New Chellsie Memmel update. May 29th

Nope there is no update. I LIED Muhaha. Why did I lie because this poll needs more signatures and if you have not signed it get your butts in gear.

It has to be at least at 2000. I realize media backlash is dying down so please make sure you e-mail Steve Penny if you haven’t.

Even if you don’t think Chellsie deserves to go to Nationals one thing she does deserve is to go out how she wants to go out, competing.

If you need a little bit of motivation to sign this petition watch this youtube video below. It’s of Chellsie ending Trials last year. She closed out the show and brought down the house. This is the ending she deserves.

If watching Marta stand up and clap with that pompous fake smile on her face doesn’t make you want to spite her than you don’t deserve to be a gymnastics fan.

Here is the link to the petition

I am pretty sure this is thee, Kathy Johnson (Houston, TX)

Paul Ruggeri (manlius, NY) just did

NBC Linked the petition. Thanks to EXGymgurl and Lindsey. One for the info and the other for the link.

Happy Retirement Magglio.

Um I signed it twice. I will sign it for my husband too. I went on a rant about Marta on the USAG FB page and ended up taking it off for fear of getting blocked or something. But it was up for a good four hours.🙂

    • terrigymfan Says:

I also signed it for my husband in addition to signing it myself. Of course it was probably like when you signed for your husband. One of those, “Sure honey, whatever you want,” as he was glued to the tube watching the basketball game last night.

  2. JAS4 Says:

I really hope Chellsie gets to go to Nationals if nothing else maybe this will force the retirement of Marta although I’m sure one of her puppets will take over and the madness will continue

    • sanitynmotion Says:

At least hopefully this will shed some light on the whole selection process and Marta debacle. I think a lot of insiders would prefer some changes made to this system…namely, the amount of power that one individual has. They can’t voice their opinions though because they can’t risk being blackballed by Marta.

I mean, she hasn’t even brought home a team Olympic gold and she’s on her third chance when the US is heavily favored and are coming off of a World title. She could have done it in 2004 and 2008, and yet it didn’t happen either time because half the team was injured (via boot camp) or mentally exhausted.

I can’t think of any other Olympic sport where one person has so much power and authority.

  3. terrigymfan Says:

Ha! I guess I deserve to be a gymnastics fan. I passed GTT’s test with flying colors. Thanks GTT for pushing this.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I do decide who gets to be a fan so your are welcome:)

    • gymtruthteller Says:

If you have a lot of gym fans add a link to the petition to your facebook.

      We need more signatures.

    • terrigymfan Says:

I don’t see why they even have judges at these events. They are really just a series of tryouts for Marta’s benefit. The scores mean nothing. Speaking of the judges, did you notice in Marta’s interview with the media that she said she “briefed” the judges beforehand about how she wanted “hard” scoring. Can you imagine any other sport where someone who us involved in the coaching aspect can give orders to judges or referees before a contest?

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Haha, in water polo if you try to do that as a coach (tell the refs what to do before the competition) you get thrown off the pool deck! I wonder if Chellsie had not fallen off and scored below the 14, would her petition been accepted? OR better question: if Nastia had fallen off and got below 14, would she be denied? Well all know the answer to that one!

      • JAS4 Says:

Nastia could have fallen five times on beam and her petition would have been accepted

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Nastia got a free pass to Nationals before the competition. She could have fallen five times

      • JAS4 Says:

Lol and all she had to do was go to camp and do a few giants on bars and bam! She’s back on the National team and has a free pass to nationals

      • gymtruthteller Says:

and they called that hard scoring? Did she give this demand to the beam judges for Nastia?

      • JAS4 Says:

Aly and Jordyn’s beams should have been way more than a tenth ahead of Nastia in my opinion Nastia’s beam should have been maybe low 14s not high

      • gymtruthteller Says:

The bar judges ignored Gabby’s dead hang too. She didn’t give that demand to those judges

      • JAS4 Says:

If you asked Marta she’d probably swear that Gabby and Nastia are better on bars than Lhorkina was and better than Komova lol

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Sorry forgive me…but where was Gabby’s dead hang? I heard about this from another poster and I couldn’t spot it! Was it when she transitioned from low to high after her pac sequence? I know, I feel stupid. But I believe it because I heard it elsewhere.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

It was almost the end of her routine but I try and avoid her because she annoys me. I’ll watch just for you, hold on:)

      • gymtruthteller Says:

at 44 seconds in. She definitely paused and pulls up. Not as bad as the Chinese but a deduction.

