Live Bloggimg. Womens team finals

I doubt there will be much from me but please add all the scores you can in the comment section. I will do my best but my computer freezes every time I try and watch the video. It works eventually but it takes multiple times.

mckayla finally did the vault we have been waiting for and I found the Chinese were underscored. All of them hit and stuck their landings,

Anyone have the Romanian scores and the link for live scoring?????????? Thanks in advance.

Looks like China got lowballed on bars. The Russians looked physced out after the US vaulted.

This is over the US has this in the bag. Grishina’s score was pretty low. These judges have made up their minds. Usually scores go up but not for the Russians.

There is no way the Russians match the US on floor especially with Aly being scored the way she is.

Gabby was off on her release move is that allowed? (the feet to the side?)

Sui Li had a great beam from what I saw and Deng fell.

This is what kills me about the judges. This routine Gabby did was her best yet for her. Two bobbles, small and a step but it got the same score she got in prelims for a messy routine with missed connections. There is no way she should have been in the AA finals and wouldn’t have been if the judges had done their job.

Beam is like 20 second behind. I was watching floor and saw Afan dismount in the background and then 20 secs later Afan dismounted on the big screen.lol

Russia just tanked floor big time. Their whole attitude that all that matters is gold needs to change. I love Afan’s new routine and I think if she hits Aly might say good bye to the Floor gold.

I am so glad I will miss NBC’s coverage tonight.

The Great Britain girls were screaming for Aly which I thought was adorible and I need a Beth Tweddle bar score tonight

The US wins and now I get to go get ready to drink myself silly at the Fens. Congrats to to the US. It was well deserved. China was royally screwed on bars and China did a great job. I will only say this once . Don’t get used to it or expect it again but Gabby did a great job even with that gift floor score. Now I hope she chokes the AA away, woooo

OMG, Are we seriously wearing grey warm ups?

After looking at those yellow sneakers I am seriously going to get drunk now.lol

    Wow! Here we go:-)

  2. sainabou nyang Says:

wow 15.766 for he on bars. That seems low to me.

    • Luckystar Says:

Yeah she only got 8.8 or something execution and her routine looked near flawless.

The Americans might get hit hard if judges are that tough.

  3. Luckystar Says:

Awesome start for the Americans on vault. They hit 3 out of 3 so far. Chinas doing really well on bars though. Has anyone seen the Russians vaults? CTV didn’t show them yet.

  4. elitefan Says:

That was an AWESOME vault rotation. McKayla Maroney 16.233 for a STUCK amanar that is the best I’ve ever seen her do….love it! Is that the highest score of the quad in any event??

    • Cristan Says:

Lol, McKayla knew it was good too. Did you see the funny run/shoulder wiggle thing she did when she was getting out the podium? Made me chuckle 🙂

    • Casc Says:

It is probably the best score on vault ever (from 2006 of course) on the world stage competition. I guess nobody questions giving Maroney the role of “vault specialist” on this team anymore. I hope she will stick around, for more medals on vault and possibly for TTY (which should be scored 7.4 in code of points, since there is 0.2 progress : FTY = 5.0 1.5 Y +0.3 DTY +0.5 2.5 Y +0.7, so TTY +0.9 6.5+0.9=7.4). I know it is a big number, but this vault would be sick and totally worth it.

  5. Biyatch Says:

    48.132 vault rotation.

  6. Biyatch Says:

    Musty with a DTY

  7. Luckystar Says:

USA has a 48.132 after vault. Their nearly 2 points ahead of China’s 46.399, but the Russians haven’t gone yet…

  8. Luckystar Says:

Russia has a 46.366 after vault. They’re behind China and the USA right now, but vault isn’t their best event as we all know.

  9. sainabou nyang Says:

Wow 15.3 for paseka. Wonder where the deductions came from

  10. mim Says:

im not going to lie, mckayla’s vault brought a tear (or two) to my eye… just amazing.

    • Gymbee Says:

Me too! First time in my life I cried over a vault hahaha!

    • Luckystar Says:

To all the people who were wondering why they put mckayla on the team THAT vault is why.

      • Cristan Says:

Jordyn had a great vault too – it’s impressive she can come out and perform so well after all the crap she went through the other day. She’s a real professional.

      • mim Says:

i love that it was basically a giant “screw you” to her naysayers.

      • Luckystar Says:

Jordyns vault was incredible. I’m so proud of her. Also I’m glad gabby didnt bomb. If gabby loses USA this medal I will be super pissed.

      • terrigymfan Says:

Yes Gabby. If you are going to eff up, do it in aa finals, not now!

      • Gymbee Says:

        So proud of Jordyn! 🙂

      • CKY9 Says:

Yes! The vault rotation was SICK! I had a tear or two for Jordyn because I was so happy to see her nail it. She seemed to be in a very good place mentally so I was thrilled (and relieved!) to see that. McKayla Maroney, holy crap. She did what they brought her to do, no doubt. Is that the highest score or what? The only other 16 I’ve noted was Tweddle’s qualification bars.

  11. Biyatch Says:

i can’t decide if the stupidest ass nbc commercials interrupting shannon talking is a good thing or a bad thing.

  12. Luckystar Says:

Team Canada is in 4th. Omg.

  13. Cristan Says:

    Grishina on bars – 14.700

  14. mim Says:

im not missing anna pavlova as much as i thought i would.
canada are bringing it, they’re doing great so far!

  15. Biyatch Says:

    Russia 46.166 on bars

    • gymglitterxx Says:

Why are they scoring soooooooo low on bars? Russia got lower on bars than they did on vault! This won’t be good for US………..

      • sainabou nyang Says:

That’s what i was thinking regarding china. Was shocked he got a low score.

    • Biyatch Says:

      Romania killed it on beam.

Wieber: little arm bend on Weiler but fights and saves it. Hits the rest with hop foward on dismount. 14.666

  16. Cristan Says:

    Ponor on Beam – 15.416

  17. mim Says:

    15.416 Catalina on beam.

  18. Luckystar Says:

    Jordyn hit her bars.

  19. Cristan Says:

    Jordyn on Bars – 14.666

  20. gymglitterxx Says:

Notice GAbby completely ingores JOrdyn after her routine

  21. mim Says:

why does jordyn keep getting the devil’s number in her scores??? creepy!

my goodness i can’t breathe at the thought of gabby performing bars and beam. i can’t handle it.

  22. Johnsonlover Says:

I won’t even watch gabby’s beam…I will be hyperventilating the entire time.

  23. Luckystar Says:

Jordyn hugged Gabby after she hit her bars

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Gabby did not hug Jordyn after she hit bars. Everyone else did but she stayed to the side pretending to stretch.

      • Luckystar Says:

I was talking about after Gabby went on bars, not after Jordyn did. Jordyn congratulated Gabby, but Gabby didn’t congratulate Jordyn.

      • Casc Says:

Generally it looks like the ones that congratulate their teammate after the routine are “free ones”, i mean like either already done on this event or not doing this event. Jordyn was first on bars, and when she finished Gabby was preparing for her routine, so that may be the real reason.

      • Luckystar Says:

True. They were in the middle of the competition, so it was probably a pretty stressful environment.

  24. Biyatch Says:

    After 2: USA- 92.931, RUS- 92.532

    Holy hell. Beam next.

  25. Luckystar Says:

    Canada’s in third omg wtf

I know Romania and/or China will probably pass them, but still!!!

  26. Biyatch Says:

Aly pep talking Gabby. Kinda cute. “Like Marta says, every skill you hit it, you finish it.”

    • Gymbee Says:

Haha cute! Making sure if she’s slightly off she doesn’t just give up and hop off as usual. NERVOUS.

  27. Cristan Says:

    Gabby on Bars – 15.200

  28. mim Says:

i love you Beth but hate your floor routine.

beam .. dreading this. fear for gabby and 2am sleep deprivation bad combo.

  29. sainabou nyang Says:

another 13 for china on beam. Depressing

  30. gymnastwannabe Says:

I think I’m more nervous than the gymnasts! Come on Gabby, just stay on the beam!

  31. Luckystar Says:

My mom came in and was like ‘what? Our team doesn’t suck?’

Go Kyla. I love her beam. It sucks that it doesn’t get scored higher.

  32. Biyatch Says:

    GABBY HIT

  33. Han Says:

I’ve just started watching so not reading any comments yet as I am behind but my coverage just said “and now mckayla maroney, veteran of this team, 26 year old from California!!!” hmm does she look 26?!!!

