New Mckayla and Kyla article

Interesting info in this article. Enjoy the read:)

Mckayla’s parents have not hired bodyguards and she is in talks to be on several TV shows.

Kyla’s parents asked her if she would like to go pro but she would rather return to a normal life (Pretty grown up decision and the correct one IMO for a 15 year old kid.)

“When I got back to New York, my parents asked me about” turning professional and pursuing lucrative endorsement deals, Ross said. “But I just sort of liked the life I have now. Doing all the media and stuff is fun but I’m not the kind of person who likes (the attention). It’s not really my personality. I enjoy sort of having a normal life. That’s sort of how I think of it.”

Mckayla’s pretty impressive response to the criticism of her unimpressed look.

If I was smiling they would say why is she smiling?” Maroney said. “She just got the silver medal. And if I was crying. They would be why is she crying? She needs to be happy about that. So no matter what you do not everybody is going to be happy with it. And just kind of the way it is when you’re in this environment.”

and my favorite comment of the article.

“What will you be wearing Thursday night?” a reporter for a television entertainment new program asked Ross, Maroney and Douglas, the Olympic all-around champion, at a Staples Center press conference where they were announcing the musical acts that will be appearing at MTV Video Music Awards two days later.

Ross was caught off guard by the question.

“Umm, a dress?” she said.

    lol Parent 101. I agree. I haven’t read the article yet but this is what I love about Kyla. She has the potential to be the next Shannon Miller. I totally would have thought she’d be in the AA 6 to 8 months ago with Jordyn, but her growth spurt caught me off guard (and her resistance to up her D scores…and Gabby’s overscoring in general). So – I hope she kills it next quad, goes to Rio, and beats ASac’s record for most world medals.

    Sounds like McKayla will end up being a washed up television star. I hope not. She still has so much potential, but I guess I can’t fault her for wanting to go Hollywood. That’s where the serious money is anyways.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

      Mckayla is the new Sasha Cohen.lol I hope she has more talent than that

      • sanitynmotion Says:

        Yeah, me too. And let’s hope that her sit-down at the Olympics was a fluke and not a sign of things to come (actually Maroney’s individual Olympic performance was very much like a Cohen performance – mess up righteously on the second/final performance when you almost had the medal in the bag)…

      • Kazic Says:

        GTT don’t you dare insult MM that way lol. Ugh can’t stand Sasha and those wobbly knees. I spent her whole comeback biting my nails praying she wouldn’t make the Olympic team. Because if she didn’t fall in Quals we all know she would have fallen in Vancouver. And then I would have had a massive case of RAGE lolz

        .When she didn’t make the Olympic team, I actually wrote a blog entitled, “thanks for falling Sasha.” Not kidding lol. I hope Maroney can get back in the gym to train the TTY.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        LOL, You are right. It was a little mean of me to compare the two. Sasha is a useless human being and the most overrated skater of all time. Maroney is a one event gymnast.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

        I hope she debuts the TTY too. I’m still kind of mad at her for sitting that second vault though lol. USA dominated vault in 2009, 2010, and 2011 and then lost at the Olympics when it really matters most (or at least – when more people are paying attention). And it would have been well deserved too.

        Basically I hate it when someone wins gold only because the “better” person choked.

        Still on the fence about Gabby/Komova. Komova would have had her gold if not for that vault. I think maybe I’ll blame the code here for making the amanar a necessity in 2012. But then again, there’s also blame for those damn beam judges. I still think Gabby was gifted that AA placement. It should have been Jordyn and Aly, I don’t care what anyone says. Gabby’s mistakes were WAY worse and should have been further deducted in quals.

      • Kazic Says:

        GTT at least Maroney has the potential to be more than a one event gymnast. Sasha will never be anything except overrated.

        Sanity I agree with you about the VT. Izbasa is pretty legit though.

        As far as the AA does, I have come to the conclusion that the way things happened was probably the best outcome, if you want an American champion. The way Jordyn was bring scored, she would have lost to Komova. Gabby was our best shot, and she had an amazing day. MY ideal two to make (AA) based on odds to win, would have been Jo and Gabby. But part of me doesn’t like that either, because Aliya would have probably been knocked of the podium, and I dig her.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        Sasha had potential except when it came to jumping. Who needs to jump to be an ice skater.

        I wanted a DESERVING WINNER. That is all anyone should have cared about.

      • Kazic Says:

        Lol I’m telling you GTT, it’s those knobbly knees. They are a plague. Basically in my brain anyone who was skating at the same time as the Kween is a pretender to the throne, as it were.

        Gabby was deserving. On that day she was the best. She may not win any popularity contests, but this isn’t the Miss America competition.

        If any argument could be made against her, it’s that she shouldn’t have placed ahead of Jo in quals. And that isn’t her fault. Multiple people share blame for that one. Personally, I feel that if they aren’t going to dump the 2 per country rule FIG should allow the reigning World Champion an automatic berth into the final, apart from their country’s qualifiers. To me it’s appalling that the World Champion didn’t get a chance to defend her crown, when she came in fourth. It’s not like she tanked her routines.

