Camp Rumors and a video

L-R: Anna Li, Jordyn Wieber, McKayla Maroney, Amanda Jetter, Sabrina Vega, Amelia Hundley, Bridget Sloan, Aly Raisman, Brandie Jay, Elizabeth Price, Kyla Ross, Brenna Dowell, Briana Brown, Grace McLaughlin, Alicia Sacramone, Rebecca Bross, Gabby Douglas, Sarah Finnegan, Lexie Priessman, Mykayla Skinner, McKenzie Wofford, Madison Desch and Bailie Key.

as far as i am concerned the team should be named from the girls in this picture. The ones that showed up and did what they were supposed to do.

The fact they only show the good parts is interesting. She will not get credit for that first combination. Love the leo but I reserve the right to change my mind seeing it up close.

(BEWARE: These rumors come from the biggest ass kissing stalker the internet has ever seen which means she is getting this info by stalking the gymnasts and telling them how great they are. Apparently gymnasts like having their ego’s fed)

Nastia pulled out last minute.
No Shawn.
Alicia and Sloan are there as far as I know.

The girls are expected to be ready to show two events.

And bwahanahahhaha Priess is asking to petition to US Classic. Still unknown if approved but her NCAA routines are being reviewed. What a fucking joke.

Sat: media and conditioning and short without rotations
Sun: verify vault and bars
Mon: verify beam floor

Nastia getting special treatment again. At least Shawn was at the last camp and if you want to read into something Ashley Priess is trying to petition to Classics. If I would like to be a conspiracy theorist and boy do I hope this one is right this must mean Nastia is done and Priess whose best events is bars smells the writing o0n the wall for a bars specialist.

PLEASE be right:)

I hate that Shawn isn’t there. I know it is almost a guarantee that she won’t be on the team but I REALLY want her to be on this damn team!

    • gymtruthteller Says:

It doesn’t mean anything really. Jamie Dantzscher skipped camps and made the team. Chellsie Memmel did the same, rocked Nationals and Trials and made the team. If she and Nastia go to Nationals and Trials and do well they will make this team. Nastia even if she doesn’t do well.

      • K Says:

That makes me feel better, thank you! I couldn’t care less about Nastia making the team. I’m with you on that one!

    • Shawn Fan! Says:

anyone see this youtube clip of nastia on beam. She still looks a bit out of shape pretty solid on beam.

      • gymnastblog Says:

She still looks way too out of shape for this time of year. I like the new combination though. As much as I hate her style, she has the best Onodi ever!

  2. nero Says:

How many camps are left? This is the last one before classics right? Will there be one between classics and Nats then one between Nats and trials?

  3. Aerial Says:

I don’t get my grannies in a knot quickly but this update shocked me and I’m worried. This is NOT good. Martha already said come the couple months before Trials, she wants everyone at camp doing full routines. And since Shawn competed last year at Nationals, is in even better shape, I don’t get her exuse. I was defending her against doing ads, commercials, etc. cause it still seemed she was training hard and doing lots of cardio, but it’s getting hard to defend them thinking they can compete once, handle the pressure, hit and be chosen above other girls showing their worth for months and years.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I agree but looking bad in front of Marta does not help Shawn or Nastia. AT least Shawn was at the last camp. This camp they needed to be ready on two events and they must not be.

If these rumors are true this is the second camp Nastia has pulled out of last minute. She is either lying to everyone or to herself.

It does not look good that neither is ready on two events at this point in time.

I am so over this already. The more Nastia does what she wants and still has a chance at this team the more disgusted I get. Shawn should be at camp too but at least she has shown up this year. She isn’t walking into Trials expecting to be named to this team when she hasn’t done a damn thing. Even practice.

  4. MacStabby Says:

Ughhhhhh fush that bish. If Marta was going to stick to her own guidelines, this wouldn’t bother me as much, but what effing excuse does Nastia have for not showing up to THIS camp? She could at least verify beam, even if her shoulder is bothering her. Asshat.

    • Aerial Says:

Exactly. If Alicia is there (and was there previously riding a bike in the corner) these girls have no excuse. Especially if Shawn recently said she wasn’t going to do Classics either. Frig.

  5. MacStabby Says:

“If you present people on this forum with actual evidence that she’s not in shape, including distorted photos and then comments from her dad to the press about her not being in shape come APRIL, then you’re really just slamming the haterade and being really unsupportive and rude as you continue on the quest to infect the world with eating disorders and plague the future of any young female who reads this board.”– apparently, calling Nastia out on being out of shape and unready causes eating disorders. For others.

    • Aerial Says:

This made my head heart. I’ve read it three times. I think I need a beer.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

IG likes to think of themselves as the one board that allows free speech. They think they are better then everyone else when in fact they are the worst board online.l I said it before I will say it again, At least GGMB lets you know what it is. IG pretends it is different then the rest when in fact it is worse when it comes to free speech.

Nastia looks great but she is not in gymnast shape. It’s a fact and there isn’t a single gymnast alive that should ever visit a message board if they can’t handle constructive criticism.

      • MacStabby Says:

Oh absolutely Nastia looks great- for a regular person (I’d kill for her legs); but you’re right, she’s not in gymnastics shape. It kills me that we can’t even say stuff like that on the boards b/c it will get reduced to body-shaming and other crap that it absolutely isn’t.

