Mckayla Maroney, Aly Raisman and Nationals in Connecticut, wooooo

Lets start with Nationals being in Hartford, Conn in 2013. I think I might go. I have also decided to go to the American Cup in March and it better feature Kyla Ross because that is why I am going.

Aly Raisman the new Queen of New England has signed a deal with local water company, Poland Springs. Okay peeps, who has Poland Springs in their state?

Aly likes cupcakes and partying with her friends. I don’t see this kid continuing even though I do think it is interesting that New England is the place for gym meets in 2013.

A video of Aly where her voice sounds normal Message to Aly, your friend Talia should be able to get you Bruins

Last but certainly not least lets discuss Mckayla Maroney’s mother
. The women has hired security for her daughter because she is being hounded by crazy people. As the parent of a child (not really) I find Mckayla Maroney’s mother way out of touch with reality. She needs to parent her child and regulate her internet access if she is going to keep posting pictures of herself like this. Us normal people are not what Mckayla has to worry about it is perverts that see this picture and think disgusting things.

If my daughter posted this picture she wouldn’t have internet. Just saying.

More Mckayla and an 800 dollar purse? beats my 10 dollar back pack:)

Hmmm. Nationals might be in the cards for me. We’ll see.

I like Mckayla, and I understand her need to post pictures of herself everywhere (she’s a photogenic ham) but she needs to realize how many pervs there are out there. Just recently, while going through some of the gym tumblrs I have stumbled across some really bizzare things that want to make me claw my own eyes out. For serious. It would be creepy if they were adults, but the fact that the majority of these young women are minors just takes all this to a whole new level of creepy. Asac once threatened to beat a guy senseless who expressed his desire to shag MM over twitter. I wanted to send her a fruit basket.

So in conclusion, people are freaks, but Mckayla is making it worse.

    • Aerial Says:

It could potentially be in the cards for me too. Not many options when coming from Ontario… I did attend Philly in 2001.

  2. Catherine Says:

No everyone go to worlds instead! :p It’s McKayla’s smile that really does her in, stomach or not, the smile makes her look sleazy for the pervs out there. Very picture happy, but I love how she adores her cute little sister and has photos of her being awesome and stuff.

Anyway, I fail to get why the bag is a big deal..her parents are unbelievably loaded, first because she is elite and second because all of the photos where you can see bits of her house, it looks like something on MTV Cribs. She had a Louis Vuitton bag at worlds last year too, dunno if it’s the same one.

    • sainabou nyang Says:

Would love to go to worlds but nationals is only a greyhound bus ride away lol.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I have huge issues with ANYOINE spending 800 dollars on a purse. It’s your money spend as you wish but seriously, 800 DOLLARS. You could feed 3 families for two weeks each on that type of money.

Maybe it was the way I was raised. No matter how much money I had there is no way I would spend that much on a bag. I would feel too guilty

      • Catherine Says:

I wouldn’t either, but moreso because they’re too expensive and I don’t have that money or even really like designer bags except for the very odd one or two. Probably would feel guilt in the end. She looks to be surrounded by a wealthy lifestyle, the kind where it’s quite normal for your kids to aspire to be on sweet 16 and get cars and stuff as gifts.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I feel the same way. $800 is as much as some people spend on their MORTGAGE. I’d probably end up spilling crap on it or losing it or leaving it somewhere…

      • Kazic Says:

I would never spend that on a bag no matter how rich I was. I wold totally drop a stack on a kick as tv though lol. I think it just depends on where you assign value.

      • mim Says:

and you know what, you’re talking american prices… in australia we pay double for clothes, handbags, makeup etc (it’s a real sore point amongst us girls here!).. and many people still buy it. mckayla’s LV bag would be at least $1500AUD here.

i’m of the opinion, if you have the money to spare why not. i can’t judge how people spend money unless it’s people im close to who spend big when they can’t afford it (moreso out of concern). but personally, where i am in my life i couldn’t justify buying LV.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I looked into worlds when you were talking about it before. It would cost over 2000 for just hotel and plane and I don’t remember if I included prelims with

      • sainabou nyang Says:

And it only cost 20 bucks on the greyhound or megabus to get to Hartford from ny. Lol

      • Catherine Says:

Wow, wouldn’t have thought that much, crazy. I’m hoping to get it under €500 for everything, only going for womens AA and then all of event finals so 3 days.

      • Kazic Says:

Yes Catherine, we be broke Americanos (or I am) lol. Like I said, in a year or so when I am rolling in do, I may do a worlds, and I would like to do 2016 or 2020 olympics, but those are like, omce in a lifetine trips.