  2. terrigymfan Says:

    Both of these girls are very polished annd savvy when answering questions with the media, especially given their age. Did you notice how, when Mckayla was discussing how somebody would have criticized her no matter how she reacted to winning silver, she said that’s just the way it goes when you are “in this environment.” It would have been easy to say “when you are a celebrity” or a “star” or “famous” or something like that, but that would have sounded arrogant. Gabby could take a lesson from these two.

    I also thought Erin came across well in this interview. Not nearly the superficial bimbo I think some people think she is. She might consider telling Mckayla to dress a little more modestly though if she is so worried about people thinking about her in a sexual way.

  3. terrigymfan Says:

    I also couldn’t help laughing when Erin said she couldn’t believe how everybody on the blogs talk about every last detail of these girls’ lives. She’s talking about us you know! She’s basically saying we all losers and need to get a life. LOL. Notice though that she had to be reading the blogs to know what is on them, so she must find all this interesting too.

    • mim Says:

      haha i know, i thought that as well. im on sabbatical until february, so i HAVE no life right now mrs maroney!

      maybe she fights a losing battle with mckayla’s choice of clothes/internet posing. im not a parent but i’ve been a 16 year old girl before.. can’t be easy to mother one of those lol.

      • GymMom Says:

        Pretty tough to try and convince a 16 year old girl to dress more conservatively. I raised 2 daughters. LOL!

    • JAS4 Says:

      I thought the same thing if she is that aware of it she must be seeking out the blogs and chats herself lol

  4. GymMom Says:

    Meanwhile, Gabby was on the set of Vampire Diaries with her “family?” When do Gabby’s sisters work or go to school?

    • Case Says:

      They obviously don’t. Gabby is in the exact same situation as some of the NFL and NBA rookies that sign huge contracts….they end up supporting an entourage. They also end up bankrupt within five years of leaving the sport.

      I fear for Gabby in that regard. When you give people large sums of money who have never had it before, they do things like buy Bentleys. Rarely ends well, and at age 16 she has no clue what’s happening to her.

      • GymMom Says:

        Except for guys like Michael Oher, who made a point of not buying a big house or multiple cars when he signed his rookie contract. Speaking of Michael Oher, his book is a great read…tear jerker, but very good. If you’ve seen or read The Blind Side, you’ll love this.

      • GymMom Says:

        All the other gymnasts have siblings who would love to meet celebrities etc. I don’t see any of the other girls families tagging along. Gabby’s mother is the worst, even answering celebrities who tweet to Gabby. How about the storyline about how Gabby & her mother planned to “inspire the world?” Yes, Natalie…like divorcing Gabby’s Dad, remarrying him and then divorcing him again…so “inspirational!” Not paying for your daughter’s training, living or travel expenses is also “inspiring.” Pretending to be disabled when the world saw you jumping up and down and running around London for 2 weeks is “inspirational” as well. When is someone going to smack down these people and expose them for what they are?? I applaud the reporter in VB who interviewed Gabby on Tuesday but the news/sports media need to start picking up on it.

      • terrigymfan Says:

        I live in Dallas and there was an article in the paper just yesterday about Vince Young, the Texas quarterback. He signed a $26 million guaranteed contract in 2006 and now is bankrupt, plus he was just cut for the third time and probably will never play again in the NFL. He says his agent and business manager forged his name on documents and stole a lot of his money. although that doesn’t account for most of the money he has squandered) The bottom line is that often these athletes who come from dysfunctional family situations squander their money because they don’t know how to handle wealth, plus all sorts of parasites show up to suck them dry. Michael Oher is an exception. I can’t help but think it is because he in fact does have a solid family now giving him sound advice (or at least has a lot to do with that; Michael’s solid innate character has a lot to do with it too). I hope Gabby is not falling into the same trap as Vince Young and others but when I hear her talk of buying a Bentley I fear the worst.

      • GymMom Says:

        Yes Michael Oher is an exception and he’s exceptional. Gabby’s family needs to fade into the background. Her mother got an award last week….for WHAT? This photo was posted today by the photographer in VB who took photos at the function where the award was given. And of course the 2 daughters.

        https://mobile.twitter.com/kcephus/status/248752313269882880

      • sanitynmotion Says:

        The fact that Gabby’s mom is getting awards shows how far this society has fallen. My dad grew up in a very dysfunctional family (was beat, never got enough food or clothing, had to share a couch with his brother at night to sleep on, his father was an alcoholic, etc) and yet they never took welfare or were on the “dole” because at that time it was frowned upon and made you “look bad” since you were a “taker.” Now it’s just commonplace. I mean, I can understand a pick-me-up if you’ve been side-swiped and need funds to get you to where you’re going next, but now it seems that everyone just takes hand-outs because they are so freely given, and just live on them. And they never run out because you just keep applying for extensions under the “pretense” you’re really looking for a job.