    • ExGymFreak22 Says:

Let’s look at the whole comment, shall we?:

It doesn’t matter. The explosion will happen anyway. If you present people on this forum with actual evidence that she’s not in shape, including distorted photos and then comments from her dad to the press about her not being in shape come APRIL, then you’re really just slamming the haterade and being really unsupportive and rude as you continue on the quest to infect the world with eating disorders and plague the future of any young female who reads this board. WHAT IF THEY ARE READING NOW ZOMG?!

The bias, the amateurism, and the “reality via consensus” are getting really old around here—no wonder people spend more time at GGMB.

  6. JAS4 Says:

Jordyn and Aly said on twitter that they won’t be at camp til tomorrow so maybe theres still hope Shawn will show up but she has been doing traveling and sponsor stuff a lot lately do I wouldn’t be surprised is she isn’t ready

  7. Exgymgurl Says:

The whole Ashley Priess thing: she pulled out of consideration in 2008 because she wanted to be college healthy. Personally I saw this coming, and she was a favorite of Marta karolyis, let her go to classics, let geralyn stack eaton go too…. Heck if she’s been practicing bar upgrades she’s probably in better shape than Nastia, courtney freaking kupets should go to classics if she has bars that are 6.0+ d score. Hollie Vise too….. Bars is a huge deficit and if I’m any of those names I’d want to know that I tried if I even (Casey Jo Magee) thought I was a longshot…

  8. Aerial Says:

The Priess thing was weird though. She had had trained all year, and was already at Nationals podium training when she pulled out right before the competition. I have always wondered about that timing and what hit the fan in that crazy moment – especially because she was not injured!! Why would she put herself through rigorous elite training all year to stop for college contention right before saluting the judges? Weird.

And… TOTAL sidebar… but Shawn Johnson made Perez Hilton today… the Bounty shiz with her mom.

  9. Exgymgurl Says:

I just read interviews with priess who two days ago decided to do a fifth year for Alabama and she’s saying she hasn’t been this healthy or felt this good since she was 16…I think there was a nagging injury / pain management issue that has perhaps healed. Which was a year before trials for 2008. It is odd but if I’m her and doing a masters in sports marketing, I’m going for the Olympics. Mary Lee Tracy works wonders on bars I wonder if she’d take Ashley back though I remember an interview at the time where she expressed shock and dismay at Priess’s decision. I think her heart is in it now and it’s a last gasp, but who knows. I’d take her over annoying Anna li…. That’s the question though who will coach her as an elite?

    • Aerial Says:

Someone said they saw her flying back to Cincinnati… though I guess she could go elsewhere from there.
The whole thing was so weird and I wish someone would spill haha.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

Cincinnati is not a HUB for the airlines…. Especially not from Tuscaloosa

      • Aerial Says:

I’m just saying I’m sure she wanted or needed to go back home following the end of her college term, as most of the girls already have anyhow, and especially if she’s gotta arrange or prepare for elite training. She is very close with her family and they often take lavish vacations, so that could be another explanation but now I’m starting to wonder about this elite idea too.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I seem to remember a rumor back in 08 that Priess was fed up with MLT and quit to spite her but I don’t remember where I read that.

      • Aerial Says:

That was all over GGMB at the time and that’s totes why I’ve always wanted the dirt since then! Haha.

      • Aerial Says:

Though that type of spiting would be pretty sensational timing especially considering I think her family was already there with her.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

I remember that as well, that she and MLT weren’t getting along but if Macko is going to classics….?????I know Mackos made more appearances with the elites in recent years…. But how many NCAA gymnasts had better bars than she did in event finals?

I also remember a rumor that Priess had spoken to Terin Humphrey and Sarah Patterson before making the decision….

  10. Exgymgurl Says:

Shawn knows she’s not going back to the Olympics. Cheryl Slade is keeping the story on her to get endorsements but Shawn doesn’t make sense on this team. Sorry Nastia doesn’t either but they both successfully kept their names out there for endorsements…

    • gymtruthteller Says:

If she got her shit together she would fit this team. She would need her Amanar, her usual clean bars and her beam and floor. She would need to be the second best AA gymnast but I don’t see that happening,

      • JAS4 Says:

I would love to see her get it together and make the team but it seems as if she has lost serious intrest in making the team or either she hasn’t got I’ve the whole knee thing or something

      • LOSO Says:

I respectfully disagree; her amanar was barely creditable in 08 and would run major risk of being downgraded today with all the other fully rotated amanars the judges have to compare it to. She’s certainly not going to gain any advantage on bars. Her beam could be good, but not enough to make up for a VT/UB deficit, and most of the top AAers have good beams these days, plus she’d get killed on the leaps. And even if she got back in form on floor, it wouldn’t be enough to overcome the deficits she’d face on the other events.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I agree about the Amanar but her bars are much cleaner then every single gymnast competing today. If she could get the 6.3- 6.5 Kyla will have she will score as well as she did. Marta told her to work on floor so there must be a reason she did that.

I agree about the leaps too but I have to believe Chow would be smarter this time around and set her routine up to reflect her ability to tumble over stupid leaps. Then again he wasn’t smart enough last time to do this.

