Read Marta’s excuse about Chellsie and how she blamed it on the committee. I wonder if Nastia gets a vote even though her name is not mentioned
Just when I thought Marta couldn’t get any lower she does something that makes me literally want to smack her fucking ass right back to Romania.
Chellsie Memmel went to Classics and on the advice of Marta chose to only compete beam. She then fall twice. When the meet was over the former World Champions petition to Nationals had been denied.
Fine, I get it. She fell twice but that didn’t stop Marta was allowed Shawn Johnson to compete at Nationals last year after she messed up.
It didn’t stop Marta from naming Nastia Likuin to the Nationals team after she went to camp and did nothing to earn her the position of National team member.
Chellsie Memmel is a former world champion and on the advice of Marta she chose to compete only beam at this years Classics even though she couldn’t stay on the damn event during podium training.
We all know that if Nastia had fallen off beam twice tonight she would have been granted the petition but there is no way in hell Marta Karolyi was going to let Chellsie Memmel pull a Chellsie Memmel and show up at Nationals and Trials better then ever. She couldn’t take the chance.

That article pissed me the F off. She praised gabby the entire time…seriously? The woman is so harsh on gymnasts that faulter but if gabby does it is like her eyes are closed to it all. And she wanted everyone to have at least a 14 on each event if they are not doing AA and nastia got a default 0 on bars but still can compete them later and Chellsie isn’t allowed to try again? UGH. Should I even bother watch trials and London?
Ok I am plugging the phone in now since I officially killed the battery with all my gymnastics ranting.

Um. So riddle me this? Chellsie can’t just have a “by” to nationals even though she made it to Pac Rims (Shawn has a by for this reason). Yeah, she didn’t compete – but she made that team originally. ASac made the world team and also didn’t compete due to injury (same reason) but got a free pass anyways. What. The. Fuck.
Marta was waiting to make Chellsie a scapegoat. You play the political game or you don’t make it. This is her message. She’s telling everyone she doesn’t care if their arms are falling off they will get their asses to boot camp or else nothing.

I think Marta just wanted Memmel out of the picture she couldn’t stand that Memmel didn’t bow down to her and go to torture camp and not to mention she was probably afraid that if Memmel showed up with good solid bars and floor routines she would be a much better fit for the team the her favorite Nastia so she wanted her out of the way she doesn’t care if she screws the team on floor by putting Nastia on the team Marta will do what Marta wants when Marta wants

Yeah so if ASac, Anna, Shawn, and Liukin’s bars gets a free pass, why wouldn’t A FORMER WORLD CHAMPION get one too? Especially one who would have been second behind Maroney last year at nationals but had to scratch her LAST event due to injury? (Meaning: she basically had Raisman and Douglas beat).
I call bullshit. I didn’t see her making the team but she should have at least been given a chance.

Nastia doesn’t get a vote since Terin Humphrey replaced her when she decided to return to competition.
I do think this sucks… I can’t believe someone who sacrificed their body repeatedly for the team and who had surgery a few months ago, showed up (unlike a certain nugget) and was tumbling like that on floor! I wasn’t personally pulling for Chellsie for this team but that’s irrelevant. Like I said, this aspect of team selection is one of the hot topics in Moceanu’s book, one of the reasons I wanted that inside dirt. And she’s already defending Memmel. Hopefully the sh*t hits the fan and they need to deal with it to appease the public before it’s gymnastics season for the every-four-years fans… ie. in 2 weeks!

I don’t care about Dom. She’ll only use her “defense” of Memmel for her own benefit to stay in front of the media.
Hope this opens everyone’s eyes as to the whims of Marta. If Chellsie has to be a scapegoat, may it serve some purpose.

Someone tweeted her about the decision and her response was something like, “Disappointing but I’m not at all surprised” or something. I just got the feeling she might start going public about her feelings if she’s pissed off again. As Sanityinmotion said, yes it would benefit Dom wanting to be in the limelight again (and also potentially her book sales, which address the topic) but at least Dom aside, if she does speak out, it would bring greater attention to Memmel and some of these selection procedures, for those who disagree with aspects of it or the Memmel decision.

While I have honestly been tired of her gymnastics for a long time, I in no way see this as fair. Nastia scratched bars and that still makes her eligible to compete at visas without even showing a skill on that event and Chellsie shows she has skills, makes a mistake and is denied? At least let her try. I think she was just the sacrificial lamb in the process (the first of many, I feel).

How come Valeri can come up with a 7.0 bars routine for his precious daughter but has Bross stagnated at a 6.5 when she had 2 years of leg injuries?

Gymtruthteller, if you started a really well worded online petition here: http://www.petitiononline.com/ and then spread the word (and link) everywhere gym related online, I bet it could get a nice stack of signatures… It probably won’t change anything, but it would be a nice show of force towards USAG/Marta/Penny. Everywhere I go right now people are pissed off about this….why not gather it all in one spot? Just a thought….. I’d sign it!! 🙂

I have been kind of wanting this for a long time for Bross, and am surprised it hasn’t happened before. Didn’t he move the family from Geddert’s gym for her to train at Woga?
Also… if he’s so crazy… I hope he’s not freaking at Becca after she’s worked so hard and then falls in competition. We know her hit/miss ratio but I don’t get why athletes (like Bross and Atler) continue to battle certain skills and mental aspects and keep showing up time after time competing those same skills. Why is she still doing the Patterson? I think everybody (including herself) is scared silly every time she goes for it in competition.

Don’t know if this was already mentioned…but Kennedy baker was third all around. What name did I not hear even ONCE during the stream? Kennedy baker. Whose face did I only see standing on the sidelines and not even near a piece of equiptment? Kennedy baker. The bronze medalist cannot even be showcased and the camera can’t be turned to her for even one routine?

I think this is just the chance Marta’s been waiting for. Chellsie was killing it on floor and doing well on bars in training. BUT Chellsie didn’t play her game- didn’t go to camps and put herself at risk for injury. Marta doesn’t want anyone who’ll stand up to her, so first chance she gets, she hangs a former World Champion on bars AND in AA out to dry. I’m not saying Chellsie would have made the team, or should have. But she should at least have been given the chance to compete at Nationals one last time and go out gracefully.
She’s a classy girl though, and took this with grace.
In conclusion- fuck Marta.

You know, even if nothing works out for Memmel this year, who says she can’t come back EVER? She will retire when she is ready and I think after Saturday she probably isn’t. Behold: America’s Chuso. 🙂
