The Future of Rebecca Bross

Rebecca gave an interview to Gymnastike at the recent Kim Zmeskal meet and addressed her future in gymnastics.

If you decide not to watch the video here is a short summery.

Rebecca has not decided if she wants to continue. She is currently coaching level 4 gymnasts and did not mention the gym. I am pretty sure she is still in Texas which means it is probably Woga which means she still doesn’t get just how screwed over she was by Valeri Liukin, or has she?

When asked about her knee in this video she says it is fine but she nervously starts taking the cap off her marker and putting it back on. You can hear the clicking sound of the cap being put on and taken off repeatedly

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chellsie Memmel also has an interview and it is interesting to see her demeanor change between the questions. Happy go lucky Chellsie talks about what she is doing with a smile on her face. She sounds at peace with her gymnastics being over, which is good. Then when asked about how it all went down she seems a bit annoyed. Maybe its just me but she doesn’t sound too happy with the idea of judging. Maybe we will get that tell all book after all:)
Happy Truck Day:)
    Just FYI – Rebecca does mention in the interview that she is teaching at WOGA.
    Poor Rebecca! The nervous marker/cap snapping mDe
    Poor Rebecca! The nervous marker/cap snapping made me so sad.
    • gymtruthteller Says:
      So unnerved you needed to post that twice.lol
      It was quite creepy.
    • mimi Says:
      i think she seemed comfortable enough. i like the idea of her coaching. her gymnastics experience would make her quite sensitive to gymnast’s needs and expectations, i’d imagine!
      she seems like such a sweet girl. ugly gym legs, but lovely personality!
  4. Dee Says:
    Oops! Sorry for the double post.
  5. Dee Says:
    I know! I spewed my tea laughing!
    Dumb of me to try to post from my phone.
    • sanitynmotion Says:
      Drinking tea and posting on a blog via your cell phone at the same time…that’s pretty talented. I can barely just post on this blog via my phone.
  6. Catherine Says:
    She had serious difficulty on tour, tumbltrak in the floor or not, so I doubt it’s a major problem. Maybe she’s hyper-aware or afraid it will never withstand serious competition?
  7. sanitynmotion Says:
    Finally watched the Bross video. It’s weird how adult-looking she is. She’s a major hand fiddler.
    I seriously want to tape her hands down.
  8. JAS4 Says:
    Maybe Marta has secretly given her the boot and told her to go on over to the World of coaching or USAG is pressuring her into retiring but she isn’t sure if she is ready too
  9. Sarah Says:
    I think Rebecca’s days as a competitive gymnast are over, whether she wants to admit it or not.
  10. Case Says:
    I’m happy for Chellsie. She does seem at peace with her life (as she should.)
  11. mimi Says:
    chellsie is so poised and lovely. she looks happy and content, i agree Case.
  12. terrigymfan Says:
    Chellsie is very lovely. I like how she doesn’t sugarcoat her feelings about Marta and Steve Penny screwing her over. Her comments about the petition were interesting. I didn’t think the petition had any chance of succeeding when it was happening but I’m glad it was done (and glad to have signed it) now that I see how it made Chellsie feel so much better knowing she had legions of fans supporting her.
  13. exgymgurl Says:
    I thought it was lovely what Chellsie said about the petition and how much the fan support was helpful. What they did to her totally sucked. Im glad to know the petition that started here actually meant something to her.
  14. mimi Says:
    is anyone watching ‘off the mat’ featuring nia dennis on gymnastike? it’s free!
    nia seems great, i didnt know much about her before this, but what a nice, focused kid.
    • Catherine Says:
      Ooo is there more of it up? I love it. So grounded, and great family. I also discovered that Li Li was coaching there a few years ago, hope to find she still is. Li Li of the 1992 team, 93 worlds and 90 goodwill games..with DAT back spin.
    • sainabou nyang Says:
      I watched via cats blog.
      Nia reminds me of Gabby with the same lines and body type. Only she doesn’t have Gabbys personality from what I’ve seen in the clip. She seems very grounded with a good support system. I definitely expert her to be added to the junior natl team.
