While I was sleeping

Aly signed another endorsement deal with Pandora Jewelry. I love their braclets but the prices are ridiculous. Not sure how this endorsement is good for the company since Aly’s fans aren’t rich enough to buy this stuff but it is still good for her.

Aly will also be honored in Florida for being Jewish
, something she had no control over.lol but okay.

Now in news having nothing to do with Gymnastics a shout out to Miguel Cabrera for winning the triple crown in baseball, something that has not been done in over 30 years (I still love you Yaz:)

I like this picture and this picture. 🙂

I am sorry I have had some sad non related gym news on this site lately but I have to do another one that made me cry (yes I have feelings:) I remember reading about this baseball player having a baby the night his team clinched a playoff birth and when I saw the Yahoo headline the first thing I thought of was his baby.

And in Gymnastics news someone sent me this diddy from Morgan Dennis’s facebook. Think about this next time you get in a car.

Morgan Dennis
I just want to share this with my friends and hopefully people will pause, step back, and think about how precious life is.

On Tuesday night, I was driving to Atlanta to stay with some family friends before catching a flight to NY Wednesday morning. Unfortunately, things did not go as planned and I got into a very bad car accident. I was on a 2 lane road in Douglasville, GA. The car in front of me stopped suddenly causing me to slam on my brakes, I swerved into oncoming traffic and was hit by a tractor trailer on my driver side. I was not wearing my seat belt and was thrown into the passenger seat upon impact. THANK GOD, I was able to escape with only some burns and bruises. I kicked out my passenger door and was able to walk away, literally. It was by the grace of God that I survived and I am truly thankful to be alive right now.

I hope I can inspire the people who read this not to take life for granted and always wear your seatbelt! I had
an extremely bad habit of not wearing mine, but Lord knows, from now on I will! I want to thank the O’Neal’s (Gary & Helen) for being so wonderful to me, coming out to the accident site and getting some things out of my car while I was at the hospital, staying with me in the hospital all night, doing everything to make sure I was okay and even helping me decide whether or not I should catch my flight to NY just a few hours later (believe it or not, I was still trying to go to NY). I stayed with them and they also drove me to Alabama last night where we met up with Jill Pruitt Lancaster, who drove me back to Tuscaloosa. And I can’t forget my baby sis Hunter Alexandra Dennis who took awesome care of me once I got back!

I am so grateful to everyone who was here for me and cared for me over the past few days. The phone calls, texts, and everything else were so appreciated. Words can’t express how much I thank you and love you all! I am so blessed!

I enjoyed the irony of Gabby receiving a Pandora bracelet from the mayor of VB last week but Pandora signed Aly a week later.

AND…drumroll please…Gabby strikes again and pisses off the gamers! “I am not a gamer” turns out wasn’t a good catch phrase for Nintendo to use in its latest marketing campaign! #EPICFAIL

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Not really Gabby’s fault.lol but I do find it ironic everything she touches turns to mush.

      • GymMom Says:

The fact that she is not a “gamer” is reason enough not to use her for marketing gaming products isn’t it?

    • terrigymfan Says:

Is the idea of this ad campaign that playing Nintendo doesn’t necessarily mean you are one of those nerdy persons obsessed with playing Nintendo (which I guess is what a “gamer” is)? If so that is one dumb idea for an ad campaign. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you!

Probably the same ad geniuses who came up with the idea for the campaign thought Gabby would be a good spokesperson. Dumb idea Number 2.

  2. Lissa Says:

To be fair, “Jewish” is both a race and a religion. Aly does have a choice in the latter. Also, why do you say Aly’s fans can’t afford Pandora?

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Because they are 12.lol Pandora beads cost like 80 plus bucks a bead. The math on a braclet would be like 600 bucks.

    • GymMom Says:

I have a Pandora Bracelet and they are pricey, especially for younger girls to afford. But then so are American Girl dolls and accessories. One of my daughters had an American Girl doll. I have it and the whole kit and kaboodle in storage.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Girls with American dolls probably get them from family and friends. Who can afford 600 dollars for a gift?

