While I was sleeping the calling in sick edition

Called in sick to work the other day. Got a lecture from my boss and have decided I need every Thursday for the next two months off for reasons I have yet to think of. Moral of the story? don’t question your part time employee (job 2) when she always shows up and really doesn’t need the job:)

This showed up on my twitter and I thought it was cute so I had to put it on the blog

An old interview with Dina Kochetkova Gotta love how she phrases the Russians losing to the Americans. ” The host Country” this is why I cannot stand the Russians. They refuse to give the US any credit and hate losing to us.

An interview with Lyubov Burda

An interview with Lilia that has English subtitles. I have not had a chance to watch it so let me know what she says.

Here is a nice article about future Auburn University gymnast Mary Jane Rott

A cute video with Aliya Mustafina showing her personality.

In non gym related news don’t ask me about the Trayvon Martin verdict because you won’t like my answer (or my opinion about the race issue) and RIP , Cory Monteith. What a waste of a promising career. I’ll tell you this I am pretty pissed I will never get my happy Finn and Rachel ending thanks to your selfish drug issues. I know drugs are a tough habit to break but you had more opportunities then most people and it saddens me beyond words to see you throw your life away. What a waste.

Wow…I didn’t know Cory passed away. How will this affect Glee? Is he even on the show anymore? I stopped watching Glee after the first season, so I don’t know what is going on with the show anymore.

Btw, I think I get more information from this blog then I do my local news.🙂

    • gymtruthteller Says:

He died last night. He was still on the show but he was a whiny boring stalker of Rachel. He punched some guy dating her and said “don’t something or other my future wife” It was so stupid.lol

I have watched Glee since the start but the last few years I have only tuned in a few times and it was so bad. Even the songs sucked. The show needs to be cancelled

      • mimi Says:

i stopped watching glee around midway season 3 but im still rather sad about the cory monteith news. he seemed pretty normal and down to earth despite his fame. drugs are awful. im not a lea michele fan (pretty ambivalent about her usually) but my heart goes out to her.

    • Uglyfatkid Says:

Thanks for the update. For whatever reason, I stopped watching after the 1st one.

Drugs are scary. I guess it shows that we never know what’s around the corner.

  2. Dee Says:

The Lilia interview is long…but not bad. I fast forwarded through a lot of it. I don’t think I would have recognized her without being told it was her first, she has changed a lot!

  3. Karlie Says:

God dammit…I watched the Aliya video and then somehow spent the next 15 minutes addicted to Vika’s instagram. Instagram annoys the hell out of me (so many selfies whyyyyy) but a lot of the photos, especially the ones with her and Mustafina, Afanasyea and Paseka, are adorable and she looks happier in all of those pictures than I’ve ever seen her in comp (haha).

BTW, in the next video Aliya gets the hat on her head, haha.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

      Good to know:)

    • Karlie Says:

Also Nabs looks a little scary in some of those photos…lolz. I’m glad she was at Universiade because I missed watching her facial expressions.

      • JAS4 Says:

They need to invite Nabs and Mustafina to the pro gym challenge in a few years and see how far Nastia’s attitude gets her with them lol

      • mim Says:

the image of those two battling nastia is too funny and all kinds
        of awesome.

      • Karlie Says:

I’d kill to see Nabs do the Nabieva release skill at the PGC, and watch the Americans’ jaws drop in awe. And also to see Musty and Nabs take on Nastia.

        I can dream…haha

  4. Catherine Says:

Many coaching delegations spent all their time complaining about the crowd noise in Atlanta. And it affected the Russians so I’d say it stuck in their heads a bit. If she was interviewed even a year or so after this interview she probably wouldn’t have come across as bitter in that respect.

    • exgymgurl Says:

The crowd noise is part of why you wont see another summer olympics in the United States again for a long time. Everyone was upset by this in Atlanta. I think this is part of the reason beyond the bomb in Olympic park that so many were dissatisfied with the Atlanta olympics.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I understand it being obnoxious but maybe they should have instilled rules to quiet down. I mean you couldn’t get away with making noise like that for tennis or golf so maybe they need to instill some kind of “culture norm” when it comes to noise in gymnastics.

It would suck to not hear your floor music. I’d be pretty pissed too.

