Happy Canada Day

We all know how much I hate almost everything about Canada (Montreal Canadians, Vancouver Cannuck Canadians, Toronto Blue Jay Canadians, Justin ” Go back to Canada” Bieber, the way they screwed Kristina Vaculik of an Olympic spot in 2008 etc…) but there are some things I like from Canada and to celebrate Canada day I give you………………

Lori Strong. Loved her bars

Patrice Bergeron, The boy played in the Stanley Cup finals with a hole in his lungs, broken ribs, torn cartilage and a separated shoulder. He’s the man (except when playing for team Canada)

Talia Chiarelli, people think Aly is Alicia’s mini me. I call BS. Talia is Alicia’s mini me plus her dad brought me a cup(though right now I don’t like you Peter Chiarelli you scum sucking leach:)

I searched but that is all I could find. Hmmmmmm.

No love for Tori Moors? Peng Peng? Elizabeth Black trying to pull a Strug in London?

Robin Williams had a quote that cracked me up. He said, “Canada is like a loft apartment over a really great party.” Lol.

I’ll be honest. I love Canada. Not as much as the USA, but I love it nonetheless. But I also live a couple hours from the border and have been there many times. Such a hospitable place.

  2. sanitynmotion Says:

OMG Talia’s dance moves even mimic ASac’s. Does she have as good of a vault?

Canada. Land of “free” health care where it’s so bad their citizens fly to the USA to get treated. Guess that’s gonna end soon, thanks to Obama.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Obama will let them stay and give them free care anyway.

Talia had a DTY at one point, not anymore

    • DL Says:

Only very rich Canadian fly to the US to get treated–to avoid surgery wait times or to pay to have access to the very best in treatment. I’ve lived in several countries, including Canada and the US, and the US health care system is the most expensive one I’ve encountered. I used to worry whenever I had to go see a specialist and pay for co-pays and stuff.

Healthcare in Canada has never been free–there are monthly fees based on income. But if you pay $54 a month, you never have to pay for things like giving birth, having life saving cancer treatments or going to the emergency room that’s closest to where you are injured or want to be treated. And there are no co-pays–money never, ever changes hands at the doctor’s office.

The choice of doctors in the US is amazing, but only for those who have access through insurance or personal wealth.

Yes, I grew up in a socialist country, haha.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

That’s interesting since the general sentiment is that it’s “free” in Canada.

Yeah, US health care is a joke. We have issues with lobbyists in Washington to keep costs up; we have issues period. Obamacare is not the solution, but I guess we’ll have to wait for the stupid voters to find out. To be honest I’m not going to feel sorry for them when they realize it’s not “free” healthcare either, and if anything costs are going to go up even more. You get what you vote for.

      • DL Says:

What exactly does Obamacare entail? It sounds like an attempt at universal health care, except that the system with private insurance companies is still in place, which means this doesn’t lighten the load for those of you who have insurance from your workplace and get taxed heavily. Where does the subsidy money come from for low income families? (I guess your tax dollars.)

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Hah, that’s the million dollar question. Nobody really knows what Obamacare “does” entail really because the bill itself is thousands of pages long. Even the Speaker of the House (at the time, Nancy Pelosi) said “we need to pass the bill before we see what’s in it” – yes, these are the types of blokes that run our Country. God help us all.

From what I understand, Obamacare “forces” everyone to have insurance, by either buying through “exchanges” to be set up by each State, or by purchasing it via private insurance companies (which are SUPER expensive, as everyone knows). What people are finding now (and what the Democrats are trying to hide from everyone) is that the exchanges aren’t going to be much cheaper than private insurance (someone has to foot the bill for all this nonsense, no?) So basically if you don’t buy insurance, you will get penalized by the government and have to pay extra; that penalty escalates as the years go by.

So all of the young/healthy people who were at one point opting out of purchasing insurance (why spend $400 – $500 a month if you don’t have to, and yes that’s how expensive it is) are now being forced to buy it, and if they don’t buy it, they get taxed. Also, all of the smaller-sized businesses are now starting to reduce employee hours and hiring fewer full-time people because if a company is over 50 full-time employees, then they fall under the Obamacare provision, and basically if they do not provide insurance for their employees they must pay a fee/penalty as well. So this is actually hurting our jobs market, while at the same time other businesses (the larger ones) are actually going to be figuring out that paying that penalty is MUCH cheaper than paying for their employees’ insurance premiums, so you’ll start to see a lot of companies eliminating their insurance coverage altogether and a lot of people who were formerly covered by their employers are now no longer going to be covered, and will have to purchase into the exchange systems as well.