      • JAS4 Says:

        Shawn and Gabby fluff
I’m guessing Shawn must still be friends with her ex Ryan edwards since she just told everyone to tweet him for his birthday I think he has moved on a few days ago he tweeted a picture of him and a girl in his lap

      • gymtruthteller Says:

yea I don’t think so. I am done with Shawn until she competes and Gabby interests me not.:)

      • JAS4 Says:

Lol yeah there is some Nastia fluff going around on twitter from like the Dallas news or something I couldn’t bring myself to watch it lol

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Keep the info coming. Someone might give a shit:) just not me.

      • JAS4 Says:

Here’s the Nastia fluff if anyone can stand to watch lol

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        MY EYES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

      • terrigymfan Says:

Maybe Marta only ordered them to score Chellsie low, just to make sure she didn’t get a 14 even if she didn’t fall.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Gabby hid that dead hang pretty well because I barely saw it. Anyway – can someone fire Tim Daggett already? Komova’s bars (and Mustafina’s) are going to score MUCH HIGHER than Gabby’s. I like Gabby’s bars, don’t get me wrong, but she still needs to add difficulty to come up to par with those two (and with Ms. Tweddle). I saw Mustafina’s second bars set in Euros and if she does that in the Olympics – wow. Game over.

  4. Melissa Says:

Ok ok I signed already! Haha poor girl😦 even if she has no shot in hell at making the team this year I do agree with letting her at least try. At least she showed up unlike Johnson who I was really pulling for. Now not so much. Anyways she’s a wonderful gymnast who deserves another shot, or at least go out fighting!

  5. Melissa Says:

Ok I have an unrelated question…don’t shoot me for asking! Do you have to compete all 4 events at nationals even if you are just a “specialist?” I just thought it would be interesting to see Nastia vault and do floor when we all know she has not been training them the past 6 months!

    • gymtruthteller Says:

The rule is that if you compete at Classics to qualify for Nationals and you only compete say bars and beam and you qualify then those are the only two events you can compete at Nationals. If you compete bars, floor and beam those are the only events you can compete at Nationals, etc..

Anyone else can compete all 4.

Nastia had her petition approved before the Classics and there is no rule for qualifying to Nationals (from Classics) for one event. Unless Marta makes it up as she goes along which she did.

      • JAS4 Says:

Please tell me this is just a joke there seems to be a debate as to whether it’s true or not

      • gymtruthteller Says:

It can’t be true. USA-Gym isn’t that stupid it would want no

      • JAS4 Says:

Yeah lol I’m surprised Marta hasn’t made Amanars manditory for everyone but Nastia lol

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Let me get this straight…Nastia’s petition was approved BEFORE she even competed??? Before she stepped on the beam? Yet Chellsie’s wasn’t? I would think Chellsie would have more of a “right” to such a quick approval given she would have placed second in the nation last year had she not injured herself, and given she showed a full floor and bars routine at Classics during podium training. All Nastia did was swing around and do a pac (spotted) on bars! That makes me furious!
If that’s the case then this was definitely a plot by Marta to slowly eliminate any potential blockades to her “chosen few.” What a b*tch.

  6. nero Says:

Ok off topic but I was just thinking how awkward would it be if Elizabeth Price made the team and the USA qualifies in first

Afan would probably go last on floor from Russia and then Price would go first for team USA and they both have the same music!

I’m sure most of the audience and maybe even some of the commentators from around the world would think there was some mistake and they played Afan’s music again by accident

    • missy Says:

as much as this is an interesting thought, Afan will definitely have a new FX music this year🙂

  7. Exgymgurl Says:

Kathy and Chellsies mom are friends I’m sure it is her. Kathy sent Chellsie a nice tweet to enjoy bike riding with her mom this morning.

  8. Exgymgurl Says:

Somebody at NBC listened. id be curious to know what Suzanne Youclan thinks and if she would sign. Considering Marta buried KUPETS before her comeback in 08 even started…

    • JAS4 Says:

Does anyone know if Chellsie is trying to fight the ruling against her petition?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

She’s not talking. It makes me wonder if something isn’t up?