      • GymMom Says:

        Yes agreed on both counts.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

My spoiled nieces have those dolls and they are stuffed away somewhere. Kind of makes me sick.

      • exgymgurl Says:

My girls have american girl dolls read the books and play with them every day. The AG dolls cost about $100 and my girls make accessories for them out of shoe boxes, old sheets, handkerchiefs etc. They read the historical books, but we dont have a ton of the AG accessories. When people see their AG dolls they are like why are they not on a shelf, and I say MY GIRLS ACTUALLY PLAY WITH THEM. Between my two girls they have 4 AG dolls and its WAY LESS $$ than you spend on 10 bratz dolls or 10 barbies or barbies neutroceutical malibu dream pool party accessory kit. They arent spoiled, its pretty much all they will get for Christmas or their birthday one thing. But its one thing that gets played with EVERY DAY all their clothes are changed and their hair is styled wierd. These dolls are WELL LOVED. My family and friends have not bought any AG stuff for my girls. Sorry but not everyone that has AG dolls is completely spoiled, as my girls arent I save$$ and they dont have tons of Barbies or other toys because this is what they have chosen.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Oh – I’m not saying that everyone who has those dolls are spoiled. I was just commenting that my nieces (who are entirely way too spoiled) have a bunch of them and they never play with them because they have so many other things to play with. I once opened a toy chest at the end of their beds and saw two AG dolls smushed in there with a bunch of other stuff. I was sad because I was thinking how many kids that don’t have the access to funds these girls have would LOVE these dolls and cherish them and actually get use out of them, yet here are my nieces shoving them somewhere. I almost want to ask my sister to give me them and I’ll find some kids who would love them.

      • terrigymfan Says:

Hah. I remember my mom sent American Girl dolls to my daughters for Christmas one year when they were about 5 and 7. I was against it because I thought they were way too expensive for girls that age. The next thing I know my daughters brought the dolls to me after playing with them for awhile. They had undone the hair on the dolls and attempted to straighten it out and “restyle” it — of course absolutely ruining those expensive dolls!

  3. Case Says:

Haven’t had much time to post but I did want to thank you GTT for acknowledging the Triple Crown. Your blog trumps ESPN.

In other news, Jordyn Wieber’s brother Ryan was signed by a modeling agency. Good for him!

  4. GymMom Says:

Gabby is going to “appear” on an episode of Disney Channel’s Shake It Up….”a really stupid show”(according to my 8 year old grandson)

    • exgymgurl Says:

My girls love that show. It is a show that is mostly geared at girls. Thats probably why he doesnt like it. If justin Bieber is on it, it definitely isnt geared toward boys.

  5. Lis Says:

About Aly being recognized by the Jewish organization – we get really proud when one of our own is in the spotlight, especially in sports, because it doesn’t happen all that often. Jews are only 2.1% of the population in the U.S.

  6. JAS4 Says:

I am glad Aly is being recognized and getting endorsements! But I really hope she decides to return to gymnastics but I don’t know if that will happen. I would like to see her really work on her bars and some of her form issues! If she could spend a few months at a gym with a really good bars coach I think it could do wonders for her!

    • exgymgurl Says:

I dont think Aly will return any longer than it helps her get more endorsement $$. Reason being is that she like Shawn, Nastia and Alicia all make good $$ with a variety of endorsements. She doesnt need to go to Rio, and will only stay in the sport if financially it makes sense. Realistically what more could Aly Raisman accomplish? 3 medals and an almost bronze in AA is a lot more than what ANYONE expected out of her. I doubt her bars can improve significantly enough to make her a factor in 2016 with Amanars being downgraded. Before even with not the best Amanar she was able to make up ground for bars. Not so much for the new code. The only one that may benefit from the new code is Kyla if she can upgrade floor. I believe the only reason she did not upgrade floor is because she did not have time to make the upgrades consistent. Kyla was put on the team for consistency and backup, kind of like Samantha Peszeck. Shes a much better gymnast than Samantha but Marta didnt need monster routines or numbers from her. Her number was the safe number, and at 15 if she wanted to make the team she needed to do as she was told.

