Jordyn Wieber Returns

She looks great. OMG, is the dumbest name for a segment but Gymnastike rules because they piss of jealous GGMB and give us info we other wise might not get.

The Jordyn stuff starts at like 339. She has all her old skills back and the double double was landed with upper body up which means she has her power back. She looks to be in great shape.

Jenny Kirk and Aunt Joyce have started a new website for their podcast, The Skating Lesson. There is a second part of the interview with Frank Carroll.

If you have an hour, listen to part two. Lost of Kwan stuff, almost all Kwan actually.

People have been completely ignoring Jordyn when it comes to Worlds…obviously it’s hard to tell based on one video with a few skills, but if she has anywhere near her 2012 difficulty back by summer, she could easily take an AA spot on the US team. I don’t know if that’s a feasible goal at this point (against, hard to tell without more footage), but I think it’s strange that people seem to be counting her out entirely.

  2. sainabou nyang Says:

If I were Geddert I would have her train AA but only do two events at Classics. Then do AA at Nationals.

    • Tortuga Says:

I agree. And with Katelyn out and Lexie not quite where she needs to be Jordyn definitely has a lot of things going in her favor for worlds. Hopefully an AA spot. With a DLO on floor and a re-worked beam. Some tweaking on bars ( please take out those damn Weiler kips) surely she has more difficulty and better chances than Biles. I want Kyla and Jordyn in the AA.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Ditto to Kyla and Jordyn. Maybe Kyla will indeed have the last laugh since she’s been taking it rather easy on ‘upgrades’ and therefore is avoiding injury, whereas we all saw what happened with Ohashi. Ohashi might now just be hoping for a spot for beam and maybe floor – i leave out bars because of her shoulder. Who knows. It looks like for this Worlds the bars field is very weak which should actually favor Kyla since she’s by far the best US bar worker. Jordyn could even potentially take another bars spot too. I agree with the Weiler kips being taken out but it looked like she was training them so I bet she keeps them in for D points.

What will really be nice to see is her beam. I’m overall excited Jordyn is back just because you don’t often get to see a former Olympian gymnast make that commitment so soon after a Games. And knowing the likes of Jordyn she’s training hard – and it shows in that video.

Does anyone know if Ebee or Finnegan might be in the mix for Worlds?

I say how cool would it be if two of the “Fierce Five” make the 2013 World team.

      • katecoursey Says:

You never know about Maroney either…if she’s back in full vaulting shape after her injury, it’s possible they might take her as well (hard to know at the moment, since we don’t have any updates on her, but I believe she’s attending the next camp). I know Simone is training a second vault, but it’ll take time to get it competition-ready, and Maroney at full strength still has the better amanar of the two.

  3. Case Says:

Told you she wasn’t messing around. If she stays healthy she is an AA contender.

  4. Gymnerd Says:

I hope she comes back so strong that she can’t be denied by Marta or TPTB. Good for her!!

  5. nero Says:

OH GOD I’m crying….you go Jo!!!!

I wonder what new skills she has?? Double layout on floor perhaps? A new release move on bars? I wonder if she’ll go for a front aerial front aerial connection like Ohashi? Or aerial to side somi like Pavlova???

And a new floor routine??? MUST.HAVE.IN.MY.LIFE.NOW

  6. exgymgurl Says:

Im ready to cry. Holy wowzers batman… OMG is a dumb name for a segment, but their Wieber footage was incredible so props to them. Shes back… GO Jo BE SO GOOD THEY CANT IGNORE YOU…. I know I called your gymnastics robotic and boring but youre officially fierce now so I take it back. I take it all back. And I dont think I saw that fire or that kind of fight before….. freaking intense….

    • nero Says:

LOL “You’re officially fierce now” Now, it’s obviously too soon for Jordyn to have a nickname as fierce as Chellsie Fucking Memmel BUT if she does have a strong showing I do think Jo is worthy of some type of super hero nickname.

    • Case Says:

That’s what I’ve noticed about her. She’s intense in a pissed off chip-on-her-shoulder unfinished business kind of way….and we’re talking about somebody who is freaking intense to begin with. She could easily show up at camp and whoop everybody. She’s a very dangerous gymnast this quad.