      • JAS4 Says:

I think if she had a solid DTY and decent beam and if Chow would make sure she has excellent floor and bars she would have a decent shot especially and with likely four Amanars probably on the team if she had a really good DTY in case of injury I think she would be good

      • Exgymgurl Says:

When was the last time Shawn had an amanar? Interesting question if Shawn or nastia of 2008 even make this team. as for the question about McKayla Maroney @ gym max, the last year she was there Kyla won Jrs and she placed 29th… The next year at Mattie’s gym she placed 3rd… And kyla won again….Pretty sure Kyla was getting more love… Pretty sure mckayla thinks she’s better than everyone else and has to be the center of attention not the best dancer….

      • gymtruthteller Says:

She is starting to give off that impression of the cocky little shit. Honestly, cocky doesn’t annoy me as long as she gets along with her fellow gymnasts. When she turns into prima donna Nastia and starts treating people that beat her in the AA like shit then I hope she gets left home.

      • Sandy Says:

Shawn’s not showing up to camp because if she went and didn’t “kill it” it’d be all over for her. She actually has a better chance continuing to plug away at it at home and then just show up at competition with the big “surprise!” face. Hah. She’s been taking notes from Memmel. She’s not an idiot. At this point in her career, camp does nothing for her but give her another potential injury. Shawn’s been to numerous camps in her life (and has gone since the comeback, so I’ll give her credit for that…Nastia should have gone last time she had the chance, even with watered-down routines) and she knows what it will take to get on this team. She can’t afford risking injury at this point. Look what happened at the camp before worlds. Marta would only have more excuses not to place her on the team.

Let’s face it…Shawn’s decision is a smart one. Memmel did the same thing in ’08 and look what happened. She took a spot on the Olympic team when everyone else had been factoring her out. Let’s not forget when Memmel showed up last year “surprise!” – and would have beat Aly AND Makayla at nationals if it weren’t for her injury on bars. AND she had a single twisting vault or some shit like that.

Don’t count SJ – or Memmel, for that matter – out quite yet. I still have yet to be impressed by Makayla (other than vault) and even Aly (other than floor).

  11. suz Says:

Are the girls even at camp yet? According to Raismans twitter she hasn’t even packed yet. Why would Alicia be there?

    • Shawn Fan! Says:

agreed – according to their twitters they were just leaving/packing for camp today. Methinks that bit of camp gossip is premature.

  12. Leon Says:

Ross fan here! “as for the question about McKayla Maroney @ gym max, the last year she was there Kyla won Jrs and she placed 29th… The next year at Mattie’s gym she placed 3rd… And kyla won again….Pretty sure Kyla was getting more love… Pretty sure mckayla thinks she’s better than everyone else and has to be the center of attention not the best dancer….” McKayla has that winner vibe for sure! To correct… McKayla Maroney moved from Gym-Max to AOGC sometime in May 2010… Visas were at August 2010… so its less than 3 months at AOGC before competing Visas is what I hear. also says the same thing.

  13. Exgymgurl Says:

Probably reporting day for people that went to jesolo is different…..term is not over until end of may so Priess has no real reason to go home

  14. nina Says:

can anybody please tell me what GGMB is , i feel stupid for not knowing 🙂

  15. Exgymgurl Says:

Sam Shapiro should be training some serious bars too ….. IMHO

  16. Biyatch Says:

You know there is such an obsession with finding the bars specialist, which yes is necessary, but the US also seems to need to find a reliable lead off floor worker to compliment Jordyn and Aly. McKayla who was the lead off at worlds was fine but she has a propensity to fall on her ass. Kyla’s floor seems to leave something to be desired both from the tumbling and dance aspects. And Gabby, is well, Gabby. Bars are important but the US still needs a good tumbler.

  17. suz Says:

That information doesn’t seem reliable since Sloan just tweeted about being at the airport…so she obviously wasn’t there yet. Weird.

  18. nero Says:

USA gymnastics facebook says this is the last camp before the Olympic team is named.

Hmmmm not a very smart idea to miss the very last camp. Don’t these girls have to verify their routines?

Whatever….as long as my 4 of Wieber, Maroney, Rasiman and Bross make it with the last spot going to Ross, Douglas or Vega.

  19. Aerial Says:

As expected, Alicia and Bridget are there, and I think the initial message was meant to imply “they will be there”, and no Shawn or Nastia.
There is an updated pic of the girls in lineup… across the entire mat. Interesting there are some jrs. in this same camp if it’s the last one! What happened to the separate camps of the past, especially at critical times? Hmmn.
Can’t believe SJ and NL aren’t there. Like come on, there should NOT have been an option to continue to stay home and train and skip it, if it’s the last one. They are both aware of the system and if others can go and do their cardio there instead of training if injured, those two should be there. I’m done with the special strokes for special folks when it’s the final camp, Martha expected to see everyone there doing full routines, and Shawn (and prob Nastia) aren’t even doing Classics.
Why am I allowing myself to get so worked up over this? Sheesh. Thank god I’m about to go out for drinks, clearly I need one. Maybe it’s b/c I actually wanted SJ to make this team and am still stupidly hoping she has a chance. Frig.

  20. Aerial Says:

PS. F’ng love that Wofford is still elite, still confident, and still “who cares?” after being burned at camp before and her gym change, and obviously seeing her former coach all the time. I hope, hope, hope she continues like this and can be an international star after this summer!!! Love her.

  21. nero Says:

As much as I desperately would love for Memmel to make the team it’s not going to happen. So if I had to choose one 08’er to make the team it would be Bridget. (Alicia is close though)

That girl is literally, and figuratively, the red headed step child of USA gymnastics. No one ever gives her any credit.

