Was Alicia Sacramaone, Hollie Vise’d ?

Alicia’s mother is very much a defender of her daughter. I guess I can understand a mom defending her kid but then I remember Alicia is like 24 years old and she should be able to defend herself.

Alicia’s mom has tweeted a few interesting things lately. She sounds kind of bitter. What do you think? (Here are the tweets)

tweet 1,

Great sermon at church this morning ,it was all about integrity, boy could I have sent that one to some organization ;)‪#theyhavenone

Tweet 2,

Do you ever wonder how some people can sleep at night when they don’t have an ounce of integrity#karma

I don’t know if Alicia’s mom should be whining about the integrity of anyone considering her daughter just accepted a medal for a competition she had no part in but something seems up behind these tweets.

If I had to make a guess I would say Gail is pretty mad her daughter was told to not upgrade vault and concentrate on Beam and her usual vaults in order to make the Olympic team. Two events the US really had no use for. Marta did the same thing to Hollie Vise when she told her to concentrate on bars and beam for a specialists spot that did not exist (she ended up taking two vaulters)

but that is just my opinion.

The problem I have with all of this is that Mrs Sacramone feels the need to tweet idiotic hints at a conspiracy but she doesn’t have the guts just come out and say it. Alicia is done. She is retiring why not come out and tell us the facts? Maybe Alicia doesn’t want to take away any publicity from the actual Olympic team. Or maybe she wants to write a book but something clearly went on. We the people deserve to know:)

  1. The GYM JUICE Says:

I was wondering where Alicia thought she would fit on this team, not having an amanar when so many others do. I really didn’t understand all the outrage and confusion at Alicia not being selected, she doesn’t fit and isn’t particularly needed even as an alternate. Did you see the interview with Dawes saying she thinks Alicia turned down an alternate spot? Why is it so hard for people to wrap their heads around the fact that Alicia just isn’t competitive with our nations’s very top gymnasts anymore?? I do feel bad for her though if she was misled by Martha.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I wouldn’t say being second on vault and beam is not competitive but I think the gist of these complaints by mommy dearest is that Alicia was told to do just these two events for a spot that never existed.

I kind of agree with you to a point. I don’t understand how Alicia could be so stupid that she didn’t know that a vault/beam specialist on this team made no sense.

The problem is that Marta plays games with these gymnasts and it is just wrong.

    • The GYM JUICE Says:

“Second” as far as doing two vaults, but only one vault is required in team finals and she can’t perform one with the scoring potential the other girls have. I also agree with you that her mom shouldn’t be talking about “integrity” when Alicia literally took that gold medal from Anna Li’s neck.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Sorry but Anna Li didn’t earn it either. Only difference was she was there. She never competed

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I agree. She took Bross away from floor which was really her key to the Olympics. Same with no floor for Alicia. I am surprised she didn’t tell Kyla no floor but I am convinced she made her keep her floor score low.

      • JAS4 Says:

Also why Marta got rid of Chellsie because she knew that she had floor and bars that were decent so she wanted her out the way for Nastia and I agree she kept Kyla’s floor low for two reasons to make sure she could screw her for Nastia and also could keep her out of the AA

      • The GYM JUICE Says:

I realize Anna Li had a (minor?) injury at the time, but she could and would have competed if Martha had not insisted on keeping the absent Alicia on the team. With Alicia still on the roster there was not a spot for Anna to bars. So Martha actually chose to risk using Gabby, Jordyn, and Sabrina on bars rather than Anna Li, ALL to preserve Alicia’s team gold. Basically Martha would rather risk the gold medal than let Shannon Miller have the most world medals.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Exactly. Marta still hates Shannon for beating Kim and she is never going to forget it.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

If Marta was behind Bross not doing floor, Kyla not upgrading her floor, and telling Chellsie to only compete beam – which I think she was behind at least two of those things – WHY DO PEOPLE STILL DO WHAT MARTA SAYS. You’d think coaches and their athletes would wisen up by now. Same thing applies to if Marta told ASac to only do her rudi vault and focus on beam.

How many times does Marta have to screw athletes over until athletes wisen up and take into their own hands how they compete/what they compete?

I’m not even an insider yet when it was announced Bross was only doing bars/beam I knew she had no chance. She was done.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

They don’t see through her. They are pretty much idiots.lol

      • MacStabby Says:

What’s all this “took the medal from Anna Li’s neck” stuff? I was under the impression that she got to keep her medal– she posted a picture of her gold medal with her parents’ medals on her blog or twitter or something. Doesn’t seem to me that she gave it to anyone.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

They made her a medal. She did not get a real one

      • Dee Says:

Mcstabby- I don’t think the physical medal was taken from Anna. I believe alternates are given a replica. I think that Anna has the real one since she was there an alicia has the replica, but it is still counted. I may be wrong but I think I read that somewhere?