      • Tortuga Says:

I know it’s too early to tell but would it not be amazing for her to win world AA title twice? The best revenge on her 2012 Olympic AA let down. She would join the ranks of Shannon Miller in winning the world AA title twice.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

That would be awesome but I have a feeling the judges won’t allow for that to happen. Unless other people fall.

      • Tortuga Says:

I can dream. She can say “BOOM, take that Marta!”

  7. Uglyfatkid Says:

Oh yea! That is what I am talking about. I’m rooting for Jo more than anyone else right now. Love Kyla, Simone, EBee, and the rest, but there is something about her that I can’t ignore right now.

The new skill has to be the double layout on floor right??? Hopefully that replaces the 2.5 twist she does (which always surprised me that she never connected it with a punch front or something similar).

Assuming that she does have all of he skills back, what other areas do you think she should upgrade?

Bars: I hope she is keeping her DLO with a full dismount, she needs all the extra tenths she can get. She needs more connections here. I think they could rework the set to code whore a bit more. Code whoring isn’t fantastic by any means (damn Nastia bars), but you have to whore a little or you won’t be able to compete with the top bar workers out there. Part of Jo’s downfall was her low scoring bars. She needs to pick up tenths anywhere she can here.

Vault: if she still has her amanar, she’s doing well here. However, if they are only doing individual events this year, it might be smart to learn another vault. Nothing crazy, but something that sweetens the pot in her favor come selection time. A possible world metal on vault might be that extra incentive for Marta to take her.

Beam: First off…connections. Hopefully her douche coach pulled his head our of his ass and fixed the flow/connections in the routine. I hope we see some new and inventive combos. Her leaps could use some work too. Lastly, I hope she has a new dismount. As much as I hate the double pike, it is valued more than the 2.5 and she could use something more here. Maybe a full in if she can’t get a triple full all the way around???

Floor: As I already mentioned above, she needs to get rid of the 2.5 twist. Hopefully the double layout will take the place of the 2.5.

What do you all think? What should she add/delete?

    • JAS4 Says:

I agree I think a second vault would be helpful it doesn’t have to be anything crazy just something to put her in contention for a vault medal (maybe something in the 5.5-5.6 SV range). I also agree that her bars could be re-worked to use the code to her advantage maybe at least get her bar routine to the 6.7-6.8 SV range (I think her SV on bars in London was a 6.4). I also hope they get creative with beam and use the code to her advantage there as well! I hope to see the double layout on floor as well! I wonder if she is capable of a full twisting double layout on floor? I hope she can have good start values on everything for example:
6.3( if she has her Amanar back
5.5-5.6( for a possible second Vault)
      6.5-6.7(at least a 6.3ish though)

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I think someone on here said that Geddert said that a second vault wasn’t working out for Jo. That’s too bad given her amanar is rather clean overall. I’m wondering why can’t she do the Lopez type vault or a front entry like a rudi. Does Geddert still do his blog? Maybe one of us should tweet him and ask, lol.

I remember at one point she had that 2.5 twist into a punch front (or was it a layout front?) and she was having mad issues with that pass. I think it was Jesolo 2010 (or 2011?) where she did that pass and it was scary – looked like she was one inch from landing on her head/neck. I agree though they should do more creative things overall to up her D scores on beam, bars, and floor. She’s talented enough. She has the whole package and the skills, just who knows what’s going on with her coach.

Nothing is more irritating than seeing a really talented gymnast with the entire package being pulled down in rankings because of coach decisions out of her control.

    • Gymbee Says:

Wasn’t it John Geddert who said that they had tried to learn a second vault, but it just wasn’t happening/ going their way? (maybe I am thinking of another gymnast.)

Anyway, I definitely agree she should lose the 2.5. Too easy of a pass for someone of that caliber (without adding a punch front that is).

    • sainabou nyang Says:

I think Jordyn could do a front entry vault.

    • Case Says:

I’m not sure Jordyn wants/needs a second vault. That amanar is pretty solid. Her time may be better spent shoring up and upgrading her beam and bars.