She was the lead off for the team in every event in prelims at the Olympics except for bars. She was the very first USA girl to go in TF, a girl who had like 5 seconds of international experience before that.

Then she became world champ the next year…..but that doesn’t really count because it was the year after the Olympics.

She loses basically 2 years to injury and instead of taking a break and then doing college gym she decides to continue training elite.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

It would not surprise me a bit if Bridget showed up at Nationals and finished third.

      • Sandy Says:

Totally true. People seem to forget that Memmel would have placed second behind Jordyn and IN FRONT OF Aly and Maroney had it not been for that final UB event where she injured herself and had to scratch.

    • Aerial Says:

Your dreams may come true, Nero! I’ve heard Bridget is in good shape. And she’s definitely proven she can sashay in there under the wire without a lot of fanfare along the way.

In terms of Macko, doesn’t she have ten broken ankles heavily taped, and Bridgey… I don’t know. It doesn’t make sense why if juniors can make it, she wouldn’t be there, and it’s not as major a trip for her now that she’s at Texas Dreams. After a major gym change and during a critical season, I’m surprised, although I never expected anything from her this year anyhow. But she clearly has/had goals.

      • nero Says:

I’m basically all in on a team of ‘newbies’…..I hope she has a good showing at the next few comps just to show everyone how important she was/is to team USA.

I really like Macko, I think she could have made a strong case for herself if she would have deferred this year. She has strong bars and could have upgraded plus she is solid and useable in an emergency situation everywhere else.

  22. JAS4 Says:

I would love to see more unique and different skills like some of these done in gymnastics more often

  23. KMA Says:

Isn’t it more important how you perform in a meet than if you show up at a camp?

Remember, Shawn blogged about what it was like to go to camp. Maybe that not so well received by some people. Maybe training somewhere else leaves you more quality time and less training time lost due to traveling…….There is a reason Memmel doesn’t go to camps. I think they are old enough and mature enough to know what they need to work on.

    • nero Says:

If Nastia shows up at nats and trials with an 8.0 bar routine and hits she’s on the team.

If Shawn shows up with the best beam routine and a floor routine with four G tumbling passes, she’s on the team.

That’s not going to happen, they are bubble girls. I don’t think not going to camp is the nail in the coffin it’s just frowned upon. Chellsie made it because she kicked ass at nats and trials and proved she was invaluable to the team.

If Martha had to choose between Aly and Shawn, if she looked at them and crunched the numbers and they bring the exact same thing to the table who do you think she would pick? The girl that ‘played the game’ or the one who didn’t?

      • doughnut sundae Says:

Assuming athletic parity, whom would Marta choose?

This question assumes the selection committee has more options than are probably available to them. Business and political interests should have already made two non-negotiable decisions: a WOGAette and America’s darling are going to London.

But the answer seems simple enough – the biggest celebrity will get the nod. (NOTE: Even if there was an athletic disparity, the answer would still be the same.)

USAG’s WAG membership has blossomed since the last Olympics, from Level 2 (up 51%) through Elite (up 82%). Celebrity athletes and mainstream sponsorship have undoubtedly played a huge role. And they are likely to continue because it is profitable to do so.

At this stage, Marta and the selection committee should be staffing the C-Team while talking about A- and B-Team tactics. I doubt Olympic medalists will be the most gifted athletes, but rather have coaches with the best strategy.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Interesting stats about the gym attendance going up. IMO Marta will need to create some more stars in order to promote the sport for 4 more years IF she plans on sticking around.

      • doughnut sundae Says:

CORRECTION: The trend is the same, just a slight math error on my part… OOPS. 😦

        USAG WAG Membership 2009 – 2012

        Prep Op (+190.153%)

        Level 2 (+95.022%)

        Level 3 (+104.613%)

        Level 4 (+0.055%)

        Level 5 (+1.364%)

        Level 6 (-1.522%)

        Level 7 (+4.670%)

        Level 8 (+8.711%)

        Level 9 (+14.470%)

        Level 10 (+34.086%)

        Elite (+21.519%)

      • suz Says:

Or the one that will bring in more money and attention to USAG? Yea.. probably that one.

      • Sandy Says:

That would be Shawn. She doesn’t need to play Marta’s game anymore. Nastia never had to, clearly. I think both are smart to skip, honestly – especially if they’re not where they need to be. They don’t want any bad press at this point.

ASac needs to continue to play the game because she’s clearly not even near her ’08 standards and needs to continue to pimp her “I’m the team mom” artificial role to make this team – or to have any chance at all. I think even she knows that the only way she’s going to London is if there are at least two major injuries (and those injuries belong to other vaulters).

  24. JAS4 Says:

GTT if this was my dinner I’d skip camp too lol

    • gymtruthteller Says:

lol I saw that. Gerbil food

    • doughnut sundae Says:

That looks like haggis, neeps and tatties – savory British cuisine! 😉

Alicia probably doesn’t have the stomach (or the nose) to clean her plate. And who could blame her?

  25. Aerial Says:!/photo.php?fbid=10150589017142168&set=a.10150589015917168.335246.27029627167&type=3&theater

I heard Sloan was training well on all apparatus so I’m assuming those are just really bad pants she’s wearing.
Have fun this weekend coachless again Shawn and Nastia… I know both are doing lots of cardio so I guess they don’t need a spotter for that. I too hope Shawn will show up and rock the competitions if she forgoes the camps but this is one cut-throat battle, she’s nervous and out of competition-mode… I hope her plans works out for her.

