 gymnasts ,Simone Kyla and Mckayla and let them duke it out for the 3 spots.

As it stands right now I think taking Simone, Kyla and Mckayla and letting them fight it out for the two AA spots is a good idea. (If Mckayla is ready on bars and beam) but what if she isn’t ready?

Simone and Kyla have already locked up the two AA spots IMO. That leaves the Vault/Floor and Bars/Beam specialist. If mckayla does vault and floor who does bars and beam?

No one at Nationals stepped up into the bars and beam specialist position. Elizabeth Price fell on day one which allowed someone to slip into the third spot on bars and it says a lot that I don’t remember who that even is.

Kyla won beam and Simone finished second and I believe Kennedy Baker was third. Again that doesn’t say much.

What I do know is Skinner, Nichols and Dowell are not going to worlds. If Simone, Kyla and Mckayla are all locks for this team then there is no 3rd spot left for any event but bars and beam.

So we have our locks

Simone Biles- All Around
Kyla Ross- All Around
Mckayla Maroney- Vault and Floor

Then we have

Kennedy Baker
Brenna Dowell
Peyton Ernst
McKayla Maroney
Maggie Nichols
Elizabeth Price
MyKayla Skinner
Abigail Milliet
Madison Desch

My decision right now making a World team is to take the locks and add in Elizabeth Price as the forth gymnast. She is the only person on this list besides the locks that has proven herself this year. Even if it was 7 months ago I would take a chance on letting her go for just bars.

If Mckayla is ready for the AA, Dowell is the alternate. She’s messy as hell to watch but she finished 3rd at Nationals and can fill in on all four events if only difficulty wise. If Mckayla is not doing All Around I am taking Price for bars. Leave the beam spot empty or let Elizabeth or even Mckayla have the spot just so it isn’t left empty.

What do you think?

I agree with you. I think Ernst beat Kyla on beam at Classics (I know, Kyla is way better) so maybe the 4th spot will go to her but then at nationals it seemed like the judges (i.e. Marta) were not having it w/Ernst.

If the Worlds team is 4 spots you have the 3 locks and then the 4th would basically be a benchwarmer filling in as alternate, so it’d likely be someone who could fill in on most of the events. Again I would go with Ernst here, or maybe Dowell – but neither will be used and it will all be for experience.

So Kocian’s ankle injury was bad enough to keep her out of worlds, or do you think they are being very safe with her? As far as a bars/beams specialist she was the closest I think.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Kocian got the Woga extra tenths because she was from Woga especially on beam.

None of these girls proved they deserved to get the bars and beam spot which is why I am fine with letting Maroney take the spot for AA and leaving the 4th spot for an alternate.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I agree with you. I did see potential in Kocian though (Woga or not). Sad how far behind Kyla the rest of the pack is when it comes to bars.

I also would like to see Skinner get finessed by a different coach – like why doesn’t Marta step in there like she obviously did for Gabby?

        Oh well.

      • gingercrush Says:

Hmm because Gabby may have been lots of things such as being a cow and all but she did have good technique something that can’t be taught when someone has bad technique.

  2. gingercrush Says:

I’m going to disagree. Maroney should not be allowed to do AA. Either bring the goods at US Nationals or you don’t do it. As far as I’m aware she is having no injury issues or anything else to prevent her from doing AA. She and her coaches chose to do Floor and vault only and imo she should stick to that.

I wouldn’t take Price. The poor thing looked to be a potential AAer earlier in the year and I think she could have pulled off a stunning Laid-out Double-double. But she isn’t ready and I don’t think she can be considered.

Ideally a UB/BB specialist but as there isn’t currently one I would be happy for either a beam or UB specialist to do worlds. And I think a UB specialist would be better since its the apparatus the US is weak on.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

We have no bar and beam specialist. Sadly the closest one we have is Dowell for her difficulty alone. ( I can’t believe I even spoke those crazy words.lol)

I see no difference is taking Ohashi is theory who didn’t do Nationals but could have if healthy been ready for a role in a month versus taking Maroney especially when we have no option besides the two.