      • catherine Says:

Yeah I find it hard to remember how crazy expensive flights from us to Europe are. Like if I went to nationals, ughh the cost! I will go to whatever worlds are near me..i think 2015 is in Scotland…but nothing further afield than the rest of Europe.

    • Gymbee Says:

It’s the age old debate on whether it’s the victims fault for attracting the perves, or if perves should control themselves no matter what girls do. In a perfect world it would be the latter, but girls should be careful.
In this case – since McKayla is a child – it should be the parents who monitor which photos she puts out for the world to see.
My little gym girls that I used to coach are that age now, and I see the photos they put up on facebook. Sleazy as f*ck, the majority of them. I think it’s partly the fault of the world we live in – body focus, and young girls want to be hot.

      • mim Says:

i agree, her online activity is just unfortunately pretty normal for a teenage girl, they all post provocative photos and have no sense of consequences for that sort of thing (blame teen brain development i guess!). im so happy that im old enough to just have been on the cusp of mainstream internet without the facebook/camera phones etc. using msn and playing ‘snake’ on your mobile phone was as exciting as it got.

  3. Guest Says:

McKayla’s Mom is a trip. I agree that if they want to deter the pervs, they need to manage the content McKayla puts out there.

Kazic…I looked at the gym tumblrs because you mentioned them. My eyes are bleeding now. Who knew Aly has such a following from the lesbian community? Lol.

    • Kazic Says:

I love Mckayla and find her wildly entertaining, so I like that she mingles with her public lol. But I am not a perv, she’s 16, and at that age, you need a parental filter. Even if you did win the Olympics (and spank the Russians).

Lol. I warned you didn’t I? Ok, I didn’t specifically, but it was implied. It is so bizzare. All these people have worked up super disturbing fantasies in their heads. I legit saw people arguing that Musty and Aly have been secret hooking up during the Olympics. -_- I’m like, wtf are you people on? /headdesk

  4. exgymgurl Says:

Everyone has Poland Springs LOL…. and I was wrong when I said Nastia would be in Maxim or Playboy… McKayla Maroney will be in both… Maxim first, then Playboy when she is 18 and Kyla is preparing for her second olympics, McKayla will be signing her spread….Aly will probably do a watered down exhibition beam routine or sign autographs with Alicia depending on where her training / injuries are at in 2013…. Kyla will compete AA and be a national champion, because Gabby can’t mess up her hair. Hopefully Cheryl Slade is keeping all of Gabby’s $$ and taking care of that even though she let a college kid trademark flying squirrel earlier this month

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I don’t know what everyone I have been to Cali once and Florida 3 times. After that I have been no where out of New

    • elitefan Says:

I had friends visiting in the NE from Texas last month and they were all excited about the “new kind of water we found.” It was Poland Spring…

    • sanitynmotion Says:

We have Crystal Geiser and a few others – not so much Poland Spring. I’ve seen it here and there, but it’s really rare in California.

  5. exgymgurl Says:

Oh and McKayla’s agent probably told them to hire security because it makes her look more important than she actually is.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Haha, nice. You’re so right. Two weeks ago nobody would have known who McKayla was anyways. Most often your “15 seconds” disappears just as quickly as it showed up.

      • Kazic Says:

I knew who she was ;_: She’s awesome lol. But seriously, if I had kids, not sure I would want them to do gymnastics. Way more money in basketbakk and football, though the latter turns your brains to scrambled eggs.

      • mim Says:

i dont know. i can’t blame her parents. she’s a wealthy, pretty, now relatively famous 16 year old and there are too many crazies in the world. i don’t think you can risk safety when it comes to your kid.

    • Aerial Says:

I was wondering if that was actually a direct quote from her Mom – considering the source and the other errors in the article – her height, she competed on a broken foot, and where they got all those old AOGC pool party photos from (Mattie Larson included.)

They must be loaded if she has security following her at all times. Is that really needed? I’m sure they needed a chaperone in London and in the States considering half of them are 15/16, plus their parents seemed able to tag along this entire time. (None of them would get fired from work? They can all afford it?) Now her life will be the tour (supervised) and maybe (hopefully) driving back and forth to the gym when she’s done. I doubt the paps will be still on her heels during the mundane schedule times.

She’s had that bag (and it’s in half her pictures) the last couple of years. Are there Louis outlets in the States? Haha, kidding (kind of.)

