Aly Raisman, Boston sports person of the year?

You can vote. I voted for Aly and I laugh at the names on this list. Ha.

Make sure you vote for Aly because golden boy Brady will pass her if the Patriots fans get their wish.

Dear Patriots, We LOST the Superbowl. Brady deserves NOTHING.

I KNOW, right? Brady lost the Superbowl TWICE. Even after a year where the Patriots were killing everyone else.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Brady is an idiot. I honestly hate him. If I admitted that in Boston Patriots nation would kill but I hate hypocrites and Brady is one. He is a great QB but I hate him as a person. I actually don’t like half the team but I have to root for the shirt.

  2. sanitynmotion Says:

    …and p.s., go Vikings!

  3. Catherine Says:

Totally Aly, 3 Olympic medals is an awesome feat. Especially since I don’t know anyone else on the list.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

You don’t know who Tom Brady is???

      • catherine Says:

Only from you mentioning. I get that he plays baseball or eh American of those. There’s no interest in either across the pond. Although we did host the opening game..between Notre Dame and someone.

    • icemeltsfast Says:

I find it awesome that you don’t know who Tom or Kevin are. I only know Tom because he’s supposed to be the hottest NFL player (I find Brett Favre better looking tbh) + dates/dated/idk Gisele Bundchen. I know Kevin because I used to watch NBA games back when the Lakers were still good! And back when Kevin was with the Timberwolves.. is he any good with the Celtics?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Garnett is old, completely slowed down and a shell of his former self. He was the best player in the NBA a few years ago but he is not as good anymore.

  4. terrigymfan Says:

I voted for Aly. I am not knowledgable enough about the Boston sports scene to vote for anybody else except I do know Brady doesn’t seem to be having that great of a year. Aly is winning so far I noticed.

Sanity did you grow up in Minnesota?

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Brady is actually having a great year but he is still an ass.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

My husband’s family is from Minnesota, so he’s got me hooked on the Minnesota teams.🙂 Plus so far as I know they don’t have (that many) assholes on them.

I’m from So-Cal – I’m an Angels fan but haven’t paid attention to baseball in awhile because the Angels are starting to remind me of the Yankees, and I really hate the Yankees.

I do like the Lakers though – even though they suck this year.

I agree GTT Brady is an a-hole.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Cut the Angels some slack in that area. In order to win you have to pay the great players. Its the way the sport works these days.

You can’t compete with the Yankees unless you do and now the Dodgers.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Every team has assholes. The Twins and Vikings aren’t that successful so you just don[t hear the stupid things they say but the better a team gets the bigger jerks their players become.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Haha yeah that’s true. Brett Favre ended up showing his true colors, didn’t he.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Brett was a product of his over inflated ego. Aren’t all sports stars now a days????

      • terrigymfan Says:

Brett wound up showing a lot more than just his true colors. LOL

I see the Angels signed Josh Hamilton. I hope they can afford a bunch of full time babysitters. A lot of us Rangers fans were growing tired of his act.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

The season before last after a game in Boston a fan asked him for his autograph while he was standing outside his hotel and he threw a fit at the fan and called him all kinds of names for asking him for his autograph. Apparently he was waiting for a cab to do be with his wife but how the hell is some guy on the street supposed to know this.

What did he do in Texas to piss them off? IMO he was probably on drugs or drunk at that point. The guy might be a great player but has a huge personality issue.

      • terrigymfan Says:

It’s not so much that Hamilton has been a jerk to fans – I actually hear he’s good about spending extra time signing autographs for kids and all that — it’s just that it always seems he’s having a relapse with his alcohol problem or is at least one step away. And this is with the team paying for someone to be with him 24/7 to make sure he doesn’t start drinking again. He reminds me of a little kid really. Plus he goes into hitting slumps a lot. I am always amazed at what these baseball teams are willing to pay some of these players. He’s getting 25 million a year for five years from the Angels and IMO he is not even that good and comes with a lot of baggage.

  5. Case Says:

    Voted for Aly.

I can’t stand Brady either. Ever since he ditched his pregnant girlfriend for the lingerie model I’ve had a bad taste in my mouth about him. (Spare me the timeline arguments cause IDAGF.). Lol.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

In his defense he dumped her first than found out she was pregnant and there were all kinds of rumors of her getting knocked up on purpose plus I hate that biatch. She’s from Boston and she named her kid three names that spelled out J-E-T and you must know how I feel about the The other day Brady said his son is a Jets fan because of her initials and don’t think she didn’t do that on purpose.

      • Case Says:

I’m sure he gravitated to Gisele because of her stunning personality. He’s an incredibly shallow mofo.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I think she looks like a The other one he dumped was much prettier IMO

      • icemeltsfast Says:

I find it hilarious if that’s really the case.. so manipulative! Wiki says “John’s middle names are Brady’s own first and middle names in reverse order, while Moynahan’s father’s first name is Edward.” But I guess the first initial didn’t have to be “J.” lol
Also, Brady & Gisele have been married since 2009– I guess I’ve been living under a rock. They have 2 kids: Benjamin Rein Brady & Vivian Lake Brady. LOL Can you say hipster middle names?