        I have at least two friends collecting unemployment and have no plans to work. They just had babies actually and are using the unemployment to help feed the new little ones. It’s so easy to apply for extensions and “pretend” you’re searching for a new job it’s pathetic. You can live off of the “dole” for years now (whereas it used to be a few months, which made more sense). I have an Aunt too who’s given disability AND unemployment (again, NOT looking for a job and has no plans to ever work again) and just keeps getting extensions. She has arthritis and a weight problem. Well, I’m sure the pain from the arthritis would be lessened if she lost some of that weight (even her doc told her that), but she even told my mom point blank she’d rather eat because she enjoys her food. I mean I can go on about this, but I’ve probably said enough. People like Natalie Hawkins should NOT be rewarded, they should be struck down. People like her are bankrupting our society and causing us “working folk” to be penalized by more taxes.

        GymMom – what article are you talking about from the VB reporter? I hope someone calls out Natalie Hawkins someday for her sh*t. And I hope she gets sued by all the companies she owes money to. Her actions are sick.

      • Gymbee Says:

        I agree sanity! Here in the UK too, there are families that have been on benefits for generations. Kids grow up and see that their parents get money easily from the government, so where is the motivation to do well in school, when the parents don’t set a good example?

        I wonder what Natalie Hawkins got the award for? Good parenting was it? If they wanted to give it to a gymnast mom, give it to Rita Wieber. Four kids, and the oldest in medical school? Sounds like more successful parenting to me.

      • terrigymfan Says:

        I couldn’t agree with you more Sanity and Gymbee. I have no tolerance for people who always want to be in the victim and take mode. It seems like about half the people you see in a WalMart nowadays are hugely overweight and driving around in electric carts. They have gotten into the mode where they do nothing but eat eat eat and get no exercise at all. I’m willing to bet that 90% of these people are not working and are on some sort of government assistance. Plus they are driving our healthcare costs out of sight. My sister-in-law is a doctor and she says at least 80% of the health problems she sees are self-induced by people over-indulging, drinking too much, etc. The problem is the percentage of people who are living off the others is increasing. Not a good trend.

      • terrigymfan Says:

        While I’m in the bitching mode I’m going to vent about another pet peeve of mine and that is the marriage tax penalty. Sanity you are married and both you and your husband work, right? I am sure you know that if you and your husband divorced and just shacked up the two of you would save thousands of dollars in income tax each year. It’s a complete absurdity.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        I am against tax breaks cuz you have a kid.lol I have no kids, i want a no kid tax break.lol

      • terrigymfan Says:

        I apologiize for bringing up taxes because we could spend days complaining about this aspect or that aspect of the tax code. I will just say that because of the way progressive tax rates work if two people both work they often pay way more tax if they are married than they woul pay combined if they are single. Most people think you get a big tax break by getting married and believe me that is usually not true if both people work. We shouldn’t have a tax system that penalizes people for getting married.

        Whether it is right to give people a deduction for having kids is really a separate question. I didn’t like it either until I started having kids. LOL. I’ll admit I only complain about the tax code absurdities that hit me in the pocket book.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        Of course. If I had kids I wouldn’t be complaining either.lol We have to pay taxes but if the Government would stop wasting money than I am sure no one would say a word.

      • terrigymfan Says:

        LOL. So true!

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        I also think we should all pay the same amount of taxes. Say 3 % from EVERYONE. I am not rich and I don’t think it is fair that because someone makes more money they should pay more and I don’t think they deserve more tax breaks either. Oh if I ruled the world:)

      • sanitynmotion Says:

        Haha…yeah taxes are a big, BIG issue with me. A very sore subject indeed. I’m not a fan of the current system because it tends to reward people that make bad choices. Just because you decided to have ten kids you couldn’t afford, I shouldn’t have to pay for that. And I shouldn’t have to pay for their health insurance and medical bills, either. Call me mean but it’s just not fair. And I also shouldn’t have to pay for people that would rather be at home and collect welfare instead of working for a living.

        As far as I’m concerned we all use the roads, school systems, sidewalks, etc. so we should all pay a “fair” flat income tax. Say it’s 12%. If you make $100 all year, then pay your fair share – $12. I know this sounds crazy to some because the “rich” pay a lot less than they did before, but guess what. Most of the “rich” are also the ones that give us middle class people our jobs and influence the overall health of the private sector (which allows all of the public sector jobs to exist in the first place). So many of these private companies right now are sitting on piles of cash and they won’t spend it (or store it) in the US because the current tax system murders them/would put them out of business for doing so. We all wonder why outsourcing is so prevalent. Well, gee – it costs a fraction to run a business outside the US because of all of the bureaucracy that goes on here. Eliminate all the “rules” and “regulations” and businesses will want to come back and actually hire. But oh well.

        Sorry for the rant. I live and know too many people that have their hands out and it pisses me off. And yes Terri – I totally agree about the marriage penalty! Makes no sense! My husband and I work our butts off and we definitely pay for it.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        I don’t use the school system and when I went to school I was forced to go. I would not have gone if I had a choice.lol

    There’s awful comments on McKayla’s routines on youtube, so at this stage I don’t think it matters about her instagram photos.