I agree it isn’t fair to crucify say Peyton Ersnt for falling at Nationals vs Mckayla not trying at all but we need 4 gymnasts or 3 gymnasts for 4 spots.

      Someone has to go.

      • exgymgurl Says:

dowell was third on bars at nationals. Can you imagine how far down the list on bars shed be in russia or china?

    • Dee Says:

I agree on the Price thing, as much as I’d love to see her go, I don’t think it’s a good idea. She looks miserable with this injury. I would hate for this to be the beginning of the end for her.

  3. gingercrush Says:

one of the rumours regarding Ohashi is that Liukin dropped her. What a wanker.

    • gingercrush Says:

and he is a wanker anying because his awful UB routine for her would have done her shoulder in.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Too bad Chellsie Memmel couldn’t come back and do bars and beam – hah.

I wish Sarah Finnegan weren’t injured.

      • Case Says:

I said that last weekend…Finnegan is deeply missed in this program right now.

      • mimi Says:

I miss her gymnastics… although her bars were always deceivingly problematical form wise weren’t they? i imagine she would have been up for beam/floor moreso than bars/beam depending on if she fixed up her bars.

      • Dee Says:

I totally missed the boat on Finnegan. What happened to her? And speaking of GAGE, has there been any word at all about Vega? Geeze, why do I feel like half the girls from last quad are in hiding or something?

      • mimi Says:

there was a recent interview with Sabrina floating around a few weeks ago.. I’ll try to hunt it down. from memory she was recovering from injuries but in a good headspace.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I heard that. Why would he drop her is the real question. Would he want Marta’s job so bad that he would be willing to drop a talent like Katelyn ?

      Something else is up here.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Can someone ask her on her ask.fm or whatever it’s called?

      • Dee Says:

hahahha ask.fm. I find it weird if he dropped her, she was posting not that long ago on ask to send fan mail to “my gym, WOGA” to those asking for her address?

      • sj0126 (@sj0126) Says:

The story according to TCG is that Katelyn was the only gymnast he was coaching and decided to transition her to one of the other coaches because of his position in USAG. I guess another gymnast he had already transitioned to another coach so maybe he thought katelyn could do the same

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Katelyn has the potential to win the world AA and go to the Olympics and do the same thing. Valeri isn’t abandoning her for no reason. There has to be a reason he thinks she won’t be around in 3 years. Why would he give her up for a position that won’t be around until 3 years?

      • sportsfan Says:

Why would Valeri want to continue with the hassle of training? He’s already the hand picked successor of Marta’s throne. He can rest on his daughter’s laurels from 08, have her be his and Marta’s direct mouthpiece on NBC, and wield power with complete autonomy. Why continue to work when your set like he is?

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I really think it’s funny how Marta thinks Valerie is a good follow-up to her position because he “knows how to prepare an athlete and a team.” Give me a break. The only athlete he’s ever been able to get to the Olympics was his own daughter, and on top of that she mainly won because the code was in her favor. As for anyone else, he broke Bross (the “superstar” to supposedly follow in Nastia’s footsteps) and he was well on his way to breaking Ohashi before she could even make a statement as a senior. Good grief. The only reason she’s hand selecting Valerie is because she’s certain he will continue in her corrupt, malicious, and deceiving ways.

In order to do so she has to train him like a dog for the next few years so maybe that’s why he dropped Ohashi. He literally has to get in Marta’s head. So he sees the big payday in his future and therefore, dropping Ohashi is no big deal, especially since she’s injured already and you never know what’s going to happen 3+ years before the Olympics. Bross was in Ohashi’s shoes in 2009 – the next “superstar” and look how that turned out.

  4. Case Says:

I’m with Ginger. I’ve been impressed with Maroney’s comeback but I think she’s a two-trick pony at this point. (Is that even a thing?? If not it is now…two trick pony). As much as I’d love to see Ebee take the fourth spot, she’s hurt plus she’s a Parkette which means she’s probably broken forever.