The key to this quad will be consistent improvement. I think Marta will look more for the Aly Raismans that keep getting better and can consistently do more. I honestly dont think Kyla is where she could be in four years if she stays in elite. She could improve as much as Aly did and really be a force in 2016.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I think Aly has accomplished the most she can expect to accomplish to be honest (so I totally agree with you). If she did make a comeback attempt I could see her being left behind easily because of her bad form on bars. As it was she kind of lucked out almost making podium in the AA, especially with that mistake on beam. If Jinnan and Iordache had been healthy I don’t think she would have been close.

Of the Fierce Five, Aly is actually the one that I wouldn’t mind not seeing ever again (sorry to say that). Her gymnastics never really excited me – except her floor tumbling of course. I think McKayla has the potential to be a really great all arounder – she is capable of great beam sets and with some more work on bars, her form is clean enough for her to be a true contender. Kyla as I’ve said has yet to reach her potential. I even think Gabby still has more to give (higher bar start values, cleaner beam, better floor choreo). Jordyn I’m unsure about – she needs to give up those stupid beam connections and she could still be a force too.

      • sainabou nyang Says:

Im hoping Kyla has a career similar to Shannon Miller in terms of competing at two Olympics and scooping up some World titles and Olympic medals. If she returns next year I still have tue feeling that Marta will pit her against Katelyn. I’m not sold on Katelyn just yet. I still see her as a beam/bar specialist.

      • catherine Says:

Yes I think Katelyn has a 50/50 chance of remaining a viable aa-er. As a specialist, no better person to use for beam in worlds next year and bars also.

      • sainabou nyang Says:

What is Katelyn currently vaulting? A DTY?

      • Biyatch Says:

The thing is, of the 5 Aly probably *needs* the money the least. She comes from a well-off, well educated upper class family. While her continuing in the sport through the next quad would help keep the endorsements coming, she seems to have the family support that she’s not going to dependent on endorsement money for the rest of her life. From what we’ve heard she seems she genuinely wants to continue because she still likes doing it. She talked about wanting to add a second vault– I could see her trying to pick up the Rudi. We won’t really know how the new code shakes out until 2014 IMO.

Katelyn vaulted a 1.5 day 1 of visas and a super scary DTY day 2.

      • Catherine Says:

Aly just does not give off a vibe of being ‘done’. I get it off Jordyn a bit but she could still surprise. The other 3 are still in the mix, for future worlds. Rio…doubt it.

      • Catherine Says:

Katelyn’s DTY is awful, something seriously wrong with the block. Why she was allowed do it when she couldn’t get any of them around in podium training..

Anyway, we haven’t seen her since at anything so it could have been a temporary problem with a mistimed growth spurt.

  7. catherine Says:

Yes send aly to woga. Sarah and mckayla too. Send Katelyn and Kyla to aogc and lexie and gabby to gage.

I thought the whole point of a Pandora bracelet is to build it up over time. So I think its a great gift for a 12 yo. Charms here start at 30 which is about 45 dollars. The bracelet is 100ish so 140 dollars. Maybe its just cheaper here. Id be surprised, normally other way around.

    • exgymgurl Says:

I dont want anyone going to WOGA. It did nothing for Ivana Hong. I dont want anyone going to GAGE either as his gymnasts consistently end up broken. Keep them with their own coaches, and Mihai just needs to bring in a bars specialist, and figure out a way around the Massachussets laws hes always complaining about. Maybe move the gym or have a satellite facility in New Hampshire or Rhode Island.