  26. Exgymgurl Says:

Why verify flexibility? What a big freaking unfocused waste of time unless they are going to use those records to somehow eliminate people…. We know Alicia is not flexible and can’t do the splits

    • JAS4 Says:

If they are elite gymnast on the national team then why do they need to verify flexibility clearly they are flexible enough or they wouldn’t be there in the first place

      • Jen Says:

It’s probably not about that (though it can be used as a way to differentiate girls if they’re desperate for one). The first day of camp is supposed to be “light” compared to the verification days. Probably just easing them into “Camp World”

      • Exgymgurl Says:

Exactly… Pilates would be a better use of time… Yoga would be a better use of time…. Seeing how high they can kick their legs or do a scale? Ridiculous!!!! How many HOPES and TOPS camps have these kids been to? Are we auditioning for Cirque de Soleil?

  27. JAS4 Says:

Apparently Macko is still in FL

    • Aerial Says:

I’m sure those shoes are assisting in her recovery! Lol.

      • JAS4 Says:

Yeah I’m sure really high heels are good for bad ankles lol maybe her ankles are better and the real reason she was mostly used for bars was just to protect them so she can be in shape for nationals

    • Aerial Says:

Too bad they didn’t inform their one friend about the white shorts memo.

      • JAS4 Says:

I wonder if Marissa King to the right of Macko in that picture is planning on trying to go to the Olympics for Great Britain again this summer

      • Exgymgurl Says:

So true… Thats called being the girl that is not in on the real dress code or kristin cavalleri season 1 laguna beach wearing the odd color at the black and white party LOL totes hilarious…. Heels are the perfect cure for year old broken ankles love it coach Zmeskal!!!

  28. Dee Says:

If Marta wanted them to have 2 routines this camp, and Nastia has been at NO camps, then I think that = she is just bluffing. If she makes this team and everyone has seen how she didnt have to play by the rules, then good luck making this system work for 2012.

    • Sandy Says:

If Nastia makes the team and Bross doesn’t, there will be a fire storm from Mr. Bross. At least that’s the rumor, right? Certain people will not go down quietly…

      • gymtruthteller Says:

The rumor is Mr Bross is a stage dad. No rumor he will go but if I was him and Valeri ignored my daughter which seems like it might be the case I would say something.

  29. MacStabby Says:

USA Gymnastics actually posted something about Nastia, Shawn, and Chellsie not being at camp. Didn’t say what the consequences, if any, were going to be though. So I’m not sure if they’re actually still in the running or not.

    • nero Says:

I think it’s really interesting that they mentioned all three were “Unable to fulfill camp expectations” so it’s not like they’re staying home to upgrade, they can’t do what is expected of them.

The writing is on the wall, if they can’t even verify 2 events 2 months before the Olympics I see little hope

Too bad Chellsie got hurt, again, ugh you know she would have kicked ass and taken names at nationals and trials.

      • MacStabby Says:

I know; it just kills me! She killed at Classics last year when noone thought should could though, so maybe there’s still hope.
She’s one of my faves since 2003, and a hometown girl to boot. I’d go over to M&M to see if I could peek at her training, but I’m afraid it’d be all Swimfan and weird if I did.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        Go swim fan for

    • Aerial Says:

WTF? Shawn competed at Pan Ams and continues to look better and better in pics, and she said her knee is far better. She competed at Nationals last year. WTF is up with her routines?

Sorry that I don’t buy the “some girls sh*t doesn’t stick and they can stay home and train because they know how far along they are and can do better alone”. Seems to me Shawn was doing far better attending camps, in competition mode, being where her coach is, and not having her reputation continue to sink within the gym community and those who have power to affect selection.

My expectations for Asac and Memmel are less since they were both pretty impaired as of a few months ago. But why was Alicia at camp then? She can’t be doing 2 Olympic-ready routines yet. I heard she just started vaulting again! If Alicia can be there, so can Shawn and Nastia.

    • Sandy Says:

      LOL @ Swimfan reference…

Memmel got hurt again??? When? This sucks. I really am still rooting for Shawn though. Sorry. I have to. But it’s not a good feeling I have…I’m just hoping she’s not going because she has major surprises under her sleeve.

      • JAS4 Says:

Yeah I also really hope Shawn has something up
her sleeve Memmel too for that matter I just hope they are staying away from camp and being secretive to surprise everyone

  30. nero Says:

So if to attend camp they *had* to be able to verify 2 events does that mean Alicia has vault and beam back even if they are really watered down? If so that is very impressive

we need camp news now, I’m going crazy. Someone needs to be a camp mole

    • Sandy Says:

I don’t understand the GGMB board…I can’t get access because I’m not “special” or a former judge or anything…does anyone on this blog have access?? Any camp news there? What’s the point of a gossip board if outsiders can’t get any information???

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I have access. No news yet. They are keeping quiet if they know something but Marta is probably very strict with this camp

      • gymtruthteller Says:

The point is Abomb gets to act like he is special. We had someone post here last year that Abomb found out she was an insider and sent her threatning PM’s demanding information.

      • JAS4 Says:

That’s just creepy I am huge gymnastics fan but threatening people for info is just plain crazy no matter how much you like a sport

      • MacStabby Says:

I don’t know who Abomb is but she/he sounds fucking crazy.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

He is. The ego has gone to his head.

