Live Blogging, Mens Floor, womens vault and…………

I am done with this sport for the night. My loving boyfriend can see I am about to blow through the roof and has suggested we go spend the night doing something that keeps my head attached to my neck:) He is seriously the best thing that has ever happened to me in my life.

I will see you tomorrow but it won’t be live.

Sorry people but I am still disgruntled and I slept through todays gymnastics. I woke up to see Mckayla fell and finished second. I went to nbc olympics and read an article and they didn’t even tell me who got third. This is out OLYMPIC GYMNASTICS WEBSITE people.

I am glad I slept through this debacle. Wish I had slept through the baseball. Are you fin kidding me Sox? I should have slept through the whole day.

Beth Tweddle doesn’t win bars tomorrow I am officially labeling this WORST OLYMPIC EVER!!!!!!!!!

I guess fixing the tie break rule was too much logic for Gymnastics to handle. I remember reading they fixed the rule but apparently they did not. That really sucks for Great Britain but it also leaves hope for Beth Tweddle, first Olympic Gold medalist from Great Britain and that girl deserves the Gold medal.

Ya still kind of in shock about the whole thing. And i’m at work. Sucks.

  2. Catherine Says:

So dissapointed. Would have loved fair scoring and a healthy Iordache for one. McKayla better be given a 9.8 at least if she repeats that amanar. Her Mustafina is great too. If we have a historic high AA score of this quad which was bloated and overscored, the least we can have is a deservedly huge vault win for McKayla.

  3. nero Says:

Tweddle better be worried. Mustafina got a 16.1 on her bars and now that Komova is 2nd again she could get a bump. She’s goes after them so I guess we’ll see.

    • Kazic Says:

I don’t think they will screw Tweddle in front of a home crowd. They might not survive lol.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

If Tweddle hits, the judges should give her a gold medal score. If she form breaks or anything though she’s taking home a silver or bronze at best.

  4. Han Says:

Have a good night gtt! How I would love to be a fly on the wall in Ali and jos room tonight or Komava and musty if they are sharing, although I wouldn’t understand what they were saying!!

  5. nero Says:

Shawn is in for a rude awakening. She’s got DWTS but after that nobody will care. It will be Gabby Douglas and the Fab Five. Mckayla will make a name for herself if she wins vault. Jordyn has endeared herself to millions because of her champion attitude, people will be pissed for Aly after tonight when she misses out on a medal because of a tie break. And Kyla is probably far from done in gymnastics

Pretty soon people will be saying, Shawn who??

    • Catherine Says:

Lol you keep saying ‘if McKayla wins vault’. Idk if you just hate calling victories before they happen but I can safely say unless the other finalists gang up on her and break her legs, this is gold in the bag.

      • Kazic Says:

She could fall apart? Bwahaha who am I kidding. Unless Tonya Harding comes back from the grave (I know she isn’t dead) and hires someone to cane her, it’s in the bag.

    • sainabou nyang Says:

Was shawn at the AA competition? I thought i saw her at the team finals.

Now that gabby is the it girl i forsee a new competition next year being called the Gabby Douglas cup or invitational

      • Han Says:

I think she was I think she was live blogging, peeked at her twitter and one of them had mentioning she was hugging with gabbys family and there were a bunch of as updates.

      • Kel Says:

There was a pic of her with Gabby’s family in the stands. Bet she was pissed! Chow also said something about how special it was to have an Olympic champion. Yikes! Guess winning gold on balance beam doesn’t count.

      • Anonymous Says:

I saw that too! In Chow’s defense his English is not perfect and he has said things that don’e make sense before. I am sure he didn’t mean for it to sound the way it did.

    • Anonymous Says:

And Shawn’s agent will still be getting tons of calls! They just won’t be for shawn anymore. Maybe Sheryl will be able to feed Shawn the stuff that Gabby doesn’t want, who knows.

  6. JAS4 Says:

Not sure if I even want to watch the NBC broadcast of the AA tonight lol

  7. Exgymgurl Says:

bright side is that it wasnt a WOGA threepeat…. UGGGhhhhh and yuck…. Still with her attitude she’ll make about as much $$ off that gold medal as Carly patterson did off hers… How much do you want to bet whatever is wrong with Jordyn is more than a stress fracture…. I think they know and they just arent saying….

    • JAS4 Says:

Completely agree I think Jordyn is more injured than they are saying but they are keeping it hush hush because they don’t want to look like they made it up or that they’re being bad sports about her not making the AA but she didn’t look like her usual self day one and I think injury is why

      • Han Says:

I didn’t notice when watching it but I just saw a close up of jordyn in team finals and her right ankle is bandaged up, is this normally taped up?

      • JAS4 Says:

I Don’t think its normally taped not sure though but the stress fracture is supposed to be her ankle though

    • Kazic Says:

      Why do you think that?

      • Kel Says:

It has been reported that Jordyn has a stress fracture…it sounds like she has been dealing with it for a few weeks. Have to wonder if it affected her.

      • Dee Says:

What? When did this stress fracture info come out? Where is it? Leg? Back?

      • Exgymgurl Says:

It was rumored after trials, during Marta’s death camp, and thenconfirmednin a few different places. geddert said shed see a dr about it after the Olympics, but she’s definitely broken.

  8. Han Says:

Off topic but I like Bridget Sloan but I find it a little off that she hasn’t tweeted congrats to any of them, she has been tweeting recently. Not sure if Asac or chelsie has. Rebecca bross has been awesome, it must be hard for her but she has been an awesome cheerleader for them!

    • sainabou nyang Says:

I dont even recall asac congratulating aly for making the Olympic team. I always found it funny that she referred to aly as her mini me when i always thoughtthat aly had stepped out of asac shadow.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

I’m sure most of the ’08 quad (those attempting comebacks specifically) harbor a bit of resentment against this quad, through no fault of this quad’s of course. The ’08 girls were favored for gold and failed to deliver. This quad did it – and captured the attention of the US. The ’08 girls probably now feel lost and forgotten about, which is fine with me. I like this group of girls. They seem to be great people individually (well, for the most part – I’ll give Gabby some benefit here even though she’s cocky as sh*t, she still gives her team credit in interviews, which I appreciate) and they aren’t all about themselves or drama (again, “for the most part”).

I like that Nastia is no longer the golden “it” girl. She needed to be left behind like, two years ago.

Let’s face it Gabby is a better gymnast than even Shawn or Nastia. She really went out and did her job today. She had loads of talent and kudos to Chow for taming it and making her what she was. Chow almost needs a gold medal of his own here.

Sad and disappointed for Aly because I totally agree the media has always been not fair to her. She’s always been overlooked and when she has reason for attention, it’s still not in a positive light but “oh, Aly took away what should have been Jordyn’s.” That sucks. If Aly had done her thing on beam though at least she would have made podium. Now she’s always going to be considered the girl that gets the chance and then flubs and gets fourth place. Sad but true. Maybe this will cause for her to stick around a little longer though.

I can’t see Gabby sticking around because she’s basically at her peak and can’t really get any better than this. Team AND All Around gold? Wow. And to think she didn’t even qualify for the AA in 2011 worlds.

The scoring has always been a crap shoot but the deserved winner won, lets face it. It kind of does remind me of ’08 when Nastia beat Shawn. The mistake happened at vault and even though Shawn went out and performed a stellar floor routine, she could just not catch up enough. But at the end of the day Nastia probably should have had it. It just should have been “closer” between the two.

    • Gymbee Says:

Alicia has tweeted them, she called them “my little loves”.

    • (@lygill) Says:

Alicia tweeted the team after TF and she also tweeted Aly and Gabby a few hours ago. She was actually in London reporting for bleacherreport, I think. She tweeted that she’s now at the airport on her way home. Chellsie has tweeted her congratulations too.

I guess the 08 girls who tried for London (especially Alicia with her move to Kansas (?) where Brady Quinn will be suiting up and Bridget with the start of her NCAA career) are moving on with their lives. Good for them.

      • Han Says:

Oh that’s nice, I am glad they tweeted congrats. It must be hard for them all but these girls looked up to the past gymnasts so it must mean a lot to the new girls getting nice messages!

