USA-Gymnastics Video contest. VOTE

VOTE for Kyla. USOC, Athlete of the month

One girl is promising to give away the Ipad if she wins.  (she’s in first place) The Triple Twist girls will give away the second set of American Cup tickets if they both win (they are third and 4th at the moment) and the girl in second place isn’t promising anyone anything if she wins but her video isn’t about the best moments in USA-Gymnastics history . Its about kids wanting to be the next great gymnast. Its a beautiful video and I voted for it because she did a beautiful job but I am afraid the gymternet owes the Triple Twist girls

So I say we all help out the Triple Twist girls because they gave us their great behind the scenes at Geddert video for free.

First and second video. VOTE for them. You can vote for more than one video a day just not the same video and while I would have re-thrown my  support behind the Shannon video it is way too behind to ever win.

We get great interviews like this from Triple Twist too.

    I voted.

I voted but couldn’t help but note the girl’s video in first place was set to ASac’s last floor routine music. Kind of sad. I hope someone else uses that music and has as good of a routine to it because I was bummed we couldn’t see her perform it at Worlds or later because of her injury.

  3. Catherine Says:

Kristen Baskett uses music of Alicia’s but not sure the year- either 2010 or 2011.

I’m not annoyed, that’s too strong a word but it would be nice if it was an actual competition and not a popularity or bribery contest.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

I was kind of annoyed that some of the videos “greatest moments in USAG history” featured Mary Lou and Nastia’s Olympic wins but didn’t really have anything on Gabby – FF yes but not Gabby’s win. Even though Gabby is a brat. I think I was more annoyed that Nastia was featured, haha.

Oh, and nothing on Shannon. Really? We have Mary Lou and Kim Zmeskal but not Shannon in some of those videos. And of course Strug’s vault.

I did like the children’s video though.

Oh and that ASac music was her floor from the last quad. I don’t think her music changed between 2010 and 2011. It was her floor that she debuted in 2011 though and never could bring back in 2012. I loved, LOVED that floor routine (and mainly because of the music).

      • Catherine Says:

Ah, well it is the girl that I was thinking of but I mixed her up with a NCAA gymnast. Kirsten Beckett does use this music, or some of it. I really like her.

      • katecoursey Says:

As much as I’m not a Nastia fan, you can’t deny the medal count…she had a far more impressive career than Gabby thus far. Nastia has what, nine world/Olympic medals? Gabby has three, and only one individual title. And Mary Lou was the first US AA winner on the Olympic stage (even if the Olympics were boycotted). So it makes sense that Mary Lou and Nastia would be featured more than Gabby, who really only has one major individual title on any level (national or international). Hell, I consider Jordyn’s career (taken as a whole) to be far more impressive than Gabby’s, even if she didn’t win Olympic AA. When it comes down to it, Gabby is the least accomplished Olympic AA winner the US has ever had (in terms of her other titles) and her one big win is heavily disputed among gym fans (those that think Komova should’ve won, and those that think Gabby should’t have even been in that final in the first place). I think it’s appropriate that Nastia and Mary Lou’s wins figure more heavily into these video than Gabby’s.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Agreed but it doesn’t explain why Miller is ignored altogether.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I know katecoursey…I just am so “bleck” on Nastia. To me she’s worse than Gabby attitude-wise.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Gabby is a cocky brat but you never hear of her treating other gymnasts badly. Nastia pissed on anyone that beat her in the AA.

      • katecoursey Says:

Lol fair enough…I think I am still a little sore about how the 2012 AA turned out, so there’s always that 🙂

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Yeah I am still mad that Gabby even MADE it to the AA over Jordyn. That should not have happened, and I blame the beam judges.

      • Tortuga Says:

I’ve been holding this all back for a few days so bare with me please.