      • Gymbee Says:

Daily Mail has a reputation for rewriting quotes, sensationalising and being obsessed with what things cost. It’s an awful newspaper, “closet racist” and trashy. Follow @dailymailstyle for a parody Daily Mail Style guide. It’s hilarious πŸ™‚

  6. sanitynmotion Says:

I don’t know about Aly’s star potential lasting longer than say…two years…but that’ll give her enough time to want to make a comeback. πŸ™‚ Her robot voice just kills me.

McKayla I hope debuts a TTY at some point, but who knows if she’s getting a bunch of modeling gigs. She lives close enough to LA to get lost in that type of crowd and lifestyle.

I hate her shirt in that one article showing her $800 bag. It beats me computer bag though for sure…and my $50 bag I got on Etsy.

    • Case Says:

      I have a $65 Coach bag from an outlet…yeah I’m a baller.

I’m also the artist formerly known as “Guest.”. You all are a great bunch!

    • Exgymgurl Says:

aly will always be huge in New England… Like Nancy Kerrigan huge as an Olympian from greater Boston.

      • Case Says:

Just like Jordyn will always be huge in Michigan…because she’s the only kick ass gymnast we’ve ever had here (no disrespect to Katie Teft.)

Jo is like the girl version of Magic Johnson here.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I don’t know about Michigan but in Boston people will remember Aly forever. She will get speaking engagements in twenty years.

Once you are in here you are in for life unless Aly becomes a Yankee, then we hate her:)

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Is ASac in for life in Boston too? Just wondering. Guessing not since Aly did more – won more – actually got a gold, blahblahblah…even though ASac did get that stupid record that should not have been hers. Sorry. It’s true though.

  8. Case Says:

On a slightly different note, I will be sad when the Team Finals leaves my cable on demand this weekend. 😦

    So addicted.

  9. JAS4 Says:

Yeah $800 for a bag is definitely crazy expensive!

  10. Dee Says:

Uhhh gym examiner twitter just posted a photo of Geddert’s Olympic tattoo…

I’d post a link but I can’t on the phone. I bet Jas can! Haha. No seriously…it’s bad.

    • Dee Says:

Wait! I think I did it! Oh god I think I just copy/pasted on the iPhone. This is a big deal.

      • JAS4 Says:

Wow that’s a little over the top I would have thought some small Olympic rings like some of the athletes get would have been enough but oh well maybe he likes giant tattoos lol

      • Case Says:

Apparently Geddert doesnt have any other Olympic caliber gymnasts on the horizon because he took up his entire back with that one tattoo. Lol.

      • sainabou nyang Says:

Case I recall but could be wrong that Gedderts had another gymnast that performed at the nastia liukin cup this year by the name of grace Laughlin oe grace Williams. I think she was being coached by johns wife. I don’t remember her age i think she was 14 but if im right and she still trains at gedderts she will be a senior next year .

      • Case Says:

That’s Grace Williams…if she makes an Olympic team Mrs. Geddert can tat up her back.

      • Dee Says:

I think grace is more on the college route than Olympics, so jordyn might be the only one for a while…unless he has someone else we have not yet seen.

      • sainabou nyang Says:

Chow I read has some promising juniors hes working with. They wont be seniors until 2015 i believe.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I don’t even know what to say. I liked Geddert at first (like before the Olympics) because I thought he was very protective of his athlete and a good positive mentor, and I liked that. Now he just looks like a power tool. Seriously. Who does that? I could understand if he got a small London tattoo with the Olympic rings…or even what he has now, maybe 1/16th the size on his back or something…but that just looks awful. Like he could not wait until he could be an Olympic coach and realizes it’s a one-time thing with Jordyn.

If I were Jordyn I’d almost be embarrassed. Wow.

      • mim Says:

that tattoo is so frigging tacky. it looks like a bikie tattoo… gross.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Yeah, it’s way worse than a tramp stamp.

      • DL Says:

Haha, that is the worst tattoo.

      • Catherine Says:

I haven’t heard of any ‘star’ juniors emerging from Chow’s, except Norah Flatley. That tattoo is gross.

    • gym1002 Says:

OMG! That tattoo is so freaking HUGE! And HE didn’t win the 2012 Gold!

  11. elitefan Says:

    Great interview with Mustafina:

    • sainabou nyang Says:

I like musty even more after reading this article. She’s not an attention seeker and seems to have really grown up in the past year. Go get that law degree! I wasnt surprised that grishna refused to do beam. Ive seen video of her doing it and she looked scared to be on it.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

I’ve always been a big fan of Musty since I saw her in 2010. I wanted her to win the AA this time around (secretly) but was starting to realize it wouldn’t be in the cards for her given her injury and growth spurt. I think she’ll make a case in Rio, if not the next four years.