      • Catherine Says:

Nah not literally move, moreso ‘get these girls the specialty from this gym’. CGA is going to be the one with the ‘we break gymnasts’ speciality again, they have two of the best elites.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

It’s not that cheap here.lol Not even close

  8. exgymgurl Says:

Pandora bracelets are expensive, but as a mom, Aly Raisman appeals to other moms who want their daughters to act and look a certain way, as does Jordyn Wieber. They are both well spoken and not trying to be overtly sexy or arrogant. Moms will buy those bracelets for their daughters just like moms buy AG dolls. And yes my daughters dolls have messed up hair, but they keep playing with them.

Most girls barbie dolls only last a few months before the hair or the head is not looking so great…

    • sanitynmotion Says:

I used to pull the heads off of my Barbie dolls…then I’d put them back on, but the necks were basically broken so all of my dolls eventually were neck-less…kind of funny.

      • terrigymfan Says:

Sanity you sound like that kid from one of those Toy Story movies. You know the sadistic kid who terrorized all the toys by blowing them up, pulling their heads off, etc.

  9. sainabou nyang Says:

I was reading this on Triple Full but according to them this girl is doing big skills and trying to move into elite next year. Im not familiar with the level gymnasts. Has anyone heard of this girl?

  10. JAS4 Says:

    ASac’s bars Nationals 2006
    D: 5.5 E: 8.950

I was YouTube surfing and came across this old video of ASac’s bars and they really weren’t that bad ( better than Aly’s in my opinion) if she had a D score closer to 6ish range she could have probably scored high 14s low 15s. When she couldn’t train anything else after her injury it might have been a good idea for her to train bars again (they would have probably been better than Nastia’s few weeks of training bars lol) she probably still wouldn’t have made the team but she would have had a better chance and probably been an alternate

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Aly worked hard to fix her handstands between 2009 and 2012 and I think Alicia would have done the same thing if she had kept bars. That routine was very cautious and she missed every handstand like EXgymgurl said but she seemed to keep her legs and feet together much better then Aly did.

In the last quad Alicia was capable of high 15’s on 3 events, vault, beam and floor if she had kept bars I could see her being an AA gymnast but she would have had to have worked on those handstands a lot.

  11. exgymgurl Says:

Marta told Alicia not to train bars…and I dont think that routine is anywhere near the 6 ish range. Im surprised she got an 8.95 E score, she never hit a handstand. Her release was LOW. Its muscled. The only good thing is the toe point. The dismount is too simple. She is obviously not a bar worker. In this quad that would have scored like a 12 internationally.

  12. exgymgurl Says:

BTW I think GTT was right, I think that Martas grand plan all along was to have Nastia back, and not to have to use Kyla or put her on the team. That is why Marta kept Kylas floor so basic and did not approve or encourage upgrades for her anywhere. Kyla was not the plan, Kyla was the backup plan. Problem is Nastia did not get to where she could do a Kip. Plan was Nastia to do bars and beam, and McKayla Floor and Vault.

Marta doesnt worry about having a fourth in qualifying, she takes the three best routines on each aparatus, and thats really all she cares about.

Marta also did not need Kyla to vault an amanar. Kyla was only the backup plan to Nastia, and when Nastia failed, Kyla was the alternate. I’m not bagging on Kyla here at all, she did awesome, and earned the spot. I think Marta would have preferred to take Nastia, and had no interest in taking Chellsie at all.

I have been thinking a lot about the way that Kyla and Alicia were handled up to the olympics. Alicia was the backup for McKayla, and if she had had floor she probably would have been the alternate. Its so tough with only 5 gymnasts.

Sad thing is I dont think Bross was ever under consideration because she never came back with consistency.

  13. GymMom Says:

Nice photo of Aly at the Pandora Jewelry Store. I wonder if they’ll come up with a gymnastics charm now?

  14. sainabou nyang Says:

This was too funny. Sorry I couldn’t link just the clip but I’m doing it from my phone.

Go down to the clip where the kelloggs cast is first learning to shuffle and you’ll see Nastia trying to learn it and giving up. Then look at Rebecca Bross who dancing and probably secretly laughing at her. Lol
