USA-Gymnastics tells fans to F*** off

SIGN THE PETITION. It’s not over yet

Here is all the E-Mails. E-Mail everyone, daily. Be polite

This will be the first and only time I will use a swear word in the headline. (I just took it out)

Steve Penny quotes

Steve Penny back tracks and I am not done advertising this issue. It’s not over yet even if USA-gymnastics thinks it is.

It’s been a few hours and I keep saying to myself, It’s over. Move on but you know what? I can’t

USA-Gymnastics wants us to go away. They want us to move on and forget about Chellsie so they can shove the feel good stories down our throats. They want this ended before Nationals starts up.

We can’t let that happen. We have to keep up.

I know this will be a colossal fail but I am going to post it anyway. Someone on twitter started a campaign to get Chellsie on the Ellen show. It’s not gonna happen but that doesn’t mean we can’t try.

Ellen has a link where you can tell them who you want on the show

You also need to keep bothering @usagym on twitter and sending Steve Penny e-mails. I don’t even care if this works or not anymore we just have to keep bugging USA-gymnastics and letting them no we won’t forget this.

The casual e-mail senders have already forgotten sending the e-mail but there is at least 15 regulars at this blog and if we each send one e-mail a day through the Olympics it will at least let them know we won’t forget what they did.

A funny twitter page Begin here. End no where. Priceless headline.

They are gone now. Now that is funny. You know USA-gymnastics had that done. Good thing they haven’t seen the Not Steve Penny

Oh and if yiu can bring yourself to do it, write TMZ about Chellsie. Nothing sells like a tabloid:)

Isn’t this interesting. I got two hits today from places that blocked their IP numbers from being seen.

  1. Gymbee Says:

Gotta love how “for the most part, fans have been cordial and nice” when just a few days before the same guy said the fans were “not nice”.

How dumb are they, honestly? And wonder why they don’t mention “we told chellsie she should retire”.

Fans are already bombarding the comments section under this post on USAG facebook page.

Then you get the odd “she wouldn’t have made it anyway so what’s the point” comment – if that’s the thought, USAG should just ask bross, sacramone and anyone else not included in “Martas 5 princesses” team to retire now too.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I know it sounds bad but I want this US team to fall a part at the Olympics. it’s the only way for justice to happen. Marta must fail

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I hope this year’s nationals is like last year’s nationals…and Shawn Johnson will pull the Memmel.

Let all the girls know they can be the new Chellsie in a few years. It’s all about what Marta wants, Marta gets.

      • Gymbee Says:

I just want that smug smile off Marta’s face. And I guess the only way that will happen is if the team fails. I’m trying to decide which one I want the most, USA taking gold or Martas smile wiped away.
I think karma’s gonna bite them in the ass where a situation would come up where their bar-workers get injured and the natural to fill in would’ve been Chellsie.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

If there is any real karma the US will not win gold. I have lost faith in Krama. 2008 did that to me.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I think 2008 should have been the sign for Marta to part ways. US was heavily favored, and while it WAS taking place in China (so tons of bias), they could have at least made a more favorable showing. What I remember is that Chellsie and Sam were both pronounced injured BEFORE the first event in quals. ASac freaked out and didn’t qualify for floor (I think she went out of bounds a couple times or something). Then on bars Nastia fell on her dismount but was able to make finals because of her code whoring. Then, continue to team finals where ASac freaked again on beam and floor. If that happens this year, when Romania and Russia and China are nipping at our heels, the US could easily not make podium. The Olympics is a WHOLE different ballgame than a gymnastics world championships. And if they take bronze or don’t make podium, someone should make Marta go back to Romania and stay there.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

No medal. I want no medal and while I find Romania OVERSCORED to the hilt I hope they get scored that way at the Olympics. Larissa and her shitty form get over a 15 on floor, I hope it happens

      • JAS4 Says:

Marta and Penny are just so afraid Chellsie would show up at Nationals and be fantastic and beat Nastia on bars making Nastia seem like less of an “asset” to the team

    • Lauren H Says:

Couldn’t have said it better Gymbee! Why should Chellsie’s fans be nice to him when USAG basically sh!t all over Chellsie? Steve Penny disgusts me, and if he thinks Chellsie’s fans are going to shut up after that lame statement, he’s delusional. In fact, I’m going to Nationals next weekend and I would love to express my anger visually. I think I’m going to start searching for stores that make personalized T-Shirts…

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Make a sign. A big sign and hold it up. T-Shirts are great but the bigger the better.