This is why I always stuck with swimming. Noise like that motivates you even more and when your head’s under the water you can drown it out if it bugs you, haha.

      • terrigymfan Says:

I can’t think of two many other sports where you can be performing at something that requires massive concentration (like beam) and suddenly out of nowhere there is a loud scream for someone in another part of the arena. It happens some in golf when a loud cheer erupts from a nearby hole just while a golfer is about to put or something.

When you think about it, other than in 2008 and 1996, it’s been a long time since the Olympics were hosted by a country with a woman’s gymnastic team that had a realistic chance to win the gold. The Chinese are so culturally different than Americans, I don’t think you can compare 2008 to 1996. I bet if the Brits had a team in London that had a realistic chance in winning gold, the place would have been going bananas.

      • Tortuga Says:

Weren’t the Brits going nuts when they thought the Mens team had won Silver? I don’t fully remember but I think it was a big up roar. Then they ended up getting bumped to Bronze. Which I know they were just happy to medal but still. That who situation was awful. Did you guys see the Hillary Clinton gif. “That is not a handstand?”

      • Sara Says:

Yeah I remember when Beth Tweddle was on bars during the finals the Brits when craaaaazy. Even when you watch videos of Bejing when one of the Chinese finished the crowd was intensely loud, but I think the arena was built to withstand the noise better. Hopefully if the US were to get chosen again to host the Olympics they would plan it out better.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

It was not as loud as the whiny Russians made it out to be and everyone was cheered just not as loudly. I can’t wait til the Olympics in Russia next year so the whiny Russians will pull the same thing and will then have to STFU

      • gymtruthteller Says:

That is another issue. There were 36 thousand people in Atlanta. That is much bigger then the usual competitions.

      • Birgitte Says:

Athletics! Deep concentration, and suddenly someone else does something and theres random cheering.

    • Katie Says:

I remember roza being pissed about not being able to hear her floor music two separate times. I think finals and AA. And then milo had to have her music restarted because she couldn’t even hear that it had started. It was pretty obnoxious. The Russians will never get over it.

      • Catherine Says:

Yeah Dawes was on beam while Milo was on floor. Roza was up against Miller on beam in the AA and Strug’s TF vault.

However the Russian team was not crazy strong. It seems like they were not fully cohesive after the Soviet breakup. Three on the team were strong, and Dolgopolova was a great bar worker but that was about it. The Romanians lost about 4 girls to injury. So regardless of crowd noise this victory would have gone to the US anyway. I doubt they are still bitter but I’d say not exactly eager for the US to host again.

  5. sanitynmotion Says:

I think I share the same opinion as you do GTT about the whole Trayvon Martin issue.

What irritates me beyond no end is that if this were a case of a black man shooting a white man or a black man shooting a black man this whole entire thing would be a non-issue and nobody would have heard about it. There was a comment on an article I was reading about a white female waitress in another area being shot and killed by three black men and not a peep on that.

Plus you have this whole “white Mexican” thing where the media try as they might want to proclaim Zimmerman as being white. Are you kidding me. If anyone called Obama a “white black man” or a “white negro” you’d be scorned and called a racist, yet Obama is just as white as Zimmerman is white. I’m calling a spade a spade there.

    • Case Says:

      • mim Says:

not knowing much about the case i can’t comment but the biggest western media conglomerates are deeply conservative, not liberal. or liberal in the true sense
        of the word…

celebrities just seem to lean left and more people are exposed to their opinions.

    • Karlie Says:

Regardless of the actual issue of racial profiling itself – which I’m not going to touch because I don’t feel like getting into it here – the way Florida law is written makes it almost impossible for Zimmerman to have been found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The prosecution had an uphill battle to begin with but they didn’t help their case when they charged him with second-degree murder, with manslaughter as an afterthought. I do believe that if they had focused on the manslaughter charge – specifically, second-degree manslaughter – rather than the murder charge, they may have been able to build a better case for themselves.

I’m not thrilled that he got off scot-free given the circumstances, but given both the evidence and the very specific wording of FL law there is almost no way he could have been found guilty of second-degree murder. Legal scholars have been predicting this outcome for weeks.