      • doughnut sundae Says:

Wait a minute. So Abomb went to YOUR blog and threatened a girl who was posting comments there?! Wow…

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Abomb threatened her in a PM AT GGMB not here. She came here and told me about it.

      • Sandy Says:

Is Abomb really his name? I mean – does he get held up at airports at all? (hahaha…lame joke).

      • doughnut sundae Says:

  31. Aerial Says:

They’re having an internal discussion and not posting anything on the board, and enjoying tormenting all the people posting in the camp thread wondering about news by making fun of them.

  32. JAS4 Says:

    Pictures from camp

Wonder if this is her thoughts on camp?

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I haven’t been to Aunt Joyce’s in months. I forgot it existed. Those pictures are cute. The US is now trying to pretend it trains these girls in dance. Sure they

      • Sandy Says:

This is fun and all but what’s REALLY going on. That’s what I want to know. Who has upgrades? Who’s up to par? Does ASac do a rudi yet?

I guess we all will find out at Classics/Nationals because it seems everyone is being quiet now.

SJ posing on the beam with her medal…sigh. I hope she’s being smart about this (missing camp).

      • doughnut sundae Says:

You’d think that, at a precipice in their career, at the final meeting before they march inexorably toward life’s tipping point, the tension at the Ranch would be tangible. But the mood there seems almost frivolous, like a summer camp.

Maybe Marta had them do wacky, non-competitive tasks (like stretching and ballet) to keep things lighthearted and low impact. With no winners or losers, the shared experience might encourage camaraderie instead of clicks – just a thought.

      • doughnut sundae Says:

        I meant ‘cliques’…

  33. JAS4 Says:

Yeah I saw someone on twitter say something about it so I figured I would check it out lol and maybe they thought it would intimidate Russia since they now train ballet (que dramatic music) lol

    • doughnut sundae Says:

A lot of Russian rhythmics made the pilgrimage to the Ranch last year, so did one of Bolshoi’s male dance instructors. That they are doing ballet isn’t scary. What’s scary is who they are taking notes from.

  34. JAS4 Says:

Yeah I really want to know whats going on!

  35. JAS4 Says:

Nothing about her returning to elite but who knows lol

  36. JAS4 Says:

Video-More on Jen Hansen the 38 year old trying to make the Olympics

    • Dee Says:

Gymnastike has a article up about Nastia, Shawn and Chellsie…apparently it doesn’t mean they are out of the game, they just couldn’t meet expectations.

I can understand Chellsie bc she was hurt, but wtf about the other two.Seriously, This is getting soooooo old.

    • Sandy Says:

She picked the WRONG quad to try and do that…but props to her.

      • Aerial Says:

LOL. So true. I admire the spirit, level of sport she’s capable of, and the fitness for her age… crazy… but the types of comments she’s making are the sentiments we need to hear from Shawn! Believe it to achieve it!
If Hansen makes it to the big meets, I bet she’ll get huge and well-deserved love from the crowd. Would be neat to see,

  37. JAS4 Says:

    Russian team for Europeans

  38. JAS4 Says:

Wonder when that will be on the today show

  39. JAS4 Says:

The Americans released camp photos so I guess the Russians figured they would too lol

  40. Dee Says:

NBC interview about Nastia and the “shoulder injury”. Here she says it “bothers her a little bit”, while other articles have said it is an “injury”. Who knows what that means.

And apparently Memmel had another surgery in February, so I guess it makes sense why she isnt ready.

  41. Aerial Says:

Today Shawn starts recording the audio book of her novel. That is one major time-sucking endeavor. I think she’s purposely choosing to tweet about anything but training these days – making it seem like there’s little training happening – but probably another move to keep the cards close to her chest.

    • Sandy Says:

Seriously, this shit is bothering the crap out of me. I am not a patient person but I guess I have to wait until the end of May to see what exactly Ms. Johnson has in those damn cards of hers. I’m hoping some good stuff. I don’t think she can afford to show up and do watered down routines and still keep her glowing reputation with her fans and the media. She did watered-down routines last year, and that made sense (the knee, the beginning of a comeback, the beginning of her being back on the competitive stage again) – so she best be doing some impressive stuff this time around! It’s likely going to be her last competitions as an elite gymnast, so…I just hope she doesn’t disappoint. If she goes out there, throws some big moves and attacks it, and still doesn’t make the team, I’ll still think she rocks (and I’ll likely think she got screwed). If she goes out there and does “meh” routines I’ll have a fit.

But here’s the thing: we know she’s capable of a DTY. She’s capable of a decent bar routine (at least a 6.0 start value). We’ve seen those at the Pan Ams and she hasn’t been reinjured since (at least not that we know of) and so I’m thinking she missed camp for a different reason other than she couldn’t qualify two routines. She could have easily qualified two routines if ASac could (I still wonder about that one myself since she wasn’t able to even run until February)…so she MUST be trumping some cards!

      • Dee Says:

Even IF ASac didnt have 2 routines to show, she still went. She very well might have been able to verify 2 events, just watered down.

I understand striking while the iron is hot when it comes to endorsements…but let’s get real…either you want to be famous or you want to be a 2 time Olympian. I dont see how these girls thought trying to be both would get them where they are hoping to be…London. Seems like every other day they are doing something new, whether it is writing a book or being in a paper towel commercial or being on a game show. I just dont see how they think it’s going to work.