  34. Cristan Says:

    GABBY STAYED ON!!!

  35. Luckystar Says:

    Gabby hit beam OMG!!!

  36. Johnsonlover Says:

    Gabby hit. Wow. VERY surprised.

  37. terrigymfan Says:

I’m not watching. Just following this blog. This is too much!!!!

  38. Cristan Says:

    15.233 for Gabby on Beam

  39. brainy Says:

    Kyla beam 15.133!! (worthy of 2x !)

  40. mim Says:

kyla’s coach looked surprised when she hugged gabby after her beam. ha.

  41. Biyatch Says:

    ALY HIT… obvi

    • terrigymfan Says:

Okay girls — no falls and no going out of bounds on FX!!!

    • Gymbee Says:

I was so nervous for a repeat of ASac in Beijing! No one thought she would come off the beam either! Didn’t want to say anything before in case I jinxed it!

      • Biyatch Says:

alicia was never the greatest beamer though… thats essentially why she didn’t make 04 trials. she kept ending on her ass.

      • Casc Says:

Actually Alicia was great on beam, but it was after Beijing, when she came back – she never has fallen again, and her routines at Visas and Trials were great (she was close to US title on beam from what I remember).

    • Biyatch Says:

      14.933 for aly

  42. sainabou nyang Says:

    Wtf is up with china?

  43. Luckystar Says:

You can hear mckayla cheering Aly on lol.

A bit of a jump on her dismount, but she was still solid.

Why do they put the awkward dancing in floor routines when all these girls suck at dancing. Floor routines used to be really beautiful, but now they’re just awkward looking.

  44. gymnastwannabe Says:

Ok, US, just don’t get a big head NOW. You messed up big time on floor on Sunday. Focus and hit!!….then you can have GIANT HEADS!!

  45. Biyatch Says:

Musty huge wobbles. Surprise she stayed on.

  46. Johnsonlover Says:

Ooooh…bad bad balance check for mustafina

  47. Cristan Says:

Komova on Beam (stuffed the dismount) – 15.033

  48. gymglitterxx Says:

Beautiful floor from Ponor. Komova steps off the mat on her beam dismount! I think USA is gonna win this!!

    • mim Says:

no no no don’t say that until floor! no jinxing! ahh.

    • Johnsonlover Says:

In order for Russia to even beat the Americans, they needed to be extra strong on beam, because the Americans will kill them on floor no doubt. I don’t see the Russians winning gold at all now, unless team USA screws up floor.

  49. Biyatch Says:

Komova got a 15.033. BULLSHIT SCORE.

  50. Biyatch Says:

    Heading to FX-

    USA 138.23
    RUS 136.931

  51. mim Says:

im not feeling pink floyd for sandra’s floor. i like a bit of dramatic flair for the music. praying that the US doesn’t screw up floor.

  52. gymnastwannabe Says:

Mustafina looked tired to me on floor. Komova looks intense.

  53. Cristan Says:

    Mustafina on Floor – 14.800

  54. gymglitterxx Says:

Wow CANT BELIEVE WHAT GRISHINA JUST DID! USA HAS THIS

  55. mim Says:

    Russia screwed floor
    omg

  56. mim Says:

ksenia’s tumbling is off the hook though…

  57. Biyatch Says:

I hope Mihai doesn’t downgrade Aly’s tumbling. Its team finals of the Olympics. Go for it.

    • mim Says:

i bet he wants her to show off it’s her big moment!
still have memories telling her to go higher on final pass in trials 🙂

  58. Johnsonlover Says:

They’re crying…the only strong one is ksenia, USA has this in the bag no doubt. Reminds me of the 1996 Olympics.

    • Johnsonlover Says:

OMG KSENIA’S LAST PASS A DISASTER, they’re bawling their eyes out. Wow…in ready to cry for the US..

  59. Gymbee Says:

Afanaseva just landed on her knees off her double pike!

  60. Biyatch Says:

    OMG. Afan fell last pass.

  61. gymglitterxx Says:

wOW WOW WOW, Russia just fucked that up

  62. mim Says:

now USA just has to hit and NOT LOSE FOCUS.

    cheering like crazy from aussieland!

  63. DL Says:

Haha meanwhile on the Canadian feed, we’re celebrating a possible fifth with the same excitement that anyone else would have for gold.

    • mim Says:

Canada has done amazingly well! 🙂

    • Luckystar Says:

I’m so freaking excited about Canada!!! I didn’t even think they’d make the finals now look at them!!!

      • DL Says:

Canada was way happier about fifth than Russia about silver.

      • Luckystar Says:

Haha that’s so true though 😀

      • Casc Says:

Do you think Canada would challenge for bronze if they had Peng Peng in their team?

      • Luckystar Says:

Even with Peng Peng, im not sure theyd quite have the d scores to rival anyone in the top four, but you never know…

I would have loved to see her compete. Canada brought her as an honorary team captain, but It would have been awesome seeing some of her gymnastics at the Olympics.

    • Aerial Says:

Canada’s fifth WAS a gold to them and I was in tears watching them so humbly and excitedly celebrate BY FAR the best finish ever. They were over the moon to even qualify to team finals – it was not expected, despite being a strong team. THIS my friends is what the Olympics is all about – the sheer joy and reward of simply being there, and the exhilaration of achieving not necessarily a medal but twice as a great a placing as anyone ever in the history of your country. So proud of them!

  64. gymglitterxx Says:

Jordyn just stuck her triple cold in touch

  65. Gymbee Says:

USA needs average 13.433 average to tie with Russia. (according to my awful math calculation)

  66. Biyatch Says:

USA needs to average 13.433 for gold.

  67. mim Says:

gabby stay in bounds for the love of god!

  68. Cristan Says:

Gabby is on Floor…and she hit.

  69. Cristan Says:

Jordyn is looking good so far….please please please do it!

  70. terrigymfan Says:

The fat lady is getting ready to sing!

  71. DL Says:

Wieber was awesome on floor. YES!

  72. Biyatch Says:

    Jo just KILLED it

  73. gymglitterxx Says:

Wow just cried on Jo’s floor

  74. mim Says:

treasure that moment jo! a true champion!!

  75. Biyatch Says:

    Aly needs a 10.234

  76. gymnastwannabe Says:

Redemption for Jordyn. What a great job today…true champion!

    • CKY9 Says:

Indeed! People always say… it’s not about how you win but how you get back up. I was not a big Wieber fan prior to this week but she’s tweaked my heart with her incredible grace and humility the last two days and her performance today was truly inspiring. I hope she is able to look back on London and this team gold medal with only happiness and knowing that she gave it everything.

  77. terrigymfan Says:

Her E score alone will be damn near that high! Go Aly! Go USA!

  78. mim Says:

    aly has this!!! 🙂

  79. DL Says:

Raisman downgraded but you could see the joy in her face while she was going for it. Eeeeeeee! So awesome. They did it!

    • Biyatch Says:

      even downgraded. her best floor.

    • Exgymgurl Says:

Im parking at sea world and Im crying for Jordyn getting her gold medal F the haters and I hope she and Aly kill floor Kyla Ross Jordyn Wieber Gabby Douglas McKayla maroney and Aly Raisman. You all rock all olympic champions. TY for the quick hits live blog you all made my afternoon

  80. Luckystar Says:

    USA wins gold!!!!

  81. mim Says:

    YES!!!!!!!!!!!!

  82. gigi Says:

    WOOOOO!!!!

  83. H Says:

    Congratulation USA!

  84. mim Says:

I am balling. SO PROUD OF THESE GIRLS!!!!

  85. H Says:

What a moment- Alys eyes as she landed that last tumbeling.

  86. Gymbee Says:

I’m so so happy and proud!! GO Jordyn, what a team player!!

  87. gymglitterxx Says:

Wow soooooooo happy for Jordyn getting gold! And all the girls but especially Jo she deserves this I hope now she won’t be so upset about the AA

  88. mim Says:

Anyone else on bbc…. cut off already! want to see the aftermath and medal ceremony!!

  89. gymglitterxx Says:

I feel strongly that Romania deserved the silver, Russia was grossly overscored

  90. Gymbee Says:

URGH BBC isn’t showing the medal ceremony!!!

  91. JAS4 Says:

    So glad they won!

  92. (@lygill) Says:

i may not be from USA but im so damn proud of these girls! way to step up for the team, Jo!