There’s still a lot of unanswered questions, and overall it’s a scary notion to think that our health care will be ran likely the same way the DMV is ran in the States. Can you think of anything that is run by the government that is efficient and effective? I certainly can’t. And I really wish they would butt out of messing with my health care. I just pray that I don’t come down with a bad disease or cancer or something, or else I’m screwed.

What the real problem is in our country is that healthcare is so darned expensive. Our government allows the lobbyists to come in and drive up prices and the billion dollar pharmaceutical companies have our politicians by the balls, literally (“we’ll donate millions to your campaign as long as you back this provision/bill/whatever that keeps such-and-such law in place…”) – plus we are a total “sue” society, so lawsuits drive up the costs as well. It’s really sad that as a country we spend more than any other on healthcare yet have not much to show for it. But I digress.

I just won’t feel sorry for anyone who voted for Obama who finds themselves BK or whatever because of this provision. You voted for this crap. Just wait.

Yeah I sound like a total a-hole right-wing conservative, but I’m not believe it or not. I am not a fan of the Republicans either or GOP or whatever they’re called. I’m just not a fan of all politicians because they all lie cheat and steal and the public buys it because they’d rather hear what stupid Kardashian is naming her baby over how their lives are going to be effected by the a-holes in charge of our government.

      • byrdisthewyrd Says:

On a good note, my husband who has diabetes cannot be turned down from an insurance company for having a pre-existing condition which is a HUGE deal. After getting denied from so many insurance companies before Obamacare, now he can finally have insurance and get the treatment he needs. Also my friend’s son had cancer as a baby and was able to overcome it but their insurance dropped them and for years they weren’t able to insure him. Now, the insurance companies cannot turn him down for his previous cancer and he is able to find coverage again. I’m not saying I’m completely for it, but I am definitely grateful that my husband and my friend’s son can finally get medical attention when they need it! And for the many others that had been repeatedly denied coverage in the past as well.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I had the same issue with my back problems for pre-existing conditions – so I definitely understand that. I understand the need to make a profit, but no insurance company should disallow anyone to have coverage because of a pre-existing condition, especially when it’s pretty severe like diabetes or cancer. I totally understand the system in the US is super flawed – but Obamacare really wasn’t the answer. I am glad for that provision though because it’s just plain stupid and immoral.

      • Case Says:

My issue with Obamacare is that Obama lied when he said those of us that were happy with our existing health care (through our employers) could keep it. He said that….but then he f’d up by only making the penalty $2k per employee for corporations over 50 employees that don’t offer private insurance. It is insanely cheaper for large corporations to pay the penalties than kick in to insure us all. The unions are realizing this too and are really starting to cause a ruckus about it.

I’m banking on the fact that this is America and even if we all get thrown into the Health Exchanges some private insurer will see an opportunity to offer supplemental “buy up” coverage. That and thankfully I have two friends that are doctors so I’ll be able to get care.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Lucky you have friends, but the “new” America won’t allow privatization once the government takes control. Even if a company spotted an opportunity, the government would respond by passing all sorts of regulations that would put that business under even before it started. The government’s already done this with many other industries, so…yeah.

And Obama lies all the time, so anything he says I basically figure the opposite is true.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        Obama does nothing but lie

      • DL Says:

It’s really too bad you’re not getting a better system. Government runs health insurance where I live, and it’s very smooth because the doctor bills the government and the government pays up.

That being said, Canadian DMV is a painless experience. (Takes five minutes to renew an ID, and the branch by my parents’ place is at a mall.)

Once I went to the DMV in New York the day after getting violently mugged and waited in line for three hours before being told I didn’t have all the documents needed to process a new ID despite the fact a DMV worker checked my documents before I got in line. I can see how you wouldn’t want offices that inefficient in charge of your health.

So frustrating. WTF are they spending your tax dollars on? Ugh, politicians.

what about maple syrup? and robin sparkles? 90s episodes of degrassi junior high?

australians love canada but im yet to venture over to that part of the world to see what all the fuss is about.

what happened to kristina vaculik in 2008?