      Speaking of juniors, the Couch Gymnast has the roster for Woga classic and Laurie Hernandez is expected to compete along with Maria L from Ukraine.
  15. hhollis Says:
    Sorry for the random comment- but does anyone have a link where I can watch the big Bama Florida meet tonight? 🙂
    Here it is. Will ohashi do a FTY or DTY without killing herself?
    • sanitynmotion Says:
      I’m predicting the double. It’s WOGA, and Katelyn only competes with the double as far as I’ve seen. Plus she “needs to impress Marta” (I’m rolling my eyes here)…
  17. nero Says:
    I really shouldn’t go back and watch prelims from the Olympics because it just makes me angry. I had never seen Ponor’s floor routine and she got .066 lower than Jordyn after she completely BALKED her triple. Ugh, Jo was really underscored and all the people who were bitching about how Ponor should have won because she’s ‘artistic’ and Aly sucks should really watch that routine. She really should have been no where near the final.
    • Case Says:
      I was having a sentimental Jo moment earlier today as I stumbled on an old article titled, “Dreams of Individual Gold Deflated After a Lifetime of Focus.” Brutal what she went through.
    • sanitynmotion Says:
      OMG I totally agree. She completely fell out of a tumbling pass and the judges clearly gave it to her where she was able to make the floor final “by the skin of her teeth.” Funny how the judges will mess with scores for the “favorites” but when it came to Jo, they went the opposite way and made sure she didn’t make the AA final at all. Jo deserved to be in that final, whereas Gabby did not. Gabby flew off the matt during her floor and was blatantly overscored. I can’t stand it.
      I love Ponor but she did not deserve the right to be in that floor final. Same with her beam final. She nearly fell off beam in prelims and the judges saved her. Again. So I was happy to see that Aly got that bronze because really Ponor shouldn’t have made that beam final to begin with. I remember Ana Pogras made the SAME mistake as Ponor at Worlds (2010?) and she did not make the beam final. Yet here we are Ponor makes that mistake and her scores are blatantly favored so she makes it.
      At least Jordyn did get a gold though. And you can’t take away the fact she’s a World Champ. I hope she makes a comeback and redeems all that crap that happened to her, but unfortunately you can’t control outrageous idiot judges.
      • nero Says:
        I really shouldn’t have watched but it was there on youtube and I was curious because after USA prelims I was so upset that I didn’t care to watch the others. There were some gymnasts that were really getting the benefit of the doubt and poor Jordyn was hammered.
        I think it was Aliya who said something like ‘you have to leave the judges no doubt you were the best’ so it’s easy to see the OOBs and beam routine as what kept her out of the AA and blame Jordyn for not being on top of her game. That was my rationale these last few months.
        But seeing some of the gifts some of the other girls got makes me really think Jo was low-balled. I don’t think there is some conspiracy amongst the judges to ‘choose’ a winner I just think for whatever reason whether it be she’s American, or she’s the reigning world champ or because she beat Komova by such a small margin she was being judged more harshly then any of the other gymnasts.
      • sanitynmotion Says:
        I can’t put my finger on what it is, but from the start it seemed like there wasn’t any “enthusiasm” for Jordyn Weiber. Even Rebecca Bross got more of a “ooooh, here comes the new ‘it’ girl” over Weiber, despite the fact that Jo had just as much difficulty as Bross and even Shawn Johnson in her routines by the age of 13. Jo was getting some attention – she was selected to compete in the American Cup I think at 13 – but it was almost like the media was doing whatever they could to turn their heads in another direction. They didn’t “want” her. Not sure if it’s her looks or her personality because let’s be honest, Bross isn’t what I would call a Beauty Queen or Ms. Personality – yet she got a lot more fanfare than Aly or Jo ever did at first (my take is that it’s because she’s from WOGA).
        I understood why the media glommed on to ASac, Shawn, and Nastia – I think we can all see why.
        Jo and Aly were largely ignored for awhile. But even since then, the media has been way more accepting of Aly (they portray her as this “dark horse” that came out of nowhere and won all these medals, when us gymnastics fans know that it’s quite the contrary and Aly was a contender all along – she was just ignored before for the likes of Gabby Douglas) than they ever were of Jo. When Jo won Worlds, it was all about “but did she REALLY win?” and then when she didn’t make the AA finals, it was “oh well her teammates were better that day. Sucks.”