It’s a shame Ohashi has fallen off the face of the earth because she’d be a good fit. I thought Kocian showed some potential prior to her injury. I don’t really like anybody for that 4th bars/beam spot honestly. I guess it’s be Dowell by default.

  5. gymnastwannabe Says:

I think Marta wants 3 AA in case Simone crashes and burns like at Classics. She’s amazing but not predictable. McKayla has shown she can make some stunning progress in a short period of time, she’s experienced, and very confident…so maybe she will be ready. If no one else really has a chance to medal on bars and beam, why not let McKayla have a shot. If she’s not ready, I think Ernest will go.

    • sj0126 (@sj0126) Says:

I agree. Simone fell at American Cup, the Germany meet, Classics and had a big mistake day 2 of championships so far. You never know what she’s gonna do under the pressure at Worlds. I think marta may be thinking if no one really steps it up at the camp just send the locks and see how it all falls.

Ernst was great but ugh why did she have big mistakes on both days? I wish Kocian was healthy. She was lovely on bars and beam and definitely tough. I’m not sure how she rolled her ankle like that and did another tumbling pass.

      • gymnastwannabe Says:

I don’t know how Kocian did another pass, either. I could barely stand to watch the replay…made me think of the times I’ve rolled my ankle. I just hope the tumbling pass didn’t cause further injury. She seems like a tough, determined athlete.

      • sj0126 (@sj0126) Says:

Yeah I just thought about the times I’ve rolled my ankle because I’m a giant klutz and man did that hurt. She’s a tough one.

I think doing the last pass probably made it worse. Too bad. Beside her Abby Milliet and Maddie Desch could go but they both fell all over the place.

      • katecoursey Says:

Watching that in replay….it almost looked like she could’ve broken it. If you think about how much speed and momentum you have after a huge tumbling pass, and how much pressure must’ve fallen on that ankle….yikes. I was totally shocked that she managed to stand up a double back ten seconds later.

    • Tortuga Says:

That would be my choice situation. It’s a good plan because Biles is sometimes head casey. I don’t really know if Maroney will have all events ready but I’ve learned to not doubt her. I personally like Ernst’s style if she could just go as the “just in case gymnast” then compete if the opportunity arises.

      • biyatch Says:

The thing is… even with a couple falls in prelims, Biles D scores are high enough that she could make it into AA finals without any problem. Last year the AA cutoff was 54.2. Especially as long as she hits her vault there is definitely headcase wiggle room in prelims.

      • Catherine Says:

Yes, but only if she has no internal competition. It could well spur her on to do her best.

      • sj0126 (@sj0126) Says:

Yeah that’s only if Maroney doesn’t head case it as well. Vault wouldn’t do much of anything if its McKayla as the person threatening her spot in this hypothetical situation.

I’m honestly curious too how Simone would score internationally. The Euros judges didn’t give Bulimar artistry points and I think she’s more artistic than Simone on beam.

      • Tortuga Says:

Also it won’t really hurt anything for all of them to do routines on all 4 for prelims. Even if Maroney isn’t ready she can just compete the four and qualify for 2. Unless she thinks her body can’t handle that much competition.

      • Catherine Says:

Bulimar’s beam is seriously empty, that’s the problem with it. Simone has more attempts at artistry in it.

An interesting fact for the day is…Simone scored higher with execution than Kyla did at Jesolo. It’s not worlds, and the scoring WAS generous but that is interesting.

  6. mimi Says:

Marta is greedy for medals yes? would she really even consider sending Mckayla for AA if she sucked on bars/beam?

I wonder if she’s BSing to hyper up the other girls to bring their A game or if Mckayla has made much Mir progress behind the scenes than anyone anticipated.

She was recovering from surgery in like Jan/Feb still wasn’t she? She can bounce back quickly but enough for AA I’m not sure.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I don’t see Marta playing head games with gymnasts who have no shot in hell of making the 2016 Olympic team.