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Caitlin and Joey. I loved them:)

      • exgymgurl Says:

All the way with Stephanie K ….. and Caitlin Ryan and Clood….. Who doesnt love Snake and Wheels….. and the Zit Remedy “Everybody Wants Something”

Who could forget the Anorexia, the birth of Emma, the leukemia, the burning down of the school. God this show was awesome on so many levels. I think its canadas best export….. next to Degrassi the Next Generation, this show appears dated and unreal… BUT…. At the time, I remember thinking how real it was and how there was nothing else on TV that seemed that relatable.

      • Tortuga Says:

I love Degrassi. I never saw the first generation episodes tho. Wish I could have. Don’t hate me for liking the new generation up until probably the season of the school shooting. I can only think of Drake as Jimmy lol, I think he is actually from Houston. Oh and I love Nardwuar the Human Serviette! He’s awesome. Strangely enough my office smells heavily of maple syrup this morning lol.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I still call Drake Jimmy and Cassie Steele is always going to be Manny to me.

I gave up on Degrassi when Manny, Emma, Liberty and TJ graduated. These new kids suck at acting

      • exgymgurl Says:

All the degrassi jr high / degrassi high old school episodes are on the PBS youtube channel for your viewing enjoyment So you can actually watch them. I cant believe Jimmy actually thinks hes a bad ass rapper drake. Its just weird. I didnt watch new class beyond Emma and Liberty going to college, and the Kevin Smith special, but anyway. Enough Degrassi. Going to the park. Its not 90 already in TX. Reason enough to want to be outside.

      • Tortuga Says:

Awesome! I have that Kevin Smith special on DVD, I was disappointed, oh well. I’m enjoying this cold front. Should be great for the 4th of July. And I’m hoping to get moved to my new place on Friday, I think it should stay pretty cool (for Texas) till then. Small chance of rain for now.

      • Dee Says:

ahahah I thought I was the only one that thinks of Drake as Jimmy…good to know I’m not alone!

      • Tortuga Says:

Hahaha, sometimes I even think “Silly Jimmy, you can’t walk! Where is your wheelchair?” LOL!

    • gymtruthteller Says:

She should have been on the Olympic team but they created a point system against her better events to make sure she didn’t make it but the rumor was there was a big time fix going on because French Canadians were in charge and they wanted certain gymnasts on the team.

      • biyatch Says:

wasnt politics the reason that talia was left off the 2011 worlds team. something about them not wanting two gymnasts from the same region (despite the fact that shes was one of the few with a DTY) and also the Canadian gymnastics federation didnt like that she was training in the US. She was definitely screwed out of a floor medal at canadian nationals this year.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

She was named to the team and then dropped because she was having issues with her DTY in training. Or that was the rumor at the time.

Now there were also rumors about people in charge being against her because she came from the US even though she didn’t. She moved here when the Bruins hired her idiotic blowhard father

      • mimi Says:

ah ok, thanks for info. shame about kristina, she’s a pretty gymnast to watch. it’s awful how these stories of blatant favouritism and changing the system never end.

why is every second team in the US called the ‘bruins’? what is a bruin anyway? for awhile i thought everyone was super into UCLA until i realised there are a few teams with that name, haha.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        I think a Bruin is a bear

        It is

      • exgymgurl Says:

Isnt that the same idiotic blowhard that got our Bruins the Stanley Cup? I mean yeah they lost this year….. and yes the Bruins are bears… like the UCLA Bruins…. and the Cal Berkley Bears…… LOL

And only two teams as far as I know are the Bruins….

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Ever heard of Pat Riley? He won the Heat 3 titles but he is still an idiot and still a blow hard and Peter is just as bad. Now he is calling out Tyler Sequin for stuff he hasn’t even done. Sorry I am done with the way things are done in Boston. When the teams that play in that building want to get rid of you they lie about you to the media so they can use it as an excuse and that is why I stopped being a Celtic fan. I won’t follow the Bruins if they keep this shit up either and Peter is as bad as Danny Ainge

      • mimi Says:

ah, a bear! sorry im too lazy to google today🙂

    • DL Says:

I just saw a recent episode of Degrassi and a group of the kids were in Vegas partying…so different from the 80s and 90s versions of the show, where most of the kids came from families who were struggling to pay the bills.