        I mean, if you really look at it, most of it stems with the media’s insistence that Gabby Douglas be in the picture. At the American Cup, it wasn’t about “Jo winning” it was about “Gabby’s scores were higher than Jo’s”…then at the other meets, it wasn’t about how well Jo did or even how well Aly did it was “oh, Gabby hurt herself on vault and has to sit out the rest of the meet…dang we didn’t get to see the Gabby vs. Jo rivalry we’ve been waiting for!”…then at nationals again it wasn’t “look how consistent Jo is; she won again!” it was “Gabby would have won if she hadn’t fallen off the beam. Twice.” I mean the whole thing was such a crock. Finally at Trials the media got what they were waiting for all along: “Gabby wins!” (underscore – Gabby won with super inflated scores and Jo was underscored). It was like the picture was being painted all along – I just can’t figure out who was painting it and why. I mean – seriously the whole thing was being set up throughout the course of the year, and Gabby happened to play into it perfectly. Imagine if Gabby had fallen during Prelims at the Olympics. The picture painter wouldn’t know what to do – a Jo/Aly matchup was not ever intended. Aly ended up doing so well that they couldn’t knock HER down, and Gabby wouldn’t be knocked down because she had to WIN, so they knocked Jo down.
        But like you I am curious to figure out what’s behind the motivation. Because I honestly think the thing was rigged from the start and SOMEONE powerful wanted Gabby to be the AA winner at the Olympics.
      • mim Says:
        sanity i totally agree. i simply don’t understand the motivation behind blatantly pushing gabby to be the big gynnastistics star. it really makes no sense! but it’s obvious something like what you said went down, and the foundations were being laid for a long time in the lead up to london.
        why wasn’t jordyn ever embraced the same way? i don’t understand why marta didn’t adore her in the same way she adored gabby, even aly.
      • sainabou nyang Says:
        Yeah but just as I expected you rarely hear about Gabby now. Even with her AA win she’ll be like Carly someone you rarely hear about except if they show up at a major competition. That is if Gabby doesn’t make a successful comeback for Rio.
      • natty Says:
        I totally agree with you and wonder if with scoring like this, maybe chellsie is not overly enthusiastic about judging as a potential job.
        Is kimbo still a judge? wonder what her experience has been…?
    • gingercrush Says:
      Jordyn Wieber’s floor was terrible. Pathetic crappy leaps out of tumbles, awful spins and splits. Her floor was so sluggish. People like to blame Douglas for making AA over Weiber. And I am no Douglas fan. But Weiber’s problem was connections on beam which deservedly did not get rewarded and a lower bar score than Douglas.
      Yes Douglas mucked up floor but it wasn’t as if she wasn’t penalised for it. Her Amanar was better, bars were better and her beam whilst ugly was connected.
      I am tired of the whole “Wieber was robbed brigade”. No she wasn’t. She went to the Olympics looking sluggish and underperfomed in qualifiactions and therefore didn’t make AA due to the two-country rule. Unfortunate that US had two other good gymnasts in Douglas and Raisman but that is how things go sometimes.
      As for the whole conspiracies about Douglas. Not my cup of tea and I would have loved Komova to win AA Gold. But that amanar killed her chances and for one reason or another Komova’s UB looked slightly off all Olympics and she Komova didn’t get the gap necessary to be above Douglas.
      • Catherine Says:
        Geddert damned her chances, and he was even told in podium training and ignored it. I admire her ability to get through her bars routine, it’s such a fight and she does not really even swing. I’m not sure if she peaked too early or gained muscle weight that threw her off and made her sluggish. But then, Gabby and Aly were so overscored while Jordyn was scored fairly so it is hard to say who definitely earned their spot and who didn’t.
        I wonder if GTT’s internet is down with the storm? It looks really nasty..
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        It is nasty. Thanks for the concern. Had a lot of things to do yesterday, never even went online.
        Show looks like it is three feet in front of my house.