      • JAS4 Says:

I wonder she is trying to do something but is keeping it quiet in case it doesn’t work or because she isn’t the type to make a huge spectacle but I hope she is doing something

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I meant to bite on this in the e-mail but Kupets and 08? what exactly happened? I remember something but nothing really, spill:)

  9. K Says:

I checked out M&M’s website. They have the link to the petition right on their front page!

  10. terrigymfan Says:

This is only marginally related to this thread but since one of its tags is “Marta Karolyi Sucks” I thought I would mention it because it is hilarious. I found this on YouTube. It is a video someone took of Bela Karolyi introducing the 1988 Olympic team when they were honored at the 2008 Visa Championships. After rambling incomprehensibly for awhile, he introduces the team and forgets Chelle Stack’s name. It looks like he might have forgot Rhonda Faehn’s name too. It’s pretty amazing since Chelle was one of his gymnasts – he coached her personally for 4 years – and he made a lot of disparaging remarks about her and her family in his book “Feel No Fear.” Plus she already had been judging for several years, so had hardly disappeared from the gymnastics scene.

What does this show about Marta? Well to me it just demonstrates how generally out of it Bela was even when he was coaching. He really never developed much of a personal relationship with or understanding of any of his gymnasts. I can’t believe he really harbored such personal ill-will against Chelle and her family as he expressed in his book if he couldn’t even remember her name later on. I suspect a lot – probably most – of what he said in his book about Chelle and her family came from Marta. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was Marta who sat down with the ghost writer of that book and provided most of the material. Rightly or wrongly (I think mostly wrongly but that is another story), Marta hated Chelle’s parents and took it out on them and Chelle too by the way she had Bela (or the ghost writer) describe them in the book.

Just another example of what happens to a gymnast or anybody else in the gymnastics community who gets on Marta’s bad side. Lastest example: Chellsie Memmel

Here is the link to the video:

    • sanitynmotion Says:

I don’t even know WHAT he’s saying! How can he forget the name of one of his athletes though, even if he wasn’t that much involved with her? That’s crazy. Maybe he’s losing it mentally and they’re all keeping it under wraps.

      • terrigymfan Says:

He might not have worked with her or seen her much in recent times but he worked with her about has much as any of his gymnasts for awhile. In almost all of 1988 and for part of 1989 she was really one of his “up and comers.” The fact that he could not remember her name shows to me he really never got to know any of his gymnasts very well on a personal level — what made them tick, etc. He was nothing but a screamer and showman as far as I’m concerned but maybe not particularly devious. Marta was the devious one and still is.

I agree it does look on that video like he’s getting Alzheimer’s or something.

      • terrigymfan Says:

BTW, Sandy, I know you have said you like Kim Zmeskal. So do I. Here are a couple of nice YouTube human interest clips of her while she was competing, one in 1991 just before her world championship and the other in 1998 when she was trying to make a comeback as a 22 year old:

I know a couple of moms who have daughters at Texas Dreams, Kim Zmeskal’s gym. They say no one has anything bad to say about Kim.

Finally, here is a clip NBC ran on the Kim Kelly stoty at the 1992 Olympics. Not too hard hitting (of course it wouldn’t be since it was by the network showing the Olympics) but nonetheless interesting.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

        Thanks Terri

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Oops I hit enter too fast – thanks! It makes me really sad to see how Kim Kelly’s dream ended. I hope at some point this comes to light and everyone can be clued in as to how Marta really works (or how the USAG org really works…not sure if there’s a difference between the two?) Anyway – there are a lot of idiots on FB that think that Chellsie was told the 14.0 rule beforehand and that she was clear on that. They also think Nastia has been attending camps and verified both routines (the “leaked” gym video). Obviously someone’s blowing smoke. It just boggles me how preferential treatment is given to some but not to others – especially when Chellsie was competing as soon as LAST YEAR and had verified her floor and bars basically during podium training. That’s already more than Nastia has verified. And HER petition was allowed even before she mounted that beam?
Plus – and everyone knows how I love Shawn – she got to go to nationals last year even though she fell twice at Classics. That was the FIRST time I’ve seen major mistakes like that from Chellsie in competition. Obviously a fluke, but Marta wasted no time in using that as a scapegoat technique for avoiding her stupid injury-causing boot camps.
I just REALLY hope that if Team USA blows it in London (gets bronze or worse at Team finals and fails to make more medals than a team and an AA, which really COULD happen considering some really good girls might not make the team – namely, Maroney – who is the easiest clench for at least ONE gold medal), Marta GETS FLIPPIN FIRED from her position. If anyone has had more chances than not, it’s Marta/the Karolyi camp. This will be her THIRD CHANCE for a team gold a year after USA won worlds and is heavily favored to win. Let’s see what happens.