  93. Luckystar Says:

    Canada’s showing the medal ceremony.

They’re playing Chariots of Fire, and the girls are wearing weird purple outfits.

  94. H Says:

For you who are in Europa. Medal cermony:

    Go to gymnastic image

    http://www.eurovisionsports.tv/london2012/index.html

  95. gymnastwannabe Says:

Way to go USA!!!….but what’s w/ the gray coats and neon shoes?

    • gymglitterxx Says:

I know I wish for TF they had gone with red white & blue

      • gymnastwannabe Says:

When I look at them, all I see r their bright shoes!…LOL…it will be something they’ll look back at when their adults and ask “What were we thinkin?” : ) SOOOO proud of all of them!

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        YELLOW SNEAKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Biyatch Says:

its the official award ceremony gear from nike.

      • Aerial Says:

But some are choosing to wear their other jackets for ceremonies, aren’t they? Coulda sworn I saw the white/blue and white ones in previous days.

    • Aerial Says:

Considering the millions of dollars of fabulous outfits head to toe they’ve been wearing the past week and a half, they sure picked the nastiest colours and combos for the medal ceremony! (Although today, all the athletes so far seem to be wearing exactly the same… just saw swimmers accept medals in identical grey outfits.) Also really dark in the dark. But fuck yeah, they won!!!

  96. JAS4 Says:

The Russians actually seemed to be ok on the podium during medal ceremony.

    • CKY9 Says:

Yes, they composed themselves and were 100% class during the ceremony. I was very happy to see that because I was sort of expecting to see medals being ripped off in disgust. The Russians didn’t deliver today but let’s be honest–they’re a phenomenal team too and this could easily have gone their way. I thought they gave a solid fight and I’m very happy that they were happy with silver.

      • gymglitterxx Says:

LOL yes they didn’t rip their silver medals off their necks like Sveta that time

  97. (@lygill) Says:

dammit i can’t watch the medal ceremonies! i’m gonna have to look up torrent links tomorrow….

on a side note, Afan’s floor was beautiful – i hope she pulls it together and medals in the floor finals. same goes with Aliya and Komova in the AA.

  98. mim Says:

there’s a funny photo on gymnastics examiner of the for girls cheering and hugging… and gabby off by herself facing the other way saluting the fans. made me chuckle.

now have to find a way to wind all the excitement down.
4am and too happy to sleep.

    • Han Says:

      Wooooooooooooooooo

    • gymnastwannabe Says:

oh no, Gabby’s not in the picture w/ the other girls…guess they made her leave and not be in the picture like all the other times…or maybe Gabby is the one who chooses to not be a part of the group???

      • Han Says:

So hap for them, I can’t stop crying! But those shoes omg!! Outfit would not be so bad but the shoes are fugly!!!

      • Exgymgurl Says:

I think gabby was completely rude to jordyn and very disgusting in her post qual comments. They had to compete with her today but never again…. I dont think gabby will stay through 2016

      • gymnastwannabe Says:

CBS news also is posting the photo where Gabby is left out in the back…CBS needs to post a comment next to the photo like the girls did in their twitter “Gabby left the group on her own accord and is behind us looking for the crowd’s attention.”

      • Gymbee Says:

Oh no, the Gabby-lovers will probably turn it into “the four of them told Gabby she couldn’t be in the picture!”

      • Jen Smith Says:

I saw that moment, when it showed on the prompter, Gabby turned around and ran off, while the other 4 hugged. Then Gabby came in a few seconds later.

    • Kylie Says:

Typical of a me me me person eh. The US girls did so well today. Loving the live coverage we are getting in NZ… even if I do get up at 3 am to watch :p

  99. Johnsonlover Says:

Let me guess, instead of aly raisman getting all of the media coverage even though she won the gold for the team, gabby will be concluded as the AA favorite AND the one who gets all of the attention because she was the one who did all four events. Jordyn will be overshadowed even though she composed herself, Kyla will be left out, and mckayla will be forgotten about.

    • mim Says:

apparently mckayla wants to become an actress which is funny, she loves attention bless her. i dont think she’ll be forgotten about. she’s got the best personality and she’s “the pretty one”, plus she’ll most likely win vault gold.

now fingers crossed for aly, i want her to go all out and medal in the AA!

      • Johnsonlover Says:

I was actually referring to the press of tomorrow and tonight before event finals..but after the Olympics who knows? Raisman and Maroney will be the golden girls…..IF gabby isn’t the AA champion lol

    • Exgymgurl Says:

Honestly jordyn will probably get the most positive press on this. Shes become the michelle kwan of gymnastics, and honestly came through and did her job. Most adults could not do that let alone teen agers. I didnt like jordyn or Aly before and I do now….. Theyre more marketable than the two courtneys…. And if they really are best friends I fully expect an awesome floor final. I want aly to get bronze aa and gabby to finish off podium. They all have gold 🙂

      • Gymbee Says:

I think Jordyn will benefit from this press-wise too. She got what, 70.000 more twitter followers since quals, and there are more newspaper articles about her than Gabby, from what I saw.

        Suck on that, Morgenstein.

      • gymnastwannabe Says:

I think Aly is getting the raw deal. I felt “terrible” for Jordyn and think she deserves to be in the aa…but w/ everyone focusing on Jordyn not making it…ummm…Aly scored 2nd in prelims! Hoping her solid performances will bring her victory in the AA….we can hope! Although, after today, Komova will be wanting revenge all the more and Gabby hit 4 for 4 today.

      • Johnsonlover Says:

Yes I think so too, in my comment I was actually referring to the media of tomorrow and tonight…as for the end? Raisman and Maroney will be the golden girls, Wieber will be the survivor and the “comeback” girl, and gabby will be, well, I don’t know, the girl who did so well in the team final but eventually screwed up event finals.

  100. sainabou nyang Says:

So who thinks marta will finally retire?

    Who would be her replacement?

    • terrigymfan Says:

I doubt very much she will retire. She says she is looking to split her duties as National Team Coordinator with someone else responsible for the younger girls.

    • gymnastwannabe Says:

If she does retire, I think “she’ll put” someone in her place to do the grunt work while she & Bela still hold onto the steering wheel.

      • sainabou nyang Says:

I can see that. I think she’ll put nastiaas her assistant

      • terrigymfan Says:

The only reason I think it won’t be Nastia is because I think Nastia is going to be going the glamour route too much the next couple of years to want the job. The rumor has been it will be Kim Zmeskal Burdette. Kim has denied it but I’m still betting it will be her.

      • Luckystar Says:

I remember her mentioning Valeri as her proffered replacement at one point actually. I’ll try to find the article…

        Here it is:

Karolyi: You want to squeeze some information from me, I see. I think it should be a great person with international reputation and understanding, someone who also has the trust of the other coaches. In my opinion, Valeri [Liukin, coach of his daughter Nastia in 2008 and Rebecca Bross on this year’s team] would be the best choice, but it isn’t up to me. He understands what it takes to prepare a gymnast and prepare a team.

I think what Marta mean by that last sentence is that Valeri would run things the same way she would and/or be her puppet lol

quote on cbsnews.com “World champion Jordyn Wieber went first and did perhaps the best one she’s ever done, getting great height in the air with her legs locked together. When her feet slammed into the mat on landing, she threw up her arms and smiled broadly. Anyone who wondered how she would recover from the shock of failing to qualify for the all-around competition got their answer.”

    • Exgymgurl Says:

If youve persevered through disappointment as an underdog people like you more….. And MAN did she persevere!!!!! Get me some Wieber fever!!!!

      • mim Says:

she’s got more guts and mental fortitude than most adults would have. i am such a wimp compared to these teens!

i love that she pulled through for the team. her parents must be so proud to have raised a kid with such character. i’m nerding out and proclaiming that she’s my new gym hero! wieber fever here too!

      • terrigymfan Says:

You know she’s a Justin Bieber fan, don’t you? Can you imagine if those two hooked up and got married. She would be Jordyn Wieber Bieber. LOL

  102. tulip Says:

And I ran into a Starbucks while watching in the waiting room of my doctors office and racing through my appt. Caught the floor and nearly passed out with the Russian floor disaster.
Started tearing up when Aly finished with tears in her eyes. Beautiful!
Gabby did a great.job but needs a lesson in the concept of team. Rooting for Aly in AA!
Contests to the American team! And WTG Canada…
Anyone else think the judges wanted Russia to win?