      She wouldn’t waste her time.lol

    • gymnastwannabe Says:

Mimi, I think it would depend on how much she sucked. If Mckayla can put up some big scores on floor and vault, it could make up for lower scores on beam and bars. I agree Marta won’t put her in AA if she’s not ready, but I think Marta really wants her ready b/c she wants a third AA if Simone crashes. She can’t replace Mckayla with a different AA since Mckayla can medal on vault and floor. If Mckayla was doing all four events at podium training, her issue may just be endurance at this point.

      • Tortuga Says:

I also wonder if she’s just trying to save her body because AA was a goal of hers, and that would be why she has only competed the two events at classics and nationals.

      • exgymgurl Says:

McKayla has placed top 3 US in AA before in 2011 at classics behind Aly and also at Visas in 2011. She only stopped doing AA because of injury and Marta only wanted her for vault and floor at the olympics

      • Elitefan Says:

Theoretically if McKayla did AA it could be a good place to premiere a triple twisting yurchenko, since if she messed up she could go back to the amanar at event finals…

Doubt Marta is thinking that way but I’d love to see the “Maroney” this year.

      • Uglyfatkid Says:

While anything is possible, I don’t see Maroney making it to AA finals with Biles and Ross competing. Even if she performs all the events in qualifications, she won’t be rated high enough to pass Ross or Biles. Even if there are mistakes by either, I doubt her routines would be high enough overall to pass either one. Of course, now that I say that Biles or Ross are going to fall 5 times and it will happen. Lol. However, barring any huge problems…I don’t see it happening.

      • mimi Says:

I mean, I think she’s got potential for AA and I know she ended up focusing as a specialist between worlds and Olympics for a team spot but I’m just really I’m two minds if she can get the other two events not just comp ready but improved enough to be competitive.. it’s a lot to ask after surgeries and time off. but she’s a determined girl with the goods so it shall be interesting all the same. personally I’d love to see her as an all around gymnast but only if she was legit.

good point GTT. Marta probably thinks (knows?) most of these girls won’t be around for rio.

      • Catherine Says:

Maroney is actually right up there with difficulty on vault and floor alone, it carries her. If she jumps out of the double Arabian she has 6.2 on floor, and her vault is 6.3 of course. If she can manage 5.9 on beam and bars, she’s equal to the difficulty Simone showed at Nationals. Of course, Simone may upgrade and we will always be waiting for Kyla to add a few more tenths…and who knows how her bars will score- but the point is, she’s competitive.

She could- maybe- capitalise. Kyla will not be rewarded for low landings/ wobbly beam, nor will Simone if she makes a silly mistake, or falls of course. Marta would not have McKayla doing the aa as the main goal unless she was showing strong capability to do so.

  7. gymnastwannabe Says:

Didn’t Mckayla do bars and beam at podium training?? If so, what was she like? I didn’t see the footage.

    • H Says:

I saw her doing bars which was much improved since podium training at classics/ranch. She swings better, and it seems (for me) that she is about to up her difficulties in the dismount (more twists). I do not know her D score, anyone?

      • sj0126 (@sj0126) Says:

I think her D score in the last quad was around 5.8 on bars and she made it a little more difficult. She added a shaposh half I believe (don’t quote me on that, still learning the skills names) at least. At podium training she would do parts of the routine on bars and beam. I don’t think she had the endurance yet to do full routines yet.

  8. Lis Says:

BTW, last night I had a nightmare. An overly-tanned (orange almost) Nastia was running RIGHT AT ME yelling “It was a Delchev!” I will never be the same.

  9. tulip Says:

I completely agree with everything you said. My take on Nationals was not very positive at all. Kyla looked the most prepared with Simone and Mckayla next. Regardless, Marta needs to take a fourth. If anything its to get a new girl on the international stage.