I am this close to flying out for the weekend with signs of my own but the thought of giving USA-gym money literally makes me ill.

      • JAS4 Says:

Wow aren’t they usually all pro Marta or whatever? Guess USA Gymnastics literally pissed everyone off lol

      • Gymbee Says:

Ooh yes totally make a huge sign!🙂

Another thing that angers me is it took them 5 days to give that wishy-washy response to fans. That’s all they could come up with?

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Nationals will be interesting. I can’t imagine that morale is that high; literally every girl (except Jordyn) needs for at least one other girl to pull an “epic fail” moment for a solid spot on that team. Especially the specialists. They are all pulling for one of the all arounders to injure themselves, or something of that nature. I hope this opens up a whole other controversy inside this sport.

Someone mentioned how Romania is like family and that the US girls have to “verify” themselves too much for anyone to feel like they have a solid spot on that team. That person was dead on. Nobody can count on anything – especially with Marta. I think she knows who she wants to take and barring any major mistakes or injuries, that will happen. We all know she dictates to the judges on how to score them. She’s already trying to find ways to explain how the likes of Nastia deserve a spot on the team over the likes of Kyla Ross.

  2. Gymsurfer Says:

Totally agree with you Gymbee. The point is not so much about Chellsie making the Olympics again, but rather to compete for the joy of competing and to end her career on a higher note, like Bross and A-Sac. I am very angry too and hoping that USAG will reconsider and let her compete.

  3. JAS4 Says:

If Chellsie Steve wants Chellsie to retire then so should he and Marta then Andy Memmel can have Steve’s job and Chellsie can take over Marta’s job and they can uncorrupt USA Gymnastics lol

  4. JAS4 Says:

Bekah apparently did and interview with Chellsie too

  5. Aerial Says:

With all the social media today and most fans aware of this, it’s the best chance we’ve ever had to bring the bullying and assholery of USAG and Penny to the forefront. I’ve been impressed with the detail in many of the articles, outlining all the different things we’re worried about, and without error. Kudos to the leaders (many of them readers here) who spearheaded much of this. It will be interesting to see if this improves or changes anything in the future. I don’t have much hope for Penny, who seems most disturbed by whatever voicemail rants he received, but I do have a hope that the time will come when these old windbags finally retire and a more in touch and less iron-fisty group of people will be at the forefront of selections.

  6. JAS4 Says:
I sent a message to The View as well they seem to be pretty good at spreading info also on twitter if anyone wants to tweet proctor and gamble or AT&T @PGNewsGlobal and @ATT if y’all can list some of the other sponsors to tweet that’d be great those were just the only two I could remember at the moment

  7. sanitynmotion Says:

Alrighty, I emailed Ellen that Chellsie needs to be on her show! Anyone know how we can get NCAA gymnastics involved? They have to know about USAG’s assholery, as Aerial put it nicely. Has Steve Penny responded to any of us? Haha, certainly not me! F*cker. I want to call HIM up and tell HIM to retire.

  8. Alex Says:

can someone tweet Ryan Seacrest? If he talked about it on his radio show that would be huge. Also TMZ would be great. They covered Shawn Johnson a bunch. I don’t have a twitter account (I know, lame). I will email both Ryan and TMZ a link to the great Chellsie article on deadspin. I say everyone tweet and email. Seems like it would be good social media/gossip for them….

  9. Alex Says:

Oh, sorry GTT. I missed that you had already posted about TMZ. Eh well. I sent in a tip just now…hopefully it will get some coverage. TMZ or one of those gossipy sites would be huge for us…would bring a lot of awareness. I was annoyed with the selection committee denying Chellsie’s petition, but Steve Penny’s statement just pissed me off. Hell. No. I am all over this now like white on rice. Let’s do this.