That’s all I’m going to say on the issue – I’m not going to touch the racial aspect at all, but it’s been bugging me because those jurors had no choice but to acquit him of the charges, given the evidence and letter of the law, and now they’re potentially facing threats, etc.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

To be honest I was wondering why manslaughter – even involuntary manslaughter – wasn’t the main focus on pinning Zimmerman with a charge. I agree with you on that point.

But Florida has itself to blame (or its voters) as to why those laws were written that way. I’m sure there have been many other shootings or cases such as this with a similar outcome, only the reason this particular case got so much hype was because of the race issue that the media made certain to blast in our faces.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

READ AT YOUR OWN RISK. This is my opinion and if you don’t like it you don’t have to read it.
The judge originally said only a 1st degree murder could be the verdict then when the case was looking like it would be not guilty she added manslaughter so she could get a conviction.

Since you got me started on this ( I warned you:) here it goes. If Zimmerman was black case never would have been brought to trial. This was race related from the start. The second the media and celebrities got ahold of what happened Zimmerman was nailed to the wall.

Anyone that watched the trial or followed the case knows that the only verdict that could have happened was not guilty.

Zimmerman had every right to walk his neighborhood with a gun in his pocket because the law said he did. Zimmerman did not chase down Martin and shoot him. He had the gun and when he was attacked he used it to defend himself.

Martin was not this little innocent baby the media portrayed him as. He was a racist trouble maker. He had been in trouble in the past for beating someone up and after he did it he told the other person that they weren’t bloody enough so he was going to beat him up again and make sure there was more blood. He was also a racist who called Zimmerman a cracker. He had also been kicked out of his house because his father could not control him.

This whole Country has gone to hell in a bucket. The department of justice was told to start a race riot. Our own Government wanted to hire Al Sharpton and bring him to places to start a race war. Black people seem to be okay with this. How can any American be okay with our own Government starting a race war?

Lets bring up the media and how they edited the tape of the 911 call to make it seem like Zimmerman said he was chasing a black kid? Or how about the prosecution hiding evidence and then firing the guy that brought it to light? or the Police Chief who said there wasn’t enough evidence to have a trial who also lost his job for FOLLOWING THE LAW. They hired a black guy in his place.

Zimmerman is half white and half Hispanic but that didn’t stop the media from calling him a white – Hispanic to try and start a race war and do you want to hear my opinion on our racist President? Instead of calling out his own Government for trying to start a race riot he came out in support of a thug. I don’t care what anyone says Obama is in charge of the department of justice and he is the reason they went after Zimmerman.

They are even trying to sue Zimmerman under the federal law even though there is no way this case merits it by the law itself. The same with a civil suit. If they sue him then the lawyers can bring up all of Martins troubled past proving that he was a thug looking for trouble.

I could probably write about this forever but I will stop now.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I share the same beliefs about our President and this race war.

Did not know about Martin’s past, but I hadn’t looked into it but I knew about the media hiding and distorting evidence.

Fact is if Zimmerman were black or just non-white (at all) this case would have been a non-issue. I read somewhere that 93% of all black murders were committed by black people:

Our Country really is going to hell in high water.

And I just love how the celebrities are claiming on Twitter they are now “embarrassed” to be an American, while not even thinking that if it weren’t for America’s freedoms, they would not be where they are today and rolling in the dough. Please Rihanna and Toni Braxton feel free to leave and become a resident of Iraq or Afghanistan. Or wherever. Sigh.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Rhianna needs to get out of this Country. She doesn’t belong here.

Celebrities just want attention so they tweet about shit they know nothing about.

Why aren’t people pissed what the department of Justice attempted to do? How the hell is this not an issue?

The only thing Whoopee Goldberg could come up with his how Martin was followed. He was followed because he had a hoodie on his head and was somewhere he didn’t belong. The gated community had robberies going on and these people were sick of being robbed. WTF were they supposed to do when they see a suspicious person with a back back walking around a gated neighborhood?

      • sanitynmotion Says:

HUGE issue especially since our taxpayer dollars are being spent in this manner.

Why is nobody calling anyone out or screaming about it?