  10. gymnastwannabe Says:

On a totally different note, it ticked me off that NBC brought up Mckayla’s broken toe during the Olympics but not Jordyn’s fracture. Instead of “let’s remember Jordyn the amazing athlete who competed injured and was underscored,” we get “let’s remember Jordyn who crashed, cried, and didn’t meet our or her expectations.” I hate NBC.

    • sj0126 (@sj0126) Says:

They’ll bring it up at next years Classics and NAtionals when Jordyn competes again. I said it so it shall be true, ok gym gods?! But yeah Tim would have talked about it if she was out there. He always loved Jordyn a lot.

      • biyatch Says:

I honestly wouldn’t get to hyped about Jo being back next year. In order to be a student manager for the team (which all accounts say she will be) she has to be a full time student according to NCAA rules, meaning a full course load of classed. So that’s dedicating hours to college classes, to her responsibilities to the team and being a college freshman. Since she can’t workout with the team all training is in addition to team stuff. I just can’t see her managing elite level workouts on top of all that. (Plus w/o trips to the Ranch you know Marta will get pissy.)

      • sainabou nyang Says:

I don’t see Jordyn coming back period. She is one person who cant afford to not show up at camp.Aly will try for a comeback as a specialist but I think Marta will use her to push the floor/vt/beam people-Lexie, Skinner, Amelia even harder.

      • sj0126 (@sj0126) Says:

yeah i know. i just really want her to so i want to will it into existance basically, haha. she is doing a meet and greet thing at wallers gym next week sometime. it gives me a little hope that there may be training involved.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I think she really had to have been serious at one point given what we were seeing with Geddert. She had her double double back and everything. She seriously looked ready to go.

Maybe with what went down w/Geddert (the assault thing), it really shook her and her family up and they figured it might be best for now to focus on having a more normal life. I’m sure Rita wanted her daughter as far away from that situation as possible, and what better way than to ship her to UCLA for school? Maybe once there the gym bug will bite her again and she’ll resume training after a semester or so, but only time will tell. At this point it doesn’t look good; she obviously hasn’t been back to training in a while and she’s really focusing on having that college life. I can’t blame her for wanting it though.

I just do hope she gives it a try or something, because she might regret it later. This is the last opportunity for her (like next few years, at least) to stay competitive in the sport at the elite level.

  11. JAS4 Says:

I agree with GTT! (Once Marta sets her mind to something she usually tries to make it happen if possible) lol

  12. sportsfan Says:

If the three locks are Simone, Kyla and Mckyala, then I would just take a fourth to be a body/see where their head is at. That kind of pressure can only be created by the magnitude of Worlds itself. Let someone who is just a steady competitor go out there and gauge their reaction to the big stage. If they handle the bright lights well, then you may have an ace you can fall back on if Simone headcases, or whatever other issue may come up.

  13. exgymgurl Says:

I think Brenna will be the 4th. Shes been bringing it at camp. I dont think it translates but I think Brenna will be the other gymnast. SAD for USA gymnastics.

    • mimi Says:

peyton! id love that kid to get a chance. i bet being picked would send her confidence right up! kim z said she’s incredibly calm, marta should love that.

poor brenna, she’s obviously a hard worker and made so many improvements.. but still can’t love her gymnastics. A+ for neat hair and pretty leos though!

  14. Uglyfatkid Says:

Can some one (Catherine, GTT, anybody?…lol) clarify the open spots at worlds this year please? I just realized that I am not 100% sure on the format. I know that 4 girls go, and that there is no team competition. But how many slots are available during qualifications for each event? 3? For instance at the Olympics 5 girls went, but only 4 could qualify on each event. So one girl sat out each round/event. The top 2 girls for each country are then allowed in to finals. Is the format the same? So 3 spots to qualify? Or are all 4 spots open this year? I will assume 3 for my predictions below. Can someone please confirm what the hell is happening please? Lol

If Maroney is NOT doing AA (and I would predict that she is not), the team will be: Ross, Biles, Maroney, and Price. If the name of the game is metals, then this is your team. Price is for sure iffy with her injury, but she is the only one I see possibly making it into EF on bars other than Ross and MAYBE Biles. In truth, I only see Ross making it to UB finals regardless of who they send.