    • terrigymfan Says:

Tulip I hope they didn’t take your blood pressure in the middle of all that. If they had taken mind I think the device would have exploded!

      • tulip Says:

Hee hee! You are so right Terri! Let’s put it this way. I kept the phone in my purse but volume on. She asked me, is that your phone? I said, oops, thought I turned it off (not really) It was just a follow up so I only had to sit there while they poked at me and took blood. I was so concentrated on listening to the phone in my purse that I didn’t even feel the stick!

  103. gymnastwannabe Says:

I’d love to hear your predictions for AA. If the athletes hit, who do you think will take home the medals?

    • Johnsonlover Says:

Honesty, the way that they’re scoring Gabby, I wouldn’t be the slightest surprised if she’s the AA champion. It’s like they’re setting her up for this. But that’s not reality, I just KNOW it will be Komova as the AA champion, she will come to redeem herself, and those judges will be scoring her with gifts. Aly will be silver, if she’s a rock, and mustafina will be the bronze, gabby will be left without a medal because of stupid mistakes on beam and floor.

  104. tulip Says:

This picture says it all. Four girls united together as a team, happy and celebrating. One of by herself saluting and waving to the crowd. Guess who?
    http://sports.yahoo.com/photos/olympics-u-s-women-s-gymnastics-team-goes-for-gold-slideshow/

    • Gymbee Says:

Grr, if anyone starts complaining about them being “mean” to Gabby…. it is she who should follow the rest, the others can’t always keep Gabby on leash making sure she’s always with them.

  105. Luckystar Says:

I have to admit I wasn’t the biggest Jordyn fan before this. I didnt dislike her and I respected her as a gymnast, but I wasn’t like “OMGz best gymnast EVA”. She really proved herself this competition though. To come back after such a massive upset, and give the performance of her life is AMAZING. I’m so happy for her. She earned that gold, and showed everyone why she’s World Champion.

  106. CKY9 Says:

I can’t stop replaying it… McKayla’s vault was GINORMOUS! I’m actually looking forward to hearing Tim say that later. Haha!

    • Gymbee Says:

I’ve been replaying it ever since! SO good! Iove how you can see she was preparing for a stick in the air. Loved her little celebration after, and Akopyans too 🙂

    • mim Says:

i wonder if we will ever see a triple from her… she’s got the height for sure! she just soared through that stadium! i need to see a maroney vault named!

      • tulip Says:

I hope you’re right. She’s so young- she can do it. And after this, if Marta isn’t a fan, she’s nuts. Wait- never mind. We already know she’s nuts.

  107. Gymbee Says:

Hahaha Dominique Moceanu already tweeting “passing the torch!”. I was expecting her sitting at home hoping they’d all would fall, so she could still be the Olympic Gold Medallist haha.

    • tulip Says:

Does this girl ever think it’s not about her?

      • terrigymfan Says:

Yes, “passing the torch” has that implication that what we did was equal. Does anybody remember seeing someone on the US team falling flat on her ass twice in a row today? Didn’t think so.

I wonder too what the other Dom is saying about this. I’m sure it is all, “this is just like what I did at such and such meet, and what I did at such and such other meet.”

      • terrigymfan Says:

Actually, the U.S. team’s performance today reminds me of that time in grammar school when I lined for the finals of the sack race against our traditional rivals from across town. The whole school’s eyes were on me and I had to come through in the clutch. . . blah, blah, blah, me me me. But enough about my historic, one-for-the-ages performance, it’s time to pass the torch to the 2012 US Olympic team!

      • Gymbee Says:

Yep, and she’s putting the focus on HER. How about a simple “congratulations”? Hahaha Terri, you’re funny 🙂

    • Dee Says:

I think it’s official that Dom had sucked every last speck of gold out of that medal….

  108. Exgymgurl Says:

That photo tells me even the media is sick of Gabby. Why isnt she with them. Kyla looks so freaking happy!!!! So does Jordyn….. Gabby was probably told by Cheryl slade if she stood like that the headline would be gabby douglas leads her team to victory…. So not the headline anywhere….. Jordyns golden moment USA loves us some team playas…. And ill admit Ive criticized robot jordyn and knockkneed aly but they did it with lower difficulty on the last routine…. More drama than kerri struggs broken ankle…. And jordyn is the new kerri strugg…. For the next ten yers ” how did you overcome your disappointment and pull it together for team final?” well guess what its cause shes Jordyn Fing Wieber and shes Fing awesome

  109. tulip Says:

GTT- Hope you’re having a few cold ones for us! Thanks for the great forum here…

  110. mim Says:

    agreed! thank you GTT!

  111. Han Says:

Oh and I saw no pink today!!!

  112. nero Says:

First off CONGRATS USA the best TEAM won. Second, the scoring was bullshit. It may not be good decorum to complain when you win but it really seemed like the judges were trying with all their might to give it to Russia.

Komova’s amanar scores more than Jordyn’s? Was her step OOB even taken off because it didn’t say penalty

Mustafina beam scores less than .2 from Jo in prelims with a routine that had missed connections and huge wobbles?

I thought Komova’s beam score was appalling. The same as Kyla, .2 less than Gabby and MORE than Aly?? Joke

Maroney’s vault score, she fucking sticks the best vault the world has ever seen and they still take .3 off

Ok I had to rant. I’m so so so proud of all the girls. Mckayla for showing the doubters why she was taken, Gabby for proving to everybody that she could do it, Aly for continuing to be the most solid gymnast, Kyla for doing her absolute best when people thought she would melt down

And Jordyn. Who after extreme disappointment rocked the house. Her cheering for Gabby after beam showed what a great person and athlete she is!!!

    • terrigymfan Says:

I also say we need to give up a little for Gabby. She came through in the clutch today, as did all the girls but we were really doubting Gabby. I am sure she will be obnoxious as hell about it but I say give credit where credit is due.

      • gymnastwannabe Says:

Yep, I hoped she’d make me eat my words and she came through…I’m proud of her for hitting…not proud of her arrogance and lack of support for the team – this where Jordyn shined!

      • gymglitterxx Says:

I saw Gabby literally avoid the team several times while watching the live feed, and the other girls often had to call her name several times or grab her by the arm just to get her to stand in the group and act like a team mate! I do agree she did well and handled the pressure, but her ego MUST GO!

      • sanitynmotion Says:

        Famewhore alert LOL awesome.

Hey did Geddert ever release another blog since Jo didn’t make the AA?

I don’t really care if Gabby was all “in the team” or not. She did what she needed to do, now they can all do their own thing. No team is perfect (just like no family is perfect we all have our “oddballs” hahahah)…

STILL waiting to watch tonight. Damn West Coast time…

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Oops my post meant to go below tulip’s below…oh well.

    • Gymbee Says:

Komova scored 15.833, and Jordyn 15.933. Jordyn stuck hers and Komova OOB, ridiculous.

    • nero Says:

Yeah! And Paseka’s amanar a 15.3!? Are you kidding?? Less than a point than Maroney, ridiculous

    • Anonymous Says:

I agree some of the Russian scores were GIFTS!!! The US girls really EARNED all of their scores with solid performances. Gabby did come through and handle the pressure so we have to give it to her for that.

    • Casc Says:

So USA women / girls having a not-so-good-day qualified to the finals with the best score. And two days later, they have a much-better-day which compiled with bad day for Russia translated into 5 points gap. Seriously, I think that it was historical competition for many reasons, and one of them is definitely that US scored over 183 points in 12 routines, which gives an average 15.25 per routine – it really shows how good this team is. And hopefully they will be smarter than 2008 team, and continiue they careers (especially that all of them are healthy; for Kayla Ross it may be just the beginning of a great career – and i think that gold medal is a nice way to start, right?).

      • Aerial Says:

Exactly. All the media reports saying the US needed a great floor rotation and that Russia was chasing them down are bogus. It was absolutely historic. As are Musty’s soft legs and her total lack of stick and attack on beam. That’s another story though!

  113. K Says:

I’m so proud of all the girls! Go Team USA! They deserved it!

  114. terrigymfan Says:

I am soooooo psyched to watch this tonight on TV!!! I didn’t see any of it but kept up with the “play-by-play” everybody provided on this blog. Yes I know the result but actually that will make it all the more pleasurable (of course I would not say that if we lost!). The anxiety might be too much if I didn’t know we won.

