No news on the second American cup gymnast. Considering they are probably on their way here in the next two days I find this lack of an answer odd. Almost like USA-Gymnastics is looking for someone to get in shape so they can send a big name. (Jordyn Wieber??)
Someone tell Nellie Kim she is not a Legend. She’s a cheater and should be kicked out of the sport. I read somewhere Nelli is pretty bitter that Nadia gets all the attention for the first 10 since she got a ten herself in the same competition.
I know there are a lot of Tom Brady haters here including myself but I must say I never saw this one coming. 9 million dollars a year extension? You will never see Peyton Manning doing this.

I saw that about Beth’s ex a while ago. Seeing as he had absolutely no class in going to the most fleabag tabloid (well second most after The Sun) around to flog his story…then good riddance and I have no sympathy for how he was dumped..if it’s even true, since twisting stories is DM’s favourite thing to do.
Who do you think it will be? I think Priessman. Would love Biles either since I like her better but Priessman’s floor routine debut should be incredible to watch. If I can watch..word is no live streams???!! I think Jordyn will be at Nationals but not a chance for this..
Hate that Nelli interview. Blah blah I was amazing, and look Galina copied me. Why not just say something like it’s great to see old compatriots/competitors again.

Nelli Kim is overrated Imo and not because of the cheating. I remember watching a doc on Nadia and even when they interviewed her and Korbut, the both sound like a bunch of haters.
What I’ve always liked about Nadia is how humble and unfazed she is about her success.Those are my favorite types of atheletes who are completely chill when it comes to how talented they are.

Nadia sounds a bit pissed at the 1980 AA.Which was dodgy as hell but Nadia was getting big gifts then too and she was counting a fall. Mukhina should have have been there to wipe the floor with them all. It was part of the Faster, Better, Stronger doc. Worth watching for the quality alone! The saddest thing in it is Korbut in 76 who looks like a meth addict she’s so exhausted and grey.

i wonder how the girls are coping with the pressure for vying for the second spot. i don’t really understand why marta tires them
out with all these secretive camp mini-comps. it’s not like they aren’t under enough pressure already.

I wonder if Aly will “gain weight” the way Shawn did on DWTS. Something tells me no. I think Aly will do decent on the show – Shawn wasn’t the best dancer either (in fact, Aly might be better even though that first floor routine of ASac’s that she took on was downright hideous).
Nellie Kim deserves to be passed over for Nadia – I can’t stand cheaters.
I bet Marta’s beating the crap out of the seniors now and having them do some sort of “secret” competition for that second American Cup spot. She’s probably holding it over a few peoples’ heads to see who she can break first, since she probably figures none of this crop will make it to Rio…

I was thinking the same thing about camp. That’s why we don’t know because she’s making them compete for it. Then they will be too exhausted when they get there to do well. I hope not. My guess is Lexie or Katelyn. I don’t know if I’m confusing this with the DWTS announcement but I thought I heard the second women’s spot would also be announced on Tuesday.

Brady has made millions over the years and it doesn’t matter if he has a rich wife. Athletes are known for thinking money = respect. Brady taking a BIG pay cut is huge. No one else does this.
NBA players certainly don’t and you never have enough money. Look at all the athletes that have gone broke over the years. 100 plus million sometimes isn’t enough.
A lot of these athletes come from no money. I can imagine how crazy I might go if I all of a sudden got 100 million dollars to spend on anything. Hell I would be in the front row of every skating, baseball, gymnastics events known to man kind staying in the best hotels being limo’ed anywhere I want. I would so be a great rich person though I would probably be broke by Wednesday 🙂

there was commentary that brady hates losing more than anything and if taking a pay cut would help ensure his success. and while in comparison to the other top qbs its significantly less, $9mil or whatever it is a year is still quite a salary.

Sorry GTT, Brady didn’t really do New England that big of a favor because he doubled his guaranteed money. Now they are on the hook for $57 million even if he gets hurt next year and never plays again. There’s always a catch, especially with Tom Brady. From ESPN:
“Until the agreement was revealed yesterday, Brady was under contract to the Patriots for two seasons with a contract containing $30 million in guarantees. Now he’s under contract for five seasons with $57 million guaranteed for injury.”