      • mimi Says:
        jo was probably sluggish because she was injured, most likely at camp after trials. those camps are ridic i think, they needn’t turn up to a comp exhausted and broken from training. but yes, jo’s vault and beam certainly didn’t do her any favours in prelims, which was really really unfortunately.
      • Biyatch Says:
        Jo was looking off from American Cup tho, it wasn’t just straight off at the Olympics. (Go back and look at some of the comments from the American Cup blogs. From American Cup through she lacked some of the X factor she seemed to have in most of 2011. Dont forget Aly came really close to beating Jordyn at AC in March with a super shitty beam set.
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        I am not a big Wieber fan overall and we all know how I feel about Gabby but I just can’t agree with this. Jordyn was scored fairly where as Gabby was overscored big time on beam where she missed two connections. The beam judges made it clear anything Gabby did was going to be rewarded and they did the same thing for Komova.
      • Biyatch Says:
        GTT I agree with you about Gabby’s gifts, I just dont think Aly catching them was that shocking. I think it was really Jordyns growth spurt between 2011-2012 that hurt her more than the injury.
        Jo was screwed in some ways too by being assigned PacRims instead of Jesolo. Raisman got pummeled score wise in Italy, so they went back and worked on both D and E scores. Jo was never going to get that stag jump connection out of the triple twist on floor. It sucked and thinking about it I think messed up some of her rhythm on the triple twist/forced her out of bounds. Plus beam is well documented. Why was it necessary to change the 2011 routine which she scored better with? She never had non biased judging tell her that her connections sucked until podium training and at that point you cant really blame them for not changing it there. Needed to be done months before.
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        That is why so many of us blame Jordyn’s coach. He did not care, he refused to listen and he did what he wanted and it cost Jordyn.
  18. exgymgurl Says:
    GTT why did you not tell me what a hottie Shoppach is..??? My whole thing is for catchers and I havent seen one this hot in a very long time and now he’s playing for my Mariners….
    Thank you Jeusus
    See I like him so bad I cant even spell Jesus… and I bet Ohashi doesnt do vault only beam and bars or something at this meet….
  19. GymMom Says:
    There she goes again..Shawn tweeting some gross breakfast she’s eating & then talking about “getting her body back in shape.” SHUT-UP & DO IT!
    • exgymgurl Says:
      Quinoa is one of the most healthy superfoods on the planet. As are blueberries. Chia and hemp seeds are also considered very nutrient dense. Natural honey and cinnamon with this is one of the healthiest ( better than oatmeal) breakfasts an athlete could have. Shawn does enough stupid things, saying this is a “gross breakfast” maybe only to someone who’s cukoo for cocoa puffs and cinabon and carls jr and del taco for breakfast…… I think everyone gets that you don’t like her, but for any active person or even an inactive person this would be considered a very healthy, nutritional, lovely breakfast.
  20. GymMom Says:
    Gabby appeared at a car show in DC yesterday…OOPS…time’s up! Her 15 minutes has run out. Appearing at car shows is the bottom of the barrel.
    • Case Says:
      I noticed that too and found it funny, particularly while Jo and Aly are hanging out in L.A. right now.
      • Exgymgurl Says:
        Gabby needs the paycheck. Her mom is the one that signed all the contracts and is the one in the drivers seat because she isnt 18.
      • GymMom Says:
        Saying Shawn’s breakfast was “gross” was a joke…meaning she is PHONEY in describing it as “yummy.” I am very well versed regarding nutrition. I eat a strictly gluten-free, very low sugar diet myself. I eat no red meat & only organic chicken. She tweets a photo of a HUGE sausage she is about to eat at the Super Bowl along with a sugary drink in a cup the size of her head one week & the next week she is trying to convince everyone she is enjoying a healthy breakfast? Yeah right!
        I saw some negative response to Shawn commentating during the UCA Cheerleading Championships in Orlando this weekend because she was never a cheerleader.
        I doubt Gabby was paid to appear at the car show? If she was, it wasn’t much. You’re right though…her mother is calling the shots. I remember when Shawn did DWTS, her contract was made public because the court had to approve it to make sure her “working hours” weren’t exceeded etc.