I mean – given the crop of girls this year, the best chances at gold are Maroney’s vault and potentially the team…”maybe” the AA if someone from Russia falls somewhere, or if Jordyn has the meet of her life. Which could happen. Gold on vault would be Moroney’s if she makes the team. Bars – doubt Gabby or Liukin would even medal given Komova, Mustafina, Team China and Tweddle with home team advantage. Beam – “maybe” Kyla or Jordyn if Russia or China effs up. Floor – I can’t see the international judges giving it to Aly, even if she gets the last spot to perform. I feel like floor will belong to a Russian or Romanian – or that Sui Lou from China.

Ok sorry for the rant. Again.

Starting printing the minute it hits 2000, so if you know anyone else that will sign, get them going! I’m going to print copies for multiple people at USAG and send them overnight mail so they get there fast. Making my short list of those who are getting a copy now, thanks for the info on members of USAG in the other post!
Neat to see it posted on M&M’s site and on NBC😀
Thanks for helping get the word around you guys🙂

2001 at 445 central, in three days with no major media good job. I have a street address for the Karolyi ranch and an email for their camps if anyone wants to send anything there.

      • JAS4 Says:

I would love to send the Karolyi’s an email rant!

      • exgymgurl Says: is the only one I found and thats for their private camps….. who uses aol?

      • Thegirl Says:

Thanks, but all I did was start it, then it took on a life of it’s own lol… Oh I’d love to have the Karolyi ranch address if you wouldn’t mind. I have no problem sending copies of it there, would be my absolute pleasure….. *smirk*

      • exgymgurl Says:

google karolyi camp and when you get to that page, if you look for directions to drop off campers thats the physical address you would need for FEDEX

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Can you send me a copy by e-mail?

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Here’s what a poster on FB emailed to Steve Penny:

        Hi Mr. Penny!

My name is Kayleigh Walsh. I am a sophomore at Slippery Rock University, north of Pittsburgh, PA. I’ve been involved with USA Gymnastics for years – attending a member club for the past 11 years and competing in the women’s program as an athlete for 7. Now, I’m also studying to become a judge. I am well aware that you have probably received many emails on this topic, but if you could please take the 5 minutes to read or even reply to my message I would greatly appreciate it.

Being involved in gymnastics has been the best experience of my life. I was blessed enough to finish my competitive career last spring with a state gold medal on floor. I was truly able to leave the sport with no regrets or “what-ifs”.

However, for Chellsie Memmel, this will not be the case. As you know, she had a rough performance on the balance beam at this past weekend’s Secret US Classic, and the women’s selection committee agreed upon denying her petition to Visa Nationals next weekend.

I’m going to lay out a few reasons why you and the rest of the selection committee should really rethink this decision.

        1. Chellsie Memmel is one of the most decorated gymnasts in USA history. She stepped into the 2003 World Championships at the last minute as an alternate, and ended up helping the USA to their first ever world team gold medal… and added her own gold on the uneven bars. She was an alternate on the 2004 Olympic team. She earned the all-around gold at the 2005 world championships, and added silvers on bars and beam. She lead the team to a silver at the 2006 world championships. She finally made the Olympic team after all of this and helped earn a team silver medal. That would be 7 world and Olympic medals – the same as Shawn Johnson.

        2. This is probably my most important point: the rules for qualification to nationals are completely unclear. Nowhere in writing does it say that one-eventers must score a 14.0 to advance to championships, and it has been said that the qualifying score of 14.000 was never made clear to Chellsie. Another point of question is qualification through being a member of the 2011 Worlds or Pan Ams team. Chellsie was named to the Pan Am team, but had to withdraw due to medical necessity. Technically, as she was named to the team, doesn’t that qualify her? I can see where the confusion lies in this, as she didn’t actually compete, but again, the wording is very unclear as to what “being a member” specifies – simply being a member, or actually going and becoming a credentialed athlete. Last year, Shawn Johnson competed at the Covergirl Classic and performed on two events – bars and beam – and did not meet the 28.000 qualification score. Yet, her petition was accepted. This is by no means a knock on Shawn Johnson, but merely a point to consider. Either the rules are clear cut and brutally fair for everyone, or you bend the rules for everyone.