      • Gymbee Says:

Alicia’s moving to Kansas? That’s funny. Don’t really see her as a Kansas person, I’d imagine she’d wanted to live in NYC or LA. I guess if her bf is playing there though she’d want to live with him.

    • mim Says:

i thought the exact same thing. the same time gabby win AA bridget tweeted a photo
      of her dogs or something.

it said a lot without her even saying anything.

  9. elitefan Says:

Haven’t watched the all-around yet, decided it doesn’t sound worth taking the study time so I’ll watch it in a few weeks after I’m done with my medical board exams, but will definitely be making time for the vault finals…I love the appreciation from new fans for McKayla’s awesome vaulting skills:

  10. Kittykat Says:

62? Fuckkkkk thats gotta be some major over scoring, I’m dying internally right now. Have you guys seen this? Over at aunt Joyce the trolls are making excuses for gabby grinning while she patronisingly pats a devastated Komova…

  11. (@lygill) Says:

I wish the girls would just stick with ‘fab five’ – they keep trying to make ‘fierce five’ happen! McKayla has trouble spelling fierce anyway LOL

  12. sainabou nyang Says:

Does anyone think jordyn aly kyla and mckayla will stay close after this?

if thes gitls decide to to train for rio how do you think the vibe will be at the training camp?

    • nero Says:

They all seem like great friends. I think they understand that it’s the judges deciding the outcome and the media blowing everything out of proportion, not any of the girls

Gabby is on pedestal all on her own. The other four will be lucky to mentioned in the same breath. Even if Mckayla and Aly win vault and floor I think it will always be Gabby and the Fab Five. It is what it is, gym fans will always know what’s what but the media will eat Gabby up.

Jordyn will always be my favorite. I hope ALL of the girls will be able to make a name for themselves because they deserve it. They are dangerously close to being completely shoved back though.

  13. nero Says:

I don’t know what is worse. Komova winning, Komova losing or Gabby winning

Gabby win- That’s all we’ll hear about not just the next four years but forever. I’m a hypocrite, If Jordyn won I would want her to be on every talk show, every cereal box, every newspaper, everywhere. I’m dreading the love-fest that will happen. It got old with Shawn and she didn’t even win

Komova win- The artistry trolls constantly harping on this is how ‘true’ gymnasts should be. It’s a victory for the sport, especially after those American robots won team. Jordyn Wieber can suck it Komova is the greatest ever etc.

Komova loss- She wuz robbed!!1 Komova true Olympic AA Champ. She was perfect!

    I see it’s already starting.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Seems like it’s always like this, every Olympics.

Does Gabby even know what she’s just done? Did she celebrate it at all? I hope she did. I love those moments.

I feel like Komova expected it to be handed to her, and was surprised when Gabby was just that good.

      • nero Says:

If Jordyn would have won I wouldn’t want her to completely overshadow the entire team, but I feel like that will happen with Gabby

All Komova had to do was land her vault. I did see some more fight in her though, especially during floor

      • JAS4 Says:

I think it will be aggravating to me if Gabby is on the cover of everything and getting all the attention instead of the whole team but there’s a good chance that will happen the media loves to focus on an individual especial since USAG/NBC have been hyping Gabby (which I think she did a good job today but was still over scored) since the American cup so I’m sure it will continue and over shadow the team gold

      • Dee Says:

Komova should have glued her feet to the vault landing mat and it would have been hers. As much as I did not want this to happen, Komova basically gave it away. I feel alright in the fact that finally in this quad the winner had no major errors. It was Gabby’s night, as much as I am in total disbelief about it.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I don’t agree. I think her floor score would have gone down the 3 tenths needed if that was the case.

  14. sainabou nyang Says:

Watching mary lou retton on access hollywood talking about aa. Neither her or billy bush can say komova. They pronounce it kum-ova.

  15. Kel Says:

I think all of the girls will be able to make a name for themselves for different reasons…Mckayla for her vault, Aly for her leadership and humility, Jordyn for her amazing performances in team finals and coming back from devastation, Gabby for winning the all around, and Kyla for being so solid at such a young age. They will always be remembered as winning the team gold together…what I read after the team final was all about Jordyn and how she led the team to gold. I think she will be just fine…plus I just do not think she would have been AA champion with the way the scoring was set up. Silver at best, bronze if both she and Gabby were in the AA final together. Would love to be a fly on the wall and hear Jordyn and Aly talking in their room tonight. I am glad they have each other…it will be Jordyn’s turn to comfort Aly tonight.

    • sainabou nyang Says:

Out of every one kyla seems content to be in the background and simply watch what’s going in around her.

      • Kazic Says:

Because she knows she has more to give the sport. In Rio she will be the vetern *fingers crossed*

  16. terrigymfan Says:

Let’s face it. We are going to hear nothing but Gabby for the next four years. She has been coming on and peaked just at the rigjt time.

Alll sports are about peaking at the right time really but none more than gymnastics. Time and time again we see this.

    • Kel Says:

Yeah, same thing happened to Shawn Johnson too. Nastia seemed done after her injuries, but came back to peak just in time.

      • terrigymfan Says:

Shawn Johnson, Jordyn Wieber, Kim Zmeskal – I’m sure there are other examples — there timing was just slighly off.

  17. JAS4 Says:

Don’t know if anyone has posted this but pretty interesting article

    • terrigymfan Says:

Thanks JAS for posting that link. I agree so much with that article. I also like the way she ripped into them for the way they piled on Rebecca Tunney at the American Cup. I became a bit of a fan of her after that just because I was so pissed at Tim, Al, and Elfie. I noticed Rebecca finished 13th in the aa today. Not bad for a girl who supposedly needed Dr. Phil back in March.

      • Kazic Says:

I have to say, I have been super impressed with Shannon in the live coverage. I don’t have a tv (long story) so I haven’t had to suffer through the primetime coverage. Shannon should get a contract though. She’s been fantastic.

  18. Aerial Says:

Not sure what I think about the judging – it was atrocious in team competition, seemed looser today – but I’m wondering… would this international panel of judges in Britain really prop up an athletic American kid over a balletic, elegant Russian? Not sure of that. Doesn’t Gabby have higher overall difficulty all 4 events considered than Komova if both hit?
Don’t set me afire here – honestly wondering.

    • nero Says:

I’m pretty sure Komova and Gabby have the exact same D score. Komova gave up on vault, all she had to do was take the one step but instead she took 4.

I was actually pleasantly surprised with her floor, I thought it was great she stuck everything and really fought for it. I really thought she was going to win, but her D score didn’t allow the judges to give her 15.4

      • Catherine Says:

What was the d-score given to Vika’s floor? BBC didn’t show. She has 5.8, but upgrade potential of 6.0. That would have given her an 0.2 lead over Gabby’s difficulty, otherwise they had the exact same.

      • Kazic Says:

Komova has no one to blame but herself. She opened the door. If she’d stuck that vault, she’d be Olympic Champion.

  19. theirway11 Says:

Is anyone else now worried about McKayla’s vault event final? She’s absolutely the deserving winner but I can see the judges not wanting to give the US three golds in a row.

    • gymglitterxx Says:

With Gabby scoring the same as McKayla in quals and almost as high in all around (if Gabby had stuck like McKayla they she would have scored the same as McKayla’s PERFECT vault from TF), I’m very worried. The judges are either underscoring McKayla and/or overscoring ALL the other vaulters!!!!!

      • gymglitterxx Says:

Speaking of overscoring, Gabby absolutely stepped out of bounds on floor, and was not deducted.

      • JAS4 Says:

I haven’t watched on NBC yet but I think her bars were over scored she did hit a really good bars set but compared to the Russians I would have thought more in the 15.4-15.5 instead of only being two tenths behind Komova on bars

      • Lauren Says:

gym… I was curious myself. I was watching the live feed, but did not see a replay. So you’re saying you know for sure she stepped out of bounds?

      • Catherine Says:

McKayla has no competition. Only Pena has higher difficulty than her, and that doesn’t count since she could get zeroed or else hugely deducted for almost crashing. McKayla has the best execution also. Now silver and bronze could be a good fight- Sandra, Chuso, Berger, Pena etc. but not one of them have a shot at the gold with her around.