  115. nero Says:

Holy shit, Shawn’s twitter is hilarious. She keeps saying ‘the Russians’ and that the judges like dance in the floor routines. And then she said Izbasa of Russia fell on her last pass WTF

She really is only there for the media attention and the cameras

    • Gymbee Says:

Yeah, noticed her “Russia just stepped completely off vault matting!” and ‘Russia’ has a name Shawn!

      • JAS4 Says:

I can’t wait to see it on tv tonight!

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Same I can’t wait!! So happy my dark side was wrong and gabby came through. Thanks guys for posting updates. Will likely go into depression after Olympics are over. But there’s world’s next year, right?

P.s. I think jordyn weiber is my new shawn Johnson 🙂

      • terrigymfan Says:

At least she didn’t call them the “Soviets.” LOL

      • Aerial Says:

I noticed her tweet saying “WE. WON.”
All things considered she mighta wanted to rephrase that one!

      • gymglitterxx Says:

Wow Shawn didn’t even bother knowing the girl’s name? LOL Shawn and Gabby are both stupid as shit

    • Dee Says:

Shawn shared a friggin podium with Sandra. That’s embarrassing.

  116. Gymbee Says:

Look at that link that someone tweeted of Shawn. One of the comments on the side has someone explaining who Shawn is. GREAT JOB Evan Morgenstein hahahaha.

  117. sainabou nyang Says:

This is why I love this blog.

GTT whatver will we do after the Olympics are over and things start to die down.

Btw I have some predictions for after the game.
    1. John geddert will go with other coaches and get thoroughly wasted.
    2. Nastia will make another comeback.

3.Gabby will continue with gymnastics but she won’t be as popular because woga is back and katelyn ohashi will be martas new muse.

    • tulip Says:

I’m hoping Nastia got herself a rude awakening here. I’ve not read one thing about her. Yet Shawn and Alicia are everywhere, Jordyn is getting the headlines and she gets more insignificant after each day of competition. Doesn’t mean you’re wrong. I bet you’re very right. I just hope she eventually learns that no one wants to see her again.

    • Casc Says:

Don’t forget about Chellsie coming back for 2013 Worlds 🙂

      • sainabou nyang Says:

        Lol i can’t forget chellsie.

I also predict the amanar will be yesterdays news and everyone will be rushing to do a 7.0 vault.

  118. tulip Says:

The question regarding AA. After watching today, again, it was pretty clear that the judges wanted the gold for the Russians. They just couldn’t deliver in spite of the gifts they were given.

At this point, I think it’s anyones title, but if someone other than Komova or Musty wins, it won’t be due to help from the judges.

Remember, FIG made 2 per country rule to increase diversity and avoid sweeps. They would prefer diversity in medals. Just my two cents. Go Aly in AA and floor, Tweddle to rock Bars, MM owns vault and let’s see a surprise on beam!

    • JAS4 Says:

Since the USA won the team gold I wouldn’t be surprised if the judges give gifts to Komova and Mustafina in the AA or to some of the other athletes in EF I hope Jordyn throws the double layout on floor she has been training in EF!

  119. Biyatch Says:

    Aly article: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/olympics/2012/writers/sarah_kwak/07/31/aly-raisman-womens-gymnastics/index.html

    🙂

  120. Kel Says:

Jordyn is an inspiration and role model to anyone who ever had to battle back after extreme disappointment. Go Jo!!! So happy for her and team USA. I have doubts that she will stick around for long after these Olympics, but I hope she does. I read somewhere that she will either go to UCLA next fall or delay one year. Here’s hoping she delays 4 years!

    • Casc Says:

Would it be possible for her to train with UCLA gymnastics team (I think she could help other girls a lot), even though she can’t compete in NCAA meets? Because then she could try to stay in shape, so she would be able to start in Visas and possibly Worlds.

      • Jen Smith Says:

When I was in college, that was called a “red shirt freshman” they worked out at all practices, but during games sat on the sidelines and cheered the team on. It keeps them in shape but doesn’t jack with their 4 year max playing quota. Does anyone know if that is still the way it’s done? Although Bridget Sloan just completely deferred her freshman year and stayed home and trained with Marvin Sharp. What about the tour? I’m sure Jordyn will be on the tour and they significantly water routines down on tour due to lack of actual training time.

  121. Kel Says:

I have to agree that Gabby had a great day. I think we should all prepare ourselves for the great possibility that if she performs like she did today, she may very well win the AA. I hate to even type the words, but when she is on she could actually win. Still hoping she tanks and Aly dominates!!!

  122. JAS4 Says:

    Jordyn injury?

    • nero Says:

Wow, she is even more impressive. I wouldn’t mind the floor final being a complete splat fest and she wins. But just how she performed today, and how she actually cheered on her teammates in a really genuine way already solidified her as my favorite gymnast

I’m guessing Jordyn will be marketable after today? Oh I forgot douche agent Evan called her a failure

Mckayla did deserve a 10, what more could you ask for from a routine? That vault deserved a 10 way more than some perfect scores that were handed out years ago

And Kyla looking so happy after her beam, and Aly crying before her routine ended. Gah, I love them.

      • Catherine Says:

The slightly bent knees are the only deduction I saw, possibly her leg sep before she blocks, but I didn’t have the angle to see if she did that. They’re so determined not to give a 10, I’d say it deserved a 9.8 at least.

      • Aerial Says:

It’s hard to imagine that vault being done so well and so high and so stuck with even straighter legs… that was one beautiful piece of gymnastics… something to hold on to forever for our little poser. Didn’t get to do floor but rocked her one event with everything she has.

      • mim Says:

Catherine you must have eyes like a hawk! it all happened to quickly for me to notice anything that could have been improved haha.

      • Dee Says:

Catherine, those are the same deductions we saw while watching. I still think they should have just given the 16.5. A vault that good, who cares about your legs? Hahahah

      • Catherine Says:

Haha ah BBC did a 360-spin of it and paused her, they also replayed it about 5 times. They were really objective- showed Jordyn’s floor instead of Beth’s bars! THEN showed Beth’s bars later. I would absolutely not object to McKayla getting a 10, she set the standard for that vault far more than Amanar or Rosu. Definitely a 9.8 execution, but a 10 would be deserved and would say ‘LOOK AT THIS. Now stop chucking these everyone else!’

  123. JAS4 Says:

With the floor line up and the gifts Romania and Russia have been given it could be a Russian/Romanian podium but I really want Jordyn and Aly to medal but it makes it harder with their positions in the line ups but if Jordyn’s ankle is injured I hope it holds up! And I’d love to see her throw the double layout she has been training!

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Floor final totally set up so izbasa will repeat her gold performance. I predict a Romanian to win it… aly likely bronze or silver. Hope I’m wrong again is love to see her win individual gold.

      • tulip Says:

You are absolutely correct. They won’t (or can’t) give it to Jordyn or Aly. And I feel pretty sure they are up for Ponor on beam. Regardless.

      • mim Says:

i could not even comment on sandra’s floor because her floor music makes me so bored i don’t watch it. what an anti-climactic way to finish the floor finals on that routine. id love aly, jordyn and lauren to get medals on floor but it ain’t happening. shame victoria moors didn’t make it either.

      • Catherine Says:

I want Afanasyeva to win, her floor is amazing. Aly deserves to medal. Afan would have gotten 15.333 without that fall yesterday, that’s higher than Aly, but then Aly didn’t do her front layout. Tough one! Ideal podium Afan-Aly-Vanessa. Izbasa..others are cleaner than her and she already is a floor champion, so I would root for others above her. Same with Ponor..love her floor, form a bit dodge and again, floor champion. Now Iordache, I REALLY wanted her to take floor and beam. Hopefully she can bring it in AA. If she brings all of her difficulty her bars won’t matter as much. I’d like Jordyn to do well in floor but I don’t see that happening, especially with 6.0 difficulty- she has taken out a leap they weren’t crediting anyway.

      • JAS4 Says:

Any idea how much it would add to Jordyn’s SV if she were to do the double layout she’s been training?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I am not a fan of Afan but I loved that floor. I can’t remember the last floor team from anyone that I loved enough to call it a favorite.

      • Catherine Says:

Love it so much, I prefer it to Pavlova’s who seems to be fan favourite floor since eh the millenium. She better bring it in EF, put money on her..judges seem to want artistry to win the day, and Aly has been having issues with that front layout lately..

      • mim Says:

actually yes i loved afan’s floor too (how could i forget?!) ! i’d be happy if she got gold.