  2. Lissa Says:

Alicia was top two on two events. She was certainly competitive. Not to mention that her actual performances were more error-free than almost every athlete who competed at trials. Of everyone who hit, she hit the best. Maybe she didn’t fit on the team, but she didn’t turn down on alternate spot. She said prior to trials that she knew the team would be tough to make but that she would be honored to be an alternate. And she should have been.

    • Catherine Says:

Unfortunately, no she shouldn’t. Without floor and bars, others are needed. Price has a more valuable vault and can fill in elsewhere on ANY event, but because her bars aren’t amazing, Anna Li was needed. A really good beam and floor were needed, so Sarah Finnegan. Now if either Sarah or Ebee had Anna Li’s bars, then Alicia would have made alternate as there would have been room for her and it would have made sense. It just doesn’t, the way things stand.

I do feel bad for her. Seeing as she’s older than me, I agree she’s well able to fight her own battles- seems a little odd her mother is stooping to snide jabs on twitter. Let Alicia attack if she wants, but it seems that even she knew this could easily happen- though it was obviously upsetting for that to actually occur

  3. JAS4 Says:

I understand her being mad especially if USAG/Marta did tell her to focus on beam/vault but at the same time Alicia had to know that there wasn’t really a spot on the team for a vault/beam person and know that she isn’t Nastia so a spot wasn’t just going to be handed to her if she had the upgraded vault and a decent floor she would have probably been on the team over McKayla but I think after her Achilles injury Alicia just ran out of time to upgrade even with the rudi vault if she at least had a floor then she would have probably been an alternate but with no floor or upgraded vault it wasn’t going to happen even though I was hoping she’d be at least an alternate

  4. nero Says:

I like Alicia but she made the decision not to have a floor routine at Olympic Trials. Her injury was crappy and the fact that she came back in less than a year and was competitive is a great accomplishment in itself

Price can sub in for anybody. Anna would go in for Gabby and possibly Kyla, Sarah is a floor routine. Alicia was not making the Olympic team and I don’t see where she would fit in as an alternate if any of the 5 went down.

I’ve read things from people saying Marta was ‘getting back’ at Alicia for Beijing or Marta doesn’t ‘trust’ Alicia. And I’m sitting here like- That’s why Alicia made the past two world championship teams and was given a gold medal.

She didn’t fit into the team, there’s nothing wrong with that. If she wasn’t held together by tape and had a floor routine she would be a great alternate, unfortunately that’s not what happened.

  5. Exgymgurl Says:

I think she got Memmel’d more than Vised… I think Marta just told her like she did Chellsie what to compete and it would be fine. However just like Chellsie it wasn’t fine and not enough… And Alicia’s vaults clean would score higher than gabby or jordyn on most days… I think Marta picked the teams months ago fixed it with the judges and didn’t want anyone out scoring her “team”

    • The GYM JUICE Says:

Seriously? I agree Martha is unfair at times but I don’t think she would rather have a team of her favorites if other gymnasts who can score better are available. I don’t know what the story would have been if Bross and Alicia hadn’t been missing floor, but seeing as this was the case, the team that was picked was the right one.

    • Gymnee Says:

What happened to Holly Vise anyway? All I read was that Peggy Liddick didn’t pick her because Hollie didn’t seem interested in being in the team. And Hollie couldn’t say why she didn’t want to be in the team due to her contract. So what was the real story? I never did find out.

  6. sarals24 Says:

Plus, she was second on vault because she was one of the few with two actual vaults. Since her scoring potential isn’t as high as Maroney’s, she isn’t going to be a vault specialist. And I’m sorry, if her best event is beam, well…I don’t blame Martha for not trusting her on beam. Not at all.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Her first vault was a 15.7 and it was closer what she deserved then the joke score Gabby got with no height and distance

      • JAS4 Says:

I might be wrong but I don’t think any from the USA (or probably anywhere else for that matter) will be scoring a 16 on their Amanar at the Olympics except for McKayla

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I agree – at Worlds I think McKayla’s score was the highest score achieved of all apparatuses at 16.1 in team finals. Her extra 4 tenths or so will be what US relies on to get through bars rotation against Russia.