      • gymglitterxx Says:

Yes Lauren they played it in slow motion and her foot was over, she was into the red on vault as well and again, not deducted. Also if Gabby had not taken those steps her vault would have received the same score as McKayla’s perfect vault from team finals. REALLY JUDGES???

      • Kazic Says:

I saw the replay, and thought she just managed to keep in bounds. *shug*

    • JAS4 Says:

Nothing would surprise me with the scoring at these Olympics lol but I’m more worried about BB/FX finals

      • sainabou nyang Says:

So assuming pena sticks that vault i see her getting at best a 16.7 deductions coming from her form. That means silver for mckayla.

      • Catherine Says:

Not a chance. She gets too much distance and not near enough height. The best she can hope for is landing in a seriously deep squat. What’s more likely is that her feet touch the ground before she crashes so that she still gets a score. Her sticking would be about as likely as McKayla underrotating and crashing hers.

      • sainabou nyang Says:

Even a bronze would be major for pena.

      • Dee Says:

I will be covering my eyes when Pena goes. Oh god I hate that vault!

      • Gymbee Says:

I feel calmer reading your posts Catherine! I’ve already started worrying about vault finals, I don’t think I’ll be able to relax until the girls are on their way home!

Anyway, I think double fronts are so ugly as a skill. I’ve only ever seen produnova land that nicely, but Penas are cowboyed and ugly.

      • theirway11 Says:

Ugh I feel sick about vault finals. I’m most anxious for that one. Has Pena ever stuck her vault?

      • Catherine Says:

Nope, Pena’s best landing has been actually landing it, though it was very close to sitting it. Crashing it to her back isn’t out of the question, it’s kind of 50/50 whether she will get zeroed for it or not. Even for Produnova is was a gamble whether she could get out of a deep squat, and she had far more brute power. She only has a three tenth difficulty lead on McKayla, and will lose far more than that in execution to her, even if she lands it. I watched subdivision 1 in prelims, and they would have had to watch it back in slow-mo to see if her arse or feet landed first. One week on, an upright landing is out of the question.

      • theirway11 Says:

Oh goodness Catherine I hope you’re right. Vault final is the last one I really care about (the others I’m just hoping to watch a good night of gymnastics and may the best woman win etc)

      • Kazic Says:

If Mckayla can make lightning strike twice with that vault she did in TF, it’s in the bag.

      • JAS4 Says:

I would love to see her do the TTY but if she could Vault like she did in TF again that would be great too! Lol

    • gymtruthteller Says:

No because she is that much better but Aly can say goodbye to floor gold. A Russian will win a gold medal it is just a matter of when

  20. nero Says:

You guys we are stuck with Gabby not for fours years but forever. Look at Mary Lou, it’s been fucking 28 years and we still have to put up with her. sigh

I hope the other girls continue. I love the class and poise they’ve shown I would be absolutely giddy if all four of them tried for Rio. It’s so weird that as a 22 year old these 15, 17 and 18 year olds are my role models

I’m not a celebrity person. If I saw Brad Pitt or George Clooney I’d be like ‘whatever’ But you better fucking recognize if I saw Jordyn Wieber I’d get a pic with her

    • Aerial Says:

Hahaha, you know it. I have a good 13 years on you and I’m STILL visualizing myself getting a pic with the Fab Five on tour this fall, hopefully with at least one of them having their hand on my preggo belly and passing on some gold medal luck.

It will be interesting to see if Gabby takes off as a star, starting tomorrow. Most people I know remember Shawn and Nastia. I wonder if Gabby will have staying power (like beyond a quad) and actually have the historical influence of a great champion. I think Mary Lou is an anomoly – the 84 Games were just weird and the States bought into all their champions, despite many of their actual challengers being absent. As we all have brains here, we know Mary Lou doesn’t truly qualify for the fame the general public catapulted her to. Sadly, the world is ruled by every-4-years gym fans and not us. Sigh, imagine how sweet the alternative would be.

      • Kazic Says:

I’d flip to meet Weiber and Maroney. Hell, I’d settle for a retweet on twitter lol.

Gabby will retain signifigance because she is the first American to get TF and AA gold, and the first Black Amercian to do it as well. I am not a fan of hers, but she deserves to be remembered for that. My hope is that she will inspire a generation of young black athletes in the sport.

My hope is that she doesn’t become a victim of fame, and that her parents don’t rob her blind lol.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

maybe Gabby wants to host a reality show or sing like Carly Patterson…. I know Gabby is on cornflakes now too, but…

    • tulip Says:

After watching and re-watching the finals, in spite of all the suspicious judging, Gabby was the best gymnast on the floor and came through without a major mistake. Chow just knocked it out of the park with her training approach.

Sounding like a broken record and repeating what has been expressed by all of you, starting with GTT, It is just frustrating that the scoring was playing favorites (all competitions) and it makes the fans question the outcome. If there would be consistent judging, less controversy.

  21. Dee Says:

    Did that really just happen?

  22. sanitynmotion Says:

Anyone notice how at the end while awaiting Komova’s score, Gabby was kind of half perched on the podium and Chow walked over to her and basically told her to stand up? Hah…really shows she’s very immature. I mean, this is the “moment of your life” and she’s just chillin like “whatever, I know I won.”

It was very anti-climactic for me. I got chills when even Nastia won, but this year in this very talented field I kind of just felt nothing. Maybe I got too into it leading up to the games, but I just really kind of feel like “whatever” about it. I don’t think that works so much in Gabby’s favor because if she wants to be remembered, everyone wants to have “felt” that moment with her. It was like she herself didn’t feel it.

Oh well. But yes we’re going to live with this forever. It’s pretty crazy the US has had the AA champion the last three Olympiads. Maybe now FIG will come up with a new “one per country” rule so that this won’t happen again.

Idiot FIGs. Hey, isn’t Nastia part of the FIG? Sounds about right.

    • Dee Says:

I’m glad someone else said they felt that it was anticlimactic. I cried when Nastia won, because Beijing was so exciting and it was down to the very last routine who would win. This time I felt nothing special watching it. Even the team final was a little non-special. Something feels off this Olympics. I wish I would have been excited for last night but I just am not. I’m hoping that things turn around for event finals.

  23. sanitynmotion Says:

Oh, and another thought. Shawn Johnson is probably sad/sick now that her face will be moved to the exit/back of her former gym, like Carly’s face is in the back of WOGA. Now anyone who wants to compete with Chow will see Gabby all over the place.

Yet if it weren’t for Shawn, Gabby wouldn’t have chosen Chow (supposedly)…although didn’t someone say how Gabby’s original choice was Valerie? Bet he’s kicking himself now.

    • sainabou nyang Says:

If she had gone to valeri who here thinks that nastia would have made a comeback? Rebecca would have been kicked to the curb.

    • Han Says:

I think Shawn will be ok. I think what chow said was probably just broken English, shawn spent her whole life with him and was the one that showcased his amazing talents, plus doesn’t Shawn still live in Iowa, she will be popping by every now and then to say hi I am sure! People that just starting watching this year are the only ones I can imagine not knowing Shawn. Shawn has dwts and Nike and I read was worth 9 million of something. She may start loosing the media but she can go have fun at college and get on with life, if the money is true, she is set for life! Shawn has the personality and great pr(can’t think of the word!) that’s helped her get where she is today, nastia didn’t and I am not sure if gabby will have it either. But then again I have never liked nastia or gabby for their personalities haha! Shawn must be upset that gabby bears her but i think Shawn is a generally nice person or very good at covering it up, she is all smiles with gabby and when nastia beat her she went up and congratulated her. I cannot do that, the emotion or disappointment would show too much on my face! Wow I am babbling now!

  24. tulip Says:

Nellie Kim gave the athletes their flowers after the medals. She is still the head judge on the D score and wields enormous influence over the other judges.
It’s possible that she was behind some of the strange scoring and implied favoritism. She’s been suspended for doing it before. But of course, the whole thing is needs close examination, which will never happen.

    • tulip Says:

To explain further: Nellie IS the D score. If she thinks that the judges got it wrong, it is her duty to tell the sitting judges why. She is the one who allowed FULL credit for Fei’s second vault in Beijing where she landed on her head and knees, thus setting up the bronze medal for an incomplete vault.