    • Kazic Says:

Yes that is one if the better interviews with her. Like I’ve said previously, it was obvious she did a lot of growing up after she was injured. She’s one of my favorites now. She did so well, and she wasn’t really at 100%. She’ll definitely be one to watch in the next quad.

Another great interview can be found here:

      • Biyatch Says:

“And american girls, that Masha wanted congratulate her and didn’t have response, well i think it’s not okay.Only Maroney seemed like angry, other girls from USA were nice, especially Raisman, she’s aο»Ώ very kind girl and i like her very much.-Did you communicated with each other? Any possibility to improve your english?-No, we saw each other only at competitions and trainings, but at trainings you don’t have any chance to talk.”

Insight into the Aly and Musty thumbs up moment. And LOL about McKayla.

      • Kazic Says:

Basically, if you would like a little back story Biyatch, it goes like this: currently in Russia, the U.S. team isn’t percieved very well (when is it ever?). Still not exactly sure where this idea comes from, but I think one of their gymnasts brought it up at some point and it has been latched onto by the general public. MM’s percieved snub of Izbasa and Paseka on the VT podium has been held up as proof we are b*tches.

So the female caller in this part of the interview is curious about that dymnamic, and just relationships in general. She asks how the Russians get along (do they fight, are they close, etc.). She may be asking this because there were accusations in the American media that the Russians were constantly fighting with one another (and some of that may have gotten picked up by the Russian media). Then she asks how were the Americans (were they nice, cold, whatever), and specifically asks for Aliya’s take on the Maroney incident. She wants it straight from the horse’s mouth, basically.

Mustafina talks a little about the Russian team. She says that they are very close and all support one another like a family. I actually believe her, because you could see it in the way they interacted in competition. Then she moves on to the main event. What all the listeners really want to know: how are the Americans?

So this is why I like Musty. She’s honest. She could have gone after us, called us all bad sports, done whatever her little vodka loving heart desired. But she didn’t. She called out the person she felt behaved badly (MM), saying she didn’t like how Masha (Paseka) was treated. She could have left it there, but she then acquits the rest of the US team of bad behavior, saying the rest were nice. She could have left it there, but she doesn’t. She goes one step further. She calls out Aly for good sportsmanship.

It means a lot, because she didn’t have to do it. She could have said whatever she liked. One of the characteristics I admire about Musty, is that honesty. She called out who she thought deserved it, and praised the rest. She also applies this rule to her own team. If you’ve read some of the interviews with Alexandrov and others recently, you know Nastia G. has been the focus of some criticism. There too, Musty was honest, calling out some of her behavior, but saying she gets that she’s young.

Anyway, just my take on that part of the interview. I love to see people from different places getting beyond their cultural/political differences and just getting along. It’s one of the best parts of the Olympics, IMO. I have a desktop wallpaper of Jordan Burroughs hugging his competitior from Iran, It’s a great thing.

  12. Kel Says:

GROSS on the Geddert tatoo! That would be weird even if Jordyn had won the AA title.

I am convinced that if McKayla was not a gymnast, she would be on sixteen and pregnant or teen mom. I am starting to find her really annoying. Personally, I found her attitude on the medal stand to be really unprofessional. I get she wasn’t happy with herself, but still…if it had been the other way around and she had won gold and a russian gymnast acted that way on the medal stand, I don’t think anyone would have found that funny. Just sayin…

    • Kazic Says:

I really feel that MM didn’t mean anyting by what happened on the podium. You can look into her eyes and just see she’s not there. I hope Mckayla is grounded enough to not end up in the tabloids.

You are probably right though. If a Russian had done what she did, people would be pissed, but I blame NBC for that. They would have talked about it constantly, blown it way out of proportion, and the every 4 year people would have just piled on the train.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Kind of getting tired of McKayla’s posting endless pictures of herself. She obviously likes the attention she’s getting, even if she’s also attracting the pervs. You don’t see any of the other Fierce Five posting pictures of themselves like that.

And although I don’t believe McKayla snubbed Paseka intentionally, for someone who’s been competing at a high level in athletics for as long as she has would almost be on auto pilot congratulating/hugging your competitors right after the competition ended, no matter how badly/good it might have been for you personally. Aly is a fine example of this; she hugs right after no matter what the outcome, even if she came in fourth (again) or lost a medal because of a stupid tie breaker rule. That’s good sportsmanship. McKayla exhibited bad sportsmanship after her event and she should be criticized for it.