Russia is going to make this interesting. If they have at least 2 amanars then it’s really too bad more pressure wasn’t put on Gabby/Kyla to upgrade their bars and for Kyla to upgrade her damn floor.

    • Lauren H Says:

sarals24, “you don’t blame Martha for not trusting her on beam”…are you kidding?! If Alicia’s beam was an issue for Martha, she wouldn’t have named Alicia to the last two world teams. Alicia hasn’t fallen off beam in competition since Beijing, but apparently one fall is enough for some people to never trust a gymnast again, which is ridiculous.

      • JAS4 Says:

It wouldn’t surprise me if Marta did hold a grudge because Marta doesn’t seem like the most rational of people but I don’t think that’s what kept Alicia off the team even as an alternate I think it’s because she just didn’t fill the right spots if she would have had a floor she could have possibly been an alternate and if she had floor and an upgraded vault that could beat McKayla then she probably would have been on the team but while I do think it’s a very good possibility that Marta could have told her not worry about floor I think Alicia just ran out of time after her injury and I was hoping she’d at least be alternate but I understand why she wasn’t (and if Marta wants to hate on people who fall off beam then why is Gabby one of her favorites although like I said Marta isn’t exactly the most rational of people lol)

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I don’t know. Maybe she named her to those teams hoping she would fall and she would have her excuse to ban her for life

  7. sanitynmotion Says:

This being the third Olympics Alica has been around for, she should have known better, period, than to trust or go by what Marta told her (presuming Marta told her not to bother upgrading her vaults). Anyone who follows this sport somewhat closely would know that USAG lacks integrity – all you have to do is look at the person they have at their helm.
Now let’s look at the situation. The only way ASac could have reasonably made that team was by beating McKayla on her one-trick pony event. She does that, and she’s the “vault” specialist with something else in her back pocket: balance beam. Anyone following this sport should have seen this, especially ASac. If McKayla was making this team, then there’s no room for Alicia. Aly, Jordyn, and Gabby were already locks. Kyla’s spot would have likely gone to Nastia if she hit. McKayla’s spot was basically the only one that was up for grabs (from Alicia’s point of view). Therefore, the only realistic way to get on this team was to beat McKayla in vault. That could only realistically happen if ASac upgraded because her rudi was never going to outscore McKayla’s amanar. So if ASac really thought that she had a chance on this team doing her normal stuff, she was either not looking at the obvious facts or Marta was giving her some lip service, and if Marta was giving her lip service she should have known better and assessed the facts. If it were me I would have gone for broke, upgraded my first vault by adding a twist, and even competed a watered-down floor routine at Trials if I had to – with the intention of making it “complete” by the Olympics. This ASac should have/could have done and she didn’t. So that’s why she didn’t make the team.
Also, we all know Marta had a plan. If ASac upgraded, she’d be throwing a wrench in that plan (much like Memmel did in ’08 when she rocked it at Trials, and Marta “had” to place her on the team), but by not upgrading, she made Marta’s decision look easy and it was. It was easily defensible that with no upgrades and just balance beam (an event US is already strong on), ASac really did not have a place on this team.
I kind of disagree though that ASac shoudn’t have been named an alternate – Anna Li’s spot (to me) is kind of a waste. Marta will never use her at the Olympics; she wouldn’t even use her at Worlds. That spot was obviously reserved for that WOGA gymnast who shall not be named.
I kind of think too that after ASac tore her Achilles Marta scratched her off all lists permanently. She can’t chance on another injury at the Olympics. I really don’t buy that Marta left her off of the London team because of what happened in Beijing – Alicia had more than proven consistency since, and had made a point of going to camps and following all of Marta’s “rules” (something Memmel didn’t do and was therefore punished for). I think Marta intentionally reserved that undeserved gold medal for ASac knowing she was going to be doing this to her. A “tit for tat” kind of thing.
Finally, I hope ASac or her mom (or both) do speak out about this eventually; I know it would just appear like bitterness if done now (and would look petty by taking away attention from the girls that did make it) but I have a feeling that ASac knew about the WOGA negotiation with the bars girl that will not be named and probably felt sick about the whole thing, given how hard she had to work to make her own comeback legit. It doesn’t do anything to drop subtle hints via Twitter; OUT WITH IT. Or at least out with it – eventually. I hope GTT emails ASac and maybe gets some inside scoop.🙂

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I really thought about e-mailing her but she would read this site once and never write me back.lol It is not very Alicia friendly:)