      • sanitynmotion Says:
        I think some people get really sensitive to the Shawn stuff. I mean I understand about the weight comments but I have to side with GymMom here on the breakfast comment. It was meant to be funny, not a slam at Shawn’s weight and all. It’s great that she’s encouraging healthy eating but all in all, it is kind of funny how she’ll tweet a sausage link one week and then quinoa/berry juice the next. I had a good laugh at that one myself.
        AND I think we can all agree that if pancakes/waffles or a made-to-order cheese omelet were as healthy as quinoa/berries, we’d choose that over quinoa. That stuff has no taste, but it is healthy. I guess if you pair it with berries and/or honey or something it would be OK. But still, if I didn’t have to worry about fitness/health/calories etc., I’d be all over those chocolate chip pancakes!
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        Mckayla is there too and so is Gabby.l They are in some video with Jared Leto. No mention of Kyla. Hopefully she is training.
      • GymMom Says:
        I’m sure they are in LA to attend a watch party for the Grammy Awards tomorrow night?
      • Biyatch Says:
        Theyre all in LA for the Cartoon Network awards show thing which films today, airs Monday.
  21. GymMom Says:
    I doubt Gabby is in Leto’s music video? He recently tweeted that he was looking for Albinos for the video.
    Jared Leto is not someone I would want my daughters anywhere near. He’s a strange character. I’m surprised Jo got involved with that.
    http://betabeat.com/2013/02/jared-leto-seeks-albinos-on-twitter-for-what-is-bound-to-be-an-award-winning-music-video/
  22. GymMom Says:
    McKayla from the Jared Leto video shoot. According to Leto’s Twitter, he used the Olympians and some real us military personnel in camo clothes…very weird…typical Jared “weirdo” Leto. He also tweeted that “everyone fell in love” with McKayla. Do they realize she is under the age of 18?
    http://instagram.com/p/VhVkvuTBcL/
  23. GymMom Says:
    By the way, if anyone chooses to believe Shawn’a breakfast is unhealthy and/or fattening, that would mean they are beyond stupid! I don’t think we need 15 links because we all have Google. Overkill!!!
  24. GymMom Says:
    And FYI…kind of a waste of time to post the links. I’m sure nobody on here bothered to read them. Most of us are well versed on the subject of nutrition.
  25. exgymgurl Says:
    Hey Im glad to waste my time if it even converts one opionion ( even yours as a joke) that quinoa is gross to the fact that its one of natures best foods. And a lot of people read here that don’t post….. so we have no idea what they think is nutritious or not.
    I would never joke that what she ate was gross, or be a hater when she was actually stating something correct.
    Not everyone has to be gluten free or follow some strict regimen to be healthy People have eaten gluten containing foods for centuries. I doubt most people who read this blog or otherwise are well versed in nutrition, and if there is hope that even one teenager or adult will be more healthy because of a positive link I post about something even if it is about Shawn Johnsons breakfast, I think its worthwhile…. and not all of those are even first page google. Most of them Ive used for other stuff I write about nutrition and health on my own blog elsewhere, ( which I dont link here because I prefer anonymity here) so it was no trouble at all to pull the links. And I think everyone should read the research and form their own opinion, not blindly trust mine…….. or Shawn Johnson…. or yours gymmom….
    And I doubt even that most people know how to google effectively even some that read this blog…..so if I’m going to post an opinion Im going to back it up.
    Its funny because having been involved in corporate marketing and promotional contracts, if I had to guess, Shawn Johnson via her direct tv promotional contract probably had to post a certain number of photos of herself from her trip to New Orleans that reflected the culture, food, nightlife, superbowl etc. Someone may have put that giant hotdog in front of her and odds are she didnt eat it. New Orleans is not known for healthy food…..So like I said before, unless you are the food police watching every bite that goes in her mouth I wouldnt be so quick to judge….Even if she did eat that hotdog most dieticians agree its okay to splurge once a week. Maybe that was her splurge.
    • Case Says:
      Shawn simply cannot do anything right in the eyes of some folks. At this point she could complete the Ironman Triathalon in record time and probably be shredded for her form or something.
      Thanks for posting the links, exgymgurl. I appreciate you!!!
      • Dee Says:
        I appreciate a good linking myself, but all this food talk made me so hungry and confused I ate a Boca Burger and drank a Coke!