      • Kazic Says:

Actually. I have seen one inappropriate pic of Jo and Kyla (together showing their abs), but I admit it’s not quite the same. I agree she should tone down the provocative photos.

I honestly don’t think she’s used to disappointment Sanity. Didn’t someone say that she’d never (or close to it) sat down a vault in competition. That kind of shock could knock you off balance. I don’t condone how she acted on the podium, but I understand it, the same way I defend Komova’s shell shocked look on the AA podium.

  13. Jessica Says:

Kel, I have loathed MM for a long time. She always seems to eye f*ck the camera when she looks at it. There is something about her that turns me off. While you aren’t supposed to blame a victim, it becomes difficult when the victim is an attention seeker. I’m sorry, I just don’t like that girl.
And hells yeah, I could see her on teen mom! She’s somewhere between Leah Messer and Amber!

Even though the Olympics are over, I still pine that the US should have chosen ASac. 😦 I think she would have made beam finals and gotten gold on vault.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Jessica I was totally thinking the same thing! Like ASac is probably PISSED because she could have made beam finals and likely got a medal, plus she definitely would have landed both her vaults and won gold. Yeah she wouldn’t have brought a stuck amanar to team finals, but Team USA won by like over 5 points so that doesn’t really matter.

The whole thing about McKayla from the beginning was “well maybe she could help out USA on floor, too.” That obviously was never the plan even though Marta made a point out there that anyone on the team would have to contribute on more than one event. Marta was obviously lying and even McKayla said (before Team Finals in London when everyone was asking about her toe) “I was only going to be performing on vault anyways so it’s not a big deal.” That kind of threw me for a loop because I would have thought they’d put McKayla in on floor for quals at least (before the toe).

I’m still kind of mad that a person can sit their second vault and still “almost” win a gold medal. That’s wrong. I would think the “best vaulter” would have two solid vaults with good execution over one awesome vault and one sit-down vault. I’m glad they are changing the code.

      • sainabou nyang Says:

Marta cant use the same trick for rio. There will be no room for specialist. If Marta has any brain cells the rio team needs to be all arounders or at least be good on three events. Im my opinion being strong on two events won’t be good enough the next Olympics.

I see with the next quad that usa will have good vaulters and mckayla bette train that TTY quick before Simone biles does it. Lol

      • Kazic Says:

Saina I don’t think Mckayla has even looked sideways at a gym at this point lol. She’s too busy on instagram, lol. I am torn part of mw would love to see Biles nail the TTY, but MM is awesome and deserves it too. I just need more skills name after Americans.

      • sainabou nyang Says:

How much time do these girls need to spend In the gym do you think for the tour?

      • Kazic Says:

No idea. The tour showcases rather watered down gymnastics, so probably not that much (at least compared to the Olympics).

  14. Gymnerd Says:

“While she is out touring the country, Raisman said she will be doing one thing that all her high school friends did a year ago: looking at colleges.

β€œI’ll visit schools and decide where I want to go,” she said, adding that she does not want to stay local. β€œMaybe LA or New York.” ”

Hmmm….doesn’t sound like she plans on continuing to Rio….. 😦

    • sainabou nyang Says:

I think we’ll really know after the tour. My vote is still for just kyla to return for rio.

Aly is 18 and ready ro explore and do things that kids her age do.
Mckayla just like Gabby is underestimating how much distraction she’ll have that will make training hard.

      If these girls

      • Dee Says:

Yea I don’t see anyone (except for Kyla) being able to continue due to media, etc. Kyla manages to stay under the radar pretty well. If anything, we will have a repeat of this quad when after 2.5 years the endorsements dry up and they all bum rush to do a comeback so that they can give Rio a go. I hope not but that’s what I see happening.

      • sainabou nyang Says:

That’s what i think will happen too dee. There will be too many distractions and after the tour I don’t think any except for kyla who is not doing full tour will be in shape for American cup next year.

      • Kazic Says:

I love Aly, but I don’t think her returning is realistic. She’ll be too old and our roster is just too deep. The only reason you see people like Ponor hanging around for 3 Olympics is because their country doesn’t have a deep well of talent, so there is room for them to stay.

Chuso is the exception. She a cyborg/vampire/ninja/robot.