I have Shawn’s e-mail too:) I used to have Nastia’s when it was something like liliukin but apparently I didn’t save it:)

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Maybe you should create a fake email (not gymtruthteller) and write her.🙂 Haha.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

It would be kind of hard to ask her questions for the blog that way.lol

      • Exgymgurl Says:

You’re the only one that’s reported on her moms tweets and we were all the first to stick up for Chellsie. I honestly believe Marta picked this team months ago and that was that. If Chellsie had advanced to visas / trials she would have gotten Anna Lis spot only if Marta had been forced to on scores. Bottom line is that Alicia could have brought floor and would have still not been named maybe only as an alternate. Something happened in that room because Steve penny made the announcement and there was a two minute delay before they came out. The alternates were not announced and only trailed out later. Chellsie let her dad talk in some of the interviews. I hope this works well for Marta if any of my kids were elite gymnasts I’d be passport shopping them because there is no way I’d let them be one of Marta’s princesses ( my children are hugely tall so there is no danger of them being elite gymnasts )

  8. Exgymgurl Says:

Remember Marta’s I hate you comment to her last yr at worlds with the Achilles?….

    • sanitynmotion Says:

      No what was that???

      • gymtruthteller Says:

According to GGMB after Alicia got hurt Marta yelled I hate you at her.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Are you serious? I’m surprised that didn’t get out more. You’d think if that happened ASac would have thrown in the towel. Or at least upgraded vault to spite her.

      • nero Says:

Meh, I never believed that rumor. That happened during a private training session. Spanny Tampson summed up my thoughts on that happening

“Rumor ran rampant in the days following Alicia’s injury, where nameless sources claimed Martha, upon seeing Alicia crumple on the floor, told her she hated her, and to stop acting like a baby. They claim that Martha said, verbatim, “I hate you.”

A couple of things here. I can’t understand what Martha says, ever. I don’t understand how she has been in the country for 30 years and still manages to speak with the thickest accent imaginable. Despite that, we’re to believe that our unnamed source was able to not only hear Martha, but able to decipher what she said during the intense moments following Alicia’s injury. I don’t buy it.”

      • ISI Says:

@nero – I’m with you. I think it’s hilarious that Abomb has no problem being all coy with his little insider tidbits, but when a non-insider on the board does the same thing, Abomb demands to know the person’s source and threatens to ban them from the board unless they reveal said source to him via PM.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

That is abomb. I think his inside person dried up because over the last year he has threatened a lot of people for info

  9. Lyra Gill (@lygill) Says:

I really think something went on – Alicia pretty much retired without saying anything and that’s just not like her. The media coverage has been pretty suspect too – she got like no news attention whatsoever, and I just find that weird. I think even Becca got more articles written about her.

Oh and guys, come on, all respect to Anna Li but Martha will NEVER use her even if Gabby gets injured. Martha will use Aly if she has to, and not Anna.

I think Alicia’s done with the drama but looks like Momma Sac isn’t!

    • Lyra Gill (@lygill) Says:

To those asking about the whole Nastia-Alicia twitter thing, the last time they tweeted things back and forth (the whole I miss you come see me blabla) was during podium training at Worlds 2011.

I have nothing to do anyway so I checked LOL

    • Lyra Gill (@lygill) Says:

and looks like Nastia, Alicia, Jordyn and Aly started the whole #hotpink thing!

      • gymtruthteller Says:

That was when Nastia tried to wiggle her way into their little group. She wanted to be the team leader, gag me.

  10. (@lygill) Says:

    And the whole Shawn-Alicia thing…

Shawn to Alicia – Dont know if youve read what others hve but I promise you the media has I wrong. I look up 2 u & respect everything u have done

Alicia to Shawn – I’m too old to care about silly drama like this…the media tends to take things out of context all the time, its no big deal

    • Chris Says:

what happened with shawn and alicia?!?1

    • Gymbee Says:

I remember that happening. I seem to remember it wasn’t really a big deal though, some quote by Shawn that was blown out of proportion. Anyone remembers the whole thing?

  11. Dee Says:

I think after a lifetime of this stuff, momma sac has every right to be pissed. Her daughter put everything into this and could have at least been a reserve.

I think it all is strange how everything is quiet. Maybe more book deals are in our futures.

    • nero Says:

But Sarah Finnegan put everything into this also, so did Kennedy Baker and Brenna Dowell should they have been reserves also?