        I hope you don’t think less of me 🙂
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        LOL I ate sun chips:)
    • Karlie Says:
      I am one of those people who rarely comments. Although I actually have a background in health/biology, I appreciate your information all the same! I think health information is important and you might as well put it out there for people to see.
      Also, I agree with Case. Some people will never be satisfied. I’m sorry, but although I eat mostly healthy, I still enjoy ice cream, etc. every now and then. I really don’t think it’s a travesty if Shawn wants to eat a sausage every now and then, especially on the Super Bowl…
      • terrigymfan Says:
        I agree. The important thing is moderation IMO. An occasional treat of “unhealthy” is okay so long as you are not doing it all the time.
  26. exgymgurl Says:
    Nice dee…nothing wrong with that….. food is meant to be enjoyed
    ;-D
  27. GymMom Says:
    Looks like Shawn’s 2 fans are regular posters on this blog? Ha ha.
    The reason I follow a specific diet/regimen is because I have a congenital kidney disease. Thanks though.
    The gluten/ wheat we eat today is a far cry from what has been eaten over the centuries because its over-hybridized. Alot of the chronic health problems including obesity are rampant because of it.
    You sure don’t give people much credit presuming we don’t know how to perform a Google search? A monkey can Google probably?
    I find the over-the-top posts defending Shawn hilarious. Thanks for the laughs. Ha ha ha
    Here’s a link I Googled all by myself, regarding how gluten is damaging to all of us.
    The next time the Shawn Johnson fan club meets, could you meet somewhere else? Ha ha ha
      • icemeltsfast Says:
        I flew into DFW a few times. Huge airport. There were about 50 McDonald’s and Starbucks but no Braum’s. ): Is it better than In-n-out, Terri?
      • terrigymfan Says:
        Braum’s is a chain I think mainly in Oklahoma but they have several outposts in the Dallas area and a little south of here. It’s really a full fledged ice cream store where you can get pretty good ice cream, sundaes and all that plus burgers etc. Burgers are good IMO but not as good as In and Out but since it is real ice cream the shakes are way better.
    • Gymbee Says:
      Haha, well I think the fans and the posters who hate on Shawn for whatever she does just balance each other out Gymmom 😉
    • Catherine Says:
      Well if you hate to see people defending Shawn, then stop attacking her. Nobody else brings her up as a subject. Gluten free is not for everyone. I tried it, and it made my IBS a lot worse. It has gone away by itself in my gluten, red meat, carb loaded diet. I have heard more than once that food is less processed here in the EU than the USA due to stricter food laws though, so it is quite probable that white bread here is healthier.
      • terrigymfan Says:
        Maybe GymMom is actually Shawn’s agent or maybe even Shawn herself. I mean there is way more Shawn talk on this blog than there would be without GymMom. You know what they say — no publicity is bad publicity! LOL
      • GymMom Says:
        Yes the food is less processed in the EU. I believe GMO’s(genetically engineered foods) are still banned in most of the EU countries.
      • Guest Says:
        No offending… but I find Gymmom acts like a stalker towards Shawn. And I wonder will she talks something good about her?
    • icemeltsfast Says:
      Whoa hey, Paleo. I’ve been conflicted about this for quite some time. I don’t understand how some say quinoa/couscous/etc supergrains are healthy but Paleo/Primal is against it?? Like, I’ll read articles like the Forbes one that exgymgirl linked and also ones that are written by Robb Wolf, Mark Sisson, etc and just end up utterly confused. ):
      Talk about two competing schools of thought! Have you guys looked more into this? Gymmom, you sound like you almost eat Paleo anyways? Sorry for the spam! I never comment on any websites other than gym-related ones but maybe I should start.
      And I remember watching some clip (a while back, probably when she was still training hardcore?) of Nastia and Valeri cooking together– they were making kebobs? Veggies and meat- no grains/carby stuff in sight. Pretty healthy if you ask me. So I figured that’s common to a gymnast’s diet. Hence, I’m a bit confused about Shawn. She’s an ex-elite GYMNAST. I don’t get why she is tweeting like she just discovered healthy foods recently. I always assumed (perhaps incorrectly?) that elite gymnasts follow quite a strict diet because unlike a lot of other professional athletes, they really need to watch their weight, even muscle weight.