I say start there with questionable D scores. It starts and stops with her. .

The fact that they continued to hire Nellie after blatant cheating just shows they don’t care about the sanctity of their sport. It can get to the point where it’s no longer fun to watch when it’s so biased. If I were smart, I wouldn’t step near gymnastics as a sport. You’re not even in charge of your own destiny. At least if I get to the point of being the fastest in the pool or on land, I am in charge of my destiny and if I win I win fair and square.

It’s getting to be where this is just an exhibition sport dictated by few, and it’s not as fun knowing these girls are being manipulated after dedicating the better portion of their lives to it. I love to watch it but the continued scandals and cheating and even wacky overscoring are wearing on my nerves.

I had forgotten somewhat about the Beijing scoring, but now it’s coming back. I remember being frustrated when it appeared the Americans were being underscored and then the Chinese overscored. Also, hated when all of a sudden Shawn Johnson was being deducted for things she had never been deducted for when she won world championships.

They need to toss out Nellie Kim and start from scratch. Maybe find if a computer software can be made to judge scores. Also, get rid of all the stupid bureaucratic rules that eliminate “fair” play. The two per country and tie breaker rules are stupid. Allow a tie if it happens. It costs what, ten cents to make another medal? Especially if it’s coming from China.

      • tulip Says:

Not only is she permanently hired, she is in charge of the D scores, all international judging for D scores, and correcting judging errors in D scores. She can direct the judges and probably does. She is way up there in the FIG hierarchy.

I’d love to see the FIG wiped clean. Get rid of the current execs, starting with Bruno who is ultimately accountable for all the politics and funny business that seem to be more important than the actual sport. Bring in people who can be neutral and make decisions in the best interest of the sport. Let’s make integrity the priority!

  25. sainabou nyang Says:

part of me is sad that the games are almost over but the other part of me can’t wait for gymnastics in 2013.

Im ready to see some new faces, new talents. It will be hard waiting until jan for the american cup. I hope to see komova there older, wiser, and looking like svetlana khorkina reincarnated.

    • tulip Says:

I’m looking forward to 2013 too! I do share concerns expressed earlier this week that Nastia will try to come back and go to Worlds. Also, Marta isn’t going anywhere. Even if she tries, USAG will beg if they have to.

I hope that all the girls from this team continue at least to the next few worlds. They win and can help usher in the newer girls to international competition. And yes, I mean Gabby because the judges love her. And because I really like Chow and would love to see his continued coaching success. Also, anything that pushes WOGA and Valeri out of the spotlight is something I fully support. It’s good to see other coaching styles being so visibly successful.

If Nastia does try to come back, will she ever be FORCED to resign her FIG Athlete Rep position? Are we here at GTT’s blog the only ones who see this blatant conflict of interest that SHE raised how long ago?

      • sainabou nyang Says:

I see but with nastia they dont care.

Marta will hold on to that position until the day she dies. But lets say she does retire. Who would her postion go to? Im going with a former gymnast only someone not as obvious and who isnt a karoyli favorite

      • sainabou nyang Says:

What are everyones thoughts on the other countries(Canada, Australia, etc) and where they will rank in the next for years with gymnastics.

Romania is the country i wonder about. I see sandra retiring. If catalina stays on for rio god bless her.

I wonder what will happen with brazils gymnastics and if they will have a team ready for rio. 4 years seems so long but yet so short for gymnastics.

      • Aerial Says:

I was thrilled with Canada’s ranking and their hit competitions. (read: no mistakes, but still not capable of scoring high enough to be true contenders.) It’s still success and improvement, though! I remember when most of the 92 girls had full-time professional jobs and trained whenever they could like a hobby. I would love to see the current girls aim to maintain their standing, and for gorgeous athletes like Victoria Moors to work difficulty levels up to being an international contender. Love her on floor! (Too bad NBC completely neglected to mention anyone below China and other history-making moments in international gymnastics. It was at least worth a mention. Thank goodness I can watch CTV live and get a true international and friendly perspective on these games.)

Porno I am hoping retires. She frightens me. First gymnast since Bogi to give me nightmares.

I am ready to see a resurgence of Ukrainian and Belarussian gymnasts! Economically I know it’s not as easy as that, but I miss the variety of Russian styles and athletes out there.

I would like to see Iordache up there in the standings. What a little cutie on floor! Love her dance, energy, smile.

Will be interesting to see who sticks around from this quad – who retires younger than anticipated due to Olympic glory and going pro, perhaps – who hangs in there, who moves up to senior or other Olympic team candidates coming on strong for 2013. Especially curious to see what our 16 year old gold medalists choose to do!

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Yeah. About Marta. If I were her, I’d leave on a high note. This is the highest note she’ll ever get, having the Team AND All Around titles go to USA. If USA falters in the future it’ll be “oh that’s because we no longer have Marta.”

But knowing her, she’ll stick around until she crokes. And now nobody can really point a finger at her without looking stupid because of these Olympics. We’re stuck with her for good, folks. And whoever her successor is will be just like her or worse. Mark my words.

If WOGA’s biggest hope is Katelyn, they should be looking elsewhere if they learned anything from Bross. Ohashi is already showing signs that she’s past her peak. I could be wrong, she probably just needs to readjust, but she didn’t look as good at the last junior nationals.

I hope Kyla and Jo/Aly stick around, at least. It would be nice to see McKayla get a vault of her own – it would be well deserved. I don’t see Gabby staying on much longer only because she’ll want to take advantage of all of the opportunities she’ll be getting.

Worlds 2013 projections. Are there only five members again? It’s only all around and event finals, right?

I also wonder if the “fab five” will take a year off before coming back.

      • sainabou nyang Says:

Sanity i too have been wondering about the next four years.

Your comment about Katelyn od interesting. Ivr only seen her perform at pac rim and thought she was ok.

Usa gym havent updated their junior and senior roster on their website but im hoping as i stated in an earlier posting to see new faces and new talents. Id liked to see girls you never heard of come in out the blue and take everyone by storm.

Of the fab five kyla is the only person who i think will train for rio. Aly will stay another year for worlds so she can finally win an aa. After that its off to college.

Mckayla maybe but if she does she needs to train as an AA. Jordyn is the wild card. IMO I don’t think she’ll have the drive.

      • Kazic Says:

I’d like to see Mckayla get her vault too. I know she can do it. Kyla is young enough to continue, and I think she will. It’s why she’s been content to sit in the background at this olympics. If she makes it to Rio she’ll be the vet, the legend from the fab/fierce five.

Gabby doesn’t need to do anything but grab a snorkel and dive into the money, scrooge mcduck style😉 I think I heard Jordyn wanted to go to college next year. She may continue through her senior year and then quit when she graduates. I know her parents have said they’ve tried to keep her life as normal as possible ,which is why she still goes to a public school. I don’t know if she could make it to Rio, and if she couldn’t what’s the point with not getting on with her life?

That’s not to say I wouldn’t love to see her make it to Rio and kick ass. Just not sure if it’s feasible. All in all, I don’t think any of them will be hurting for cash or opportunities.

      • sainabou nyang Says:

Like sanity was saying about katelyn if shes peaked already then valeri is in troubke.

Kyla i have a feeling you ain’t seen nothing yet from her. I dont think shes reached her peak. Now shw has a chance to upgrade her floor and wow us.

      • Biyatch Says:

2013 worlds are an apparatus finals. i feel like they are only allowed 4 gymnastics, no tam competition.

blythe wrote an article about the american cup being in mass. in 2013, perhaps indicating that they are trying to keep aly around past the olympics.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Like they give a shit about Aly

      • mim Says:

i’d love to see sarah finnegan build up her confidence and become a force to be reckoned with. im worried it will be off-timing for her though (pity she’s 15 now instead of 13 or something!), so much time before rio to peak well-before 2016, get injured, decide to do college gymnastics instead..

she’s such a gorgeous gymnast to watch and seems like a sweet girl to boot. would be a shame for her not to make it to rio!

kyla is so young to consider retirement (actually i think most of the girls are except maybe for aly). i hope she sticks at it too because i also think she’s got a lot left in the tank and a lot left to offer.

      • sainabou nyang Says:

Sarah i would like see as well as ebee price. Im also rooting for my girl Sabrina vega.