        3. Chellsie Memmel DESERVES to finish her career in a well-respected, dignified manner. This girl has literally torn her body apart for this organization – between competing with her torn shoulder in 2006 (which, without doing, your organization would be one team silver shorter) and competing on a broken foot in 2008 (again, without doing, USAG would be an Olympic silver shorter), she has literally ripped herself from limb to limb for this team. For this well respected, amazing athlete to simply be done after a completely uncharacteristically bad beam routine is disrespectful not only to Chellsie herself, but to her fans, fellow athletes, and the USA Gymnastics organization.

In closure, Chellsie deserves the chance to retire gracefully and on good terms with USA Gymnastics. You have nearly 2,000 signatures on an online petition asking you to reconsider, so she clearly has plenty of fan support behind her. Some of these signatures even come from her fellow competitors. The decision to not allow her to compete came much too quickly and swiftly to have been truly thought out.

I’m not saying that Chellsie has to be in contention for the US Olympic team. I’m not even saying that she should qualify through to Olympic Trials in San Jose. All I’m saying is that Chellsie has been an integral part of the USA Gymnastics family for so long now that to shoot down her petition so that she can finish her career gracefully is a slap in the face to her, her family, her friends, her fans, and her fellow teammates.

I urge you to reconsider. Thank you.

        Kayleigh Walsh

    • Thegirl Says:

If you go to Camp Karolyi’s website and click for the application, it lists the physical address on the application. I checked the addy in Google Earth to be sure and I’m sure it is correct.

  12. terrigymfan Says:

I could listen to your rants all day Sandy. One more quick thing about Marta. We live in the Dallas area about 3 hours from the Karolyi Ranch. My husband and I thought it would be fun to take our daughters down to the Ranch and watch the training of the Olympic team that is supposed to take place there in mid July. I knew there wasn’t much chance it would be open to the public but I thought I would inquire anyway so I called the Ranch back in March. I think it was pretty much closed or something because the phone just rang. No answering machine or anything. I called back a couple of days later and it rang awhile and finally someone answered. It was an older sounding woman with a Romanian accent. I asked her if the public could attend the Olympic team training session and she just laughed, like it was the craziest thought in the world that it might be open to the public. I didn’t think it was that crazy considering the men’s Olympic team training session in Colorado Springs will be open to the public.

I think I might have been talking to the great Marta herself but who knows.

  13. exgymgurl Says:

I wonder if we can pull Martas/ Belas personal email off those stills in Doms video? Hmmm….

  14. sanitynmotion Says:

That’s another thing. Why is selection, training, etc. so different for the men vs. women? The women have to go through the ringer, whereas the men find out in a much more conventional way who will be competing at the Olympics. In 2008 it was nuts – the men were announced RIGHT after Trials (which is the way it should be) while the women had to fight through another excruciating round of closed door competitions at the Ranch. They should have similar standards for both sexes.

Any time something like training is not open to the public it’s probably most likely something sketchy is going on – i.e., politics is being played out where someone who deserves to be on the team will be left off for whatever reason.

The starting lineups of nationals have been posted – Shawn Johnson will be doing bars with Nastia. It also lists ASac doing a floor, so I don’t know if someone is smoking something or what.

I really just kind of hope Nastia falls off beam and bars, and then gets to “petition” her way to trials. Imagine the uproar then!

    • Biyatch Says:

Alicia’s rotation group starts on floor, she’s def not doing floor.

Going by the draw and her lack of presence there, I guess Bridgey Caquatto is officially done with elite. Don’t really understand the gym change if she was just sticking to NCAA.

  15. nero Says:

I like what everyone is doing to show Chellsie that we care about her, but I have this weird feeling. The creator says that they’ll mail it after a week, what if USAG actually agree to put Chellsie through?