  8. mimi Says:

i am SO excited that jo is in contention. fingers crossed she’s so amazing that marta cant ignore her. really impressed she is where she is with her training already. lexie has been pretty out of sorts, jo just slots right into where lexie may have been considered for worlds.

  9. mimi Says:

ohh and poor katelyn is breaking already…. shoulder surgery??

  10. sainabou nyang Says:

Triple Twist is also going to interview Jordyn next month. Could be interesting.

  11. exgymgurl Says:

I dont think Jordyn needs a second vault. I just think she needed not to have that stress fracture. As much as they say it doesnt affect them it does. And I agree with code whoring. She needs skills and stuff that makes sense. And connected skills on beam. Someone really needs to look at the code and figure out what makes sense for her and build into it…..

I love how gymnastike commented on Katelyns shoulder surgery. Theyre right, USAG should have said more like it was a torn labrum or something. Because some shoulder surgeries are not as recoverable as others…… And two sentences is all they said about when Alyise Ischino got injured at camp prior to 2004. Usually not a good sign when there are no details on the injury. But who knows. Her parents could have taken her for the surgery outside of USAG recommendations, figuring it gives her the best shot at 2016 to do it now even if USAG said to wait and see.

    • Tortuga Says:

Shoulder problems might explain why Ohashi’s bars haven’t been as strong as they should be. All those Onos Valarie throws in their routines I’m sure take a toll on them. I think doing the surgery now will benefit her as far as the quad goes. I think her body will stay young and she can make up for lost time before Rio. If she can hold that long.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Well honestly shoulder issues are up there with ankle/knee/back issues in gymnastics – those speed up the demise of your career. We all saw how Chellsie’s shoulder affected her during her career (as well as her ankle, hah) and quite honestly any evidence of shoulder issues now should be taken as an early warning sign. Not to say Ohashi won’t have a chance in the future, but Valerie is not known for letting injuries fully heal before his athletes make a full blown comeback (Bross) and Ohashi is more of a fragile body type so if she isn’t careful this could be an issue for the long term sadly.

It’s also not a good sign to issue a two-sentence press release (I’m glad they kind of made fun of it) because usually the less you say the more it means something is being hidden.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Valeri is too busy code whoring her for points he doesn’t realize she is not built for all those moves. I think we have learned already he is incapable of pacing a gymnast. He got lucky with Nastia because she was injured in 06 and 07 and healthy for 08.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

And yet Marta puts him in charge of development of the younger girls/gymnasts. Go figure.

      • Case Says:

You hit the nail on the head GTT. Ohashi is a beautiful bar worker, but consideration needs to be given to match her routine with her capabilities. Otherwise she’ll be another career cut too short due to constant injury.

      • Tortuga Says:

He’s definitely forcing her into the code whoring, not caring what happens to her body. Now she probably won’t be healthy enough for worlds or cause more damage by coming back full force too soon. Good job setting your new star up for success Valeri!

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Has Valerie been able to get any athlete to the Olympics besides his own daughter?

      • Tortuga Says:

And does Yevgeney just not have any elites at this time or is he not coaching elite anymore at all?

      • JAS4 Says:

        *Conspiracy theory time*

Maybe Marta and Valeri have decided to try to ruin USAG from the inside so that in the future Russia and Romania will be on top again lol

      • mimi Says:

        haha JAS4, love it.

      • exgymgurl Says:

Sanity: No Valeri hasnt gotten anyone but Nastia to the olympics. He gets credit for Carly when that was clearly Yevgeny ……. and you make a good point, Chow is the most successful coach of the last two quads…. medal wise. Iowa is the perfect place to move to and train if you want no distractions besides hypnotic windmills. Ive driven through Iowa and the only thing I can say is I was saying to myself move along nothing to see here the whole drive……..

But Valeri Liukin is similar to Marta birds of a feather stick together

    • byrdisthewyrd Says:

What are the rules with camp? Does Jordyn have to attend at some point or can she just show up at Classics and compete?