I don’t get why she is tweeting like she just discovered healthy foods recently. I always assumed (perhaps incorrectly?) that elite gymnasts follow quite a strict diet because unlike a lot of other professional athletes, they really need to watch their weight, even muscle weight.
    Jordyn, Aly, McKayla and Gabby attended an awards show last night. Once again, Jordyn’s dress is spot on. I wish I could say the same for the other three… (I really don’t like Aly’s style!)
        I agree. Aly would look so good if she wore something that showed off her figure more, instead of that sack-like dress.
      • gingercrush Says:
        o.o Maroney looks so so so so cheap.
      • GymMom Says:
        Yes I clicked on one of her “keek” videos and she was whining about how hard it is to have to go somewhere when you’re sick? Hello McKayla, welcome to the real world honey! People have to go to work, school, take care of kids etc., no matter how they feel.
        The Cartoon Network “Hall of Game” is a pretty low brow event. I mean who watches the Cartoon Network? My grandson put it on one Saturday afternoon over here & I was surprised at the trash they have on that network. It didn’t stay on long in my house because their programming is definitely not for kids.
        McKayla looked trashy & Aly’s dress was horrible…shapeless. Jo looks likes she dyed her hair darker? Her dress was ok.
      • mimi Says:
        CN was great in the 90s, no idea what it’s like now.
        all the dresses are kinda “meh”.. don’t think they’re trashy, don’t think they are pretty… jo probably looks the best though.
        i SO want to be these girls’ stylists! they all need one.
      • terrigymfan Says:
        Jo looked good and so did Gabby IMO because their dresses show off their slim waistlines. I can’t understand why Aly doesn’t do the same. As for McKayla, it’s not her best. Patterns though don’t reproduce well in photos and videos
      • katecoursey Says:
        Yeah I think Jo looks especially good. Simple, cute, classy, and A-line works for pretty much any body shape.
      • Catherine Says:
        Gabby’s is probably the nicest dress, but because she is soooo teeny tiny it’s a little odd to have it so tight on her. She’d be better off with a dress in the skater cut. McKayla’s dress is just soo meh and does nothing for her. I don’t think it’s trashy but it does look cheap in an actually-cheap-not-slutty-meaning. Aly’s would look great with a slim gold belt tying it in somewhere- she could wear Grecian drape style well. Jo looks fine.
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        I liked Gabby’s dress the best to. What is happening to me:)
      • GymMom Says:
        Nothing wrong with you. It had the best lines & fit.
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        I took that comment back.I am a women I have the right to change my mind:)
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        I take that back. I saw it close up and didn’t like it. (Gabby’s dress) I think I liked Jordyn’s dress the best. I like Aly’s but on her it just doesn’t go and I did not like Mckayla’s at all.
      • katecoursey Says:
        Dude…she competed for weeks on a stress fracture and a badly broken toe that required surgery. I’m pretty sure she’s used to doing things “no matter how she feels.” All elite gymnasts probably are.
      • terrigymfan Says:
        It’s crazy. McKayla took the time after a long day when she was dead tired to do an update video for her fans and she is accused of being a whiner!
        You should check out her latest keek. It’s one of her sister with chocolate on her face. Really cute. I’d put a link to it but I’m on my smartphone.
      • GymMom Says:
        Those videos with her little sister are creepy. Good God there are millions of people who are unemployed, homeless & otherwise hurting. McKayla has no business complaining. If she’s tired, step aside & there are others waiting to take her place. It will be over soon enough. Enjoy your time while it lasts. It’s very unprofessional to whine!
      • Catherine Says:
        They are not creepy at all, they’re just cute. And I don’t see the big deal with her having a moan. Everyone moans sometimes, no matter how approproate it is or not to other people’s suffering. She doesn’t like having to do so much when she’s not feeling well..it’s not as if she’s saying ‘my life is soooo tough, fml, nobody has it as bad as me’.