Then she’ll only have a week of practice and preparation (I doubt she’s practicing right now) and she might push her body too much

I would much rather have her rest and heal, come back next year do well at nationals or maybe worlds and retire on her own terms.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I think this will be it if she doesn’t get to Nationals and I don’t think for a second she has stopped training. Her dad is too smart for that.

I hope all the US gymnasts break and they come to Chellsie and she tells them to go to hell. Then the Olympic team is led by Brandie Jay and MLT’s lower level gymnasts. THAT would serve Marta right.

      • JAS4 Says:

I don’t think she’s stopped training especially since they posted a link to the petition on the m&m gymnastics website I think they are trying to get the decision over ruled or else I think they would have announced that they weren’t going to try and do anything about it

      • nero Says:

She may not have left the gym completely but I doubt she’s training full sets like she would if she were going. Remember what her dad said last year, that he’s not going to push her? Why would they be training full on, 3 months post surgery, towards a goal that as of right now isn’t going to happen? That is just putting her body through more than is needed

And I’m not sure hoping other US girls get injured is the right way to direct one’s anger. Martha doesn’t put Chellsie through so you hope Maroney or somebody else gets hurt and misses out on their Olympic dream?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

The end justifies the means. To me.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

OMG that would be awesome. Everyone gets sick or injured and team USA cannot even make team finals in London.

I mean, what will it take to have Marta and her cronies fired???

      • sanitynmotion Says:

OK nero is right. Not injured. How about just stuck in a bathroom somewhere and there’s no Twitter rescue to let them out.

      • nero Says:

You guys can wish and hope whatever you want, it doesn’t bother me. That is just not me. I don’t want Shawn on the team but I don’t pray every night that she tears her ACL again. When Mustafina got hurt I was really sad for her, even though I don’t really like her

But these girls aren’t responsible for Martha’s decisions so crushing their Olympic dreams to prove a point seems a little harsh

      • gymtruthteller Says:

It works for GGMB. They wish terrible mean things and they happen.

The future is more important then the current if everyone gets hurt and we fail ALL the girls will be better off for it in the end when Marta goes away, for good.

And I am not really wishing for injuries to anyone but two broken arms for I just think if it did happen I wouldn’t cry over it.

God I’m so bad at linking “usagymnastics feeling the backlash oF Chellsie Memmels denied petition expect a response by the end of the week stay tuned” – Dominique Moceanu on twitter AND the competition roster says ” subject to change” did we actually do something here?

  18. Exgymgurl Says:

USA-Gymnastics better wake up soon so I can blog I will be blogging about this

      • JAS4 Says:

Maybe Marta has already assured them that Gabby is going to the Olympics lol and they believed her cause she’d never screw them over of course lol

      • gymtruthteller Says:

The good thing Gabby has going for her if she competes AA even if she sucks at it. She can be the bars girl and back up the rest of the events even if she does a DTY . Would U use her on beam or floor in team finals HELL NO but in case of injury she could step in. In that same respect so could Mckayla.

Of course Marta would never screw over a gymnast, duh Wink wink:)

      • JAS4 Says:

Of course she wouldn’t…. Marta is a modern day honest Abe…. Remember when she chopped down that cherry tree and said, “I can not tell a lie”…. Gabby has no worries of being screwed by Marta ever not even for Nastia we all know Marta would never do such a thing lol

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Gabby would get a better score on beam than Mckayla…she got a higher beam score at Classics even with a huge mistake. For whatever reason Mckayla only scores high 13/low 14 on beam and bars (is it her difficulty???)…I should look more into this. Gabby’s floor isn’t bad too – just her music is awful. And some of her choreo. And she needs to stay in bounds on that one tumbling pass.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

A better score yes but as big of a liability. Classic scores don’t matter. Marta created those.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

The real question is would you want either one of them up in team finals on beam?

      • nero Says:

I would trust Maroney more on beam even if her score would be lower, she seems to have that attitude where she wouldn’t get too overwhelmed by the situation

Someone made a comment about Gabby’s floor that made me go hmmmmm they said if she had slower music and slightly less spastic choreography that would help her stay in bounds on her tumbles because she would be less ‘bouncy’ Didn’t Travis Wall say he wanted to choreograph her routine?

      • sanitynmotion Says:

No I wouldn’t want to use Gabby or Maroney for team finals on beam or floor…unless I guess they were killing it in podium training? I am still hoping Maroney competes a good floor at nationals and trials because she deserves to be on that team. She’s a for-sure gold on vault.