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Rules are as Marta dictates them. You would think having been an Olympian the year prior Jo would have automatically qualified to at least Classics, but knowing Marta she’ll want Jo to go through all the rigor morale of camp and then probably pressure Jo to do the AA at Classics. Or better yet, have her do beam and hope she falls off or something so she can deny her petition to move forward.

I don’t think at this point Marta would be that vindictive to Jo (maybe if it were 2015) but Jo would be smart to attend camp seeing as to how Marta will literally crucify you if you don’t follow the procedure her way. Her way being mandatory participation in those death camps.

      • exgymgurl Says:

Hopefully Jordyn has learned from Memmelism that no matter how good you are if you dont go to camp Marta doesnt care. Yes she can show up at Classics without going to camp. Im pretty sure she will show up at camp this month or next because Jordyn doesnt want anything to screw this up……Im pretty sure like Kyla she’ll tow the line as long as she has to. I hope there was a long conversation with Geddert about what happened in London.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Chellsie didn’t go to some camps leading up to 08 but she proved herself at Nationals and Trials. Marta did not want that to happen again so she made sure it didn’t.

This had nothing to do with not going to camps. IMO, It had to do with Marta not wanting to be stuck with Chellsie in the first place.

She could have let Chellsie compete but she didn’t want her there. They made sure she couldn’t pull what she pulled in 08.

      • exgymgurl Says:

And Sanity, Jordyn doesnt have to go to Classics and doesnt have to petition anywhere. She could go to Classics and splatfest and still pay her money for nationals and automatically qualify. She can go to classics and pull a “stick it” if she wants to and scratch everything and yell Jordyn Wieber RULES and still go to Championships…..My guess is she’ll go to camp and do the right things and say the right things and Not give a flying F— what anyone says back to her unless its helpful. This is Jordyn Wieber 2.0

Oh and BTW GTT there is an AP writer that is saying the hot new rumour in the gymternet is that Jordyn will train 2 vaults…. sounds like shes reading this blog….

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Do you know why Marta didn’t want Chellsie around? Did she not like her gymnastics or was it a political thing? Maybe she wanted Chellsie to be the scapegoat like if you don’t follow the “rules” (i.e., go to camp and such) I will make sure you pay for it. I mean it was pretty evident Chellsie wasn’t going to make the Olympic team but I still wonder why – even in 2008 – Marta didn’t like Chellsie. It seemed like all through her career she wanted so badly to ignore Chellsie but Chellsie wouldn’t let her.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Marta did not want Chellsie on the team in 08. IMO she was still bitter she beat her little pet Nastia in 05 plus in Marta’s defense Chellse always seemed to get injured but if you remember in 03 Marta sent Chellsie to Pan Am’s even though Chellsie hit at camp. Yet when everyone got so injured and Chellsie did well at Pan ams Marta had no choice but to bring her to worlds.

Marta has her favorites and holds grudges when they beat her pet. That is why she is still so bitter about Miller.

I don’t think the camp thing is as big as everyone else does. IMO Marta made sure Chellsie could not come back and do so well she could not be ignored. That is what Chellsie did in 08. Marta had her Olympic team in mind and Chellsie ruined it.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Makes sense. Who do you think Marta would have had over Chellsie in 2008? I’m trying to remember…Hong you think? Or Shayla Worley (ew)?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I don’t know but we all know Marta has idea’s in her head way before the team is picked

      • madbladescasc Says:

And that is exactly why the moment when Chellsie finishes her FX routine on Olympic Trials in 2008 was so great – everyone, even Martha, had to stand up and give her applause for what she just did, and I believe that at this moment there was no doubt about Chellsie making the team. She just wasn’t lucky enough during Games (but at least there was no drama about only two from Nastia/Shawn/Chellsie qualifying to AA final, like it was in London).

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Marta stoof up because she would have looked like an idiot if she did not stand up. She had no choice when everyone else stood up.

      • icemeltsfast Says:

This is kind of off topic, but Marta had to pick Chellsie for her bars at the very least… I am glad she didn’t get subbed in despite her injuries and contributed to the TF. Hong’s bars were not as good as Chellsie’s. An injured Chellsie’s UB > Hong’s best UB.