    • doughnut sundae Says:

Shh! Quiet, everyone! Shawn is speaking Chinese.

No, she’s not crazy or anything. She is doing the Chinese voiceover for her new book. Like Becca and Jordyn, there is no way she could be raised by gym parents and remain unilingual, right? (John Geddert speaks ‘Bravado’ in case you’re wondering.) lol

Seriously, most apps and search engines can read text aloud. So… what’s the point? As far as I am concerned, this whole voice acting bit is a ruse.

  42. nero Says:

Sarah Finnegan apparently placed 2nd at camp…..hmmmmm very interesting. Wasn’t she rumored to be training an amanar?

    • Sandy Says:

Oooh do you have more rumors you can share? We need a camp mole, seriously.

      • nero Says:

Ugh I wish I was on ‘the inside’ but I saw it on twitter and on USAG facebook.

Geddert said on his twitter that Jordyn’s upgrades are still a question mark. Bars dismount? Beam connections? Double layout on floor?????

      • JAS4 Says:

As much as I would like to see Shawn or even Memmel make the team I could easily see Jordyn,Aly,Kyla,Finnegan and then either Gabby or Maroney on the team

    • Aerial Says:

I’m not sure if that’s 2nd AA. Could be! But they give placings for other tests to – like strength, flexibility, etc. Wouldn’t put it past Finnegan’s coaches to declare something generally that’s would be interpreted incorrectly.
We just need someone to leak some concrete deets. Do they have to sign confidentiality waivers? Don’t they know that impairs our speculation?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Finnegan is just another Mckayla IMO. What I mean someone that will get ridiculous scores inside the US then mccoool it outside the US. AKA Be scored correctly for missed connections etc….

Mckayla outscores Aly inside the US but doesn’t even come close outside the US.

Finnegan’s floor is beautiful but she isn’t getting credit for most of that beam routine. She hits none of those connections.

        We will see.

      • Aerial Says:

They fill the same general role and are the “ballerinas” as I say… but apparently Finnegan’s bars are lower SV than Maroney’s?
I think Aly is a done deal on this team. She finishes well overseas and hits for years now. I know some people like to picture her not making the team because she is fugly to watch but it hasn’t hurt her thus far, and I for one do not see her not being selected for no reason over the others that are suggested.

      • JAS4 Says:

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I have decided that I hate twitter.:)

      • JAS4 Says:

Lol there is some new fluff piece out about her highness but none of the links on twitter work maybe people were posting not nice things so of course they had to use their super censorship powers to shut it down

      • Sandy Says:

I agree about Aly but I have a bad feeling someone will get injured.

  43. Daniel Bertolina Says:

What about Elizabeth Price. She has a nice amanar. She can do a double double tucked and a double layout on floor. Plus she’s useable on beam and bars. Apparenty she’s planning on upgrading bars beam and floor.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

It scares me to say this but I like her floor. I don’t see Marta taking a chance on her though.

      • JAS4 Says:

There could be some surprises especially of there are injuries but I think the top five will be from Jordyn,Kyla,Aly,Gabby,Maroney,Finnegan,ASac,Shawn,Nastia,Memmel,Sloan,Bross
I would be surprised to see anyone outside of that group be on the team but you never know there could be some upsets like if one of the Caquatto sisters showed up with a crazy difficult bars and good everything else but I wouldn’t be surprised if their is at least one Marta favorite on the team

  44. JAS4 Says:

Kyla video interview- apparently she has bars upgrades and admits her floor was indeed watered down for Pacific Rims and but that she is going to add stuff back

  45. doughnut sundae Says:

Chellsie, Nastia and Shawn may have missed the ‘last’ training camp and may have no intention of going to Classics either, but in order to qualify for Nationals (without playing a card of some sort) they will probably be Ranch this Saturday… with the n00bs!

“The American Classic will be held at the Ranch on May 5th at 10:30 AM. It’s a super tiny version of the US Classics which serves as a qualifier to the US National Championships. A National Qualifier will be held today and tomorrow during which new elites may qualify to this meet.” – Bekah’s ‘Get A Grip Gymblog’

    • Sandy Says:

I think I read on Couch gymnast blog the “list” of the people going and none of them were familiar except Casey Joe Mcgee…I don’t think Chellsie, Nastia, or Shawn will be there. I’m thinking they’re not ready to show their routines and they want to “surprise” people at Nationals. I’m not sure how they’ll get to Nationals without going to camps/Classic…but I don’t know the inner ways of this sport. I’m sure they can petition and they’ll get to Nationals that way.

      • Dee Says:

If you petition…dont’ you have to have something to show? Priess was petitioning and they are reviewing her NCAA routines (LOL)…and when I have heard of petitions in the past, it has always been based on the performances in the past as to whether or not it goes through.

That being said, Shawn and Chellsie both have performances from the past year that could be reviewed. Nastia, not so much. Dont know if there is a Free Olympic Champion Pass, but I doubt it. If they are not at the ranch this Saturday, and have nothing to be reviewed as far as a petition goes, then I have no idea how these girls will get to Nationals.

Does anyone know the rules of petition?

      • Sandy Says:

Obviously I have no clue but wasn’t Shannon Miller allowed to compete at Olympic Trials in 2000 from petitioning? I think she also petitioned in 1996 because she had been injured. Oooh maybe Nastia is making up her shoulder injury. Hrm.