  20. nero Says:

If they do overturn it you know Moceanu will go all “It was ME and my huge FAN-BASE because I’m ME and the best gymnast evarrrrr and everyone is still mad that MY petition was denied!!!!!”

NO Chellsie is a BAMF and we love her for being a real life super hero

    • gymtruthteller Says:

She will try and take credit but the ball started with the petition and the people on facebook that zillioned the signatures from 15 to 1000 way before Dominqiue got involved.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

Not to mention every gymnastics board and blog whether they like Chellsie or not has gotten on board and linked the petition. I was posting the link in comments everywhere and the bloggers picked it up. All the gymnastic stalker loyalists united. We may gag over bent knock knees and toe points and awful hair but we know right from wrong. Doesn’t matter if you like Chellsie or not what she’s done is amazing. They’ve screwed too many people unfairly… This needs to stop for the athletes the coaches and the fans

  21. Exgymgurl Says:

It was a team effort.. Usagym needs to be held accountable now and for all future gymnasts…

  22. Exgymgurl Says:

They didn’t want Chellsie Memmel to be the story…if they had passed her to nationals like they should have she wouldnt be. Nastia is tweeting about a bunch of free jeans she got. Because the story is Chellsie. People are writing whole articles about Chellsie. Non gymnastics human interest pieces… Not about Nastia or Shawn.. About Chellsie….. If They wanted Chellsie to go away you let her go out competing quietly…..and then everyone is drooling over Nastia and Shawn and jordyn and maybe Ali Raisman. But no it’s about Chellsie… Do you think they got a bunch of calls on Steve penny’s vmail about Nastia???? Or Shawn??? They created this….

    • nero Says:

Hmmm I’m not so sure. I don’t think they were worried about her being a story, because Shawn and Nastia would have got the most attention regardless

Look at last year, Chellsie was easily the most impressive story going from classics to nationals but it was still mostly about Shawn. Chellsie didn’t get her own personal fluff at nationals, Shawn did.

It was just easy for them to make an example out of her. If you don’t attend camps you better get the scores that are required to qualify and if you don’t then you’re SOL. Attend camps, don’t get the required scores and we’ll look the other way.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Chellsie is the story right now and she was the story in 2008 at trials anyway. The fans knew.

Can anyone really see Marta changing her mind? Only way I can is if Chellsie gets Pam Anderson to show up at Trials and clap for Chellsie like she got Mohini on the 04 team.

Imagine the story of Chellsie making the team after not making It isn’t happening but it could:)

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Watch: Marta and crew will change their minds at the LAST MINUTE and so I am hoping Chellsie is still practicing. They are probably hoping she is taking time off so she REALLY wouldn’t be ready if they changed their minds.

      • JAS4 Says:

Can you imagine the look on Marta’s face if Chellsie were to show up at Nationals and win Bars lol

  23. terrigymfan Says:

This is a little off-topic with the Chellsie Memmel story at the moment but I am still trying to figure out what the appropriate strategy is for picking an Olympic team under the new team scoring system. Don’t you want at least 3 solid all-arounders on the team? Aren’t you taking a risk if you go with a number less than 3?

And let’s say you reserve two spots for specialists. Wouldn’t you want specialists who are great in one event of course but at least decent in a second event? And also wouldn’t you want specialists that complement each other – in other words if you have one that is good in vault/bars, you would want the other to be good in beam/floor?

In the old days it was so simple – just get the 6 best aa’s on the team.

I know that are a lot of people on this board who know all about this and would love a little help. (Not that Marta is going to apply logic as opposed to politics in selecting the team of course.)

    • JAS4 Says:

I think it should be five AA given the history of injury at the Olympics they need to be able to fill in on any event even if they are only used for one event for example say you had Jordyn,Aly,Kyla on the team but you need a bars and floor specialist you could take Gabby who is technically an AA but just use her for bars unless there is an injury and say take Finnegan also an AA for floor but at the same time of there were two injuries like in 08 there would still be three AA left to go up on all events with the potential for a team medal

      • terrigymfan Says:

Marta has said a lot of positive things about Maroney for her vaulting skills so I bet she takes her. I think its risky having another specialist besides her but I bet that’s what happens. That makes it all the more important to get 3 really strong AA’s. I think Jordyn and Aly clearly and after that probably Kyla but I really like Sarah too. Personally I would go with Jordyn, Aly, Kyla, Sarah, and Mikayla but that is not going to happen because I think Marta is dead set on putting Gabby on the team. My guess is she will put Jordyn, Aly, and Gabby on the team for sure and probably Mikayla too. The last spot, which really needs to be a strong AA’er, is hard to predict.