      • sainabou nyang Says:

Lol on Chuso the vampire. I give her mad props for staying in the game that long. If I see her at another olympics I’ll pass out from shock.

      • Kazic Says:

It’s the only explanation. She can’t be a human being. She definitely has my respect, she’s a beast.

Apparently she is going back to her home country (Uzbekistan) to become the head coach of the wpmen’s national team there. That’s what I heard anyway.

    • Guest Says:

Maybe she realised that comeback to next Olympic is extremely hard for US gymnasts. She may be satisfied with winning 2 golds 1 bronze and the media hype during and after the Olympic. Just looking the History, the last gymnasts having competed more than one Olympic are Dawes and Amy Chow in 2000. Then no one can make the second Olympic attempt in these 12 years. I think Romania is excellent at keeping gymnasts in high competing level longer time like Izbasa and Ponor.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

I have to laugh because HOW long has Shawn Johnson been talking about college now, and she obviously didn’t mind putting that aside for something as lame as DWTS (sorry, I think it’s one of the lamest shows out there – I have too much respect for ballroom dancers to think these reality whore – for the most part – Hollywood personalities can really pick up ballroom dancing in the span of a couple weeks/months). I’ll bet she’s hoping she can stretch the fame train out at least one year longer, then she’ll be going to Stanford or wherever at the tender age of 21. Hahahaha.

I agree wholeheartedly with Dee here. I think these girls will ride the endorsement wagon until it dries up (approximately one to two years from now) and then reconsider a comeback. That’s how it worked for Shawn Johnson. I don’t think her timing was all that “random” I think it had a lot to do with she was no longer a priority for her sponsors.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

And “these girls” are the four besides Kyla. From what I can gather she’s already in the gym training again.

        Go Kyla!

I really hope she gets a chance to get an individual medal in Rio. Gabby should have given her beam spot to her; she would have totally got a bronze I think. Gabby obviously had no fire in her to compete whatsoever after winning the AA title.

      • JAS4 Says:

I agree after Gabby’s performance on bars EF and saying she was tired then why didn’t she give her beam spot to Kyla who could have medaled and Kyla was also the back up for bars if Gabby had decided not to do bars EF but it wouldn’t have mattered for bars because no American would have been on that podium unless everyone else fell

      • Guest Says:

I feel Kyla’s role is like Bridget Sloan in the previous Olympic. Youngest in the team and performed little. She may shine in the next year’s World Championships, but making the team in Rio is too early to say unless the newbies of 2016 cycle flop like that of 2000.

      • Kazic Says:

If there’s any of the 2012 squad that’s one to watch for 2016, it’s Kyla.

I’ll agree with the group here and say that Gabby should have given the beam spot to Kyla if she was over competition. Let someone who has a shot take it if you don’t want it.

  15. sainabou nyang Says:

AJ just reported that Carly Patterson is getting married this fall.
No word yet if Nastia is invited or in the wedding.

    • Dee Says:

I still think it is weird she is getting married. Not sure why.

It doesn’t seem like it is a gymnast filled wedding, based on twitter. I think the people In it are mostly her family. I’d be surprised if she didn’t invite some WOGA people but then again who knows how much she kept in contact with them after Athens.

    • Gymbee Says:

Yeah she’s been tweeting and planning for months already. Judging from her tweets back in march, I thought she was getting married really soon, but I think it’s in november? I was surprised how early she was with the planning haha.

      • mim Says:

it’s pretty normal to plan a wedding for over a year! 12-18 months seems like a pretty standard timeframe.

      • Gymbee Says:

Yeah I know (from experience! πŸ™‚ ) but she seemed to have bridal showers and stuff a whole 9 months before. I thought those were meant to be closer to the wedding πŸ™‚

      • sainabou nyang Says:

I’ve only seen a few pics of Carly and nastia ovee the years but I wonder if they are close friends?

I wonder if Chelsea wilk invite Nastia to her wedding next year? πŸ™‚

      • Aerial Says:

It seems a more wealthy Southern thing to celebrate a marriage for all the months leading up to it with multiple expensive parties, showers, etc. It must be a busy time for the first clan of Wogettes with three of them getting married within a few months of one another (Nikki Childs, Carly Patterson – I’ll group her in with the originals based on general age – and Megan Dowlen.)