    • hurms22 Says:

      You’re exactly right! Let’s face it, leotards themselves are pretty revealing, and even if Maroney dressed like a nun out of competition there’s still plenty of material out there.

    Jordyn is the only gymnast featured in the Team Kelloggs campaign.

    There a bunch of videos out of Alicia pimping the tour in Portland, can we start a campaign to get NBC to revamp their gymnastics coverage, fire Tim and Elfie and hire her as a commentator?

  9. exgymgurl Says:

    From that same athletepromotions.com site…. ” Find Gabby Douglas’s official website, charity, Twitter account and foundation at http://www.GabbyDouglas.com.”
    hilarious… gabbydouglas.com does not yet its coming soon… and a charity AND a foundation? Priceless…

      Someone is trying to sell alyraisman.com on ebay for $3k. Also USAG is fighting a trademark squatter who applied to trademark “fierce five” in the first week of August. People are crazy.

      Gabby has a website but it looks like something her mother does? It describes Gabby as the “favorite” going into the AA in London? Ah, in what alternate universe was that?

    I thought this was funny. Some blogger started a petition for Brestyans to hire a bars coach. Even though Mihai does need one asap.

    • Catherine Says:

      If Aly could even knock an Elise Ray style routine together, it would be such a help. In fairness, she arrived at London prelims and pointed her toes on a lot of skills where they were previously flexed, but it’s not enough and she slipped up on it a few times still. That blog is another that has fallen victim to the ‘children so no more posting’, it’s sad!

    • Gymbee Says:

      I can’t see it, is it by invitation only?

    Anyone know where to watch TF from different broadcasts/countries? I’ve seen both NBC’s and the BBC. I like hearing it from different perspectives. I tried to track down the CTV and CCTV versions with no luck 😦

    • gymtruthteller Says:

      I would really love to see those versions too especially CBC. Let me know if you find them

    • Gymbee Says:

      I’d love to see the NBC version. on the BBC one you couldnt really hear what the gymnasts were saying to each other.

      • catherine Says:

        Lol I wouldn’t, all I heard was massive complaints about it.

        The eurovisionsports.tv has no commentary, you can hear a lot of what people are saying. You can really hear mckayla going nuts in it. EU only. Olympic channel on YouTube has commentary..not NBC or BBC, not sure what it is. They don’t seem very knowledgeable though.

      • Gymbee Says:

        Thanks Catherine! Haha oh yeah I wouldn’t want to see it for the actual competition, just all the sideline comments 🙂 eurovision sounds better tho!

    • catherine Says:

      Olympic YouTube channel has other commentary, not sure what broadcaster.

      • mim Says:

        the youtube commentary i could access was shannon miller and a familiar sounding aussie guy whose name i can’t remember. were there other commentators too? i quite enjoyed their take although it didn’t provide anything the others didn’t. id love to watch the NBC commentary though haha.

    QUESTION for people who are better at scoring/judging than me. In TF Paseka got an 8.8 for that joke of an amanar. After she takes a giant step off the mat she steps back on before she salutes the judges. Was she penalized for taking that step back onto the mat, because she did it before she acknowledges the judges??

    This cuts off right before she salutes

    • nero Says:

      IDK why that’s not working. Just youtube Maria Paseka – VT Women’s Olympic Team Final London 2012

    • catherine Says:

      I don’t think so, because the code specifies that it is only initial contact that counts for oob and falls, that it doesn’t matter what happens after that. Its different for men, and I think the new wag code has sorted it out. Pasekas ef vault was credited as a dty by the d panel but nellie overruled it-according to geddert.

  16. Exgymgurl Says:

    http://www.gymnasticsresults.com/2010/americas/mex/panamwag.html#aa

    looking at 2010 pan ams and something jumps out… McKayla has the highest bar score over Kyla, Gabby Sabrina, Sarah …. why is she not able to score that now and can anyone find that routine? BTW Kyla and Sabrina beat Gabby AA…. yeah… without the Amanar and her massive overscoring for no apparent reason

    • gymtruthteller Says:

      The overscoring of Gabby was a joke and I know she upped her D score but even when she missed connections she was rewarded. It was like it was fixed.

      It’s like 2008 and Nastia. It all seemed fixed.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

        Do you have any idea why? I really scratch my head on this one. I wonder if it’s because she’s a minority?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        IMO? Yes it could be. She is different and someone in charge might think it’s a good idea to promote the sport as diverse. It might bring in watchers.