      • exgymgurl Says:

Its interesting after season1 of Jr High Aaron Spelling tried to buy the show and they said no we want to keep it in Canada and real and less glam, and then he made 90210, (original) instead and tackled similar issues but with glam…… and now the new degrassi is just as crazy as 90210 was…./ is

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Degrassi now a days in unwatchable. Maybe I am just to old to give a shit about the stupid issues they go through but I watched the original and second generation and cannot stomach the current show. I probably stopped casually looking in a few years ago.

Degrassi is much like Glee. Used to be a cute show about people and now it everyone is gay or thinking about being gay or is gay for a few days and then changes their minds.

I think I finally put grew it:)

      • DL Says:

Oh, I had no idea Spelling tried to buy the show. I can’t imagine it working outside of Canada–it takes a certain dose of bad acting, middle class rappers and hockey to make Degrassi work.

I had to stop watching Glee too. I liked it the first season even though I usually hate musicals. Then everyone started getting on my nerves.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Same with me. The characters on Degrassi started annoying me so I stopped watching.

  4. Uglyfatkid Says:

Lori’s full twist maneuver after her first release skill was crazy cool! I wonder why we never see that skill anymore?

I just looked to see what channel Classics is on and the USA Gymnastics site said that it is not going to be broadcast on TV anywhere (not even cable). It’s only going to be a live feed (which I am at least grateful we have that). WTH? I remember Classics being broadcast the last few years? Am I crazy?

    • Catherine Says:

Well, because it’s incredibly difficult really. Much like we are unlikely to see many Delladio’s but at least the amount of Bhardwaj’s has increased. Ezster Ovary did the Strong also but that is it.

GTT, no Stella Umeh? Elyse Hopfner-Hibbs? Kate Richardson? Yvonne Toussek? Michelle Conway?

      • Uglyfatkid Says:

You are like an gymnastics encyclopedia Cathrine! Thanks for always sharing your knowledge with me.🙂
I would LOVE to see more Strongs performed!

      • Catherine Says:

Haha oh and I said this below but the bars are further apart now and bails have to catch in handstand..and this is technically a bail. We might see a 1.5 oak? But that is harder since there’s a flip in that instead of pure horizontal twisting.

    • Tortuga Says:

Really, Classics won’t be broadcast on tv? Do we not have a big sponsor? Gymnastics is one of the most anticipated sports of the summer games, the US dominates the team competition and we can’t even afford to air the competitions the following year? Ugh. I’m seriously annoyed. I don’t know if I have the patience for a live feed constantly pausing to buffer. I guess I should stop complaining. First world problems.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I’ll probably wait until You Tube has videos. That sucks though. I’m sure it has something to do with “other” more high-money-making sports taking the slots, like golf (snore) or a pre-season football game or something like that.

      • sj0126 (@sj0126) Says:

USA Gym is doing a live feed I think. I wouldn’t be surprised if its on youtube that night

  5. JAS4 Says:

    Talia’s tweets are hilarious

    • Tortuga Says:

Tori’s tweets are also hilarious. That girl never stops thinking about food.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I stopped following her a month of two ago. She is way too involved in herself.

Over tweeting about nothing annoys me even though I am guilty of doing that myself a lot.

      • Tortuga Says:

I don’t check it often enough to be annoyed. I don’t really tweet much I just follow other people and check it when I remember I want to see what they’re up to.
As far as social media goes I’m not very up to date. I just use facebook and have a twitter. I look at Tumblr but don’t do anything with it. And I have an Instagram but don’t use it either. I don’t know if I could ever get into Vine, that just seems more of a teenage self involved thing.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I’m the same way. I still don’t even know what Tumblr is really. There’s so much – it’s all very distracting.

  6. macstabby Says:

That high to low transition in Lori’s bars was bananas. Any idea what it’s called?

    • sanitynmotion Says:

I think it should be called bananas…hahaha.

    • Catherine Says:

Also known as a 1.5 bail. Bails must finish in handstand and the bars are further apart now..but it hasn’t been done since, so dunno if it would get deducted if it finished short of handstand.

Check out Ezster Ovary, hers was cleaner. A pity we don’t have joint skill names if they had competed it at the same comp. The Strong-Ovary!

  7. Catherine Says:

Biles Cheng looks AMAZING. It’s just into the foam pit (the TTY was onto a mat on top of the pit) but looks really stretched, powerful and upright landing. It’s an upgrade they want for this year.