  6. Biyatch Says:

Does anyone who follows the level 10/JO scene know anything about Khazia Hislop from Brestyans? Was watching a video on gymnastike ( ) and was pretty impressed. Very different style than the typical Mihai girl. More flexibility then Aly & ASac combined, actually makes the stupid leap out of passes look good. Google search revealed that she was born in 1998 and once was a WOGA-bot. Anyone know the deets?

    • JAS4 Says:

I don’t know anything about her but she has potential is she going to try for elite this year?

      • sainabou nyang Says:

I heard alexandra mcmurtry scored a perfect ten on vault at the Chesapeake meet. I remember her from NL cup and how marts had invited her to the ranch.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        The vault is on gymnastike

    • DL Says:

Ooh she does make the leap out of passes look good!

  7. exgymgurl Says:

she looks awesome. Maybe she got her flexibility at WOGA….She is probably one that will emerge.

  8. exgymgurl Says:

She has that long line body type…..beautiful. Lets hope she can get more difficulty.

  9. exgymgurl Says:

I really want to see her bars…. she was with WOGA until 2009 so she might have some swing…

  10. exgymgurl Says:

aly has like 74% of the vote…..

    • terrigymfan Says:

I’m impressed with Boston sports fans! Honestly I didn’t think that the great masses of sports fans in a city would vote for a gymnast (even though she is a home grown hero) over an NFL star quarterback.

      • Biyatch Says:

my guess is the results have less to do with the general boston sports fans and more to do with the gymternet/ lots of teens and tweens in love with aly if i had to guess. aly tweeted about the poll.

      • icemeltsfast Says:

Oh this was posted in IGF’s US appreciation thread if that means anything. And I haven’t checked, but Biyatch is right– I’m pretty sure it would have been floating around tumblr with a million reblogs as usual.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Aly was always winning this poll. Before the reblogs and stuff it was no near where the %

  11. terrigymfan Says:

    Did anybody see this?

    • Case Says:

Yes! WTH is up with that? Is $6k per day the going rate for a day with a 44 year old former Olympian?

      • terrigymfan Says:

I was a runner growing up. Suzy Favor is a really big name in the running world. This is quite shocking but you never know what lives these famous athletes or former athletes are secretly leading.

  12. Biyatch Says:

While procrastinating earlier I was looking at the USAG site… the new selection committee for worlds teams is the National Coordinator (Marta), the Director of Elite Athlete Development (Valeri) and the athlete rep. Now unless we all missed something Valeri is going to have athletes vying for spots on those teams. 1. Conflict of interest much and 2. How is Valeri supposed to join Marta and whoever the athlete rep is on the all seeing dais if he is out on the floor coaching? Just when you thought USAG couldn’t get any shadier…

    • JAS4 Says:

I thought Nastia was the Athlete rep? Guess Nastia now really does control USAG if you have her, Marta, and Valeri choosing teams lol!

    • sanitynmotion Says:

That is insane. Any other sport you’d have people in screaming matches over this obvious conflict of interest. So now if your athlete isn’t involved with WOGA or if you as a coach aren’t into ass-kissing the whole Karolyi regime, there will be even less of a shot for her to make any major international teams, much less the Olympics (which is the way it pretty much was before, but now it’s even worse that a head coach of a major gym is part of the group to choose which athletes are selected for major meets). At the very least, Valerie should step down from coaching at WOGA if he is to assume this position. And he should not have a say with all WOGA athletes for at least 5 years.

This is basically the Karolyis holding up their monopoly over the sport via recruiting their “proteges” and possibly knowing they do have to retire/die eventually. If I were a gym owner/coach I’d be screaming over this (Chow? Brestyan? Fong? Zmeskal/Burdette?) – they all need to grow some balls and do away with this stupid shit. It’s only hurting the sport and the athletes.

      • mim Says:

omg, honestly how are they pulling these stunts? I agree, the other coaches need to rally together because why should WOGA get to be the puppet masters in all of this?

  13. nero Says:

Geddert says Jo wants to continue….

“Its my birthday and the world was supposed to end, now that would have been a unique birthday present. Instead I got one that is much better, actually one of my favorite gifts ever. Jordyn informed me that she wants to start training again seriously and intends to compete at Championships in August. One step at a time of course, but what a great birthday present. Have to say I am a bit geeked about this….”

I’m really glad she wants to continue. A little R&R was probably good for her, I really really hope we get to see her at another Worlds.