This is totally fishy. I am calling that Marta is using SCAM to “test” the newbies on the international circuit for worlds. Similar to what she did for 2011 Worlds to “test” the newbies for the Olympics, only on a much lower scale.
She likely is seeking the “reasoning” for putting Ohashi on that team for the AA no matter what.
Ross probably “can” compete but Marta doesn’t need/want her to yet. If she’s traveling and all and might do an exhibition on beam (which wouldn’t you think if she had a bruised heel, BARS would make for the better exhibition?) then she is likely in competition shape.
I bet Marta will plan on trying to break Kyla before Worlds.
Sad that the two better AA contenders (Ebee and Kyla) were too injured to compete here.

Why are you complaining that they’re not having Kyla compete when she’s injured? Isn’t that a good thing? It sounds like she was hurt for a while and her coaches pulled her out, that sounds pretty smart to me. Jordyn’s bruised heel turned into a stress fracture.

I am not complaining that they pulled her out for injury – I just think something is off because why have her perform an exhibition on a leg event at the same competition where she was taken out for injury? Why not let her stay home and rest?
I don’t trust Marta, especially when it comes to Kyla. She was totally planning on ousting Kyla for Nastia at the Olympics until Nastia face-planted it.
I also don’t trust Kyla’s coaches because they just do whatever Marta says. I.e., “Don’t upgrade your floor, Kyla – and don’t upgrade beam/bars dismount” even though that would have likely been the difference b/t Kyla being a potential AA’er at the Olympics vs. an event specialist.
I’m from near where Kyla trains and my friend used to coach at her gym. Her coaches are push-overs. Nice people, but big-time push-overs.

When did they announce who was competing at scam Dec or Jan? If Kyla supposedly had a bruised heel for the past few weeks then why announce her as competing at scam.

It’s in the article even, Penny is going on about the competition having a history of “introducing new faces to the world”. That’s probably why they had Kyla retire.

Apparently it’s been slower than expected to heal, could well be the reason. The ‘new faces’ thing is a bit of a positive take, they would have preferred to have a fierce 5 member from a marketing point of view.
It’s also said that she’s recovering and that it’s much better but she isn’t good to go on all 4 events. Hence why exhibitoning the one she’s known for makes perfect sense to me. It wouldn’t if it was still bad..

Lexie is injured. She was injuried last year, rumour is the same thing is bothering her, ankle sprain. Regardless of what the injury is or how severe- she MUST be injured/recovering because she would have been first or second choice.

I know what you mean; I’ll bet she’s hoping to rely on her other events to make it to Rio. Nastia didn’t vault a DTY either but then got overscored on the other events. That’s all it really takes. And in team finals Marta can use someone else to vault since USA has a great vault roster.

Nastia had the benefit of a gigantic uneven bars bias. Katelyn won’t, all events are much more equal now. If she cannot show the potential for a DTY and strong floor this year then she is better off becoming a UB/BB specialist because if she continues with mediocre floor/vault that knocks her out of a US AA spot and can’t be used for team then she risks burning out altogether.

Kaitlyn has a crazy start value on beam where even if she falls she could get a 15 and don’t think for a second the US judges won’t give her the bare minimum deductions.

Exactly. I don’t see how all the events are more equal now; if anything the code downgrades in vault make it so that the AA competition highly favors the bars/beam specialists – where you can get insanely high scores with enough “upgrades” and “connections” that may/may not be biased.
Floor scores are typically the lowest overall, and also leave room for insane bias. Look at how Nastia was scored on floor in 2008 – insane!
Final point: Musty was able to get a bronze in the AA at the Olympics despite a fall on beam and DTY vault because of her crazy high bars score. Aly’s super difficult floor routine could not compensate for Musty’s super difficult bars routine because of the way those two apparatus’ are scored: you barely ever see a floor routine score near a 16; most are in the 15’s if REALLY good.

Well it’s still skewed but it’s better than how it was in 05-08 with the gigantic bars advantage. 09-12 saw the vault advantage. 13-16 has bars going down, vault going down, and beam going up. Floor I think might go up as well. I doubt it will be perfectly even but I think it will be more equal than the last quad and certainly more equal than the quad before that.
Aliya and Aly competed in the old code. I’m only mentioning the new code really. Aliy’s beam was dropped, so she had excellent bars, strong DTY and very good floor versus Aly’s great floor without the punchfront though, good amanar but not great and awful bars. Once it was known it was 3 vs 3 with Aly’s beam dropped there was no way she was going to win.