  10. LG Says:

Hey guys. Those of you going to Ellen or the The View, keep in mind from a press standpoint what will help get this through is the angle of is this the kind of man / people we want running a program consisting mostly of young girls, that is supposed to build, strong, confident, self assured young women. and quotes about fans being not nice, asking athletes to retire, etc are no good for the goal. Gymnastics is supposed to be tough obviously, but the athletes need support from the top and this throws into question how much support they have. Just a thought for pitching it out. Lets keep going.

  11. JAS4 Says:

I see that Bekah has jumped ship that her choice if she wants to but giving up isn’t going to change anything it’s only giving in to Marta and her puppets and continuing the reign of terror

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Bekah doesn’t matter. I find twitter hilarious tonight and the facebook feed has been just as much fun.

USA-Gymnastics made the world bitter over this Memmel decision. The fact that everyone is going mad is all their doing.

      • JAS4 Says:

Everyone is talking about it even people who barely know anything about Gymnastics! Even if Chellsie doesn’t get to Nationals (which I hope the backlash changes their minds) I think it could result in both Steve and/or Marta “retiring” or resigning I am all for Andy Memmel taking over Steve’s job and Chellsie taking over Marta’s lol

  12. Gymbee Says:

I won’t stop tweeting and e-mailing! This is something bigger now than Chellsie going to nationals, it’s about keeping the pressure on and trying to expose how corrupt and unfair USAG really is.

Steve Penny hasn’t repied to me either, even though I was polite. Strange huh!

  13. hurms22 Says:

    I’ll email Perez!

  14. Alex Says:

I bet Steve Penny isn’t even reading emails about Chellsie anymore. I sent him an email, but I would be surprised if anyone actually reads it. I do think we fans have at least sent a message that we WILL react when USAG bullies athletes and treats them unfairly. I do think we’ve accomplished at least that and they’ll think twice before making another decision like this. I don’t think it will necessarily create change, but I do think they will take a second thought. We just have to keep at it and hope we can do something that WILL create change. Someone needs to do a documentary/expose on the women’s gymnastics training camps and selection committees. Would be SUPER interesting and show the world a lot of things we fans wouldn’t like…..

    • gymtruthteller Says:

He doesn’t need to read the e-mails. He just has to see them coming. Send short sweet e-mails like,

Let Chellsie compete. Do the right thing. As long as they come to his box that is all that matters

      • Anonymous Says:

Guess she wants to start a Internet fight now that the twitter war is done lol

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I guess I started it by saying she was out for fame but still. She obviously wants to make a big deal of it and get her followers to come get me.

      • JAS4 Says:

Oh sorry that was me that posted the link I didn’t realize that it posted as anonymous again WordPress keeps doing that I think it’s cause I posted on some charity blog as anonymous it keeps posting as that if I forget to change is back to jas lol and as for twitter I think that’d be a great idea! I have two twitters a personal one and I just made another one for my gymnastics obsession lol so I could stop blowing up my friends and family’s twitter feeds about chellsie lol

  15. Gymsurfer Says:

What about contacting the journalist Joan Ryan, who wrote “Little Girls in Pretty Boxes”? You can do so via her website Maybe she can write an editorial or something?? She has a lot of power in the gymnastics world.

    • Exgymgurl Says:

I hate to say this, at this pt Steve Penny dug his heels in because we mentioned going to the sponsors. I’ve done it. If you feel strongly you should to $$$ talks and if they want USA gymnastics to change they will. Sarah is right, in Romania gymnasts are respected and revered. if Andreaa Raduucan was in shape and wanted to compete Romania would let her go to a national competition. Can you imagine if Nastia had been busted for drugs like Andrea was Shawn only accepting gold for the US and saying it still belongs to Nastia like Simona Amanar did? Not in a million years. It’s not. Team it’s a bunch of individuals who’s parents buy their way in. It’s not about who’s the best. It’s about who is the most politically correct Barbie doll with the brownest nose and no big boobs….

  16. Exgymgurl Says:

I think Steve penny read mine. I told him While I disagreed with him I was rather upset at being called uncordial because I had tried to be the opposite. He took the words I used in his new description of Chellsies fans… My exact verbiage. I had copied the Memmels on it as well. Those unidentified IP addresses are government surveillance. Your a rabble rouser.