    • sainabou nyang Says:

Whoops I didn’t see your post Nero. Lol

    • sanitynmotion Says:

So happy Jordyn wants to come back and end her career on hopefully a more positive note than “I didn’t make the AA at the Olympics.”

Although I’m sure Marta is plotting a way to keep Jordyn out of the major meets, a la Shawn Johnson’s comeback.

  14. sainabou nyang Says:

Just saw an article on tue Examiner website that Jordyn is in for 2013. There’s a quote from John Geddert that Jordyn plans to compete st visas next year.

    • Guest Says:

Didn’t Jordyn plan to go to Teen Choice Tour with Gabby and Aly? I have seen the tour will be ended in March. Resuming training in 5 months is too short. I think planning for 2014 is more realistic if she plans to train again after the tour.

      • nero Says:

She’ll probably just do bars and beam, I’m sure she realizes she probably wont make Worlds 2013 but just competing again would be a huge accomplishment.

I actually think just focusing on those 2 would be great for Jo in the long run because those are the 2 she needs to work on the most. Aim for the AA in 2014 and slowly build up difficulty if she really wants to try for Rio

      • sainabou nyang Says:

I wonder what Gedderts strategy will be for Jordyn in 2013. Shouldshe compete as an AA or specialist? Never thoughtI would call Jordyn a specialist and not an AA. If Im Geddert and the focus is worlds I would have Jordyn train for beam, floor, and maybe vault.

Btw I read somewhere the USAG will be competing next year in Italy and Germany? Italy I figured they were referring to Jesolo. But Germany I wonder if its a another world cup event or friendly meet.

      • Biyatch Says:

Germany is a friendly meet. I believe Romania is supposed to be there too.

If Jordyn fits into the World picture at all I could maybe see her just focusing on maybe beam and floor (which would be the same as Aly if she’s coming back for 2013.) Someone like Ebee could balance her well then if she did bars and vault. Alicia started training at the end of February for Visas at the beginning of June. I guess it’s conceivable that Jo/Aly could be ready in time if full training started in the middle of March for Championships in the middle of August. If they both are back and both in contention, I see it being for the same spot however.

  15. mim Says:

most of you (myself included) will be pleased. gymnewstics reporting gabby is definitely not training in 2013!

(hope this isn’t old news! ive been out of it with gymnastics news for the last couple weeks!)

    • mim Says:

      • terrigymfan Says:

Did you notice Marta’s comments? Almost sounded like a slap at Nastia. Probably directed at Memmel though.

Can anybody think of a gymnast who took off an entire year and a half and mounted a successful comeback?

      • Guest Says:

ASac resume training after a year off “retirement” and cameback quite successfully. If Gabby really wants to comeback (not like somebody’s half-ass one) she should consider to resume training in one year after Olympics.

But history told that no AA gold medalist competed the next Olympic since Nadia Comaneci and also no US women gymnast competed the next Olympic since 2000.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I disagree that Alicia was successful. She did not get floor which kept her being named to that Olympic team. She needed to comeback earlier than a year. The reason she got hurt on floor was because she was not in good enough shape.

      • sainabou nyang Says:

I saw them and I hate to say it but shes right. You can’t half ass a comeback. Whether you love Gabby or not if she decides to come back for Rio she needs to ditch the Hollywood lifestyle, get in shape, upgrade her routines, and hit at every meet. But knowing Marta Gabby will get the same treatment as Nastia.

      • JAS4 Says:

Terri I agree her comments did sound like a slap at Nastia although I agree she may have intended them as a slap at one of the other 08 girls even though they were all back in the gym seriously before Nastia but then again maybe Marta is mad at Nastia right now because she couldn’t hit one bar routine so she could put her on the team and name Valeri as coach lol

      • Guest Says:

At least ASac make the Worlds Team twice after comeback and won 10 Worlds medals in career (though she didn’t participate in her 10th medal match actually). I would say she is still successful even though she didn’t make the spot of London (and I think she should have been an alternate of London Team).

    • GymMom Says:

      Interesting comments from Chow?

    • DL Says:

I don’t think she’ll go back to training until the endorsement money runs out. I’ve never had the impression that she loves gymnastics or competing or being part of a team. She’s like Lindsay Lohan: talented, but in it because her family wants to live off of her–it’s not sustainable, and she’ll end up as tabloid fodder.

      • GymMom Says:

Gabby & her family have already been in the tabloids. I predict there will be more of that!

        Chow sounded disconnected from her?

      • Lithi Says:

As much as I hate to say it, I have a bad feeling about Gabby. I wonder by the time Rio comes around we’re going to hear about family members misappropriating funds, possible lawsuits. She may make Moceanu’s nuttery look tame.

        Just a hunch.

      • mim Says:

i always felt like chow coached gabby well and very much appreciated her talent but never actually LIKED her. it’s more so a hunch or just a feeling I get when I read his interviews or see their interaction.

  16. JAS4 Says:

    This is too cute lol!