        I have a whole conspiracy theory about the comparisons of Nastia to Gabby during their Olympic years vs their previous years and it’s scary how parallel they are.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        Your going to ask me what that is aren’t you:)

        ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
        When Nastia made mistakes in 07 she was deducted for them.(Internationally) She fell off beam in the AA and finished something like 7th. Than we have 08 where she falls off bars and gets a score almost in the 16’s. The vault that was way easier than everyone elses started scoring over 15’s.
        Nationals and Trials Marta tries to fix it so she could win even though she fell something like 6 times between the two competitions. I think Shawn made one mistake over the two competitions and Marta still has Nastia only a point behind overall. I said to myself, wait til the Olympic judges get her. If she falls or misses a connection she will get deducted , it never happened. Someone told me that when Nastia missed a beam connection in the AA of 08 that Nellie Kim ran down to the judges table to make sure they gave her credit for the connection but I don’t remember it. They said it was mentioned on the broadcast and Tim and Elfi mentioned it.
        Now we have Gabby, I will give her credit for upgrading from 2011 to 2012 but the story remains the same. Marta tries to fix it so she wins Nationals. She nearly does even after making a million mistakes.Than she nearly falls off beam 5 times and still gets a 14.850 and still wins trials.
        The Olympics were a joke when it came to her and beam and vault and even UB. She goes from a generous 15.350 to a joke of a 15.700 on bars in aa finals. Same with beam where she got a 15.500 and I believe that to be the highest score for beam at the Olympics)
        The whole thing is just scary. Marta tries to fix Nationals and Trials for both and then the Olympic judges pull the same BS.
        It is suspicious.
        ~~~~~~~~Here is why i think there is merit to Gabby not deserving to win the AA. When GGMB loves you and they have a case for you deserving to win the analysis of the competition is up in 10 minutes. They have not done ONE SINGLE ANALYSIS of that AA competition. Guess who their favorite gymnast is? It’s not Komova.

        I may not be a code expert so I can’t give you every detail to add up a score but I know that if you cross your legs on twisting it’s a deduction. I know about missing handstands and landing feet OOB’s on floor and missing your connections etc…. enough to know that these scores were ridiculous.

      • JAS4 Says:

        It sounds like Marta and Nellie are BFFs it’s like Marta tries to make sure they know who she wants to win the AA

      • JAS4 Says:

        Speaking of blatant crazy scores I still don’t get how Gabby’s vault at Pacific Rims this year was credited as an Amanar after her hand slipped on the vault and she clearly only did a DTY she didn’t even get close to the extra half turn she landed on her knees facing the vault instead of away so it was clearly a DTY

      • sanitynmotion Says:

        GTT you know me too well 🙂 you make a great and scary point. You should write that as a blog! Its really sad to me how fixed the sport is. I don’t remember nastia too well in 08 but makes for good searching on you tube. Nellie and Marta should both be fired. I wonder if the other countries are aware and have to keep quiet for political reasons.

        I can see why gabby promotes diversity but I’m not sure nastia does. She’s just another white girl/euro trash hahahah.

      • Catherine Says:

        If you look at McKayla’s bars from 2010 Nationals, her kips are normal. Check them out now, and they are at the strangest angle. If that’s a deduction, it would explain why she was scoring higher then. Her swing has improved I think, but she had issues on the downswing and leg seperation all along.

        Gabby’s bars DID improve between TF and AA..I think she hit a connection and had a turn at 180 in AA, that she didn’t have in TF. Even so, MAJOR inflation, as were the rest of her scores. Aly’s bars, Paseka’s vaults, Komova’s vaults and beam were overscores too, but Gabby was in a league of her own.

        Crossing feet or legs is the same deduction- 0.1 If they are crossed practically higher than the knee like Mustafina sometimes, it doesn’t matter as there’s no further penalty, crossing ankles gets the same.

      • Gymbee Says:

        It’s VERY suspicious! What caught my eye was the score discrepancy between Gabby’s AA bars and EF bars. 15.7 to 14.9. She had a mistake in EF, but come on. I’m no code expert, but to me the 14.9 seemed more fair. I guess because they already gave her the AA, they’d done their job and could have someone else win?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        She messed up in the EF and lost bonus but yes, with her start value her score should have been low 15.

  17. Exgymgurl Says:

    okay never mind thats a mistake, that was McKaylas vault score

        Thanks for all the info and your analysis. It’s really interesting how all the “gang ” as Iike to call them…Beyonce’; Nikki Minaj; Alicia Keys; Serena W.; Oprah; Lil Wayne(too many to mention) tweeted Gabby after she won AA but not since. They all got the “memo.” I’m not quite sure yet, exactly why Gabby was “picked” aka “over scored” but I’ve been giving it some thought.

    • Exgymgurl Says:

      why i sourced it and IG reports it as her vault score, I will trust them and that… it makes more sense. No one can justify Gabbys overscoring this year. It really truly is completely ridiculous.

    we need to start a “real gym scores” blog and have a computer score these women… like they do with ncaa football rankings

    interesting that only one 2010 world team member THE MOST DECORATED USA GYMNAST Aly Raisman…..made the USA olympic squad and the other 4 were at panams. Also interesting that only 2 romanians and 2 russians were on the olympic team from 2012 worlds… the there are a whole bunch of the chinese that carried over

    • gymtruthteller Says:

      I am so bored of this group minus Kyla. I say bring in the new

    • catherine Says:

      Not really, only aly was senior in 2010. As for worlds, mustafina and paseka were injured then, sidorova is injured now and demy was still recovering when the team was picked. Iordache was a junior last year, pretty sure bulimar was too. Porgras retired. As for china, they had injury and consistency issues with their new juniors, so had to rely on old faces. All of the team changes make sense to me.