  124. JAS4 Says:

    Team USA interviews

  125. tulip Says:

    Famewhore alert!
For those of you who are watching the women’s AA NBC coverage, get ready to puke. After Romanian beam, they went into a piece about Jordyn having her dreams crushed.
It concluded with Nastia was doing some voiceover poem about being remembered forever with a pic of Jo and Nastia together. It was sappy and she was “reciting” it in a baby girl voice. Then they went to commercial. Came back and US warming up on bars. Al Cowling then said “Those words were spoken by Nastia Liukin. She said those words gave her chills when she spoke them and meant even more to her after Jordan’s missing out on AA… It made her appreciate HER gold medal even more knowing how fragile it can all be”

So, thank you Nastia for butting in and reminding us that 1) your verbal delivery skills are seriously lacking and 2) were you trying to tell us that you won this before?

Sorry for the long post- had to share the ick. Can’t suffer alone here…

  126. tulip Says:

Last post- yes, I’m floating on a gymnastics cloud…
Chow deserves major kudos for how quickly he turned Gabby from a diamond in the rough into a champion. He seems like such a decent guy- like Geddert.
In the post-victory press, Gabby did strike me as more team focused- my guess is Marta and Chow gave her a little reminder that it’s time to focus on team. She did a good job of that during the competition and after. Like Sanity and others said above- props to Gabby. She came through for the team and kept it that way when talking to the press. Good job all! And the pure joy on all of their faces was infectious. They earned it!

    • sainabou nyang Says:

If you are valeri liukin watching TF last night what must you be thinking.

I’m going with there will never be another Olympics without a woga gymnast.

  127. Dee Says:

The whole night was wonderful. So proud.

Now, Russia, bring it. I really want then to win AA for obvious reasons. Unless Aly can.

  128. kittykat Says:

Haven’t had time to watch it yet!!! 😦 very proud of the girls, especially Jordyn, what a fighter! The one routine I have seen so far is Aly’s floor. Interested as to how she got a 15.325 when she got a 15.3 in qualifying with the layout after the double arabian and better execution…..
Would the ACCURATE judges please stand up?

  129. Alex Says:

So a couple of takeaways for me….One, Jordyn will come out of this okay. She is clearly now the media darling. People love a good comeback, and this kid delivered. Even my mom, who is not a gymnastics fan, told me that when she watched prelims, she cried right along with Jordyn. This kid has become super marketable, and she seems just as wholesome as cherry pie. She might even do better now with endorsements than if she won the AA. The cameras were all Jordyn, all the time last night. I was really happy she was getting some recognition!! That being said, I am SO SAD that she isn’t competing AA. I would have loved for Jordyn and Aly to have the spots.

Second, I hope heads roll in the U.S. brevet judge world. The judges at nationals, American Cup, Trials did Jordyn and the U.S. a HUGE disservice when they awarded those beam connections.
This needs to be a lesson to our judges to better understand what’s going to fly in the international competitions. There were multiple opportunities for Jordyn’s connections to be discredited, and they weren’t. It’s really too bad.
I love this team. I could do without Gabby, but you can’t argue with results. I don’t want her to win the AA, but after TF, she definitely could make it happen.
    Third, I adore Ally.
Fourth, Mackayla’s vault getting .3 in deductions is absurd. I’m no brevet judge, but come on. Call a 10 a 10. I’m holding out hope for EF. 🙂
    That is all.
Thanks for this great forum, GTT!

    • sainabou nyang Says:

I agree with you regarding the us judges.
I’ve also felt that the us needs to go more international competitions beside jesolo and worlds. I dont even consider the American cup intl because its so biased.

    • terrigymfan Says:

I know some people are going to jump on me for saying this, but I think Jordyn not making aa finals may be a blessing in disguise. My reasoning is that I just think these judges don’t like her for some reason and always seem to underscore her. I’m afraid if she had made aa finals she would have gotten a bronze medal at best and maybe no medal at all. Then she would have been considered the big “bust” in the aa finals. As it is she is going to be remembered for her courageous response to getting screwed over by what is an assinine rule.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I totally agree. Did you notice how for once in the Team Final the cameras were mostly trained on Jordyn? She’s also getting more headlines than ever before. Her “failure” is making her a star because of her reaction (it’s been all over the place, and who can’t look at that of her crying and not have your heart break a little?) and her charisma out of it. Now that she just brought it for the team…she’s like the new Kerri Strug. I know the comparison isn’t exact but I hope everyone knows what I mean.

Even my husband said “I like Jordyn better now” – I think it was she was so stoic/concentrated before and showed very little emotion, but when the tears came out followed later by her gutsy performance and jumping up and down for her team with fists in the air – who can’t empathize with that?

    • sanitynmotion Says:

I made a comment but it didn’t get posted I don’t think. But basically i was saying the judging throughout this competition has been absurdly against the Americans, especially Jordyn. I don’t think it would have helped any for Jordyn to be “exposed” to international judges (I mean, she had Worlds and Jesolo); the judges were out for blood this time around. They wanted her out of Komova’s way.

It’s so obvious when Mustafina’s horrible beam routine from team finals (full of wobbles, balance checks, and missed connections) scored only one tenth lower than Jordyn’s beam in quals (with one wobble and one missed connection). Both beam routines had similar start values, so the bias is completely obvious.

Also, how did Aly’s beam get a 14.9 in team finals? Her routine was actually a bit improved from quals I thought (maybe except for the dismount, but that’s a one-tenth deduct for a hop, right?). And Aly’s beam has a high SV.

These Olympics kind of remind me of Beijing, where all of a sudden Shawn was getting deductions right and left for things that she’d never been deducted on before.

The judging of this sport makes it completely fixed and not even what you’d call a “sport.” The balance beam judges especially.

      • JAS4 Says:

Komova’s beam score in TF was blatant over scoring she scored over a 15 with wobbles and going completely off the mat on her dismount

      • Jazzy31 Says:

Yes clearly Komova is going to be our AA champ. She could sit on the beam and drink a cup of tea and the judges would give her a 15. She’ll have to really screw up to not walk away with gold. I wonder how much the Russians had to pay for these scores….

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Beam judges are not in charge of floor judges and they don’t like Komova.

      • Catherine Says:

Russians are not paying for their scores..come on. They may be favouring artistic routines over Jordyn/Aly’s style..but then they gave Ponor a huge score and they love Sui Lu and Iordache too. They sound okay-ish to me.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Komova’s beam score in team finals was pretty bad but I feel like Mustafina especially on bars is being lowballed.

      • Catherine Says:

Bars is getting slaughtered compared even to quals I think, will have to go back to the scoring and check, Beth’s score was much lower and I noticed others too- people are saying it about He Kexin’s, but hers actually wasn’t as good. Compared to vault, where amanars are having SCAM type scoring (except MM who earned hers) and floor has some overscores too.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I thought the Chinese on bars were too low but their scores made more sense when I saw Beths score.

  130. Viola Roadkill Says:

Still desperate for attention…Nastia, you had nothing to do with this team. Go away.

  131. mim Says:

slo mo of mckayla’s vault for anyone who is interested! 🙂

    http://deadspin.com/5930714/relive-mckayla-maroneys-phenomenal-vault-in-super+slow-motion?comment=51448787

you do see her feet only EVER so slightly come apart but it was so minimal i can’t believe she got a 9.7. a 9.9 would have been better. you know if it had been a russian vault it may have got a 10!

  132. Biyatch Says:

My favorite twitter comment that I saw about the team was: “Team USA clearly won because they had both Jesus and Moses on their side.”

  133. Han Says:

Jordyn wieber loves Justin bieber and he tweeted her telling her congratulations!

    • alex Says:

      oh, that’s so cool. Weiber-Bieber fever. 🙂

    • Han Says:

I have watched mckaylas vault so many times, it’s noisy when she runs and gets onto vault and most other people it’s noise straight away landing, she is so high it’s noise, silence for a few seconds and then noise again!! It’s like someone slowed it down, pure amazingness if that’s even a word!!

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Its about time. Everyone has been begging him for months. I hate that cocky ass Canadian. He needs to go back to Canada and stay

  134. terrigymfan Says:

Question for folks on this blog: Why is it that no one on the US team other than Mckayla tried to qualify for vault event finals? I know it requires performing another, different vault like Mckayla does, but it seems like it would have been a relatively easy (I know nothing is actually easy in gymnastics!) way to pick up a silver or bronze medal given how weak the rest of the world is on vault.