On another note, Hollie Vise is shacking up with tres wealthy Olympic alternate Alex Naddour in Arizona, I heard they were building a huge house from desert-up. And another kinda bad tattoo (Geddert’s takes the cake… how awful) would be Naddour’s giant “LONDON” in curvy letters taking up his entire inner bicep.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Krystal Uzelac got married a few days ago

  16. sanitynmotion Says:

Here’s another random thing I’m irritated about. The tie breaker methodology for the women’s AA final. If they focus on execution scores for the event finals, why don’t they do the same for the AA? They should have taken the highest average E score over the four events and the winner there gets the medal. The way they did it basically gave the advantage to the person with the weakest event, and basically rewarded a fall. Stupid. I love Mustafina – love LOVE – but I think they really screwed Aly over on that one.

    • JAS4 Says:

Yeah I think tie breakers are ridiculous I don’t understand why they just don’t award two medals but if they must do a tie breaker then it should be done they way EF tie breakers are done

    • Catherine Says:

I’d have to look up scoring, but Aly could probably have lost that way too. She had a weak event and a big mistake on another, and her amanar and her floor minus the full first pass would probably not have been enough for Aliya’s monster execution on everything except beam.

I hate tiebreakers, I cannot believe there were FIVE of them at the Olympics.

    • Gymbee Says:

I was working at the athletics events, and I got so exasperated one day when they gave away 3 bronze medals, 1 silver and 1 gold for the same event. Fine to tie in long jump, but not gymnastics. Argh.

      • Catherine Says:

Don’t forget the 3 americans and 3 jamaicans in 100m sprint! Ahh the equality of it all. IOC need to get their shit together and let the best compete and win.

    • Kazic Says:

Well IMO, people shouldn’t have been getting the same scores to begin with. Most of the E scores were too high (the full range wasn’t used), so we got tons of ties. In the case of a tie though, I think everyone in the tie should get a medal. I hope they change that for Rio.

  17. sainabou nyang Says:

So because I’m bored here at work I decided to jump the gun, pretend I’m Marta and pick a potential team for worlds.

This team is based on current seniors who assuming are healthy, training, have new skills, will compete well at scam, classics, nationals + the fab 5 I think are returning + plus incoming seniors.

    -Sarah Finnegan
-Kyla Ross (possible aa if she upgrades
-Katelyn O.=another aa candidate if marta has her way
    -simone biles/ ebee price
    -lexie pressman
    -maddie desch

    • Guest Says:

The next year’s Worlds has no Team Competition and only four quota. You may keep an eye on 2014.

      • sainabou nyang Says:

        Oh that’s right I forgot.
        Let’s revise it.

I still have Kyla and Katelyn for AA.

For event finals my predictions of who will compete are:
        BB= Sarah, Katelyn
        UB= Katelyn, maybe kyla
VT= ebee or Simone or lexie
FX= sarah, ebee, or kyla (if she upgrades)

      • JAS4 Says:

Since they are only doing AA and EFs I think they should allow more per country like 6-8 or something and they shouldn’t do the two per country rule either they should at least do 6 per country two AA and one for each event or something like that

      • sainabou nyang Says:

why don’t they do teams for worlds after the Olympics? I always wondered that.

      • JAS4 Says:

Yeah I wonder why it’s like that probably some ridiculous FIG reasoning like the two per country rule and making teams smaller gives other countries a better chance or some ridiculous nonsense like that maybe be its because they think countries need a year to rebuild teams or something after the Olympics the FIG is good at coming up with ridiculous reasoning and rules lol

      • Catherine Says:

Worlds alternates between aa and event finals and aa and team finals, right?

I like Ebee but I think she will be overshadowed by USA’s insane depth.

Kyla, McKayla with killer vaults, Lexie and Sarah or Maddie would be my best guess. McKayla can easily be taken over Simone with a TTY or Y double tuck/pike. Katelyn I think may have peaked, not sure. I think she will be at worlds, but maybe the one after that when she’s fully together. Kyla quite clearly has a lot left to give, Sarah back at full fitness will outshine Maddie and Lexie can be the new powerhouse.

      • sainabou nyang Says:

Cat do you think ebee has peaked? I hope not because I would love to see more from her.

I haven’t heard if Simone is training a TTY but fron what I’ve read she’s certainly capable.

I went back and watched Sarahs routine at Visas this year on beam. So lovely to watch.

      • Catherine Says:

Not sure, possibly. I never understood the gigantic fuss about her not making the team. While on paper it looked outrageous, in reality she could not replace any of the girls on their events and score higher. Any other country would be beyond thrilled to have her and her power, it’s mad the way that she might fall through the cracks. I don’t see her at worlds next year, because she isn’t an event specialist and would most likely be outscored all-around by Lexie and an upgraded Kyla. I hope it isn’t the end of her, she’s a very solid addition to a team but it’s tough when teams are so stupidly small. Strong showing at nationals and maybe the lead-off in future team events at worlds if she stays the way she is now. At the moment, Katelyn looks to be the one who has peaked more than Ebee. Ebee’s problem is more likely to be being overshadowed.

