Chellsie Memmel- Homage to a champion

I suggest everyone stop watching after 2008 Olympic Trials. The rest just pisses you off and brings up feelings of rage and dreams of offing Marta and burying her in Virginia with the terrorist:)

FOR THE RECORD, I am just kidding about offing Marta.I have no plans to push her in front of a mack truck or pushing her head first off a balance beam.

GTT you know I’m going to do what you say “not” to do and watch the whole damn thing. 🙂

Seriously – I can’t believe Marta had the nerve considering what Chellsie is capable of. She took advantage of Memmel’s “one” off day. I wish Chellsie would have done bars or even floor over beam at Classics. I would have LOVED to have seen her go on to beat Nastia on bars at nationals/Trials.

If the code in 2004-2008 were the same as it was in 2008-2012 – Chellsie would have REALLY given Nastia a run for her money in making the AA. It could have been another Jordyn type situation. I’m sure Marta was actually a bit relieved Chellsie was injured at the Olympics because otherwise I’m sure she would have done what she could to prevent Chellsie from making AA over Nastia.

WHY was Chellsie left off of the 2004 team? She was injured, right? Or did she get screwed by Marta? I can’t really tell and I don’t remember.

This montage really also showed me how gawd awful ugly the stuck landing on floor is. I hate that part of the code. Bring back the step-out, it looked so much more smooth/pretty.

2004, Chellsie was screwed and hurt. She was only competing bars and beam and they really needed her for floor.

Watch the whole thing at your own risk:)

      • sanitynmotion Says:

        I already did. 🙂

You’d think they would get more out of Memmel being there than Mohini. I still don’t know why Terin Humphrey didn’t do floor…Memmel could have done bars over Patterson and beam over Mohini.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Terin never scored well on floor. She should have but didn’t

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Oh. I thought I saw on the 2003 World championships that they brought her “for her floor.”

She had to have better scoring potential over Mohini, no?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

If I remember correctly in 03 Terin only scored a 9.187 or somethi9ng low like that. Judges did not like her.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Hindsight is twenty twenty. Marta thought the twp DTY’s would be the difference. Marta is an idiot and Mohini being on that team was a travesty

      • Katie Says:

Morgan White should have never been on that team. Remember that trial fluff where she was jumping around like a boxer? Atler should have been on there for floor and vault. Dawes should have been off and miller on.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Miller would have been on that team if she was healthy. She was doing that well at camps and Bela was desperate to put his stamp on Miller so he could claim part of her success but Marta is the bitch that still holds grudges and she never wanted Miller on that team . Miller had a 9.8 start value on beam thanks to stupid Nunno and so did Dawes and Miller is a lot cleaner than Dawes but Miller was hurt at Trials and should not have been on the team. If Nunno had let her compete at Nationals she could have proven herself but he wouldn’t let her compete and he wouldn’t fix her routines. I wish Miller would have made her comeback anywhere but Nunno’s because I think she would have had a better shot. Nunno let his ego get in the way

I do like terin, I thought she was the #3 of the 2004 team after Patterson and kupets, but how in the world was she chosen as the athlete representative????

What us it about Chelsie that Marta didnt like? I could never understand that. I get that Marta has her favorites and those she doesn’t like because if their coaches (anna li) or because they are headcases or screwed up big time In a competition (Mattie larson). But Chelsie was different. She is a coaches dream! Steely nerves, confident, fearless, and has great sportsmanship.

Screw a asac tell all, I want one from Chelsie. In fact she needs to gather all of Martas victims and together they all make a tell all with a chapter dedicated to each victim.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Chellsie sold out to USAG. She wants to be a judge, and her dad’s business is gymnastics so I guess I understand, but still.

Marta didn’t like Chellsie I guess because she took the thunder away from Nastia’s introduction to the senior stage. She beat Nastia at Worlds in 2005 and it kind of doused that whole notion that Nastia would have been on the Olympic team had she been age eligible. Chellsie also didn’t play it Marta’s way and attend all of the destruction camps.

    • Biyatch Says:

i dont think the memmel’s ever really bought into the camps either and there have been a few articles of andy memmel speaking out over the camps and the karolyis in general.

      • Katie Says:

I agree. I don’t think it was about Chellsie beating nastia. After all, Sloan beat bross (Marta’s pet of the moment) and look where bross ended up. I think it was bc team memmel was so defiante of Marta and she couldnt handle it.
What I don’t get is why they throw world champs under the bus right before the Olympics after everything they went through with Kim

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I don’t feel it had much to do with Chellsie not going to camps. IMO it had more to do with Marta being scared Chellsie would show up and prove herself like she has done every time anyone has counted her out. She could not take the chance that Chellsie would show up kicking butt and taking names not when she was going to take her real pet, Nastia if she hit one bar routine

Theres training video for the pro challenge up on IG…..