Lately I’ve been reminded of how I’m still bitter that Shawn didn’t win the all around in 08. I know she says she wouldn’t trade the silver for anything and is not a sore loser, but I just wanted it for her. She’s pretty strong on every event (not so much bars.) Where as Nastia was strong on just bars and beam. Her vault was so watered down of course she could do it with little deduction. How can someone win the all around with a 1 1/2 yurchenko? Oh yea you code whore the hell out of your bar routine! Her floor was just okay. She is more elegant v. Shawn but she still had cowboy legs and crossed legs on twisting elements. Her bars just gave her a HUGE advantage with all the code whoring. But I guess that is what you have to do to win. Now we have to hear about her FOREVER. Please someone come through this quad with more world and Olympic medals and knock her out of the way. Please let it be some one who is gracious and level headed that won’t drag out the Hot Pink saga.

Luckily Shawn did win her gold and beam and four year fans think she won the AA instead, and that is fine with me! lol.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I totally agree with you as I wanted it for Shawn as well. Shawn was actually good at all 4 events – her bars, while not “code whored,” were very clean (legs together, straight handstands, solid form). If she had had a higher D score in her bars, she would have stood a better chance. But it appeared the judges were standing ground on having Nastia win when they were all of a sudden deducting Shawn for form issues (180 degree splits) whereas they weren’t deducting Nastia for form issues (cowboying, legs separated on every giant/swing in bars, etc.)

I think what Chow learned from that whole experience was to never underestimate a competitors’ advantage, and to gain traction on his side he made sure to have strong D scores in all 4 events when it came to Gabby. He made sure she got the amanar and upped her bars D score, and her beam/floor also had good D scores. His biggest mistake with Shawn was not having her do a more difficult bars set to offset Nastia’s gain.

I agree though if it weren’t for that code Nastia would have been a freakin specialist; that code completely served her purpose. And I still have no clue why her floor was so highly scored in Beijing; she was nowhere near the floors final podium in the four years leading up to it at other international competitions, and all of a sudden she’s getting bronze? Puh-lease.

      • sj0126 (@sj0126) Says:

The thing that really made it so much easier for Nastia to win was the insane bar D scores in that code. If they hadn’t counted so many skills like they did this past quad onward it would have been a lot harder to win. I don’t think she would have honestly. Her bar routine was a 6.5 under this code and her beam was like 6.2 or something I think. Shawns beam was still a 6.4. If she added in a couple more things to her bars she would have had a big advantage.

I mean Beth, He Kexin and Nastia wouldn’t had even gotten into the uneven bars finals if that had happened at this years Olympics with their falls/big mistakes. I’m glad they got rid of that.

and yeah I get why the vids have Nastia in there. She won medals at every worlds for an entire quad. That’s a huge feat. I definitely think she should be in there over Gabby. I agree with whoever said Jordyns career is more impressive even though she doesn’t have the Olympic AA. 2 American Cups, 2 individual worlds medals, 2 US Championships, etc, etc. She just got hurt at the absolute worst time.

      • biyatch Says:

        Jo actually has 3 American Cups ’09, ’11, ’12

      • Tortuga Says:

I’m not doubting that Nastia has had a lot of success. She is one of the few gymnasts that became a senior the year after an Olympics and stayed prevalent throughout the entire quad and the Olympic games. That is pretty un-heard of nowadays. Aly was pretty prevalent but not a successful as Nastia but she wasn’t a senior till 2010. Jordyn is pretty close also but doesn’t have as much world or Olympic success, nor was she on her 4th senior season in 2012. Longevity just vanished in the US after 2000. I think everyone saw what happened in 2000 with Dawes and Chow and didn’t want to end up like them. Marta only wants fresh meat to break down. I just have a hard time believing that Nastia has genuinely great sportsmanship like Shawn, Jordyn or Aly. Or as successful or humble as Shannon! She thought she would deserve a spot on an Olympic team with less than a year of work and only ONE hit bar routine, on merit of past accomplishments from 4 years ago. Not to mention she gets by with form issues because she has a rhythmic style or presentation. Ugh.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I have no respect for Nastia. She is all about herself and always has been. She very much felt like she deserved a spot just for showing up.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Oh, cool – thanks for sharing. I didn’t know who this Kirsten Beckett was so wasn’t sure of your reference.