      • doughnut sundae Says:

Why petition? It’s SO much easier to just show up! The newest national team members are competing right now to qualify for U.S. Classics at the end of the month or the American Classic this Saturday, if they are up to it. I doubt many newbies will stick around – competing in a doubleheader is just begging for trouble. This will leave a handful of former Olympians to a private screening with American Cup judging.

They can fly in on Friday and do the Today Show interviews, have a workout on Saturday, and be back at home by Sunday with time to spare for book deals and whatnot. But poor Nastia! She’ll have to drive for – what – a whole hour to get to the Ranch?! She’s going to be SO tired! How can anyone ask her to perform with car-lag? Marta, give your daughter a break!

      • JAS4 Says:

Yeah even if they don’t want to show all their routines yet at least do two events even if they water them down a little at classics just do enough to qualify them to nationals

I also saw this on twitter apparently Gabby fell on bars and Bross won bars

      • nero Says:

        BROSS WON BARS!!! Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really really really want her to make it

      • gymtruthteller Says:

all that means is she stayed on and that Marta still likes her.

      • Sandy Says:

It’ll count more at the meets coming up than at camp. I think Gabby has more potential than Bross to bring in a large bars set. I wonder if Gabby was performing her 7.0 D value routine. We all know Bross doesn’t have that kind of set. Both are not consistent at the end of the day, so who knows which would do better in London. Personally I would rather see Ross, Aly, Weiber, and even Maroney on that team than Bross. I can’t stand Bross’ ugly gymnastics.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Bross might have two UB medals but she rarely scores over 15 on bars at Worlds. I think she did once.

If Gabby hits bars at Nationals and Trials and we are taking a girl for one event I think Gabby should get it…. Maybe.

      • nero Says:

That’s the beauty of it Sandy you can have your team of Ross, Raisman, Wieber, Maroney annnnnnd BROSS

I don’t want Gabby to fall at nats trials but I’m really hoping Bross comes out and kicks major ass. All of these girls ‘deserve’ to make the team so I’m going to be sad for the ones that don’t make it.

      • Sandy Says:

You’re gonna hate me Nero…I’d rather have SJ over Bross. Sorry, I’m a huge SJ fan. I’d even rather have Finnegan – if only Bross had some grace in her arms or something. I mean, I totally see how she’s such a hard worker and all, but I just am not a fan of her gymnastics. She is like a robot.

However, if she kills it in nationals and Trials, I won’t fault her for that. At the end of the day I just hope Marta chooses the top five that “deserve” to be there and will do well overall in London.

      • nero Says:

        I don’t hate you 🙂
        SJ on this team *shudders*

I can see Bross’ faults, I’m not blind but I still love her. She won me over after I watched some of her interviews. I just feel like she’s had the weight of soooo much on her over the past few years and it let it get to her.

Plus has she ever had a full injury free season?

      • Sandy Says:

I don’t know – was she injured in 2009? I know she was in 2010 and 2011. That’s why it’s also risky to put her on a team this small for London – if she has a Memmel moment right before competition that could leave USA in a bad spot. I think Bross over trains, or something. She always looks so wiped out and tired. She’s only what, 18? And sometimes she looks twice her age just out of fatigue.

      • Lauren H Says:

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought if a gymnast was on the national team they automatically qualified to Nationals the following year, therefore not needing to qualify. Chelsie, Shawn & Nastia are ALL on the National team already. Chelsie and Shawn made the team at last year’s Nationals, but how Nastia was named is beyond me. See the following link:

  46. nero Says:

Casey Jo for Olympic Alternate!!! Love her

  47. Exgymgurl Says:

It would be a 6-7 hr drive to the ranch from Dallas / Plano… So not a quick trip Texas is a big state people

    • gymtruthteller Says:

She’s a witch. She can make her nose twitch and she will be there in a second.

      • Sandy Says:

OMG touche. THAT’S how she won the Olympics!

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I remember back in 08 when Michelle Kwan lost to that little terror Lipinski. Someone did an interview and said if a Russian isn’t in the mix the Russian judge will vote for which ever American sends him a bottle of Vodka. THAT is how Nastia

    • Sandy Says:

That was like the worst moment, ever. I was SO SAD when terror beat Michelle.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I still feel sick inside especially since Terror Lipinski couldn’t get a 5.9 for presentation if she bought it.

    • doughnut sundae Says:

You’re right. Six or seven hours IS a long time… when you are on the back of a horse, braving the three miles that separate WOGA farm from Karolyi’s ranch.

Nastia’s commute is in caricature (obviously), so take it as seriously as you would her comeback. 😉

  48. nina Says:

i saw an interview where alicia sacramone said that if you have already been to the Olympics you automatically qualify to nationals 🙂

  49. Cristan Says:

Not sure if anyone else has posted this yet? It’s Asac’s vault from camp. Looks pretty good considering.

  50. JAS4 Says:

I’m guessing this means Marissa King will be attempting to make the GB Olympic team

  51. K Says:

Sorry if someone posted this already but here is an interview with Shawn Johnson explaining why she wasn’t at camp.

Apparently, Chow and Martha thought it would be best if Shawn skipped camp and trained at home.

For some reason, I’m getting a “I have a few tricks up my sleeve” vibe from her!

    • Sandy Says:

Good because she’s awesome. Funny how it was just her and Jordyn on the Today show…

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I wonder if she afforded Nastia the same free pass. Getting a little sick of the free pass thing.