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        They are a little creepy. The Maroney’s spend way too much time putting their 6 year old on the internet.I did love the sleeping child with candy on her face, that was cute but the one where she is crying because Mckayla is taping her is mean. IMO
      • terrigymfan Says:
        I don’t see how as GymMom says showing a cute pic of your sister with chocolate on her face is disparaging the homeless. McKayla’s family obviously has a decent amount of money, but they are no means filthy rich, nor is she showing off. These tweets and Instagram pics and Keek videos are meant for her legions of fans, most of whom are young girls, not to the homeless (or to make fun of the homeless.) The fact is that is where she lives and she is treating her fans to an “up close and personal” glimpse of her.
        Same is true of the other video where McKayla said she had a long tiring day and just wants to go to bed. That is not whining. It’s just saying, “I’m no different than you and get tired and sick yet have to go out and do things.” Her fans love that because it is really just saying, “I’m just a regular girl like you and we would be friends if we knew each other.” It is way more snooty and off-putting to ignore your fans than to do what McKayla does.
        Agree that some of McKayla’s videos are a bit silly/stupid but by and large I think they are a great thing for her fans. Haven’t seen the one where her sister is crying.
      • Gymbee Says:
        I think her keeks are fun too 🙂 great thing she’s doing for her fans. Whenever I think they are a tad stupid, I remember that she is a 17 year old girl, being spontaneous.
      • sanitynmotion Says:
        I just figured out what a keek was. I must be out of it. Dude McKayla’s kitchen is bigger than my house. Which I should just call a hut now after seeing that kitchen.
      • Dee Says:
        I think “keek” sounds like something you learn about avoiding in freshman health.
        example: ” I have some swelling and itching after hooking up with my ex. What should I do?” “It sounds like he gave you keek, better go to the doctor and get some medicine for that”
      • mimi Says:
        she’s a teenager. it’s practically a given that all teenagers will whinge and whine.
      • sanitynmotion Says:
        I didn’t take offense to her saying she’s tired – she’s normal like the rest of us and her fans probably love the fact she shares so much with them – but I can’t help but feel a bit concerned with all this media stuff that kids/teenagers can use to share their lives. There are way too many creeps out there, is all I’m saying. When I have a kid I seriously don’t want them having a smart phone until they are like 18!
      • terrigymfan Says:
        Yeah, showing pics of the inside of her house does make you wonder. On the one hand it wouldn’t take some creep or stalker two seconds with a few internet searches to figure out where she lives, so you think, “what difference does it make if she shows pics of the inside of her house.” On the other hand I suspect that seeing the personal environment of someone like McKayla might just encourage some weirdo to actually do something rather than just have creepy thoughts. I know it is different but I keep thinking of the Elizabeth Smart situation. I’m thinking that it was the fact that guy was around her house a lot doing work, and saw her repeatedly where she lived, that finally got him excited him enough to turn thoughts into action. Scary no matter what.
      • sanitynmotion Says:
        I know – all it takes is some crazed freak to get some smarts and figure out where she lives. There are risks to being so “open” with your fan base, unfortunately. That shot where McKayla was basically pouring her boobs out of that dress was so bad. I wish her mom would monitor what she puts out there.
    Gymmom – I’m not sure if Jo did dye her hair or that it only appeared that way because of color editing.
    I don’t understand why Aly keeps wearing these shapeless dresses, and McKayla REALLY loves showing off her ‘girls’.
    • GymMom Says:
      Thanks Jo looks better in this photo. McKayla is still a trainwreck.
    • sanitynmotion Says:
      This is must my opinion…Jo got it right on down to the hair. McKayla’s hair looks great but that’s where it stops. She shouldn’t wear those patterned dresses. Gabby’s dress is great – but is she wearing a wig? And Aly – where do I start. Trash bag garments are only “in” for pregnant people, and you are far from it. Show off your awesome figure while you have it because you’ll be kicking yourself over this when you’re 40…(no offense to 40-year-olds).
      They all look great (fit) for it being 6 months out of the Olympics. They still look like little fit gymnasts. Good for all of them, actually.
    Anyone watched any Winter Cup videos? I saw Danell Leyva on the high bar debuting his piked Kovacs. Cool move, but is it me not knowing much about men’s gymnastics or is his form awful?