    • Han Says:

I was wondering the same thing and I do not know anything really about gymnastics but all I could think is that they were spending more time focusing on their amanar and other events. Maybe unless they were superb they didn’t think it was worth spending the time learning a whole new vault from a different family when they could be spending the time perfecting the amanar and other skills. And I think it worked their amanars are freaking amazing!! But I don’t know, I could be talking BS haha!

    • sanitynmotion Says:

I know I’d be trying a second vault if I were a gymnast, given the odds. I guess it takes up so much training time to learn/perform a second vault that you almost need to be a “specialist” in that area. I don’t think ASac was a vault specialist (performing a second vault) until she dropped bars altogether, giving her time to train that rudi. I was looking this up a few weeks ago thinking how did Annia Hatch and Mohini make the team in ’04 as vault specialists over ASac? Turns out she was only performing DTY vaults, and not a second one. When she dropped bars she was able to upgrade.

I could be wrong, but I’m guessing it’s just a timing thing. I think personally that ALL gymnasts should be made to learn/perform two types of vaults so the field could be more “even” kind of like how the other apparatuses are.

    • Aerial Says:

Terri, totally agree. There is a huge difference between McKayla’s average and the second place qualifier. With the Americans scoring well on Amanars, I’m surprised they didn’t put effort into preparing a decent second vault. It really seems they would have been very competitive and another chance for a medal!

    • terrigymfan Says:

It does seem that the aa’ers don’t try to do second vaults. I guess there is only so much training time to learn all the skills and a second vault is just too much.

      • Catherine Says:

None of them are really vault specialists. They just do vault because they have to! Aly, Jordyn and Gabby’s strengths are AA so they all focus on that, and Kyla’s strength is bars and beam. If they still had to do two vaults, then it would be different but I suppose their coaches view it as a waste of training time. I like vault the way it is though, so diverse! An American, 2 Germans, Romanian, 2 Canadians, Dom republic and I’m missing someone..no Steingruber or Ti Phan though.

  135. gymglitterxx Says:

Wow watching men’s all around, Orozco just can’t do pom, or either he’s exhausted. He got stuck pressing up to his handstand an almost didn’t make his dismount!

  136. sanitynmotion Says:

So sorry to rant more, but given what I have been observing from the judges, I’m saying the women’s AA is Komova’s (it’s in the bag for her) unless she epic fails. I think an American will get silver (not sure which one, the judges all of a sudden seemed to be downgrading Aly’s scores last night now that she’s on their radar), and Musty will get bronze (she tends to perform well after being angry, and she seems angry from losing out on team gold).

    • Kazic Says:

Mustifina should be angry. Gold was handed to them on a platter and they still couldn’t get it :p

    • gigi Says:

Where do you think Gabby will end up? Do you think she’ll finally stumble?

      • sanitynmotion Says:

She’s been pretty confident leading up to now…I think there’s a good chance she’ll actually hit. She seems to want this. If Komova hits though the best Gabby can hope for is a silver, which still isn’t bad at all.

I don’t see Gabby continuing after these Olympic games in gymnastics…can’t see her wanting to live in Iowa for another four years. So I’m betting this might be the last time we see Gabby compete (@ the Olympics).

I can see the rest potentially keeping on with the sport though.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Your comments about the AA being set for Komova I don’t agree with. The floor judges showed her no love in prelims and I don’t see that changing.

The judges want Gabby to win. That floor score proves that.

The beam judges seem to over score Komova but that is it. I think her Amanar looks the same as the US yet she keeps scoring below them.

I hate to say it but I think this is Gabby’s to win. She stays up and the judges will ignore her issues and reward her 15’s.

They both start on vault. Komova will have a lead after two ( by maybe 3 or 4 tenths) and than the Gabby overscoring train will take over.

It’s a done deal and I am out of denial. Unless she falls twice she is getting an AA medal.

  137. sanitynmotion Says:

Oh and one more thing – kind of sad I didn’t get to see Romania routines (except two beam routines)…would have liked to have seen their floor rotation and Sandra’s vault. Also, I would have liked to have seen China’s beam rotation. I guess I’ll have to hope they get posted on You Tube eventually.

And I didn’t see Afan’s floor – did she fall? I just saw Musty and Grishina.

    • theirway11 Says:

Afan fell on her double pike at the end of her routine. Just couldn’t get it all the way around.

    • Catherine Says:

That sucks! What I love about BBC is how objective they are, they showed more of USA than GB- only routines missed were Gabby’s vault and Aly’s beam.

Here’s what I saw: 3 rom vaults, 2 rom floor, 2 rom bars, 2 rom beam, 2 rus floor (and grishina’s mistake), 2 rus bars, 3 rus vault, 2 rus beam, 1 china floor, 1 china beam, 2 china bars, 2 china vault,, all of usa minus the above two, 1 japan beam, 1 japan floor, 2 canada vault, 1 canada floor, 1 canada beam, 2 gb beam, 2 gb vault, 1 gb bars, 3 gb floor, 1 italy floor.

Now if BBC can fit all that in then NBC can!

Afan’s last pass brought her score down to 14.333. It woulkd have deserved that 15.333. If you haven’t seen it in prelims either, Aunt Joyce has a video of it.

  138. nero Says:

IDK about you guys but I feel these girls are far from done. After ’08 it certainly seemed like all 6 were done, I know 5 tried to comeback but that didn’t work out too well

I think all 5 have a lot more to give. Kyla especially, I can see her getting her amanar down and upgrading floor and becoming a world champ.

I can see all of them going to multiple worlds and trying for the Olympics again

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Kyla isn’t done. I am so proud of her for hitting her routines but she has more to give to this sport. I can’t see her retiring

      • Catherine Says:

McKayla said she wants her own vault named after her (when asked about renaming the amanar the Maroney on the today show). That means TTY to me.

      • terrigymfan Says:

Kyla definitely seems to young, with so much potential left to be developed. to retire yet. I can’t see Mckayla continuing. I’m guessing she’ll go to UCLA film school or something to try to get into movies or TV. I would really like to see Jo try to make another Olympics but as we’ve seen with everyone else it is just so hard to stay motivated for another four years and also avoid injury. Same with Aly. I am having a hard time figuring out what Gabby is going to do. She seems so immature to me to quit gymnastics but on the other hand I can see her mom having her do it so she can milk the celebrity scene and endorsements for what they are worth.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

If Gabby wins the AA she might retire. The fact that she is black means she has a whole avenue that no one else has. Black celebrities stick with black celebrities. White celebrities just like any attention.

Gabby is going to make Dominique Dawes a name no one remembers.

Mckayla should retire because frankly she is a one event gymnast that lucked out having the best damn vault on the planet during a time where it made a difference. A Mckayla stuck vault should in reality out score anything Jordyn does on vault by 5 tenth and Aly and Gabby by 8. That vault by Mckayla was damn near perfect. How gabby scored within 3 tenths of that is crazy.

Jordyn has the redemption story so if she continues that might help her especially if she wins.

I think Aly will retire if she wins an AA medal. She is pretty set in Massachusetts forever. This is a sport town and she is a house hold name.

      • terrigymfan Says:

GTT, maybe you can explain something to me that I don’t understand. I know they start with a D score and then there are deductions from 10.0 to come up with the E score. The deductions are for various errors made during the routine. The problem is, where do they “add” to the score for unbelievable execution that goes beyond the realm? Mckayla’s vault for example is 6.5 D score because it is an Amanar. Same as the rest of the US team. In theory you could have a gymnast who executes the vault flawlessly and gets a 16.5 but it is nowhere near as good as Mckayla’s because she doesn’t soar into the air like Mckayla does. McKayla soaring into the air is not “avoiding a screwup” but rather doing something so incredible that she should have points added to her E score.

I know they are generally taking this into account when awarding E scores but there does not seem to be any systematic approach to it. All I know is McKayla’s vault was about the most incredible thing I have ever seen. Sticking her landing when she was coming down with so much more velocity than the other gymnasts is just incredible. If ever there was a perfect 10 vault that was it.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

In this day and age it wasn’t a perfect ten. These judges for some reason always think a gymnast could have flown higher or could have had better distance. It almost seems like they say no one starts from a ten, We have some imaginary line where they could have done something higher or further .

I agree with you though if anything was getting a ten that vault would be it. I hope Mckayla doesn’t grow any more and consider gymnastics. She should quit while she is ahead and milk that gold medal until her bank account is full.