Yeah I just really like that music. Soooo much better than some other choices made over the years…

  4. Case Says:

Totally off topic, but I’m thoroughly enjoying watching Jose Iglesias in a Tigers uniform. Thank you Boston!

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Shut The kid is having a great year. I hope he can keep it up for you just not against us:)

  5. Catherine Says:

Chow’s next BTR coming out tomorrow, I’ll post a synopsis here. By the way, their senior Rachel Gowey is out with back stress fractures so we won’t see her at Nationals either. It’s a shame, she has style and some great skills- 3.5 twist on floor, fantastic BHS-LOSO-LOSO (90’s <3) on beam.

    • byrdisthewyrd Says:

Thanks Catherine! I can’t wait for the synopsis! I agree, that’s so disappointing about Rachel Gowey. I was really hoping to see her compete this year. I wonder if it’s weird for Gabby to have other people in the gym getting attention now too.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

It has to be good “real world experience” for Gabby if there are other elites getting lots of attention. If anything Gabby has a lot to prove if she does do a full comeback (given her attitude and “raising the bar” nonsense).

I guess she also had to experience that when training with Shawn Johnson though.

      • Catherine Says:

This episode focuses on Chow, though sadly doesn’t mention his own gymnastics career. The girls mention how he can be serious when he has to be, but always tries to make practice fun. It shows him with his 6 elites/level 10’s (Gabby, Rachel, Alexis, Norah, Courtney and Victoria- last 2 level 10) opposite each other in 3’s and one group is picking out of a partner from the other with their eyes closed..something like that! Some training footage, half bar routines, vault timers. Gabby is only shown doing splits. Focuses a good bit on Chow actually coaching then.

Chow mentions how he was looking forward to seeing Beijing again as he hadn’t been there in 14 years and how hw got a great welcome from people who were so happy for him that he was doing well in America. Also mentions his first time meeting Marta at Shawn’s first national team camp. Briefly mentions qualities of some of the girls, says Norah is like a machine, very hard working and dedicated, and very like Shawn at the same age. Also says that when he just had an empty gym and long before Shawn was a world champion, he was just so proud to be building his future. He is basically adorable. So there wasn’t a whole lot of substance in this episode but I still enjoyed Chow’s little anecdotes.

      • byrdisthewyrd Says:

Wonderful. Thank you so much Catherine. I just become more and more of a Chow fan with every new piece of info I hear about him. I have big hopes for Norah and can’t wait to see her compete again at Nationals! She definitely has a determined look about her.

      • Catherine Says:

Oh yeah he said after Beijing he went for a McDonald’s one time and the guy was saying ‘That’s that coach!’. Chow rolls down the window and says ‘My name is Chow’. 😀

  6. exgymgurl Says:

This is a pretty funny page, where I saw the pic of Komova with all the tape on her back. They get a lot of good pics of Komova and Mustafina

    • Catherine Says:

They’re taking them from Vika’s instagram and vk.

      • Lithi Says:

Weren’t those accounts private? I remember a stink raised by some of Komova’s and Mustafina’s fans who had access to these private accounts but were yoinking and posting them publicly. The yoinkers were all “EVERYTHING ON THE INTERNET IS PUBLIC, WHAT’S THE BIG DEAL?”

Then again, their accounts could be public and I’m just babbling. :p

      • Tortuga Says:

Vika’s instagram is public. I was able to follow her so I assume it’s public.

  7. exgymgurl Says:

Okay well I dont have vikas instagram, but I do read spanish and the comments are pretty funny. Someone asked where I saw the kineseology tape picture. I think they lift from Aliyas instagram also which I thought was private at one point….

GymTruthTeller, are we allowed to mention IG posters by their screen name?