I watched some stanford meet the other day and was disappointed to see that Hong’s Tkatchev is still SO LOW. butt scraping for sure.

I am still surprised Marta doesn’t like Chellsie. There’s nothing not to like about her imo.

  12. exgymgurl Says:

Marta wants all of the younger girls not to be able to do vault… like Liukins athletes…Ohashi was at Gage before moving to WOGA right? Im sure gymnastike at this point has enough connections that they put a call into WOGA after seeing that two sentence statement. Has she gone pro already? Or could she at least salvage a scholarship?

    • Sara Says:

I don’t think Katelyn has gone pro. I noticed she did some modeling for GK Elite, but Kyla did too, so I don’t think it counts? If she has gone pro, I’m seriously worried for her. Valeri is completely tiring her out. She looks exhausted every time she competes. She appears to hate Valeri too, which takes its toll when you are training for 4-7 hours a day with him (although I would despise him if I trained with him. What an ass). I think GTT hit the nail on the head by saying he does not pace his gymnasts well. With the way he does things, she’ll be back in the gym tomorrow.

      • gymnastwannabe Says:

I was thinking the same thing – that Ohashi looks exhausted. She has the same look on her face that Bross had at Nationals and Trials last year. I’m not excited about Valeri having more control over our younger athletes. The little trio b/t Marta, Valeri and NBC is what made it possible for Nastia to go to Trials last year. I wonder how things work with them…who pays off who.

  13. GymMom Says:

Aly’s Parade Blog for this week. You can skip over the clip of Gabby dancing because she can’t dance!

    • Case Says:

I fear that Aly is trying to land some celebrity to date (a la ASac) who will screw her over royally. She needs to find a nice boy from Needham to learn the dating ropes from.

  14. GymMom Says:

Shawn is practically begging Aly to let her come visit DWTS. Pathetic!

    • gymnastwannabe Says:

You’ve commented in the past that you thought Shawn wasn’t supporting Aly and that Shawn was jealous of Aly. Now it seems like you are scolding Shawn for supporting her. I guess I could see how you might think Shawn is riding Aly’s coat tail by asking to come, but Shawn’s huge popularity on dwts would actual be a big benefit to Aly. I see Shawn’s request as her supporting Aly and think it’s great.

  15. exgymgurl Says:

segment from the 2011 covergirl classic with a bunch of gymnasts marta pushed aside…..

  16. laurensy Says:

Please Jordyn, get rid of those kips. I hope they do something with that turn after the Shaposhnikova. it always looked like a struggle for her.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Yeah she always messed up there – not anywhere else. I hope they get rid of the kips too.

      • laurensy Says:

How difficult would it be to change her routine to something she could manage?

  17. exgymgurl Says:

And in news from Russia…. this is interesting, this is the same lady that said Mustafina wouldnt win anything, and no mention of Komova

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Thanks for sharing that. I’m not sure who’s worse, that lady or Marta.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

If they are counting on Afan to help them in 4 years that means they have crap in the junior ranks to help them in 4 years. That girl is so overrated and has one usable event.

I don’t get the Afan love. I liked her floor last year and she did better than expected on beam but IMO that had more to do with the idiotic beam judges than her talent.

      • Catherine Says:

Certainly they lack difficulty. Kharenkova also sucks on bars. Anastasia Dmitrieva, Maria Bondareva and Viktoria Kuzmina are their biggest hopes, and they are all far behind the difficulty level the US juniors of the same age have..I hope they catch up. But Russia will need the core of the 2012 team heading towards Rio alright.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Sad to see the once dominant gymnastics countries becoming not so dominant due to depth issues. Romania and now Russia. And I’m just recently learning to really appreciate both too (years ago I was just a USA fan of course, but now I am more open minded haha).

You know I only really like Afan’s floor, and that’s due to the choreo. Other than that she doesn’t really stand out overall. And she seems to do much better in team situations as opposed to individual (with the exception of Worlds Floor EF in 2011, and I still say Sui Lu should have won that gold over Afan). She’s Russia’s Dawes, hahahaha. With or without the ego I don’t know.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

She has better form than but I agree with you that Sui should have been the floor champion with Aly second

      • sainabou nyang Says:

That was my thought too gtt especially the part where she mentions how theyre trying to preserve the senior gymnasts and would like afan to continue to rio. My thought was damn do they have no faith in their juniors.

