2013 Us Classic Podium Training

The kids went home and I am beyond exhausted. Pouring rain you would think it would be board game time inside but nope, she played in the rain. My niece brought her boots, raincoat and umbrella so I sit here in wet pants blogging. Ah the life of being the best Auntie EVER!

Thanks to all the girls not wearing pink. Mckayla you need to move on from the pink , please. Send me an e-mail and I will buy you a leotard if you promise to make it red, white and blue.

I appreciate the effort USA-Gymnastics but No sound on floor and across the room beam routines you might have done a better job placing the camera’s. (Vault senior is not too bad)

Hey I just got a Happy Birthday from wordpress. 4 years ago today I signed up for this blog. Happy Birthday to me:)

~~~~~~
27.35 we get Kyla on beam
Hey Chris Burdette, get out of the way of the camera. Marta is standing there watching Kyla do her usual beam. Is the punch front new? You would think I could remember the routine she has been doing for years. Marta walks away ignoring whoever that is that gets up after her. Mckayla walked into the shot sometime during the last few minutes and she tries to talk to Kyla when she gets off the beam but Kyla heads straight to Jenny.
30.34 up goes Mckayla. Punch front. Back hand spring, layout. It looks like maybe eventually she wants to connect all 3. Punch front in a pike position. Oh you all saw this. What did you think?
40.22 Kyla is back on beam. She falls. Gets back on and gets off again. This is boring me.
At exactly 55.00 Kyla has the double Pike back in her routine. She also did the whip to a double tuck. While these are not amazing upgrades this means she will have a higher start value then 5.3. Not sure how much more but my guess is the whip to the double tuck will at least add a tenth and the D, double Pike also adds some value. Ad that to her double Arabian that still leave one more pass.
at 59.00 I am pretty sure that is some sort of full in. I think the twist was on the first flip. I need to find my glasses. 100.26 she does it again. This has to make the start value at least a 5.8 right? We never saw the double Arabian I am just assuming she still has that as her opening pass.
This is why I like Kyla. She is the only one of the floor looking out for other people. Maggie Nichols thinks she owns the floor never looking at anyone and Kyla moves out of the way for Erin Macadaeg. Kyla has the gold medal and she is moving out of the way for Erin Macadaeg. The only reason I even know who Erin Macadaeg is is because I just saw her picture in the link earlier or I would be calling her that girl.
I won’t be around much tomorrow (the kids are coming to take over my house and time til about 8 PM) so any discussion of the Classics until the actual Classics goes in this blog.
USA=Gymnastics has all the info.
Live podium training coverage. There will be a live stream of both junior (8:30 a.m. CT) and senior (11 a.m. CT) podium training from the Secret U.S. Classic on Friday, July 26. The stream will be available on SecretClassic.com/live.
~~~~~

Simone Biles has a pretty impressive feat in this video. I know it is one of those trampoline like floor’s but she totally lands this with head and chest up.

  1. JAS4 Says:

    Simone gets so much height and power on her double double that I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see her do the triple double on the competition floor.

  2. Catherine Says:

    The floor that will be at Antwerp is bouncy and gymnasts with power to spare at the end of a tumble are flying out of bounds…it was used at EYOF and Doha at least, not sure about others. So Simone needs to upgrade her first and last pass or control them better…she’s very Daiane Dos Santos on them. I’d be very surprised to see a triple double this year..even a leap from the first pass would help though.

  3. exgymgurl Says:

    Soo where is EBee? Nothing on her twitter….

    And Simone has so much power.. even on the tumble track

    • mimi Says:

      she pulled out of the classic, didnt she? or am i remembering that wrong?

      • byrdisthewyrd Says:

        Yeah I think you’re right, mimi. It seems like I read that she tweaked her hip again or something.

      • Karlie Says:

        According to her aunt, she strained her hip and pulled out. She was originally slated for bars and vault

  4. Tortuga Says:

    Is anyone trying to stream podium training right now? I’m on the sight and still on stand by. Just checking if anyone else is watching yet. I’m still kinda new to the live stream. Never mind as I’m typing it started playing lol!

  5. exgymgurl Says:

    If you go to youtube there is more than one view. I wish they were doing four screen. Right now its warmups

    • Tortuga Says:

      Yeah, I moved over to youtube so I could get the larger picture view and just started moving around to the different events.

      • mimi Says:

        i watched a bit but it find it weird without sound (only worked for bars view) so i gave up lol.

  6. exgymgurl Says:

    EBee is not competing. She apparently tweaked her other hip in practice yesterday and they decided to be on the safe side and not compete.
    GOod to know Donna Strauss is using common sense

  7. Catherine Says:

    Everybody needs to watch Nia Dennis’ beam tomorrow. Her arabian is so high, perfectly upright..it makes it look like a different skill!

  8. byrdisthewyrd Says:

    I wonder why McKayla is practicing on beam if she is only doing floor and vault. Just for the extra practice?

    • Tortuga Says:

      I thought the same thing. But Kyla was practicing all events at Scam and only did exhibition on beam. I think they do it to keep up skill level. I’ve heard elite coaches say wtih more than 2 days off gymnasts forget how to do skills. I’m sure it’s not really losing just a small lack in muscle memory.

      • Tortuga Says:

        That was suppose to go under byrdisthewyrd’s comment. I suck at technology today!

      • byrdisthewyrd Says:

        Hahaha! Thanks Tortuga. You’re right, I have heard about that losing skills bit. It just felt like such a tease!

    • exgymgurl Says:

      Probably for verification. Marta uses this as an extra camp before championships, and in podium training they can get things or progress verified. Probably because Marta said so.

  9. lol Says:

    Did Kyla have any floor upgrades? New beam dismount? Anything worth cheering about?