Last night at Fenway the during the rain delay they had up the gymnastics on the screen and the biggest applause for the first two rotations came from Mckayla vaults. All the 4 years were impressed.

      • Catherine Says:

I see McKayla doing a TTY trying to get to worlds 2013, frankly if she had one and a fixed floor they would have to be thick to leave her behind. There are loads saying she’ll aim to develop into an aa-er, I don’t see that..but improved floor and a TTY, yes. But I see her retiring in 2014 and pursuing a career then at 18, she’s still very young now. I can see Kyla lasting until the next quad, the amanar being devalued will help her as her DTY is amazing. Just needs higher floor difficulty to contend with the new bunch of Juniors. I don’t see Gabby really lasting that long or wanting to try. Aly and Jordyn are a bit of a mystery…probably not 2016, but maybe mid-way there? Hard to know.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I am pretty sure next years worlds in an event finals worlds so she would make that team. If it is a team she might not. They are lowering the value of the Amanar instead of fixing the stupid UB bonus that made Nastia a household name. Until they do that UB will have an unfair advantage.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I know – if THAT vault wasn’t a perfect ten then it basically stands to reason that NOTHING will ever get a perfect 10 ever again.

I always thought Nastia should have quit while she was ahead. But then she splatted. Tee hee!

I think McKayla has potential to be a good all arounder – her beam night 2 of trials was great and I see potential in her bars even. She’s a great dancer and has great form. However I can see her getting involved in the “fame train” after these Olympics (her vault was singled out in the Wall Street Journal on this side of the continent; there was a pic of all the girls at the top and then one of just her under all that) and after you get a fame train going, it’s hard to get off and get back in the gym. Just ask Shawn Johnson.

I don’t think Kyla’s status is such where she can afford to quit to ride a train. She’s like 2008’s Bridget Sloan, only much more potential. I don’t think she’s done either but let’s face it – ALL of these gymnasts will be taking breaks after these Olympics to do the tour and other promotion stuff, such as posing for the Wheaties box.

I can see Aly and Jordyn potentially coming back – especially Jordyn (redemption) and Aly more if she doesn’t get an individual gold here. She’s proven to herself she can get even better with hard work.

I don’t see Gabby continuing because she was already somewhat riding that train before this Olympics started. GTT is right; a black athlete has that special avenue. Plus, Gabby probably can’t stay in Iowa forever (she probably wants to get back to her family); she committed two years to living there but it seems like her family isn’t moving from Virginia anytime soon. Her mom will be riding that train with her I imagine, leaning her head out the window to suck as much from this experience as she can!

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Jordyn has a thing with Kelloggs, she won’t be on a Wheaties box. I think Aly does too

      • Catherine Says:

Yes I think Gabby and co. should have gotten lower in relation to Mckayla’s vault, they had nowhere near the height and amplitude. The deductions they’re taking for McKayla’s are leg sep in pre-flight and slightly bent knees when she’s twisting. Personally, would have ignored them for a vault of that standard. They’ve ignored stuff before and given 10’s….I wish they didn’t have the ‘no 10’s ever ever again’ drilled into them.

      • Catherine Says:

GTT, do you mean the pirouette bonus? That is going to be dumped, at least it was in the draft code. The connection bonus will still apply to every other skill, just not them. They better not have gone back on that. It will greatly help Beth out if she continues at all, yes pirouettes are difficult but Beth’s routine deserves an 8.0 SV when you put it next to one of the code-whoring pirouette ones. Amanar and Cheng are being brought down to 6.3. So the TTY could realistically be out of 6.9 maybe..?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

They said they were taking it out last time and they didn’t. No trust from me:)

    • Gymbee Says:

Didn’t ASac win vault gold at worlds in 2010? So it wasnt entirely bad for her 🙂 (sorry for nitpicking but I’m an ASac fan 🙂

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Alicia is known here more for falling and punching a guy. I honestly don’t think she would still be known here if she had not fallen twice. Boston loves a good old sap story, lol

    • Gymbee Says:

      This is what i think:

I think Jordyn will try for another Worlds before going to UCLA (she didn’t graduate high school already, did she?)

Aly will retire and pursue her interest in fashion.

McKayla will try for another worlds and go home and train the TTY.

Kyla will continue for sure, she’s so young, and it must be weird to just try to be a “normal” teenager and finish high school. Also I don’t see her lucking out on the media front yet, she’s a bit too shy and young still.

Gabby will retire, as someone said her mom will milk any endorsement she can out of her.
(She’ll get braces so they don’t have to edit her smile too much. Sorry :-p )

Oh and sanity, (was it? Just posting on my iPhone on the tube, so hard to scroll through 300+ posts!) I Love your rants! Never be sorry for ranting 🙂

      • terrigymfan Says:

Finally, Gymbee, somebody said Gabby needs braces! That is the first thing she ought to spend her endorsement money on. Of course if she goes the Shannon route she will also have all sorts of plastic surgery and will be looking like Michael Jackson before it is over with.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

HA, MJ2. She wishes she had that much talent.

      • sainabou nyang Says:

Oh wow im reading this and can’t stop laughing.

i read somewhere that sabrina vega is training for worlds 2013.

GTT and everyone else who do you see being the rising new stars?
I.e katelyn, simone bilees, Kennedy baker, etc…

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Katelyn, Marta will make sure of it and by 2016 Marta will have her winning medals with her mind:)

      • Gymbee Says:

Haha, it’s the first thing I notice! When I moved to the UK from my British friends pointed out how perfect Americans teeth are. In Scandinavia, all kids gets braces, so most have nice teeth too, so I never really paid much attention to teeth before moving here and hearing how perfect Americans teeth are.
So whenever I see an American without a perfect smile with perfect teeth, I notice it :-p

Btw, GTT, I just need to say how happy I am about this blog! Thank you so much for writing it! Thanks also to all you other posters, it’s great fun to come here and read all your comments! 🙂 (And thank you GTT for weeding out the trolls – boards I used to read didn’t do that, and I got tired of having to scroll through endless trolling just because the board host couldn’t see the difference between that and “free speech”.)

      • Catherine Says:

I want Laurie Hernandez and Maddie Desch on that team. They better not burn out. Simone Biles can have a spot too. I suppose it will need Katelyn Ohashi for some bars, she better not have peaked too soon. I don’t like Lexie Priessman, I might have Nica Hults instead. 4 years far too much time though, but as long as the first 3 aren’t washed up I’ll be delighted.

      • terrigymfan Says:

In this day and age of large screen HD TVs, bad teeth jump right out at you!

One thing I worry about with Gabby is that someone is going to rip her off of her money. Dom’s scumbag dad did that to her. I can just see the parasites starting to swarm now around Gabby. Someone in her position needs to have a strong adult looking out for her best interests and not their own. I hope her mom will do that but I am not too confident.

      • mim Says:

catherine i don’t like lexie either, not sure why but i just don’t. i think bailey key has tons of potential but she’s still so young so it’s hard to say. really hope maddie desch stays injury free and that valeri doesn’t have another rebecca bross situation with katelyn.

i hope kyla, jordyn, mckayla and aly keep training for worlds. i wonder if they make the list that marta already has in her head.

  139. sainabou nyang Says:

So sabrina doesn’t stand a chance. I like her i just Hope she upgrades for next year.

    • sainabou nyang Says:

Well one thing we know for sure valeri and the woga mafia will be back in 2013.

I wonder what john geddert will do with grace Williams.

  140. Kel Says:

I agree with others that if Jordyn had qualified for the AA she would have maybe won bronze. The judges just don’t seem to like her. I am sure she would have still loved the opportunity though. I must say, I have never been blown away by her gymnastics, but I really admire how she has carried herself with such class this week. I hope she sticks around for a bit. Can’t quite see her sticking around for another 4 years though…that is such a long time to wait for another Olympic opportunity.

    • Nina Marie Says:

I agree, Kel. Her gymnastics doesn’t especially have that “wow” factor, but she is consistent. I think I root for her because she seems so nice and normal. Someone mentioned it above but I also think she could come out of this as the golden child based on how upset she was after prelims, and then how she completely rocked it in finals. True champion!

  141. Kate Coursey Says:

I’m really hoping Mckayla Maroney sticks around and shoots for that TTY….with her power she could pull it off, and if you’re only going to compete one event you might as well push for something ground-breaking.