      • mim Says:

sainabou i love watching sarah too. she’s so graceful. she performs to the tips of her fingers and toes like a dancer, which i appreciate. i’d love for her to emerge as the veteran star for 2016 along with kyla.

im really curious to see how ebee will fare too. it would be a shame for her to fall through the cracks between the fierce 5 girls and the new seniors rising up through the ranks. i wasn’t devastated like most were that she didnt make the olympics but it would be a shame for her to not get her moment in the next couple of years.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I have a feeling Ebee will fall through the cracks if she doesn’t up her floor and beam. I guess her bars are OK. If she got better choreo and even got a second vault she could totally go up against McKayla on that note.

For 2013 worlds, two girls are allowed to go to AA but is it also two per apparatus? I wonder if there’s a limit as to the size of the team – can it only be five?

Oh I hope Kyla goes and wins the AA…though I think it’s going to be a way tougher field in 2013 than it was in 2009. I think Komova and Mustafina will be making a quick return. And Yao Jinnan and Larisa Iordache have their own redemption plan I’m sure.

      • mim Says:

the russian national team starts training camp in the first week of september! they’ll be back at it hardcore. i really hope komova doesn’t retire, she seemed pretty hellbent on being “over it”… can’t blame her in some ways, all that training it always come second must suck.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I don’t think Komova has even reached her peak yet. She has done pretty well for herself considering what she’s gone through – mostly physically. She was the “it” girl in 2009/10 in the juniors field. She was unstoppable. Then she grew like four inches in one or two years and she had a couple of bad ankle injuries that wrecked her confidence. I think we’ve only seen the beginning of her; she has yet to mature as well (look how much Mustafina has matured since 2010). I really think Mustafina/Komova will dominate this next quad. The last quad was pretty much dominated by the US, now it’s really Russia’s turn.

      • sainabou nyang Says:

Mim I have a feeling that Vika will be back. If I am Alexandrov i would have long talk with her about her mental game, controlling her emotions, and developing a fighting spirit.

      • sainabou nyang Says:

I read today that Ebee received an award or some type of plaque. They asked hee about her future plans and she was quoted saying that she’s not sure yet about Rio but is focusing on worlds next year.

      • Kazic Says:

Sanity I think the dymanic duo of Komova/Mustafina will carve a path of bloody destruction though this next quad, but I wouldn’t count the US out yet. I think we will have some people that can challenege them.

  18. rhodanyc Says:

After 2013, the next two worlds will be team/AA/event. The year after Olympics is individual AA/event and then it goes back to having team (2010 the Russian team won gold, USA silver).

  19. Guest Says:

Shawn’s first DWTS all stars shoot with Derek. She looks slimmer than the years before. (If you don’t think it is photoshopped)

    • sanitynmotion Says:

I think she looks about the same as the years before – maybe I’m wrong. She just looks more “mature.” Now she won’t be able to get away with the whole “I’m only 16…I’m a baby!” thing and will have to dance all sexy and stuff. Which will still be weird to watch since to me she’s “Shawn Johnson, the happy/bubbly innocent gymnast.”

Seriously though what’s she going to do be doing after this? Finally going to college? She can only milk this for so long. And yes I am still irritated that she bowed out of training and was meanwhile telling everyone how excited she was to show off her new floor routine.

She’s not part of that gymnastics tour is she? Nastia (the leech) is I’m sure.

      • Kazic Says:

Nastia is, yep. Haven’t seen SJ on the list.

      • sainabou nyang Says:

Is anyone fron her going to the kellogf tour?

      • Kazic Says:

      • Guest Says:

I think it is not a problem that Shawn performs sexy dances. In her first DWTS, she seemed to be able to handle sexier dance in the last few weeks. (e.g. PYT Cha-Cha-Cha) Not to say she is more mature and she has dating experience nowadays. But I am afraid Derek’s choreography would be to too hot and it is not such a good thing for her usual sweetheart image.

  20. Blake Says:

Hooray for nationals being in Hartford!! I live pretty close down in southern CT so I will definetely be going as well as SCAM. On a side note, I don’t really want any of the returning Olympians save for Kyla to return next year.