I watched the recent woga classic on youtube. i watched Katelyn on beam and i was impressed.

    • sainabou nyang Says:

Im curious to see what peggy liddick continues to do with Australia in the coming years. If they can get another star like lauren Mitchell that would be an accomplishment.

There’s also been a lot of talk about mustys lil sis nailya. It must be hereditary but she has the same scissor legs during tumbling like musty.

      • mim Says:

i think peggy will have to rethink her approach. the aussies were embarrassing this year. she was pretty PO by their performance in prelims (the aussie media jumped on her negativity), although emily little did alright in the AA (15th i think, but with jordyn out, larisa injured, yao injured etc etc who knows how well she would have done against truly the best?). personally i think she made a mistake by taking 3 beijing veterans (aside from lauren mitchell) instead of developing the new girls more.

      • sainabou nyang Says:

I heard tht Lauren Mitchell kind of lost her spark in the prelims.

      • Catherine Says:

Lauren had a tear in her stomach muscle bothering her. That’s why she was crashing in training, but she got it together for prelims, must have been tough.

      • mim Says:

yep, lauren pulled through like a champ!

  26. The Dude Says:

Look, I know this isn’t a Gabby Fan Club Blog, but I think picking apart her reaction towards winning is a bit silly.

You won the All-Around. Yes, I would probably get teary-eyed, but if you ask me I think this kid is just either overwhelmed or in shock. She had never won a SINGLE major title until now (and that includes the American Cup).

She probably had no idea how to react to anything. Chow telling her to stand on the podium? Probably didn’t know she could do that!

  27. sainabou nyang Says:

Interesting article from some paper in st.louis.
They interviewed bela about the team.

Says the girls were not fazed by the other teams coming into TF because they were prepared.

He says the Russians were not the typical nerves of steel that were used. no confidence.

    • sainabou nyang Says:

Bela also says that the Russians performed like they did in training.

      • Kazic Says:

I also heard him say that the Americans winning is proof that the centralized type of training is best. That made me cry a little😛

      • sainabou nyang Says:

Lol bela loves that word. Hes also stressed in his thick hungarian accent that preparation preparation.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

Bela sounds like a cross between president strategery and gabby “Mr Ed” Douglas. ….. Except on crack…

  28. tulip Says:

So, who got up at the crack of dawn to watch trampoline qualifications? lol

  29. JAS4 Says:

    Wow just wow
Apparently everything has to be made into a race issue now yes it wasn’t a smart thing to do on NBC’s part but I’m sure the whole line up was planned before Gabby ever won they just didn’t think to change it

    • tulip Says:

For crying out loud! Talk about making something out of nothing! Grow up people… it’s only an issue to the people who CHOOSE to make it so. Those are the true racists, IMHO. My mind doesn’t go there and obviously neither do those of us on this blog. Can the girl not win the AA without people turning it into their own personal race concern? People can be so stupid.

  30. nero Says:

Apparently Gabby wants to train for 2016. I think she has the talent and definitely doesn’t look burnt out from the sport, but I really can’t see it happening. The girl will be in high demand for a long time, we all know what happens to gymnast’s bodies once they stop training.

If she gave herself 2 years she could probably do it, but what would be the point?

    • Exgymgurl Says:

She should go be on celebrity rap tar on vh1 and go the way of Kendra Wilkenson with her own reality show

  31. gymglitterxx Says:

    Please look at this,r:15,s:0,i:139

    • Kazic Says:

Looks like she was on the red. In the judges defense (I don’t say that often lol) they can’t be blamed for not have shutter like eyes lol.

      • Catherine Says:

It was really obvious, BBC commentators said so too. Begs the question of how they could mistake that one, she clearly fought really hard not to go sideways and then she did….she wasn’t going to fight that hard if it didn’t matter.

Watching these Olympics I get the feeling that they need one of use to stand over the judges shoulders and inform them when they are being blind and/or biased. Like ‘are you JOKING, knock that down..she had a wobble’ etc..

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Out of bounds or not Komova’s vault was absolutely horrid. She saluted the judges not even ON the vault podium. That’s what cost her that gold medal. If she had landed like Gabby, that gold would be hers.

      • Kazic Says:

I agree sanity. I have been shouting that at Russians across the internetz since yesterday :p And I happen to like Komova.

      • mim Says:

i was watching BBC too i didn’t think they said she went into the red but that she stayed in by a millimetre! some angles it looks like she’s out, other angles it looks like she’s in.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

OMG Meryl Streep would make the PERFECT Marta!!!!

      • sainabou nyang Says:

Its the beady little eyes that marta has and no one can do an accent like Meryl.

      • sainabou nyang Says:

I got it leib schriber -completely misspelled his name but the guy married to naomi watts. He can play a younger bela.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

She is over the line and was not deducted. Intresting

      • Exgymgurl Says:

what happened with the Canadian pairs that challenged and got a medal???? Because of blatant judging errors in figure skating???

      • gymtruthteller Says:

The French judge was dumb enough to say she cheated. These cheating judges will never admit it

  32. sainabou nyang Says:

Someone asked me suppose they make a movie about marta and bela and their journey to the us from Romania.

What actress would play marta and what actor would play bela?

Im going with Meryl streep and for bela…..

  33. Jazzy31 Says:

Does anyone else think that Gabby’s family will spend her money as fast as she can earn it? She’s only 16 so it will be another Dominique case where the parents grab everything away from her. I hope she keeps going until 18 so she can still have some income that she can control.

I wonder what the real deal is with the gym she left in VA? Did they give her tons of free coaching and then get screwed over?

    • Kazic Says:

I hope she gets a good agent to help with investments, and that her parents aren’t money grabbers.

    • Exgymgurl Says:

Yes, exactly…. And Cheryl Slade is not an investment counselor. The gym in Virginia has mentioned suing her for $20000. Her mom signed her to turn pro. she could declare herself an emancipated minor to get legal control of her affairs, but her mom is probably signing Gabby to deals that Cheryl sets up left right and center without taking pause and thinking about running her daughter ragged….

Slade had Shawn Johnson appearing at race tracks, and in taco popping Commercials with the Hamm brothers with no thought to anything. Imagine how inappropriate Gabbys endorsements will be.

      • Kazic Says:

Honestly at this point would be a better manager for gabby (And I am not even a fan of hers) than her mother. I hope she thinks about her daughter’s overall welfare-not just the cash.

  34. Catherine Says: Here’s the d-scores (and scores!). Glaring ones aside from Gabby’s are Huang Qiushuang’s beam getting killed on was great! And Aly’s bars outscoring Deng Linlin and Larisa’s…..both are weak on it, but not fugly. Very sad to see Larisa with a 5.6 fx, when she had a 6.4 and a 0.3 planned in upgrades. Vika had some upgrades for her floor, but kept it safe. Same with Musty. Looks like we saw barely any of the planned upgrades!

There’s also a screenshot of Hannah Whelan’s zeroed vault, clearly showing at least one foot hitting the mat first. SO. MANY. SCORING FUCK-UPS. Now, McKayla vault, Sui Lu/Ponor beam, Afan floor and Tweddle/Komova bars and I will be more calm.

  35. sanitynmotion Says:

Does anyone have a video link or anything showing Hannah Whelan’s vault? They of course didn’t show it on NBC considering she’s not American.

    • Catherine Says:

Found the screenshot. Apparently the code says ‘feet’ plural, and it’s not known whether her other foot would have hit the mat first and they zeroed it because they didn’t. But they would have wanted to look really closely at this before deciding- Pena was credited with pretty much the same type of crash.

  36. Kel Says:

My only hope is that Gabby does not win anymore medals at these Olympic games. I still think Mckayla will win vault gold and I think Aly has a shot at a floor medal. Sad to say, but I do not think Jordyn will win a medal on floor unless someone else messes up. Gabby might have a shot at a beam medal (especially with the gifts she has been given on beam). Let us hope she loses focus after her big win!

    • Jazzy31 Says:

Yeah she has enough. I wouldn’t mind if she gets a bronze on bars, but that’s it! I don’t want her to get a beam medal – I want Aly to do that. If Aly does her usual beam (not like yesterday) she has a good shot. I’ll be so sad if Aly doesn’t get any individual medals.