VT – Maroney and Biles obviously
FX – Same as directly above
BB – Ross and possibly Biles (she’d have to nail her routine in quals)
UB – Ross and possibly Price

I do not think there is anyone else (who is currently on the national team) who has a chance of metaling at worlds with the “locks” going. It’s a shame Sara, Katelynn, Sabrina and the rest aren’t healthy. They would have made this REALLY interesting.

    • mimi Says:

I somehow think sabrina wouldn’t have factored in.. and if katelyn was healthy she’d be a done deal and you’d have a team of katelyn, kyla, mckayla and simone no doubt. but all the injuries make it interesting as its not predictable!

i can’t see ebee getting a medal her difficulty is down and her body looks like its still recovering😦

but I agree my head is done in going WTF with this 3 qualify with 4 girls business. numbers are not my strong suit so it makes my head hurt trying to understand it!

    • Catherine Says:

Teams of 4, only 3 gymnasts per event in prelims, 2 per country in all finals.

If Price goes, she’d do bars, Maroney vault and floor, and it would be decided beforehand which of them for beam..if only for experience. If Ernst goes, it would be clearcut bars and beam, Maroney vault and floor. Dowell…hmm. Despite her improvement she hasn’t impressed in competition. She’s the ideal alternate if they bring Maroney for the aa, but she’s not really fitting into the specialist role. I wanted Milliet to do beam before I noticed Kocian, but she didn’t impress either.

This makes Britain’s team interesting as well, the 3 per event. Same for Italy. Russia’s team is a mess with Komova not training and Grishina having back issues.

  15. sainabou nyang Says:

If Marta wants three AA, then she should bring ebee for bars only. Her beam routine at world cups was not great. My other choice would be Peyton who has been solid in int’l competitions so far. Either way I don’t see the US medaling on bars at worlds unless everyone else messes up. Beam maybe. I don’t see Simone getting a 15 overseas. I could see them giving it to iordache.

China is rumored to be bringing Yao, Huang Huidan, Shang Chunsong, and Zenq siqi.

Therefore the line up for bars and beam could be:

Bars: Yao,musty, komova (if she’s recovered and ready),another Chinese girl, kyla, seitz?? Harrold

Beam:Iordache, biles, shang, zeng, musty?, ross, ferlito,

    • Catherine Says:

Huang Huidan’s tentative spot is weak, she barely ever hits inside but especially outside of China. I want Tan Jiaxin who should get that spot because she can vault as well as have spectacular bars, but apparently if she makes the team there’s too many from the one province and they wouldn’t be happy with that.

  16. sanitynmotion Says:

Yeah the problem with Kyla is that while she’s most prepared and makes the best bars/beam specialist in the US right now (in addition to being an AA contender), her D scores aren’t good enough with the current crop of Russians, Romanians, and Chinese. Unless they fall or have really sloppy routines, Kyla will miss that beam podium (a 5.8 D score is not gonna hang with the rest of them).

Same with her bars. Musty and the Chinese will clean up podium if she doesn’t get her D score up, and it doesn’t look like she will. I’m assuming Komova is injured or not able to show in this scenario too. If Komova is there then even more so.

  17. biyatch Says:

Hey GTT random question but did anyone ever hear the reason Bridgey Caquatto left Legacy Elite for her senior year of high school and trained at Texas Dreams? I know the Caquattos were lots of drama around ’08 trials but I don’t remember ever hearing an explanation for that move. Bridgey won PanAms and was never heard from the year after til she showed up at Florida.

  18. Catherine Says:

And Grishina is out of worlds with back pain. Sounds like an attitude problem- or at least they are implying it is ‘She walked out of training saying her back was sore..there was nothing we could do..it is disappointing when the girls act like this.’ Why can’t they just say suspected back problem instead of painting her as a dramatic liar.