The media. They are putting a lid on reporting it for the most part. If our President were a Republican we’d be hearing about this night and day and it would be a monstrosity (which it is) but because the media is owned by liberals, we hear nothing even near negative about this administration.

In many ways we are living in a society like that book 1984.

  6. lol Says:

Roza was happy and laughing after her floor routine until she got the score then she started crying.

  7. terrigymfan Says:

Okay, this is just too funny:

    • sanitynmotion Says:

It’s funny but it’s not, just given the circumstances.

Honestly SFO is one of the least (if not “the” least) safest airports to fly into. You have the Bay first of all, and then the fog. And then you have the fact that the landing strips are parallel to each other, which is very dangerous. Not sure why Asiana Airlines would choose such a landing scenario for a trainee. That was stupid on their part.

      • terrigymfan Says:

I noticed that Asiana Airlines says it is going to sue the TV station over this for “damaged reputation.” That is ridiculous. The airline is just trying to deflect attention from it’s own negligence.

      • Gymnerd Says:

Agree with both of your posts, Terri.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Yep, exactly – they were the negligent ones! (The airline).

  8. byrdisthewyrd Says:

I didn’t see Ebee on the list to compete at Classics. Did she re-injure herself or is she still recovering from the injury a while ago? Is there anybody else left off the list that surprises anyone? http://usagym.org/pages/events/classic/participants.html

    • exgymgurl Says:

I think EBee is done with elite and preparing for college. Poof got torpedoed by MLT, Ohashi Vega and Finnegan must still be recovering. Lizzy LeDuc is not on the list,

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Bummer about Price…still wish Jordyn would “surprise” but I guess you can’t really do that here.

Any updates on that whole Geddert thing?

      • Tortuga Says:

I thought Lizzy went down to level 10. Could be wrong I just thought I read that somewhere. Yeah, looks like Jordyn really is out. McKayla must be in routine shape now, yay! Hope she has a good showing.

      • Catherine Says:

LeDuc has been level 10 for a while. Price is a surprise but she can still show at Nationals. Vega, Finnegan, Ohashi and Wieber are not a surprise.

      • Uglyfatkid Says:

I really hope Price hasn’t moved on completely to NCAA. She wasn’t my favorite, but I did like her. I was hoping to see what she could do at worlds.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I can’t see her giving up elite now after she finally made a name for herself but exgymgurl has this annoying habit of being right about stuff like this so we will see.

      • mim Says:

in the triple twist interview with sarah finnegan, i got the feeling she might be done with elite. she said she had elbow surgery and said she’s got a feeling that it won’t be the same as before. no
mention of when/if she will return to training or what her plans are other than where she wants to go to college (Missouri or UCLA). the less that’s said for longer makes me feel like she’s had serious or irreparable injuries for elite gymnastics. i think it would be a crying shame, bet she didn’t reach her full potential.

    • biyatch Says:

Ebee said in May that her goal was to make the worlds team. That would be a pretty dramatic shift in a couple of months from worlds aspirations to solely NCAA. Even if shes not back in the AA, with her two vaults alone she would have a shot at the worlds team. The being done with elite rumors seem fishy to me.

      • exgymgurl Says:

They are told what to say in those videos. EBee is one of the most articulate minority USAGYM athletes. I dont think its fishy at all. Her chances for 2016 are slim. I wouldnt be surprised to see Kyla go the same route next year. Without an Amanar Kyla has no shot at AA and is at best a bars beam specialist with great international lines. EBee may not be recovering from this surgery as well as anticipated. In that case she’s much better off just going to college and getting a free Stanford education.

      • exgymgurl Says:

And how is there room for her two vaults with McKayla and Biles? Maroney will get a spot because FIG wants her to. Shes a beautiful vaulter. EBee is exceptional but not as good as Maroney, and not as young as Biles. Marta looks at all these things. And its not like the Strauss’s wont already be there with their 3-5 juniors. Kimbo having 7 gymnasts between Jr and Sr is what really surprised me. I expect WOGA to have that many but not Texas Dreams.

      • Tortuga Says:

Texas Dreams is finally making out with a lot of Elites now. I went to their first summer camp back in like 2001ish. It’s a great facility and I’m glad to see them doing so well now. Kim and her husband are very respectable coaches. They don’t take the screaming/shaming approach to coaching and I admire that. I wonder if WOGA has some potential elites in the wings. They’re probably just sandbagging optional gymnasts to win more titles. That really annoys me. Just let a gymnast compete at her potential level and not keep them down just for more medals, but to each their own.