Bekah is disappointing, that’s so negative regardless of being a turncoat still…. Sad

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Bekah is out to be famous. She doesn’t care about fairness or the crap being pulled.

She doesn’t matter anyway. I can see whys she is fed up with the twitter feeds because she thinks she did her part. She’s a real journalist now because she bothered Chellsie to get an interview. Honestly she is a non issue for me.

This situation is about justice for all the gymnasts not favored by Marta. The ones that deserves a real shot without her biased opinion messing up the facts.

Chellsie was never the favorite. She went out there and proved it all on her own and Marta had no choice to take notice. Kyla Ross did the same thing. Shannon Miller did it back in 91. She was being beat by Kerri Strug in US meets. As soon as she went over seas and won USA-gymnastics had no choice but to take notice. They would have kept Shannon is the background if they had their choice. She was never the choosen one.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I feel like a lot of the “favoritism” has to do with who your coach is…Shannon proved that you could not be coached by a Karolyi and still make the Olympics and be a stand-out star. Memmel’s dad probably had Marta’s number all along and she knew it. I hope he does an expose on all of this. That would be awesome, but then again nobody with the potential to be an elite would want him as their coach because they would know it would be an automatic Marta blackball for them. It might already be the case now. I feel like Kyla isn’t favored because her coaches aren’t one of the “big national” ones like WOGA or AOGA. I felt like Shawn wasn’t a favorite at first because of the same thing back in ’07 and ’08 (but nobody could ignore her at the time because she was the “phenom” of that quad).
Maybe Chow is now drinking the Kool-Aid, because all of a sudden Marta is showing total favoritism to a Chow athlete (although I heard a rumor that even Gabby was being pressured at Classics to compete AA because Marta was telling her she was a “bubble gymnast”…which she kind of is depending on what Nastia can do but still). ASac and Raisman’s coach might already have been drinking the Kool-Aid too, who knows. But if you basically go against Marta’s regime (i.e., support not attending the camps or point a finger at her publicly) you’re done. I also feel like if Jordyn weren’t so awesome (she’s obviously the best right now, even with her bars issues) she’d be positioning it so that Jordyn was on the “bubble” because didn’t Geddert say something publicly about Marta’s camp system? Although it was still very “politically correct.”
I also agree – Marta has to be bribing the judges in the US or something (and that’s why it would be awesome if Chellsie became a judge an exposed her a$$) because no way in hell would Aly have gotten those bar and vault scores (even beam – she was like Shawn Johnson was in ’08 – not enough flexibility in her leaps and never points her toes to save her life) internationally. I don’t know why Marta would do that though because it’s not like that’s going to change; she’s only giving her athletes a false sense of confidence. No way would Aly get 60 points with her Classics performance at the Olympics. Aly will still not make podium in the AA internationally – especially at the Olympics this year, when Romania now has Iordache and Russia will serve up BOTH Mustafina and Komova. If anyone has a chance with that second AA spot it would be Kyla. Hell, even Gabby (if she didn’t make any major mistakes) would have a better chance. And I’m still hoping Shawn shows up at nationals and pulls a Memmel; even Shawn would have a better shot at it!

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I hate newspapers without places for comments. No one can speak the truth because the article doesn’t let us.

If Aly hits and others make mistake she could make the podium. Elise Ray could have made the podium with all the mistakes in 2000. If she had hit bars she would have been third or 4th I forget.

If the AA is a mess Aly has a chance. With this code it is a possibility.

Kyla scores better outside the US. She needs to upgrade the floor or she has no shot. I still can’t believe she hasn’t upgraded it. Pure speculation on my part but Marta is the one forcing this kid to keep the difficulty down low on floor. She either wants her out or she is trying to hide her. Either way it is pissing me off.

I cannot for the life of me figure out why her coach would have her keep that floor routine at a 5.5 and not try and upgrade her beam dismount. Even a double pike would be better then that double tuck.