Again, I’m not sure why people are complaining especially Alicia’s mom. Her daughter was given a medal and now is constantly introduced as the most decorated American gymnast in World Championships history. If it wasn’t for her injury I definitely think she would have helped the team, but that’s not the way the cards fell. I actually think if Bridget would have competed well she would have made alternate over Sarah and Alicia.

Who would Alicia go in for if one of the 5 went down? I don’t see it. It wouldn’t be a vaulter because using Price and her huge amanar makes better sense. Obviously not for bars or floor, she could contribute on beam but that’s it. If USAG was looking for a reserve beamer Nastia would be calling herself an alternate right now.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

All these girls worked hard accept Nastia. No one deserves a spot over someone else.

      • nero Says:

I agree, which is why I hate when people say Alicia ‘deserved’ to be alternate. People cite her comeback and how hard she worked and I agree it was admirable especially after her injury. But it’s not like Sarah was sitting in her gym stuffing herself with cake and ice cream. She worked just as hard.

Sarah has a floor routine, Alicia doesn’t. It’s pretty cut and dry for me.

      • Dee Says:

I didnt mean that the others did not work just as hard, I just meant that Alicia’s mom had to sit and watch this happen in 2004, then things went not as planned in 2008, and now in 2012 she is left home again (after seemingly doing everything right).

Her mother also had to dedicate her life, just like all the other parents, just like her daughter, to this dream and USAG’s program. Sometimes parents take things harder than their kids do. I feel like she has every right to be upset, go ahead and tweet about it if that’s what she feels. The other parents of kids left at home have the same right, too, but at least they didnt have to sit back and watch for THREE Olympic quads (at least not yet). That would be a hard pill to swallow for any parent…watching your kid do this time after time after time.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

If Alicia was lied to and told she was a huge part of the team if she did A and B and then she did A and B and wasn’t chosen she has a right to be pissed.

Hollie was told she was competing for a spot that never existed. That was wrong.

These girls were pretty clueless and one quick search would have led them to videos of Marta saying, she wanted AA gymnasts.

How many times does Marta have to lie to these gymnasts before they realize they should not listen to her? That is why Marta could not take the chance of letting Chellsie compete at Nationals and Trials. She knew she would prove her wrong once again and she made sure that would never happen.

Marta needs to go. What she does is just not right.

We need to bring back the AA gymnast.

      • nero Says:

I see where you’re coming from. But some of that has to fall on Alicia’s shoulders. It’s not just USAG and Marta being dicks for not picking her. She didn’t qualify for trials back in 2004 because she messed up.

2008 she was looking good and earned her place on the team. Was she pushed too hard at camp and training? Yes. But in that moment right before beam she was not too injured to compete. She freaked herself out and fell. Then she couldn’t get it together on floor (had she ever fallen on her arabian before?)

It’s definitely hard for a parent not to see their kid’s dreams come true. Most of the girls at trials did everything right and didn’t make it, that’s just the way it is.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Life isn’t fair. It sucks but that is just the way it is.

      • (@lygill) Says:

No one’s saying that Alicia deserved a spot or anything like that – it’s just that something CLEARLY went on. USAG paid a homage to Chellsie, Shawn and Nastia after their retirements. What happened to Alicia? That’s just something I find very weird.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Alicia got her gift in form of a shiny world medal she did not deserve.

USA-Gymnastics didn’t do anything when Shannon Miller retired why would they care about a one event gymnast?

      • terrigymfan Says:

I normally love it when anybody publicly says that USA Gymnastics and Marta lack integrity, especially someone closely connected closely to elite level gymnastics like the mother of one of the gymnasts, because the statements are so true. However, Gail’s sure seems to be implying by those tweets that she thinks Alicia should have been at least an alternate on this team. Now if Gail was talking about something else, she should be more explicit and tell us what happened. Sending out vague, bitter-sounding tweets just looks like sour grapes, and also suggests that one of the girls on the current team or one of the alternates doesn’t deserve it, which is not fair to them.

  12. terrigymfan Says:

I also don’t like it that Gail referred to something she heard in church as justification for the criticisms leveled in her tweets. That’s the wrong attitude when attending church. I’m not saying I’m not as guilty at times as Gail on this point, but when you are listening to a message at church you should be thinking about how it applies to you, and how you should improve yourself in how you think and act. You shouldn’t be thinking about how the message means other people (your boss, your husband, your neighbor across the street, and yes, even USA Gymnastics and Marta) are not measuring up in some way. She should have left the church part out of it.

  13. Gymnee Says:

I got hollie vise mixed up with hollie dykes. Sorry I am a complete doofus.