      • icemeltsfast Says:

I am also amazed that Afan has stuck around for so long, even though I love her floor. I don’t believe that Russia and Romania are that deep actually. Either that, or they are all about to improve a lot & will turnover their athletes in 2015 or something (not likely). Komova needs to beat all the US AAers before that happens, please. And I’d like her to do it with at least a 1pt margin so that we don’t get a huge debate over it like always.

Ok Sui only lost 2011 FX to Afan because either her Memmel or her stag was downgraded. There’s still a debate over this and either way, it’s absolutely ridiculous because both skills were undeductable. She was robbed like always lol

GTT will you do an awards blog for 2012 or the quad? Even though it’s April hahaa

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Sorry, Totally forgot about that. Its probably too late to do one.

      • icemeltsfast Says:

No need to apologize- it’s your blog afterall. Just thought it would be fun to read– esp since the couchgymnast awards weren’t very satisfying but that could be my own bias.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

If you want to write one I will post it? Just no nice Gabby or Nastia stuff. I’ll get sick hearing

  18. exgymgurl Says:

This has a link to a cool youtube channel where they take routines of the past and put them in this d code. It would be interesting to see how / where they score if you count the out of 10 as execution and added the d score……

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Wow so Cheng Fei’s 2004 routine would only be worth what Kyla’s is worth today…(5.5 ish)…dang. Although I don’t know if I believe that with a triple twist, double double, and full twisting double. I think that calculation is off but that’s just my take. I don’t know the code as well as others for sure.

Vanessa Atler’s routine would have been worth more than a 5.7 with another pass. She only had three passes.

  19. exgymgurl Says:

How could we have missed nastia coaching at this hahahaha

    • Sara Says:

I feel so confused. I just can’t wrap my head around this “challenge”. They did get some interesting people to do it though. You can tell they are trying to make it seem like less of a little girls sport.
On a side note, I seriously wonder how Nastia juggles school and doing stuff like this..

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Another reason NOT to watch it and more proof the idiots in the know in gymnastics are in fact idiots.

  20. DL Says:

    Here’s a livestream for Europeans:

  21. Katie Says:

Q: why does Marta hate Jo so much? Gabby didn’t really come onto the scene until the 2012 American cup. Is it bc of Geddart?

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I don’t think she hates Jordyn. I think she just saw how Geddert refused to fix the beam and saw the writing on the wall

  22. exgymgurl Says:

Four people to worlds. I think the training squad is Kyla, Biles, Ernst, EBee ( if shes well), Wieber, Maroney ( if she can vault and floor), and then its 4 of those 6…….I dont think Finnegan is recovered enough. If Maroney, Wieber and Ross do well at championships it will be hard for Marta to leave any of them home. That leaves Biles, Ernst and EBee fighting for spot 4. It will depend on who is / isnt injured but its 4 of those 6. I dont think Ohashi is back in time if shes smart…

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Biles is ahead of Kyla right now and as bad as this might sound if Kyla doesn’t upgrade I say leave her at home. She has to understand that she will not come close to winning medals without upgrades on 3 of the 4 events. Now if Marta is in on this and that is why she isn’t upgrading she might make the team but IMO, Kyla’s injury is worse than what they are saying.

I honestly think Kyla might be better off left at home if she is staying the status quo.

  23. exgymgurl Says:

Kyla and Lexie both ( Lexie or Amelia because one of MLTS People) are getting too tall, which can cause injury if they overtrain while growing. One of them is all of a sudden taller than Kyla now, and the two of them tower over the rest of the gymnasts… If Kyla needs to rest then she should rest and start deciding between Stanford and UCLA and then start thinking about Gymnastics and diving…

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I don’t think she has to retire she needs to reinvent herself.

Make her own skills like Khorkina .