Last spot if Komova goes between Nabieva, Paseka and Sosnitskaya. Paseka was the least impressive of the 3.

    • sj0126 (@sj0126) Says:

ugh the russians are such a overdramatic mess. and russian super fans wonder why people call them divas sometimes when their coaches say shit like this.

that’s really too bad about grishina. Why is it that she’s lying about her back problems but komova wasn’t?

      • sanitynmotion Says:

That sucks. I was hoping the 2009 Worlds would somewhat make up for the lack of competition at the Olympic games – you’d have a healthy Iordache, Yao Jinnan (at least at the time I was hoping), a recovered Musty and Komova, and maybe a more confident Grishina.

Now it seems like Worlds will be all about who will be the last person standing. Basically a Marta Karolyi training camp. Blah.

People on Twitter are claiming that they’ve decided it’s Nabieva who’s going (which I guess makes more sense than sending Paseka).

      • Catherine Says:

Yes that’s the latest! In fairness to her, she won 5/6 golds at Russian Cup, which while it was a very empty competition..she beat Paseka on her pet events. Definitely it’s Komova’s spot now and if she can’t go at all, then Paseka. I’m THRILLED about seeing the glorious expressions of Nabieva in person.

    • sj0126 (@sj0126) Says:

here’s the article detailing it. the last spot is between komova and paseka. they’re just not sure she’ll be ready after the injury and this sickness now too.

Bozo took Leyva’s spot on men’s world team. I honestly didn’t watch the men compete so I don’t know what he has looked like. The thing that irks me about him is that he says he said he wanted to make the Olympic team to support his family. Not for his love or passion for the sport, but for financial gain. I guess that shouldn’t matter to me but it does. This is a job to him not an ambitious love affair. It sort of mocks the sport in my eyes. Then he completely crumbled under the pressure at the games and cried in a corner. I knew he had a knee injury recently and I wasn’t expecting him to be back so soon. But like I said it I haven’t paid attention to his routines this year so I can’t say he didn’t deserve the spot.

    • Karlie Says:

He didn’t have just any knee injury – he tore his ACL. I’m not a huge fan of hs gymnastics but I give him major props for recovering from both ACL and Achilles injuries successfully.

    Gabby better RUN!

Sounds like it wasn’t her decision to move to LA.

“She came over (Monday) and said goodbye to us,” Liwen said. “I didn’t ask her (the reasons). I did talk to her. She was a little upset. I guess that’s a family decision for her.”

“She left on Tuesday,” Missy Parton said. “Her family already moved to L.A. this summer. Her brother is going to school there.”

“We were not really sure for a long time, because we heard from other people first,” she said. “Nothing was really confirmed. We didn’t really know for sure. We heard some rumors.

    “It’s kind of awkward.”

    • terrigymfan Says:

The best thing that ever happened to Gabby IMO is moving in with her host family in Iowa and getting away from her own dysfunctional family. Now she is going to be with them full-time and also in LA where the distractions can be crushing without a solid family support group. Not good for Gabby.

      • Stephen Says:

I agree. She needs to pay off any debt to her mother and get emancipated ASAP. I wonder if she realises that her newfound wealth will be shortlived with an entire family leeching off you in one of the most expensive cities on earth.

      • Karlie Says:

I called this in the other thread – her mother is making the decision for her, just like when Gabby “chose” to go pro.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Hate to break it to you (that is a saying not meant as anything more.lol) but isn’t it a MOTHERS JOB to decide things for her kids? Gabby is still technically a child.
Unless she becomes emancipated her mother is in control

  21. H Says:

Here is an overview of D and E score during this year from Uncle Tim.
Interesting to see a comparison between Kyla and Simones E-score etc.
As well “which gymnast have improved most etc”

  22. H Says:

    Late to the table …
I think it will be Ross, Maroney and Biles with Brenna as alternate.

(It would be very interesting to see where Maroney is at as an AA gymnast this year).

Sad if Komova is out, seems like we never get a healthy battle between the top contenders.
