So has it been worth the wait?

Nastia plans more upgrades on bars. If she falls on this 6.5 routine will she still try and update? I never want to give Nastia advice but it makes more sense to go consistent at Nationals and upgrade big time at Trials. Since she has a free pass to Trials already.

According to GGMB this set is only out of a 6.5. Impressive for 5 months of training? yes but more impressive then Gabby or Kyla? Not in my opinion. She misses a few handstands and her pak is being helped along by daddy not to mention she doesn’t even show a full set in these two videos.

What do you think?

I posted the same link. Here is the second one.

Um, wow. That looks GOOD. Where are you seeing missed handstands? I thought maybe the half pirouette on the low bar could be a tad late, but other than that, she looked dead on. That dismount was one of the better ones I have ever seen from her, ever. Danger!

    • gymtruthteller Says:

5 seconds in she is clearly over the handstand position in the second video. In fact she is a little over in all 3 handstands but the first one is the worst.

I still don’t understand how THAT is a 6.6…seems like there’s some code whoring that I don’t know about. I know we haven’t seen the full routine here but still. What is Kyla’s D score again? I wonder if Gabby will go for a 7.0 routine.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

      It’s a 6.5 not a 6.6

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Sorry my finger hit the wrong button. But it’s only one-tenth higher than Kyla.

As for the code whore comment I just didn’t see how that’s a 6.5 and Gabby’s is only a 6.7. And code whore is catchy. So I like to use it – so there. No I don’t blame anyone for doing it.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

This is my blog and if you want to call someone a code whorer feel free to use it.

I hate seeing routines with real releases lose out to the shit Nastia put up in that routine.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I wasn’t talking to you GTT I was talking to the dude (dudette) named Alex.🙂 I’m totally going to stick with code whore!

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I know who you were talking I am just not amused with someone coming on here and telling people what they can say.

Nastia did an impressive job but that bar routine is not special for the UB specialist she was supposed to be. Marta told her she needed a 16 bar score and that ain’t it.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

The Bi , ono whatever the hell it is combination is total code whore. Those are highly rated skills.

  3. sanitynmotion Says:

I couldn’t help but notice Daddy gave her a little assist on the dismount as well. Should be interesting without spotters. I have yet to see a video of her doing a pac without a spotter.

    • Shawn Fan! Says:

agreed. I doubt that routine would like half that If daddy liukin wasn’t there to basically do the routine *with* her from the ground.

  4. nero Says:

I know everyone hear hates Nastia so you better cheer on Kyla to land her vault, she has apparently been crashing them in PT

If she can’t do that vault she’s just another bars/beam girl. Her SV on bars is 6.4, less than Nastia, and a 6.0 on beam, less than Nastia.

I think Kyla’s spot is in great jeopardy to the likes of Nastia and Bridget who couch gymnast says has 6.6 bars and probably a better floor than Kyla also.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

I’m starting to take on this opinion: if Kyla and her coaches are too stupid to figure out what’s going on (and if they haven’t pushed her to upgrade by now on at least her floor, and possibly her bar/beam dismounts) then she almost deserves to be in this position as a “bubble” gymnast.

Without upgrades from her it’s way too easy for Marta/USAG to seat Nastia in 2nd or 3rd place on bars and beam, in front of Kyla (without any kind of assists from Jordyn or Aly). If Nastia places above Kyla on bars, then for sure she’s in jeopardy.

The team could very well be Jordyn, Aly, Maroney, Douglas, and Nastia.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I agree. Kyla needs to score better then Nastia on bars and beam but if she comes close and hits her Amanar she takes the spot.

Take out Kyla and we not only lose a VT team finals but a bars and beam one too albeit replaced by whomever is ahead of her.

    • Shawn Fan! Says:

I was thinking the same thing as well!!! I thought, hmm if the liukins weasel their way onto another olympic team then who’s out?!? The only other person who I thought may be in jeopardy was ali but it can’t be her coz girlfriend can barely *finish* a bar routine in PT according to the video so Marta was never gonna count on her for bars. But then, with Gabby being the only strong bar worker, wouldn’t keeping Kyla round out the 3 for TF?

With the exception of Classics, Kyla has been clean on beam and hopefully she’ll do well enough in VISA’s to still be considered a beam specialist.

I think it’ll depend on how they do in VISA and trials. I still do not believe that Ali is a lock for the team. Her amanar should not have been fully credited at Secrets. Her bars is gross. her beam is barely passable. She is basically just a floor specialist….and with those random whistlings in her music and her basically grinding the floor half-way through her routine, I’d feel a little embarrassed putting her up for TF IMO.