  20. Exgymgurl Says:

    But who are they. Personally I will be watching whomever Marta sends to Pan Ams in 2014 LOL

      im most excited about sarah finnegan, bailey key, laurie hernandez and maddie desch. polina is a good little gymnast too. i want lexie to go off to college gymnastics lol.

      im also still holding out hope for a maroney vault but im thinking this is becoming less and less likely.

    • Catherine Says:

      2013 seniors are Lexie Priessman, Katelyn Ohashi (WOGA, currently can’t vault), Simone Biles (candidate for TTY, great floor too) and Maddie Desch (GAGE, great floor). There’s more but they are the main ones. Amelia Hundley (CGA like Lexie and both are currently injured) is 2014, as are Polina Schennikova (a better Nastia) and Nica Hults (bars I think). 2015- Bailie Key (she’s amazing) and 2016 is Laurie Hernandez (can dance, great beam too).

      • Exgymgurl Says:

        Mihai and Valeri need to team up and swap gymnasts with Mihai teaching vault and Valeri teaching bars…. No Im serious.

      • Catherine Says:

        Nah, Artur Akopyan and Valeri is even better! Courtney McCool is now at CGA, it’s probably too late for Amelia and Lexie but it would be great if she could instil presentation and perfection of every skill into them..

        Nintendo was so 1994. Dude. Xbox is where its at. She seems to be following Shawn’s steps though only shawn got her own Wii game.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

        I think you can pay to have a nintendo game made of you to promote something.

      • GymMom Says:

        Shawn’s endorsement/business relationship with Nintendo is a minor one compared to Nike and Coca Cola. Coke’s ads during the Olympics featuring the rebuilding of Chow’s Gym after the 2008 Olympics were pretty amazing. The way Shawn’s Dad mobilized people in the community to rebuild the gym was spectacular and Coke captured that. Gabby’s Nintendo endorsement is a joke to me. It’s mostly boys who buy the DS. My grandson has one but he rarely plays it.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

        So basically: both Nintendo and Gabby suck.

  24. GymMom Says:

    Kind of interesting that Gabby took 1st on the Unevens at the Pan Ams & immediately after that is when she left Excalibur in search of “better coaching?” After being turned down in Texas, Gabby & her mother flew to Iowa to the front door of Chow’s Gym. Chow didn’t know who Gabby was at that point. Gabby had participated in a clinic at Excalibur which Chow had put on. Gabby & her mother both bragged about how awesome she had done…claiming Chow was really impressed? Yes, so “impressed” that when they showed up at his gym in Iowa, he didn’t recognize Gabby?

    My point I guess, is I wonder if Marta had anything to do with Gabby leaving Excalibur? Did she want Gabby somewhere where she controlled the situation? Who paid for 2 round-trip plane tickets for Gabby & her mother to fly & meet Chow in person? Marta??

    It’s odd to me that Marta has so much influence not only in the US but all over the world? Watching the Olympic competition this year, it seemed like they were following a “script?”

    And I was appalled by the negativity from NBC’s Tim Daggett about other countries gymnasts. The repeated “diva” references on an international telecast were shocking. In retrospect, was that part of the “script” too?

    Many of the events were broadcast LIVE…like USA Basketball, Tennis and others. The NBC coverage of the Women’s Gymnastics was heavily edited. I watched LIVE online and the prime-time coverage seemed to be following that “script.”

    Reminds me of NFL & NBA Play-off games which are obviously fixed.

    • Exgymgurl Says:

      GTT actually wrote a blog about Kelli Hill trying to steal gabby douglas way back….I think Marta definitely had a hand in her moving, after all how did gabbys mom wiht no$$ get $$ to be flying her all over the country for a new gym. Also notice that since Gabby showed up most of Chows other elites left… ?? There is something about her and the whole story that just never sits right…

      That is a good article! I read the comments below and just as I suspected there is someone accusing the person that wrote it of being a racist because she stated her opinion against Gabby(even though she never made any racial comments about Gabby) the commenter even goes so far as to call the writer a cracker which proves their own racism

      • GymMom Says:

        It was a good straightforward explanation/theory about the over scoring of Gabby, without any racism.

      • gymnastwannabe Says:

        I think Gabby’s outgoing personality and family story made her more marketable than Jordyn. The way NBC or Marta (or both or whoever) set up the rivalry b/t Jordyn and Gabby leading up to the Olympics seemed “so” fake and staged to me, but is sold – sold ads, sold tickets, and sold lots of clicks on yahoo, etc. Jordyn is solid, down to earth and unfortunately, to the 4 yr fans who want entertainment and not gymnastics, not as entertaining. Gabby was the one who could make NBC and USAG some money and if gymnastics was going to be on prime-time, money had to be made…unfortunately at the expense of other gymnasts. People who follow gymnastics regularly know that Jordyn’s medal count and consistent dominance in the sport for the past 4 yrs outweighs Gabby’s 2 AA titles…but that isn’t what makes money. Nationals, Trials, and the Olympics were more entertainment than competitions, imo, both existed for sure, but entertainment dominated and made more $$.

    BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Shawn is really trying to convince herself that she is super best friends with these girls. I’m sure they do want to go watch a show but not to cheer on their sister/mentor/idol/icon but because it would be fun and they would get to be on TV

  27. Exgymgurl Says:

    She looks really good, much slimmer and more fit then she was last time.

    • GymMom Says:

      Shawn is probably the only DWTS contestant who gained weight during the show. She had already gained weight on the tour following the 2008 Olympics.

      After DWTS, Shawn started dating Ryan Rdwards, who played football at the University of Iowa for a short time. She “partied” a lot and gained even more weight. Then she went on a skiing trip and tore her ACL.

      Her “comeback” was a joke. Everyone knew she had no chance to make the team.
      In order to keep her Nike contract, Shawn had to buckle down & get in shape. Pretending she was making a “comeback” was another piece of the Nike contract puzzle.

      Shawn cannot do an interview without whining about her knee injury, including the one that was posted above. That injury will undoubtedly be the reason she uses when she doesn’t win DWTS.

      Look at this close-up of the absolutely hideous outfit the girls wear on tour. High school girls don’t need to look like that. So cheesy!

      • GymMom Says:

        It looked like she gained some weight too ? She danced better with Mark. Derek is too tall for her.

      • Guest Says:

        I saw her boyfriend in the audience seat also.

      • GymMom Says:

        Yes her “boyfriend” Ryan Edwards who always shows up when the cameras are on. LOL! He tweeted about the “perks of a hot flight attendant” and “making moves” on the flight attendant on his flight to LA over the weekend. How degrading and disrespectful! Shawn undoubtedly bought his plane ticket and is paying his way? If my husband or boyfriend tweeted something like that, he would be shown the door. She flew him to London and he was bragging to his buddies on Twitter about getting “front row seats” to a USA Basketball game. Turns out Shawn posted a photo of them sitting in the “first row” at that game in London…the first row in the 3rd section up. LOL!

        It’s so obvious this guy is not into Shawn! He tweets constantly in a deragatory and disrespectful manner about women….insinuating how much women want to sleep with him, most of which isn’t suitable to post here. He also tweets about his “epic hangovers” etc.

        I bet he was disappointed he didn’t get much “camera time” last night on DWTS??

      • sanitynmotion Says:

        I thought she danced better than she did in her former season. Knee seems to be holding up quite well, hardy har. I still think Marta paid her “back door” style to go away before Nationals because it was never Marta’s intent to put her on the team. Only Nastia had that favor.

        If us “commoners” can see through this guy than so should she. She’s just an idiot, then. I don’t know why she’s treating this guy to all of these favors if he obviously isn’t into her, but what she does with her money is none of my business. Her mom was there too so you’d think mommy would tell Shawn her boyfriend is just being a user. Funny how he’s all of a sudden back in her life now that she’s out of the gym and doing the whole celebrity thing again.

        I have to wonder after this show is over and the mania has died down if Shawn will have some sort of identity crisis. Unless Sheryl gets her another big endorsement deal. She’s either lived a lifestyle of all-out gymnastics or endorsements/celebrity…basically saying she has yet to live a “normal” life. We all know the dude will ditch her then, too.

      • GymMom Says:

        Looks like one big “happy family?” Shawn’s boyfriend is the blonde on the far right, as far away from Shawn as he can possibly get. Those are his parents and family along with Shawn’s parents. He never mentions or talks about Shawn on Twitter but he talks about plenty of other women…mostly in a sexual manner.

        Shawn talks about going to Vanderbilt or Stanford? Not with an online diploma! Look at the other contestants on DWTS…mostly D-listers or No-listers…looking for publicity to revive their non-existent careers. I watched the first hour last night & switched to The Voice.

        Many other “stars” turned down DWTS All-Stars & with good reason. It’s more of a freak show than usual. My husband didn’t know who at least 6 of them were.

        I mean at the end of the day, the winner gets a cheap ball with mirrors glued on to it. Although Shawn said last night her parents show that more than her Olympic medals???

        My question is how can Shawn train 8-10 hours a day dancing but she claimed her knee forced her to retire from gymnastics.

        I think whoever said Marta & Shawn made a “deal” that Shawn would pretend to make a “comeback” to satisfy or fool Nike. Marta agreed because Shawn’s presence at the ranch/camp/competitions kept Marta & USA Gymnastics in the headlines.

        https://mobile.twitter.com/ShawnJohnson/status/250654303063273473/photos

      • sanitynmotion Says:

        This is where I question the whole “deal” fooling Nike though. Didn’t Shawn sign with them AFTER she announced she was going to make a comeback attempt? And isn’t that a LOT of work to put yourself through to make the comeback legit in the first place?