      • Catherine Says:

Nah Tweddle, Kexin, Vika and Musty deserve medals before Gabby does. They all have much higher SV too. As for beam, I don’t want her anywhere near that podium. It has to be Sui Lu- Ponor- Deng Linlin.

  37. sainabou nyang Says:

Short doc on mag 7. Interviewing Kerri strug.

  38. Kadie Says:

Can anyone post the discrepancy between jordyns Olympic sv’s and her world sv’s? Same with gabbys? I’m just trying to understand how jordyns sv’s dropped so significantly. And how gabbys bar score jumped so high in the aa. And how jordyns floor scored lower than gabbys.

Gabby, as much as I hate it, did her job. So I’m not arguing that. I’m still on the jordyn thing.

I’m not nearly as knowledgeable as some of you are on the sport. Can anyone explain?

    • Catherine Says:

Jordyn’s Olympic SV’s are beam 6.4 Floor 6.2 vault 6.5 bars 6.4. Gabby’s are bars 6.6 floor 6.2 vault 6.5 beam 6.5. In prelims Jordyn’s connections were shot down and she got 6.0 on beam. One of her leaps wasn’t credited on floor so she got 6.0 there. In TF she took that leap out. Gabby’s bars are usually given 6.5 or 6.4 as she misses something, the link I posed above should give whatever they gave her in the AA. I don’t know about worlds, I know Gabby upgraded everything, but I don’t think Jordyn did much except change her beam connections (for the worse) and add 0.2 to her bars for the new dismount.

OMG Sarah is back.m I love you Sarah but those blogs are so bad even I can’t link

      • Sarah! Says:

Best to avoid the most recent post, then. I love you, too. You’ve always been a fair and good friend online.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I love you:) and I am so glad you are alive and well and writing.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

People do not get your sense of humor hate. I can relate. That last hate mail of yours is the guy from the VA right? That sounds like him. I am going to get him fired. He wrote hate mail and bias to me here. I am working on it.

      • Sarah! Says:

I can’t reply to your other comments for some reason. Anyway, thank you for loving me and being glad that I’m aliv and writing – or at least trying to. I don’t know who the guy from the VA is that you mentioned. If it’s one of the idiots who sent me hate mail, please get him fired.

You’re right – some people don’t realize that I’m writing to ENTERTAIN, not to be totally serious. You get it, because you’re from Mass. Like A-Suk. And one of the current U.S. losers – Jordyn? Can’t remember.

Are you happy that Sandra won a gold medal? Are you upset because I raked Gabby over the coals?

I’m coming back here more often once I wake up and get back to semi-normal. Thanks for being a good online friend.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I am doing an EXPOsay as they say on people that send me hate mail. You would be amazed how stupid some of these people are to use their real e-mail addresses and they always leave their Ip addresses. You would think Tyra Bank stalkers and guys that work for the FREAKING GOVERNMENT would be smart enough to not use their GOVERNMENT JOBS to send racist comments through a place where I can see their IP and look up who they are.

OMG this is totally Veronica Mars. Seriously you need to send me the IP addresses and hate mail you get, we can compare because when I am in a totally bitchy mood I find out info on people.

I am glad Sandra won and Iordache needs a poor medal for all her injuries. Damn American haters, Only root for US gymnasts.

  42. Biyatch Says:

Great article about the media narrative about the Aly vs. Jordyn. Calling bullshit on the whole thing. (And basically calling out NBC as the hacks they are creating “drama.”)

    • tulip Says:

Finally! Glad to see this. Shannon should be hired.

      • Kazic Says:

I love Shannon. In general as a person, but in this case as a commentator😉 She’s done an amazing job. And she’s stayed class and not made it about her.

  43. Catherine Says:

Too much time without gymnastics…makes me spend my time exploding at dickheads on forums who want gymnastics out of the olympics because ‘theres no winners and losers/not competitive/it’s too subjective’ GTFO.

  44. Elitefan Says:

Did anyone else watch the mini documentary on NBC last night? Mostly focused on “the vault,” but it was nice to see their routines in a digitally remastered way…also my favorite quote was from Kerri — “we get up to the podium [for the medal ceremony] and I realize wait a minute, I’m the only one not wearing pants! And these pictures are going to be everywhere!”

    • sainabou nyang Says:

I saw it. I thought it was nice. what surprised me was that interviewed svetlana khorkina.

      • Catherine Says:

Ah cool, what did she say? Interesting considering she was such sour grapes about Carly!

      • elitefan Says:

She was talking about the cheering for the US on the floor while the Russians were on beam. It was a little confusing, but the gist I got from it was that the US of course can cheer for its athletes but it was very distracting and they also didn’t have that much fan support or something? Her English isn’t perfect so I’m not 100% sure.

      • sainabou nyang Says:

She also said though I’m npt sure the translation was correct was that you don’t hear Russian fans cheer that loud like the Americans. Over all she didn’t seem bitter.

  45. JAS4 Says:
Apparently Geddert didn’t stay for the AA medal ceremony there’s probably a logical reason or he is pissed with the over scoring lol he has been tweeting/retweeting about the Russians being over scored but hasn’t and probably can’t say anything about it but I wonder if he will speak out after the Olympics

    • Catherine Says:

He is annoying me now. Russians have been overscored but he’s such a hypocrite if he thinks Gabby’s scores were not. If he DOES think Gabby’s were but obviously can’t say so then he should STFU and not mention any overscoring, he;s just complaining about one side of the story. Gabby’s were more blatant anyway.

  46. gymnastwannabe Says:

I was somewhere w/out internet access on the day of the indiv AA. I had to watch it unfold on NBC (sigh). Then I had to deal with all my emotions/opinions on my own…you all r like my support group : ) I’ve enjoyed coming home today and reading all your comments. Here are mine: Congrats to Gabby. The best but overscored. My heart broke for Aly. She is now my absolute favorite. From what they showed on NBC, she held herself together and congratulated Gabby. I was shocked and so disappointed that NBC didn’t hardly mention that she tied! She was forgotten about before she even tied, I guess. Perhaps she should have gone in the corner and cried to get some sympathy and attention…not that I’m making fun of Jordyn or any other athlete who has cried…I’d cry, too, for sure! I just feel if Aly had won and Jordyn or Gabby tied for 3rd, the headlines would still be all about them. Aly is a rock, all class, and a true leader. I SOOO hope she gets to stand on the podium with a gold medal around her neck b/f this is all over.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I did not watch NBC’s broadcast are you telling me they made no deal at all when Aly tied? Wow if Gabby had lost out they would have had a scenario like what happened in Figure Skating in 02.

      • JAS4 Says:

Yeah it was basically like she lost the tie braker oh well instead of bringing attention the yet another ridiculous rule they ignored it

      • gymnastwannabe Says:

Yeah, I felt like they hardly even mentioned that she tied. It was awful. I understand it is a rule and the rule was in place b/f the competition….but I thought they could have “atleast” felt sorry for her. There was “nothing.” She’s above all the others, imo, when it comes to class. She hugged Gabby and kept her composer…amazing.

  47. mim Says:

hoping mckayla rocks her vault tonight! really want to see another vault(s) from her like in team finals.

hoping chuso and izbasa get medals too.

  48. kittykat Says:

Ok, I’m a little late to the party, but here are part 1 of my AA final observations🙂
    – Why did they show Ferrari’s bars? Uglier than Raisman’s
    – I’m sure Hannah Whelan is a lovely girl but I despise her gymnastics, it’s laboured, undynamic and just plain ugly. That said, she shouldn’t have received a zero vault. Good work judges
    – Deng Linlin’s leotard is loveeelyyyy and she got lowballed on beam. Thought her set was nicer than Komova’s or Douglas’s
    – Why do they keep showing me Seitz? Sure, show me her UB, but I don’t want to see her BB or FX
    – Dang, I really wanted to see Qiushuang’s floor
    – Mustafina, y u jump off beam??
    – I ADORE Iordache on floor, especially this routine. Even with majorly watered down tumbling, freaking awesome

    • Catherine Says:

Showing gymnasts outside of the top few is almost always welcome in my book. Ferrari attacks the bars, it’s fun to watch. I loved loved loved seeing Marta Pihan’s floor, Asuka Teramoto’s beam and Rie Tanaka’s floor.
I really like Hannah’s floor. She’s a good performer and a strong all-arounder. Her beam I would agree with though- it looks like she’s trying really hard, and it shouldn’t. Zeroes vault is an outrage after seeing the screenshot. Arseholes.
Huang Qiushuang is the one who really got shot down on beam. Granted her SV is lower but she scores a whopping 1.4 lower than Gabby for a BEAUTIFUL set with no wobbles. WTF? Her SV is about 0.5 less.
I like Seitz and enjoy seeing a diverse set of gymnasts. Maybe just use the time to catch up with twitter or blogs in future!
I love Iordache. I am GUTTED for her, gutted. I really hope she can come back strong and show her full potential.