    • gymtruthteller Says:

There won’t be any coverage of that meet here. Just thought you should know. It l;ooks lame and these people promoting it are messing up my twitter feed with their stupidity. Don’t annoy

  4. Case Says:

2004 makes me mad. Hollie Vise should have been on that team 100x over Mohini.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

She didn’t do herself any favors falling at camp but they were never naming her to that team regardless of how she did. I know her family felt used because they told her to train for a spot that never existed. They used her picture to advertise all their meets too

      • Katie Says:

How did you know that? I’m. I’m not trying to be weird, but do you know why hatch got chosen over vise? I never got that decision

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Mrs Vise is very open and if you ask her she will tell you how she feels.

      • Tortuga Says:

I know we’ve talked about the Vise situation before, but I loved her gymnastics. I wanted her on that team soo bad. I wasn’t as knowledgeable about gymnastics then so I didn’t understand. But her back injury did her in. She wasn’t able to perform her full difficulty and ended up falling at camp. It’s a shame timing took her out of the game.

  5. Catherine Says:

I like Mohini. Yeah she had issues and yes her inclusion was controversial, but she stepped up and hit amidst the injuries/slight breakdowns. And coming back FROM NCAA too, I love that. And her bars transition, swoon..

    *Waves Mohini flag*

    • gymtruthteller Says:

She hit her easy routines. Her floor and beam were out of 9.8 not a ten. That is why she had no business being on that team

  6. macstabby Says:

Chellsie’s gymnastics wasn’t always the prettiest but she was tough as nails and hit when it counted. She came through for USAG SO many times. I didn’t watch the whole thing because I don’t want to have a rage-stroke.

  7. JAS4 Says:

Marta probably didn’t want Chellsie at Nationals and Trials showing up Nastia’s bars so she could put Nastia on the team if she hit

    • madbladescasc Says:

Thet is possible. Martha knew better than anyone else, that when Chellsie is healthy, she can be ready really fast, as she proved multiple times before. We all know that Sacramone coming back from ACL injury was really fast, but look at Chellsie – she got a surgery like three months before Classics and we saw on training videoes from this events that she was already capable of doing much more than just a beam routine. Martha figured that Chellsie will be ready enough for Visas, that she will qualify for Trials, so she will have another two weeks… and she doesn’t waste time on talking like Liukin does. I believe that – if she wasn’t denied her petition – she could be able to outscore Kyla Ross on BB and FX and provide a UB score high enough to take her spot (USA Team really needed UB+FX “specialist”). I’m not saying that it would really hapen (since there is also selection commite… or commmies?), but score-wisely it was possible. Damn, Nastia would be so mad.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Chellsie did a floor routine with tumbling in training at that meet and she nshould have competed that routine. Not a rumor just a personal opinion but Marta saw how well Chellsie was coming on floor and she knew Chellsie had it in her to prove everyone wrong and that floor routine she nailed in training was the reason IMO Chellsie was not allowed to petition.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Yep – Chellsie verified at Classics that she had a full floor routine ready to go too. So could you imagine what would have happened had she shown up at nationals/Trials with a full floor, full bars, and good beam? That would have thrown a wrench in Marta’s “Nastia” plan.

The thing is, Chellsie wouldn’t have helped Team USA on beam. So why her Classics beam score even mattered that much kills me. She most likely would have helped on bars and floor, and really that was the missing “piece” of the puzzle.

Marta was making everyone think the last piece missing from the puzzle was a beam/bars specialist – so she could take Nastia – (which it was with Kyla) but really at that point in Trials USA was already really strong on beam. If anything, the last “needed” slots were in bars/floor. Chellsie was the only one that could really fulfill that, and Marta knew it and didn’t want to even bother risking it given what happened in ’08.

Even given what happened at nationals in 2011 – when Chellsie would have pretty much earned silver in the AA at nationals right behind Weiber if she hadn’t scratched her final bar routine because of injury.

Although part of me can’t blame Marta on not wanting Chellsie on the team just given her knack for having injuries at the WRONG moment.

    • Sara Says:

That’s what I think. Since Nastia was basically guaranteed a spot if she hit on bars, Chellsie would just get in the way. It’s really sad because I love Chellsie, and quite honestly I think her bars are a lot better than Nastia’s are. Watching that video just depressed me. She was so amazing and.. I won’t even go into it, it makes me angry which is why I should have had self-control and not watched the whole thing.
