US Team training hard

Another missed day in the gym for Shawn and Nastia. No invite for Kyla Ross and a media summit for our athletes.

I realize these girls cannot train every day but I remember back in 1996 Steve Nunno closed the doors and said no more media a few months before the Olympics. While that didn’t work out for Miller it worked out for team USA.

2 months before the Olympics.

Any ideas about why Kyla wasn’t invited?

    • gymtruthteller Says:

It seems it’s the princesses and the world team minus alternate Anna

      • Exgymgurl Says:

Since when is Bross a princess? LOL… she could have been invited and declined most of those girls have already gone pro so its a paycheck….

  2. Laura Says:

actually nastia trained this morning.. look at her webstagram. she posted a photo and has tag #sundaytraining

    • gymtruthteller Says:

      In the ?

      • Exgymgurl Says:

Well the media summit was in Dallas not that far from the gym though I’m sure training proved inconvenient yet not impossible… Look at me I’m Nastia I’m superwoman training and doing press just like my super girl line at JC Penney

nastialiukin The calm before the storm… #SundayFunday #Training

    The calm before the storm… #SundayFunday #Training 👌👍👊

I don’t mind them doing this type of stuff, it’s right before the Olympics and this is just part of the game. Nastia and Shawn did this stuff 4 years ago and it didn’t affect them

But that’s just for the girls who are ready. Some of the extra stuff Shawn has been doing these past few weeks is really unnecessary.

But hey, I would kill to do a few interviews and make bank like these girls are doing

  5. JAS4 Says:

I think it’s time for Coaches to get these girls away from the media and back to training this close to the Olympics

    • Jeco Says:

And maybe this is why Kyla is not there??!!
I.e. She is in the gym training…..

Being pampered by the press is a good thing, I think. It hones mannerisms and polishes public personas. It also fuels narcissism, a daredevil’s confidence. And for those who attend, four consecutive days without school and intensive training is a vacation.

Hopefully athletes and their coaches can rest, de-stress and heal.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

Polished and pampered? have you ever been at a press junket? it’s not going to help Gabbys head bob, apparently jordyns agent was not there because that side split shot shows fugly butt that should be airbrushed, Bross’s hair and outfit and posture was horrendous as usual. Vega looks horrible Raisman looked so much better in her recent photo shoot for vogue, and once again Weiber looks as though she’s done her own hair. The only three that look semi good are Maroney Nastia ( who in hotpants and hooker heels looks like a whore) and Shawn, reasonable presentation hair and posture. Even those equestrian girls hair looked awful.. Not like Lindsey Vaughn the skier that gets Botox so her face barely moves and shellacs her hair so it’s perfect at the bottom of the ski run..

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Nastia’s hair looked like she didn’t even wash it.

You’re right. Paparazzi Weekend is not finishing school. But it’s a start!

For athletes, the media summit was about their personality, not their appearance. Once interviews have been woven into something that will attract an audience (to advertisers of course), a new wardrobe and makeover will bring them into the fashion fold.

For sponsors and the press (who aren’t paying for Olympic team surprises), the summit pretty much solidified where they should be directing their resources. As far as WAG is concerned, the media guide spells it out for clueless: Alexandra Raisman, Jordyn Wieber and McKalya Maroney. Shawn Johnson, of course, is too monetizable to forget. And in the gymnastics industry, WOGA is like Fannie Mae – they are too big to fail.

John Geddert said recently that the media summit would be Jordyn’s last trip for awhile.

    • Sandy Says:

More like “last trip until cover girl classics”…good for him. Jordyn’s got a lot of work to do if she wants to beat the Russians/Romanians.

  7. Catherine Says:

Shawn only seemed to go last night (Irish time . . . about 18 hours ago) so she doesn’t seem to be missing as much training as the ones who were there yesterday!!

  8. Biyatch Says:

Based on twitter it looks like Alicia didn’t accept that invitation and is still training in Boston.

  9. nero Says:

How come only some of them have $ signs next to their names, I thought Jordyn and Aly and pretty much everyone else was pro?

    • kate r Says:

from what I understand the $ means they are an olympic medalist.

      • nero Says:

        Oh ok….thanks!!

      • Catherine Says:

Yep it does and the * means Olympian.

From the looks of all the pictures coming through there seems to be a new clique forming and Shawn isn’t part of it.

Also in the pic of a lot of the girls it seems that WOGA didn’t get the memo about wearing white trousers (or skirt etc) or just chose to be different!!