Kyla’s problems are all foot related. She cannot upgrade because she cannot land on her foot. That is why the Amanar is gone and why she cannot upgrade floor but at this point the real problem is if she can’t upgrade she cannot compete so she might as well rest her foot until she is healthy.

      • exgymgurl Says:

Why not use ASac’s sole impact thingys? And if the injury has been going on this long why hasnt she been rested sooner. This means that since Jesolo of 2012 her last Amanar shes been battling this….Any kind of heel injury that goes on that long does not bode well for the tibia on that particular leg, and it does not bode well for the knee etc.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Its her heel that is having the issues and from what I remember hearing about the issue the only cure is rest from pounding. More than I should be saying.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

GTT you probably have more inside scoop on this but I can’t help but think that if Kyla just needs rest on her heel, then why the heck aren’t they resting her now instead of pushing her to these less important meets? Id rather stay home for say Jesolo than Worlds.

Plus here’s my other question and my friend made the same point: landing will hurt the heel no matter what. So say a double tuck dismount will hurt just as much as a full twisting double (or what have you) since your same weight is landing with similar impact. I can see the takeoff being different (more power needed for adding a twist or something) but overall won’t the landing be the same in terms of impact? So what I’m trying to get at is will stunting her difficulty really save her heel injury? Seems like resting it would be the more effective solution and why not do it now so she will have time to more effectively train for worlds? If she’s so injured why are they pushing her with these less important meets? It’s not like she needs the experience.

I’m thinking (hoping) that there’s a strategy with her not upgrading…or she’s really having issues with her abilities.

I agree with you though she should not be on that Worlds team if she doesn’t upgrade. Even her bars…they are the best the US has NOW…but she can’t hold a candle to what Musty is capable of nor the Chinese. Marta would be smarter to take someone like Jordyn at that point to be honest.

idk if i’m capable of writing nice stuff about gabby. she does a high tkatchev and that’s about it. I can give her Most Overrated. And Nastia should have retired at her peak form, 2005.

I can write some but I don’t think you (or anybody else) will agree with all of them:

Most controversial debate that shouldn’t even be a debate because it’s so obvious who’s better and who should have won gold: komova’s AA (2011 & 2012).

Most surprising fall: Maroney 2012 VT EF of course.

Most disappointing performance at the Olympics: Grishina what the hell happened to you.

    Most scammed ScAm: can’t decide.

Most annoying person to see/hear from in London: Shawn

Most idiotic judging error: Men’s Team FInal, 2012 for crediting Kohei’s handstand.

Most WTF execution score of the quad: Alexandra Raisman 2011 AA Uneven bars but also in general for her bars.

Most improved: Sui Lu. This girl used to only stay on beam for domestic competitions. She really turned around in both 2011-2012. SHe also wins for Most Robbed as I’ve mentioned previously.

Most ridiculous comeback: haha okay I can’t decide this one either.

    Best comeback from retirement: Ponor.

Most WTF Marta decision: not letting Anna Li sub in for Asac at world’s.

Most WTF coaching decision: Geddert and those “connections”

Most WTF warmups: close one between Russia Acid Trip 2012 & US Grey Blob 2012

    Best leo: Porgras 2010 All-around

    Most disappointing retirement: Porgras😦

Most heartattack inducing gymnast: Huang Q, all competitions, every event. Oh, it’s so great that she is an AAer.. that’s at least 12 events per competition I get to stop breathing for. I guess less because she doesn’t really tank VT.

    Ignoring results/outcome…
    Best AAer: Komova
Best bar worker: He Kexin (earlier) & Komova (later)
Best beam worker: Tan Sixin. she’s a headcase but i can’t ignore this:
Best floor worker: Mai Murakami (tumbling) & Grishina/Porgras (dance)
    Best vaulter: Maroney
    Best team overall: Russia.
    Best eye candy: philipp boy!

This is obvious but just in case: “^ IMO”

As a 4-year fan, I can tell you people will be pulling for Jo. If there is one thing Americans love, its a comeback story. We all saw the NBC footage of Jo after not making AA in London. To go from that, to a possible Rio comeback, people will love it. I am pulling for her. If anyone “deserves” it, its Jo.