  5. Alex Says:

also, just one gripe. Who cares if people code whore? It’s not like there’s some secret about which skills/connections give you more D points….so it is equal opportunity. If some athletes/coaches are better at playing the game of racking up D points…well, that’s part of the sport. I don’t think we should be ragging on athletes for “code whoring.” If you don’t like it, write FIG. The athletes are just trying to get the best scores possible. I know it’s what I’d do….wouldn’t you? Also, I will say that I’m neutral on Nastia making this team. I would actually rather see Bross make it, but I’m neutral on Nastia. If she comes to the table with routines that will help Team USA win gold, then good. If not, okay. I do think that she looks good in that video….even if you’re a hater you can’t deny it looks like she might actually have something. Can’t wait to see how it looks without the spots and all connected.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Do I need to explain to you what a blog is for? Opinion and I like code whore so it stays. (I guess this blog is for MY opinion)

Marta told Nastia she needed a 16 bar score and a bars specialist needs more then a 6.5 start value. Nastia is no better then anyone else if the best she has is what Bross has. Rebecca is capable of a 15.300 on beam if she hits. She has scored a 15.250 at worlds. That is what is needed for a specialist.

  6. Aerial Says:

Oh shiz…. selfish me is worried who she will knock off if she makes the team. Hooking up the laptop to the bigscreen tomorrow night so I can analyze it all with decent perspective. Girl has been working hard. Yikes.

  7. nero Says:

For the record I think Kyla is still on the team, she is one of the only girls who can get a 9.3-9.4 E score and actually deserve it and whenever she hits her switch ring back tuck I die a little because it’s that perfect.

But she is 5th I think and if Nastia starts hitting her routines she’ll definitely be the one who is bumped. I’m not sure Martha could resist a bars lineup with Liukin and Douglas.

My perfect team would be Wieber, Maroney, Raisman, Ross, Bross. I’ve slowly come to the realization that Becca will most likely not make it and that just breaks my heart, ugh I love her. Douglas is going, she can crash everywhere as long as she stays on bars.

I think Maroney is going even if she shows an OK floor, Douglas will probably go up first in TF anyway.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

That is what I hope happens myself. Gabby stays on bars falling everywhere else so Marta cannot take the chance of using her in prelims let alone team finals for any event but bars. That would eliminate Nastia from the picture. A girl can dream can;t she:)

      • sanitynmotion Says:

So basically you’re only in favor of Gabby to spurn Nastia…hahaha…you know I’m hoping even Sloane can do the same thing (keep Nastia off this team).

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Yes. I want Anna Li on this team over Nastia and she bugs me big

      • Lily Says:

Wait, but if Gabby falls everywhere but bars, wouldn’t Marta just replace her with Nastia if Nastia has decent bars and beam? Sorry, I’m a bit confused!

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Right now Gabby has a 6.7 start value. Nastia had a 6.5. Gabby has a much cleaner routine then what Nastia has shown. They are not counting on Gabby for beam or floor if they have a brain so it doesn’t matter what she does on that event. This is all speculation however but logically Gabby could be the UB specialist.

  8. JAS4 Says:

I have to say much better than I expected but I still think Kyla and Gabby’s bars are better but I think she and Bross are pretty close on bars

  9. Alex Says:

Sorry, I didn’t mean to say we shouldn’t say the words code whore…I just meant that I don’t know why it’s talked about so negatively when the girls do it. Just part of the game…that’s all I mean.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

No apologies You either need to spend more time here or go away to understand how this works.

    • Rhanda Says:

I think it has to do with the whole pretty gymnastics vs code whoring gymnastics. I miss the artistic elements of gymnastics, I think a lot of people do because it’s now all about code whoring. We understand why people do it, but I think you can code whore AND be artistic, but it’s harder and really quite rare.

I think of Shawn Johnson and Aly Raisman as being two excellent functional gymnasts, but they don’t have an artistic bone in their bodies. I’d rather see an artistic gymnast, but that’s not how gymnastics goes these days.

Re: Nastia. If she gets on the team it is because of what she did in the past, not because of what she’s done now. That’s the annoying thing for me: train for 5 months and make an Olympic team. So disrespectful!

  10. Gymsurfer Says:

To me Nastia’s bars looks labored and lacking in artistry or interesting skills. I find it very boring. I think her beam was very impressive, but her bars, not so much.

  11. chris Says:

I don’t really get Kyla’s gymnastics… I first saw her at Pac Rims and she never sparked to me to be an Olympian but all I’ve been seeing is positivity from her gymnastics. And I just don’t see it. I would prefer Maroney.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Kyla is clean, clean, clean. I personally love clean, clean, clean.

      • chris Says:

I feel no personality in her, no artistry .. she’sa stiff stick to me. Her floor isn’t a standout to me