      • JAS4 Says:

I would love for Maroney to be able to defend her title but I think for a legitimate place on the team (not via Marta politics) she needs to get her floor or bars scoring in at least the low 15s I think with a 3 up 3 count system in order for USA to win gold they need 3 routines that score 15+ on each event on vault and beam Aly, Jordyn, and Kyla can all score above a 15 and on Bars Gabby and Kyla are capable of 15s and Floot Aly and Jordyn are capable of 15s that leaves a need for at least one 15+ scoring person on Bars and Floor if Maroney could at least get her floor scoring that then her higher Amanar score would make up for using Jordyn’s Bars which might score mid to high 14s

      • sanitynmotion Says:

You know Terri I like your team with Sarah – I think Sarah is awesome. (If only Kyla had Sarah’s floor…dang, can you imagine?! Game over.) The issue I think with that team though is bars – you’d have to use Weiber, and more and more it’s looking like you wouldn’t really want to use Weiber there. Not like I don’t love Weiber but her bars are starting to become really inconsistent, especially recently, which is a concern especially considering at least two Russians are doing 7.0 D score bar routines. Mustafina completed one in Euros and it looked amazing, and Komova was close to it as well. Then they have Grishina, who probably is equal to Gabby in bars…so Marta almost needs Gabby because Gabby is the closest thing to what Komova/Mustafina can do. She is edging close to that 7.0 start value. So…that’s why I’m thinking Marta is really pulling for Gabby.
Maroney can fill in on other events too – which is good – but you wouldn’t want that scenario because the most she can pull for bars/beam is high-13/low-14. She exudes confidence but she still doesn’t post the scores needed. I need to look in as to why; maybe her D values aren’t high enough. I know she missed a connection at Classics but that was basically the only major error I saw and her score was like a 13.9 or 13.8 or something like that. Worse than Gabby, who had a more major mistake.
So anyways, back to your team. For bars Marta would have to use Wieber, Kyla, and I guess even Aly or Maroney – Sarah has really low scores too so who knows. Marta would have to absorb a 13/14 score and that’s not affordable. Team USA would get the silver at most, for sure. Even with their vaults because a nice DTY will get a low 15 score, within a point of an amanar – and Russia is capable of at least three nice/solid DTY if they choose not to perform an amanar (which Mustafina/Komova say they intend to perform it). So USA does need that bars specialist – which is why Gabby is almost a shoe in right now since she’s been consistent and has the highest D score and can back-fill on other events if someone else is injured.
So – now back to reality, Marta, and politics. Jordyn and Aly are basically locks. Proven consistency, they’ve gone to camps, Marta loves them, Jordyn is a world champ, yada yada yada. Gabby I’ve already discussed. Maroney sure as hell deserves that spot for vault, but the five member rule is really putting a damper on that for reasons I’ve stated above. I think the fifth spot needs to go to a solid AA’er that has solid bars – and by solid I mean better than Jordyn. Which could be a tall order but (GO SHAWN JOHNSON!) I think someone might be able to do it. Oh, and that person should have a solid floor as well (by solid I mean better than Kyla) because Weiber and Aly are definitely the 1 and 2 spots for floor but I still can’t see Gabby being trusted to perform it in London. If Maroney can show she’s capable of floor then that fourth spot really will be hers. And Shawn Johnson probably won’t make it unless Marta screws over Kyla. Which, let’s face it, could happen.
Blah blah…wow sorry for the rant.

      • terrigymfan Says:

Thanks JAS4 and Sandy, that’s great stuff. I am so glad I found this blog.

It seems you can almost take it to the bank that Jordyn, Aly, and Gabby are going to be on the team. The one thing Mikayla has going for her is that she is so strong in vault that a lot of people think she is almost a cinch to win gold in that event. That would add to the U.S. medal count even if she is not the best choice from a team standpoint. The next month is going to be interesting.