      • Kittykat Says:

I agree, I’m all for diversity, I just wish they’d show me someone pretty!😛 like Jessica Lopez or sofi gomez. But yes, Marta Pizan was awesome, girls got spunk. I can’t get into Seitz on anything but uneven bars or Ferrari on anything. I find Whelan’s landings on floor tend to be consistently low and heavy, but that could just be me!

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Blah I like judges doing their F******* jobs. So far, judges suck

      • Kittykat Says:

        Wheeeee *pihan, gotta love typos

  49. sainabou nyang Says:

So I watched trampoline finals because that was as close to gymnastics as you can get until event finals and surprisingly al, tim, and elfi weren’t that annoying.

  50. sainabou nyang Says:

Is anyone watching events finals live? I’ve been reading Blythes quick hits from my phone and so far Kohei nailed his floor routine.

    • mim Says:

i’ve got men’s floor on in the background but will really just watch women’s vault when it comes on soon.

  51. Anonymous Says:

Is anyone having trouble watching mens floor live? I am getting tennis on the live stream….

  52. Gymbee Says:

    Who’s watching vault finals?
Brittany Rogers, Canada, 14.766 on DTY. Second vault a bit sloppy, 14.2. 14,483 overall.

  53. Luckystar Says:

    Anyone watching vault finals?

Brittany Rogers landed her vaults (not a medal contender tho). GO Canada!

  54. Luckystar Says:

    Anyone watching vault finals?

Rogers landed her vault! GO Canada!

I can’t wait to see Mckayla.

  55. Luckystar Says:

Is anyone watching vault finals. I can’t wait to see Mckayla!

Brittany Rogers landed on her feet. Now Ellie Blacks going. Go Canada!!!

  56. Luckystar Says:

Is anyone watching vault finals. Mckayla is just pacing back and forth lol

    • Luckystar Says:

Sorry for my 5000 posts for some reason they weren’t showing up on my screen. Feel free to delete them gymtruthtellers.

  57. Luckystar Says:

    Pena sat her vault.

    • mim Says:

i can’t believe she tries for such a difficult vault.. it’s scary, looks like she will break her ankles when she lands!

      • Luckystar Says:

Yeah the Canadian commentators were talking about how it’s dangerous not only for herself, but for the other girls because she’ll still get a high score for a vault she doesn’t have the strength to land so it encourages the others to try more dangerous vaults they don’t no how to do, leading to more injuries.

  58. Luckystar Says:

    I love oksana chusovitina!

    • sainabou nyang Says:

chuso after the games is going back home to Uzbekistan to coach their national. Good for looking forward to seeing gymnast fron that country in the coming years.

    • mim Says:

6 olympics, she’s a machine! love it. nothing but respect.

      • Kazic Says:

Seriously don’t know how she can still be at the level she is after so long. She’s a class act. And she’s definitely paid Geremany back for treating her son, lol.

  59. Luckystar Says:

I hope they don’t underscore Mckayla to avoid another USA gold. I don’t think they will tho because it’s so hard to justify.

    • mim Says:

paseka’s amanar wasn’t as good as we’ve seen from mckayla in the past. came off the mat.

hoping mckayla gets fair scores too. still fuming over her 9.7 execution from team finals.

  60. Luckystar Says:

Mckayla lands a bit out of bounds but is flawless as usual.

  61. Luckystar Says:

    15.866 for her first vault

She sat her 2nd vault OMG

  62. Luckystar Says:

She’s still in first but Izbasa could win.

  63. Luckystar Says:

Sandra Izabasa wins. I feel sick…

    • Gymbee Says:

Me too😦 Maroney! I bet she’s furious at herself.

      • mim Says:

just proves there are no guarantees.
oh man. if i feel this sick i can only imagine what she’s feeling.

SERIOUSLY what is with the olympics this year?

    • tulip Says:

Me too. strange scoring too. Paseka lands both feet off mat and gets another gift. Sick for Maroney.

      • mim Says:

the BBC commentators didn’t make a big deal of paseka basically running off the mat at all.. bizarre.

  64. mim Says:

fuck fuck fuck ohhhhhhh man. dammit.

    • Lauren Says:

omg i didn’t see it!!! my feed wasnt’ working so I gave up! I’ll see it tonight!!! HOLY CRAP!!!

    • Lauren Says:

I will say, though. That I am of the opinion that a fall should never win…. i can’t believe it. Do you think she just got over hyped after how great she was in team? Was it under rotation? what happened??

      • mim Says:

im not mad sandra beat her, im mad she fell!
i just can’t understand it, she’s always always always ON.
it’s never a good thing to think you’ve got it in the bag before it’s over, but surely that kind of confidence gets you through?

      • Lauren Says:

oh no mim, i wasn’t saying you were mad that sandra won. I just meant there might be SOME people that think she still should win because her Amanar is so much better. Taht’s all. But yeah. I’m sure after having hte whole world say she did the best vault ever, it did get to her head.

      • Lauren Says:

although, even her Amanar was OOB wasn’t it??

      • Anonymous Says:

looked like she was trying to go for the stick (which she did not need)! she only needed to stay on her feet. biggest disappointment of these games

      • mim Says:

oh yeah im sure people will think that! yep amanar was OOB😦

hopefully this fires her up for a triple twist “maroney” vault if she was thinking of retiring..

      • Lauren Says:

I’m most definitely watching this tonight! (unfortunately, the place I’m at has super slow internet, and I didn’t even bother trying to get the feed today). At least I like Izbasa as a person. This just shows though, you always gotta compete. People were like, “just hand her the gold.” This is why they have the finals…geez Louise.

      • Luckystar Says:

She tried to stick it, and that messed her up. If she had done a messier landing, but a landing on her feet she would have been fine.

      • mim Says:

i guess she was maybe trying to overcompensate for going OOB on the first vault?

      • sainabou nyang Says:

Im happy for sandra but damn mckayla wtf.

  65. Johnsonlover Says:

Mckayla didn’t win vault. Officially pissed off.

  66. Biyatch Says:

McKayla might have just opened the door for Aly to win floor.

  67. Biyatch Says:

Oh and Alicia just through her computer out the window.

  68. mim Says:

BBC commentary “izbasa is very gracious isn’t she?”
she just beat maroney, of course she’s bloody gracious.

  69. Catherine Says:

What THE fuck. What an awful vault final. First Elsabeth Black gets a controversial zero for her first vault. Then is injured and can’t do her second one, poor girl. Then Pena crashes that monster and looks gutted! WHAT?? She usually looks thrilled not to die and accepts that it’s very unlikely to land..and now she’s gutted after that, what the hell? Must have been insane pressure on her to medal and make a name for her country.

Then Paseka is OFF the mat and gets a 15.4 what the HELL. That absolutely screwed Berger over. Maroney’s Mustafina..I can’t even..what happened there? Just…what? Her amanar was underscored until I heard it was OOB. But Paseka ran off the thing altogether- disgraceful. So it wasn’t underscored, but it makes Paseka’s score even more of a joke.

Sandra, wow. Stayed focused after upset after upset and rocked it. Thrilled for her, she could not possibly have expected that in her wildest dreams. Maroney remains the best vaulter in the world by far, lost by one tenth after a sit-down! Smiled on the podium when she had to, that shows strength. If there’s any blessing in her performance it’s that she now has unbelievable motivation to continue and get a TTY and perfect her second vault. Too much pressure on her here? Just don’t know..