    • sj0126 (@sj0126) Says:

I think Ebee will prolly go to nationals and at least give Worlds a shot. You never know what can happen between now and October injury wise if she is able to stay healthy. I could see her going for this year as opposed to next year and years after when more and more girls become seniors.

I don’t think Kyla will go to NCAA until after the Olympics. She’s just incredibly motivated and driven to do more. The fact that she is such a good bars worker makes her a huge asset to the US too.

  9. exgymgurl Says:

Annoying habit? Its logical…. especially after this injury…. think Ivana Hong post 2008 she said she wanted to hang on until 2012 but a year later was in surgery and going to Stanford because the surgery limited her elite gymnastics. I see Sarah Finnegan, Vega, and Price all in that same boat as Ivana Hong, Corrie Lothrop, and Jana Bieger. Anna Li has already been to college. But I bet she has a great career as a stunt woman should she choose to accept it. Once Marta has made you an alternate she really doesnt want you around anymore. Chellsie Memmel is the one exception to that after 2004, but she just didnt really care that Marta didnt want her around in 2008. ASac and Bhardwaj were never alternates… being an olympic alternate is like peaking your gymnastics at the right time and still not being good enough to make the team. Making a repeat team since Marta has been around and in charge since 2004 officially has not happened either. No one has competed multiple olympics since 2000 when Dawes did it. Marta doesnt want repeat athletes. She didnt want Moceanu in 2000 or 2004, she didnt want Kupets to come back for the 08 team, she wants you to peak for one olympic cycle and thats it. End of story. Nastia made a huge fool out of herself and a mockery of gymnastics with her “comeback unable to do a pak” or whatever made her fall on her face and eat mat. But I bet Kylas chalk dust tasted really good. Once Martas passed on you shes passed on you.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

      Interesting post.

This is good news for Bross (hah), and bad news for the Fierce Five.

But Marta never really “passed” on Nastia right? She rather encouraged her comeback and a reason why she face planted it (thank Gawd) was because she started her comeback too late and her ego could not compensate for her athleticism.

Should be interesting to see what happens to the Fierce Five since they are all planning comebacks – what would make it more interesting is if nobody on the FF is injured, and that would make it harder for Marta to pass on them.

      • exgymgurl Says:

I know GTT said Bross looks very out of shape, but I saw some recent twitter photos and she doesnt look that out of shape to me. Shes running a lot apparently. I think she could have a great career in crossfit like Jana Bieger. Mentally I dont think she has the toughness or the desire for elite gymnastics. I dont think her heart was in it at trials. She self sabotaged just like Atler did. Just saying. I *doubt* ebee would just show up for Nationals. Its politically incorrect and the Parkettes always play Martas game just like WOGA does. Which is why I doubt Katelyn just shows up for nationals also. I think both are out for the season. If EBee was even able to throw up a beam routine shed be at Classics doing one. Same with Ohashi, even watered down.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

The last picture I saw of her she was chunky.

  10. exgymgurl Says:

Besides you get another serious elite injury and completely blow your chances at a college scholarship? Thats just plain BAD decision making like Bross’s parents. I never would have had her go pro before 2011 worlds, and I never would have had her going for the olympics after that injury. I would have had her mended enough for NCAA to limp through 4 years or get a free education and a medical retirement. Bross’s parents are not logical.

  11. nero Says:

Jordyn says she’s still in the gym training. She doesn’t mention anything about competing though. Anyone know what’s going on with Geddert and that whole thing?

  12. terrigymfan Says:

McKayla said in a Keek Sunday night that she wants to gi college and also act but only after Rio. I think she is really serious about this quad. Sure would like to see a TTY from her.

    • mim Says:

agreed, mckayla sounded super serious about rio being her number 1 priority. it seems falling on her ass in london is really pushing her mentally.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

In that case that’s the only reason I’m happy she fell on her arse. So we can see her perform more. Honestly of the FF she has the most potential that we haven’t seen yet.