  10. H Says:

    Simone Biles seems much better/cleaner, and her swing on bars have improved imo.
    Mckyla did not do any tumbling as far as I could see.
    Kyla almost seem afraid/holding back

  11. sanitynmotion Says:

    Wow, no wonder they can’t take any time off if two days makes you lose your skills!

    I can’t watch live podium training or the competition either until later so I will appreciate you guys posting updates on this blog. 🙂

    I just hope Kyla upgrades SOMETHING. Wish I knew the real story on her. She had no time off post Olympics yet McKayla might even pass her up if she doesn’t watch out!

  12. sanitynmotion Says:

    P.S. GTT nice banner 🙂 I feel bad now I don’t know who this Nica person is.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

      Her parents pimp out her and her siblings all over the internet. They are going to inspire a blog about parents and the internet pretty soon. Nica won beam I believe last year at Classics and I don’t think she made the National team but she had potential and I needed another gymnast. (I forgot Lexie existed.lol) I have a new banner for Classics blog tomorrow but I appreciate the thanks. That thing took me 2 plus hours and you wonder why I will never make a gym montage.lol

  13. utgymfan Says:

    So I’m not as educated on gymnastics as most people who post here but I feel like Mykayla Skinner is sticking some pretty advanced skills on floor but no one really talks about her. I know she declared herself the best vaulter in the world, which is laughable. Are her bars and beam just terrible and that’s why no one puts her in to consideration for anything? Sorry to be asking what are probably considered stupid questions but I figured there would be more talk about her.

    • Catherine Says:

      Her Cheng’s were not great. She does not really block properly at all, it’s moreso sheer momentum and she’s not doing the half turn correctly. It was very clear when the camera was so close to the vault. But maybe she’ll be better in the second one and straighten her legs. She DOES have a very exciting beam combo if she can hit it- front handspring- Arabian. That is awesome and I’d love to see it more, anything like that with an arabian in combination si extremely difficult and rare. I’m very interested in that, her vaults and her floor. Her bars, not even a bit, the form on her basics suck.

      I think people didn’t see enough of what she’s good at and too much of what she’s bad at really! Also the rise of Maroney and the fact she has both her old vaults back..people will automatically root for her I think.

      • mimi Says:

        ooh, im looking forward to seeing her beam now!

      • Karlie Says:

        Skinner confirmed in a gymnastike interview that she’ll compete the laid-out double-double. Should be exciting to see. The video also showed her doing a Mitchell spin on beam but her form was pretty so-so. She actually came across as fairly humble and nervous in her interview; seemed like a normal (media-trained) kid to me. Also, I checked her twitter out of curiosity when I was trying to find out whether she was doing the double-double and one of her friends had written something along the lines of “with all the hate you’ve gotten, you deserve all of our support!” which made me feel kind of bad. Clearly she’s aware of the ask.fm, etc. stuff so hopefully she can put it behind her because I’d love to see her hit.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        Triple twist wrote on their tumblr what she did to them which was pretty nasty (they put up their home address and she wouldn’t take it down) but she is just a kid and kids say stupid things they realize later in life. If she is still acting this way at 20 I would be worried.

      • Karlie Says:

        Huh, I didn’t hear about that. What went down there?

      • Karlie Says:

        Never mind, found it. That’s really bizarre; could have just been forgetfulness but sounds malicious. God I am happy to no longer be a teenage girl, I will not miss those days.

        Still excited to see Skinner compete though. Haha 🙂

      • mimi Says:

        have you got the same philosophy on gabby GTT? she’s just a kid too 😛

        (for reference im being 90% facetious, 10% curious) 😉

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        There is a huge difference between going on TV and acting like Gabby and saying a few stupid things on the internet.

        Did you see Gabby throwing a kiss to the crowd and opening her arms as if to say I have arrived after she won the AA? Or saying on National Television what she said about Jordyn not making the AA? (We all have to deal with disappointments?) Mckayla called herself the best vaulter in the world on freaking twitter where she has like 3 followers. Big whip and I also want to point out the ONLY time I really got on Gabby’s case is the Oprah thing and what she said about Jordyn making the AA. I NEVER talk about Gabby and rarely have since the last Olympics. I even gave her credit for not acting the way she does on TV at the American Cup. You people talk about Gabby more than I do.lol

        To answer your question, yes. If Gabby doesn’t turn into Nastia I would give her a break (I really already have) but I get accused of things I haven’t done in a year all the time even if you are trying to be sarcastic about it. Anyone remember the last blog I did on Gabby? or where I talked about her on this blog? exactly so people can STFU:) (yes I am kidding)

    • Sainabou Nyang Says:

      I watched Skinner’s podium training on floor yesterday and her laid out double double looked piked to me.

      Frankly I’d like to see her back up all the hype she’s getting.

  15. exgymgurl Says:

    Its funny how Marta just ignores people. That was true of the juniors too. She was talking to steve Rybacki and she watched one girl on bars and then just didnt care about the rest. Marta doesnt care at all about either of the girls from San Mateo thats obvious, but they only have 16 seniors so they wont be competing every event every rotation. She put those two with McKayla and Kyla. Watching Kyla vault was very interesting. Her coach seems very concerned with every little change, and they are working fundamentals and from every angle jumping off and landing. The girls from San Mateo just ran timers. McKayla did an interesting block into an arabian that didnt have three rotations but almost looked like a prudonova ( I can dream)…..

    • gymtruthteller Says:

      I got bored and stopped watching so I never saw anyone vault.

    • mimi Says:

      i find the marta stuff fascinating! i gave up last night at streaming was on in the middle of the night my time, too tired, no sound made it hard to watch for me.