    • mim Says:

i just hate that mckayla’s the best vaulter in the world but doesn’t have the gold. it’s so disappointing. make them do it all again right now and she’d probably blitz them. im glad she had the vault of her life in team finals to prove to everyone that she really is the best but.. everyone wants that shiny gold medal to show they’re the best. i doubt she’ll go until 2016 to try achieve that especially with too many strong youngins coming up the ranks but im really hoping for a TTY.

sandra’s maturity and experience really did pull her through though which was impressive.

however…. i feel sick by it all.

    • tulip Says:

Paseka scores a 15.4 with lesser form and nearly saluting on the judges table. Maroney scores a 15.866 with perfect form, higher amplitude and a much lesser OOB if at all. I won’t ever understand that.but these Olympics have shown consistent favoritism from the beginning.

Why not protest her first score? Even though it was a great score, it was a few tenths too low when Paseka scores so well.

      • Kazic Says:

Man. Can’t believe it. She’s still the best though. Wtf was up with that scoreboard though. Did anyone see how they changed Maroney’s scores like 3 times? Shannon was talking about it.

      • Catherine Says:

Execution can’t be contested, only difficulty. Another bullshit rule.

    • sainabou nyang Says:

Somewhere Octavian Belu is smiling from ear to ear. As that saying goes never count the Romanians out.

If mckayla returns to rio and Trains a TTY what is the D score fir that?

      • JAS4 Says:

Right now I think the TTY has a 7.2 D Score but not sure what it will be under the new code next quad

      • sainabou nyang Says:

If not mckayla i wonder if ebee will train for this vault for rio.

    • sainabou nyang Says:

Catherine over at Aj they’re saying paseka didn’t even do a full turn or the half turn so no way should her vault be counted as an amanar and berger should have been on the podium. Is this true?did anyine notice that?

Fuck I cant wait ti watch this tonight.

      • Catherine Says:

Yes I forgot about that in my rant here. It was a 2.25 JUST LIKE Shawn’s old favourite ‘amanars’. Low landing, Seriously, I got a total flashback of Shawn’s cheated ones. Not only did she then step off the mat..her block looked like a Tkatchev, better than Nabieva’s only because it was straight. If anyone was gifted it was that she was credited with an amanar and then grossly overscored for it. Have a photo of Paseka’s block on my blog, I am searching for a photo of her landing!

      • Catherine Says:

Also, I wouldn’t say ‘can’t wait to watch it!’. It was the worst vault EF ever. If you want more spoilers, I have a fuller breakdown of it here, including Paseka’s beautiful vault block..the vault did not improve after that point:
And here is the perfection of McKayla’s TF vault that we should all watch over and over again to help us calm down after that rotten event final:

      • tulip Says:

She didn’t complete the 2.5. It was a 2.25 and still falling off the mat. There’s no way she belonged on the podium. But Russian gifts are all over these Games.
Remember how the Russian mob was involved in the big 02 pairs skating judging scandal? Any chance of a repeat (j/k- don’t have a death wish)

    • (@lygill) Says:

Maroney’s Amanar wasn’t perfect, definitely not up to her usual standards. Great height yes, but her legs were a bit bent and she landed OOB. Shame about the Mustafina though.

I’m so happy for Sandra though – she was amazing!

  70. JAS4 Says:

I’m kind of surprised but then again nothing at these Olympics should surprise me lol

  71. Dee Says:

I didn’t watch live stream and went on FB this mornin bc I thought since Maroney was going to win it didn’t matter if I ruined it for myself. I had to read the results a few times before it sank in! This might be a bigger surprise than jordyn not making the AA. I’ll watch tonight …although I doubt I will still be able to believe it. She proved herself during team finals, though, and I think everyone still sees her as the best in the world.

  72. Dee Says:

    Oh, poor Louis smith😦

  73. Exgymgurl Says:

I love what mckayla said which was I didn’t deserve gold with a fall… I’m happy I got silver

  74. (@lygill) Says:

This may be an unpopular opinion and I fully understand that I may be bashed after posting this, but the fact that on vault a gymnast can get a medal with a fall over others who didn’t fall (Cheng Fei, and now Maroney) definitely has me upset about the current code. I really hope something will be done about this next quad.

    • gymglitterxx Says:

Well they already raised the deduction for falling from 0.5, to 0.8, to a full point. I think a fall just seems like a bigger deal on vault. If someone fell in a floor routine and still got a medal, no one would be mad.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I would. I hate it but AA is the only thing where a fall could not be the difference and I just changed my mind on that because nopw the judges are building in extra points for gymnasts like Gabby on vault, bars and beam so if she falls on floor it would make no difference. Or at least they try.,

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I was mad about a fall still allowing a medal in beijing. But its the codes fault not the gymnast’s. The landing is so much a part of what we consider to be part of the vault it’s surprising a sit down on one of two can still get you a medal. This time silver. If a fall happened on FX that wouldn’t result in a medal. Same with beam. Seems like this kind of phenomenon only happens on the vault. That’s where I think we have a code problem.

      • (@lygill) Says:

it would be practically impossible to medal in floor with a fall though, same with beam and bars. that only happens with vault, and that’s where the code really sucks.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Someone won a beam bronze falling the year Nastia won beam, maybe 2007??

  75. nero Says:

Oh Mckayla, I’m so sad for her. She was under so much pressure poor girl. They probably should have downgraded her second vault she didn’t need it.

I’m sad that she’s going to have to endure the endless people using this as an example of why she should not have made the team, or saying that she failed.

And Paseka should not have got the bronze, that German girl should have. Her ‘amanar’ should have been downgraded and even if it wasn’t how did she get an 8.9 E SCORE when she saluted practically sitting on the judges laps??

And Smith loses the pommel horse gold on a tie break, sigh. So we’ve had Jordyn miss out on AA because of the 2 per country rule, Aly miss out on AA bronze because of a tie break, men’s floor Denis misses out on the silver because of a tie break and Smith misses the gold because of a tie break

    • sainabou nyang Says:

So she did throw a scamanar? Wtf?

Here’s hoping that they score uneven bars fairly tomorrow. If beth doesnt get gold tomorrow those brits will raise hell in that arena.

      • Catherine Says:

I went to eurosports’s feed and got a screenshot.

Apologies the pause thing is in the way but it’s still blatantly NOT an amanar.

      • nero Says:

And only .4 less than Maroney!! I was really really hoping for Mckayla. She’ll probably have the hardest time of the 5 if she wants to go to Rio unless she becomes a better AA

I’m not sure they would take Maroney just for vault next time seeing what happened today. I hope she works on AA, her vault and floor are great and bars and beam aren’t that hopeless.

      • sainabou nyang Says:

since amanar is being downgraded, the next Olympics will mean no more one event gymnasts. Which is how it should be. the next quad needs to ne AA or be strong on at least 3 events.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I agree on no one event gymnasts but I don’t know if I agree with the downgrade of the Amanar. It is that much tougher than a DTY and we all know the judges will fix the competition through other events if needed too.

Fix the damn bars scoring so much higher than every other event. That is the real problem with this sport.

  76. Biyatch Says:

the girls have been pretty quiet on twitter this afternoon, i wonder if gabby, jordyn and aly are getting drilled into the mat/beam after what happened to mckayla.

  77. Exgymgurl Says:

paseka got bronze on a Shawn johnsonesque under rotated pseudo-amanar it should have gone to Berger who was in fourth. Izbasa went last and all she had to do was land both her cheng and her double yurchenko…. Because she knew Maroney fell.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I will watch it someday but I am on a NBC television boycott right now and that is not changing.

This is going to be another case of the team getting ignored in favor of the one hit wonder and I don’t have the patience to deal with it.

I finally saw that thing on the MAG 7 that I posted the pictures for and they literally gave all credit to Kerri. Shannon was shown twice, Amanda twice and the rest of about Moceanu and Strug,

16 years later and NBC can’t even get it right. 16 YEARS

  78. Kittykat Says:

    Oh mckayla😦😦
Has she EVER fallen on vault in competition before? I can’t remember ever seeing her do it

  79. gymglitterxx Says:

OMG McKayla better come back for Rio 2016 and win that vault gold! UGGGHHHHHHHHHH