        I mean – to clarify, if I were going to make a comeback attempt to fool Nike, I would have either done it Nastia-style (waited longer to actually get my a$$ in the gym and maintaining I had shoulder/knee/joint problems so I couldn’t get all routines back as quickly as I’d hoped) OR played it out like I was coming back, but hold off as long as I could on actually competing before breaking down and blaming the knee. Shawn went to Secret Classic in 2011 and did two events (including bars, one of the harder ones to come back to)…then added vault a couple months later at nationals (not a STY, but a DTY) and went to worlds camp, where she was reportedly hitting. Plus, she actually “went” to whatever competition it was in Guadalajara (forgot the name) that was for the people that didn’t make the worlds team. She could have easily backed out of that (again, Memmel-style) and pulled the whole rehab/my-knee-hurts-too-much-to-continue-on stunt. Why compete again, then? And she looked too darn good to be faking it, let’s be honest. She was cut and was getting to “look” like a gymnast again in those photos at the Guadalajara competition and then later at her rehab facility in Colorado.

        I just don’t know if all that makes for a “fake” comeback attempt. That’s too much work for just one Nike contract. It’s not like Nike makes you if you are sponsored by them – of her 5 million, how much of that is Nike-related? They sponsor a ton of athletes. And if they found out anything was fake on her part (they aren’t dumb), they’d drop you as fast as they dropped Marion Jones after her doping scandal broke loose, and you’d be risking your reputation to the point it would not be worth it “if” Nike called you out. How bad would that be for Shawn and her fans? It was bad enough that she ended up pulling out before nationals in 2012 – after telling her fans she couldn’t wait to show off her new floor routine and that her knee was doing fine in practice. Yeah, something was fishy, but she’d come too far until then for that comeback to be fake. I think something happened where she knew she wouldn’t be making that team (Marta wouldn’t have it) and rather than risk her reputation for “not making it” like ASac she bowed out before it could happen, which was even more tempting since DWTS was doing an all-star show.

        If I were faking it I would have done 1-2 events at Classics (Memmel/Nastia style), added one watered-down event at Nationals (not bars, which takes more endurance and is harder to come back to – so say do beam at Classics and then beam + vault at nationals), backed out of Guadalajara, not attend camps due to “injury” (again, like Nastia) and then end it all with “oh well I tried my knee crapped out.” I would have never mentioned a floor routine or how exciting it would be, and I would have never indicated my knee was doing fine. She looks bad enough with that on her reputation – so basically what I’m thinking here is that the comeback itself wasn’t fake, but something happened towards the end of it that made her bow out. I don’t think it was entirely the knee. And I don’t think she was trying to fool Nike. That’s way too risky.

        Just my opinion.

      • GymMom Says:

        Another pic from Shawn…”Pre-show love?” Yeah Shawn, your boyfriend looks like he’s your brother.

        Shawn is delusional! Or maybe Edwards was her “first” & she just can’t quit him? Either way, it looks bad for her.

        Regarding Nike, Shawn signed with them quite a while ago…..right after she whipped herself into shape, when she was “cut” like you said.

        Being a “Nike Woman” pays pretty well. By “fooling” Nike, I guess maybe I meant subconsciously? She knew a comeback was next to impossible but she went through the motions. Not knowing how far-reaching Marta is/was, we don’t know the level of complicity of judges etc. Shawn never looked better than she did during her “comeback” attempt, so it was easier to buy into her gymnastics abilities?

      • sanitynmotion Says:

        Thanks for posting and for the pics/videos…very entertaining, overall.

        Is it just me, or does Shawn seem to be wearing a TON more makeup than ever before? I guess it comes with being on a dance show. But even more so than the last time she was on it. She almost looks like a painted caricature.

      • GymMom Says:

        She looks terrible with all that make-up…like she’s a 10 yr old playing dress-up.

        Really funny tonight hearing Shawn’s partner Derek Hough calling her a “chipmunk” last night, right before they danced? Remember TMZ called her a chipmunk in a deragatory way right after the 2008 Olympics?? Shawn was shocked to hear Derek call her that. Pretty revealing to find out that’s how he thinks of her? LOL!

      • Guest Says:

        Derek made jokes about Shawn’s height several times in this behind the scene. I don’t know whether it is just producer’s request of just doing that in camera and maybe Shawn didn’t mind that a lot, but Derek should show more respect on her in the whole show.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

        This show is just so lame, but I appreciate whoever posts these videos because I would not have otherwise seen Shawn dance. That being said, wow I think the chipmunk comment was a slip. He totally tried to cover it with “munchkin” but whoops. You could tell Shawn’s smile went from genuine to fake in that nanosecond.

        Mark Ballas got screwed with his partner…he’ll last one more week max.

      • GymMom Says:

        Yes it seemed like a slip when Derek called Shawn a chipmunk…as if how he really feels about her came out. The pros will do whatever to stay on one more week, otherwise they don’t get paid, once they’re voted off. How about Shawn’s obvious jaw-drop when Len( judge) gave her a 6.5?? How dare he do that to her?? LOL!

        Shawn is not going to win DWTS.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

        I don’t think she’ll win either. I still think she won’t know what to do with herself after the show is over. How much more of a “brand” is she without what made her in the first place?

        Even Amanda Beard still swam and made a valid attempt for London. Just sayin’.

I hope they all make $$ – none of their $$ will compare to what NBC and USAG made off of them.