Even with Kyla’s beam bobble that routine would have scored higher then a 14.800 outside the US. They kept her down to prop up Nastia for beam

      • terrigymfan Says:

I agree Shannon was never a USA Gymnastics favorite but it is a good thing she was not. Karolyi gymnast. They attracted a lot of great athletes and got a lot on the Olympic team, but really almost none performed that well at the Olympics. They were all pretty much beaten down by the time they got there due to the constant overtraining, verbal abuse, and starvation they received at Karolyis. Look at Kim Zmeskal. She was beatened down mentally by the time of the 1992 Olympics. Bela claimed others like the media caused it but he was her coach. Name one Karolyi gymnast who ever did great at tge Olympics other than Mary Lou, and she was only with the Karolyis a short time. Shannon is lucky the Karolyis never got their fangs in her.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

That is a great point but I don’t think Nunno was much better. He had Shannon compete so much by 1995 she was broken. She never got to compete healthy except for 1991. Imagine what she could have done with her career if she wasn’t injured in 92, 93, 94 and 95?

      • Biyatch Says:

I can totally see Alicia coming in and beating Nastia on beam next week and throwing the whole speculation scenarios into tailspins. While Nastia is obvi the favorite, since her comeback began (you know, like legit, 2 years ago) Alicia has become the darling. And from a PR standpoint she is way more relatable/marketable then the plastic pink princess of the bars. Plus she has the whole adversity storyline x10 now. Unfortunately for Alicia, she wasn’t able to get floor back and vault is the last place that the US needs help.

Personally I would have loved to have seen ASac and Maroney diva it out last year in the vault finals.

      • terrigymfan Says:

Nunno worked under Bela at one point. Still, he was never verbally abusive and actualy built Shannon up mentally rather than tore her down. That’s at least the impression I have. However, she was his one big ticket to fame and I think he rode that horse for all she was worth, wearing her down in that way.. It is remarkable that she was able to endure all those injuries, have such a great Olympics in 1992, go through all the body changes of puberty, and then returned to win an individual gold (plus team gold) at the 1996 Olympics. How many tried that but just never could do it?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

If he had just laid off her competing every meet in 94 she might have been healthy by 95 and 96. What gets me is she won 5 medals at the 93 olympics. Imagine what she could have done at the individual event finals. She would have easily beaten Milo on bars and coulkd have had a floor and beam medal.

Is that you Bekah linking to your comments on twitter to my

I do like Bekah. She got in a fight with Moceanu on twitter. Thoese are always fun but lets face the facts. Most bloggers are out to be famous. They have twitters and facebook and contact the gymnasts. It’s just the way it is.

I am going to get a twitter but only for the regulars on this blog. It is going to be private and I have only contacted one gymnasts mom but she needed to know something .

      • Bekah Says:

No, it wasn’t me who left that tweet. To be honest, I don’t even know who to embed it like that. Pretty cool.

But no, I’m not out to be famous. If I were I wouldn’t work in Social Services and blog on the side. There are much quicker paths to fame.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Sorry you went to spam automatically. If you have read this blog before you will know it is just sarcastic opinionated opinion. I still feel most bloggers are in blogging to get famous which is why they advertise so much.

  17. Exgymgurl Says:

    USA gymnastics is an embarrassment

  18. sanitynmotion Says:

Anyone notice the numerous articles already being fed to the press by USA Gym? Here’s one:

Wow. I guess they are using their weight to make it appear Chellsie has announced her retirement despite the fact she obviously had said she wasn’t ready to do that. I seriously hope she shows up again in 2013 and wins another world title. That would be a nice slap in Marta’s face.

Way to spin things, USAG. I hope all of your athletes are taking notice.

  19. rhodanyc Says:

Yep, that’s an AP article so it’s being syndicated everywhere. Out of all of Chellsie’s quotes, it’s interesting and certainly no coincidence that the one that became the AP headline is about her moving on. USAG’s power seems to know no bounds, and it’s a little scary.

WHO does USAG have pictures of to influence the AP in such a way? If I were a sports writer, I’d tell these people to fuck off and that they’re lucky their sport is even getting coverage.

    • JAS4 Says:

USAG is the new KGB lol Chellsie wouldn’t retire so they felt the need to spread the rumor that she did to try to get rid of the negative attention they’re getting but anyone who actually pays attention isn’t buying it
