Interview with Russia’s head coach

Jas came up with this article in the comment’s section so I thought it was about time we discuss some other Countries and what their Olympic teams might look like.

Mustafina, Komova and Grishina are most likely their “locks” which means their bars are set. Heck even their floor and beam may be set if these 3 gymnasts are “locks” That means they need some big time vaults to fill out this Olympic team.

I also think they might need a third beam worker since Grishina is always falling on something. When she hits she looks very good. Anna Dementyeva scores well on beam when she hits. I am seeing a pattern here.

Then lets discuss the interview. Gotta “love” the insults thrown at the USA during this interview but in Aleksandrov’s defense he wasn’t very positive for his own gymnasts in this interview.

Kseniya Afanasyeva also promised to fight for the all-around. What chance does she have?

Kseniya has a very good floor routine, but everything depends on vault. All the American girls fighting for the all-around will have Amanars. They have problems on the other events, but none serious enough to be called holes.

Not really an insult but keep reading

Speaking of problems, do you mean less-than-ideal execution on bars?

They do have weaker bar routines and their execution is weaker, too. Their bar routines are more stable, but compared to our girls, they are behind.

Are they not light enough?

You know, everyone has their own system of preparation. The Americans have more strength and they are bigger. We have choreographers in our gyms for example working with girls. In American they choose stronger girls and they don’t have choreographers working with them except on the higher levels. So our gymnasts have more of the winning look. Everyone has their aces and we need to keep up. We beat them two years ago, and now we have had a dip that we have to fill as quick as we can.

Got it. Your gymnasts look like winners but they aren’t ?” (:)

What he said isn’t “wrong” per say but it just sounds like sour grapes. Then again is it really an insult if he is right? Except the whole execution thing.

  1. JAS4 Says:

I wonder if Nabieva will be on the team or if he is just trying to scare her into getting back to work and I think he wants Kseniya to get an Amanar it sounds to me like he is trying to scare most of them into upgrading and working harder since even though the Russians have a lot of talent they don’t have the depth of the USA so he is basically trying to scare the girls he knows he needs into upgrading working harder

    • gymtruthteller Says:

He needs two strong vaulters to round out that team and maybe a consistent beam worker.

It sounds like he thinks Nabieva is lazy. She is boy crazy so she could be deciding what is more important to her. Stupid teenagers:)

      • JAS4 Says:

Perhaps they could use Nastia now if Only she could vault lol then there would be none of the American girls getting screwed for her lol

      • gymtruthteller Says:

She never could vault. Her vault was from 1996, 14 years before the vaults she competed

      • JAS4 Says:

Yeah if it wasn’t for her d score on bars making up for her vault she would have never been in contention for the AA although if she does indeed go through with competing at classic/nationals/trials I really wouldn’t be surprised if she does a FTY or 1and1/2 so she can say she is an AAer again

      • Sandy Says:

Nastia wouldn’t even think ONCE about going for the AA again. She was the Olympic champion in ’08 and doubtful she would want to return to that particular competition because that’s how she wants to be remembered (the ’08 Olympic champion, not the ’12 Olympic team member who went for the AA and failed). NO WAY would she even be able to lift a candle to Mustafina/Komova…even Weiber. The ’08 Nastia would barely be good enough to make the ’12 US team as an all arounder to be honest, considering that almost everyone is able to perform an amanar these days.

The only thing Nastia has her eyes on is that gold medal in the uneven bars. Even that is a bit far fetched given that Mustafina is capable of a 7.0 D score (and so is Tweddle, right?)…Komova is really good too as we all know. If Nastia doesn’t swing a 7.0 D score bar set in nationals and/or trials, she has NO BUSINESS showing her face.

    • doughnut sundae Says:

“[Tatyana Nabieva] is having a really challenging time right now… She has been ill a lot with colds and fevers which have taken their toll on her. When she doesn’t train, she gains weight and of course, that leads to problems. We let her skip training camps for a while, and she is at home.”

I’m sure that is a polite way of saying, “We showed her the door.”

  2. Jen Says:

I think a little got lost in translation there. “Winning look” could be interpreted as “winning” in the “winning smile” sense.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I got the impression he meant presentation, artistry and overall quality.

    • Shawn Fan! Says:

His comments that our gymnasts are “bigger” is especially rich. I, for one, is really happy to see the trend of muscular, healthy gymnasts. Komova looked like a 60 year old chain smoking grandma after she finished her FX during AA at Worlds ’11….

      • Gymbee Says:

Couldn’t agree more. I enjoy watching healthy Americans over an emaciated-looking Komova or Khorkina.

      • Aerial Says:

The funny thing is, we actually have more senior “thin”, child-like figured athletes right now than often in the past. Maroney has a very Mcnamera-type body, Ross is a toothpick, Gabby is totally ripped yet still slender – so a bit of both in her case I suppose. Aly is muscular, Jordyn is muscular yet more sleekly toned, and we haven’t seen our muscley buddy Shawn in awhile.

Bross has the weirdest body. Even in regular clothes, I’ve never seen anyone with those legs. It’s quite amazing she previously was awarded high scores with those crazy sicked feet in order to be able to keep her feet together. I guess they cut her slack because her feet are far wider apart than her thighs and they saw the massive effort she took to put her legs together. Even after her brutal injury and time off, girl is ripped to the bone through that leo.

I know Russian athletes are often lean with seemingly little obvious muscle tone. I know they’re heavily into ballet training from a young age, which I like, but sometimes I’ve wondered how their body type or lack of visible muscles helps support the extreme skills they do. Kinda like Chinese athletes pre-96… commentators openly remarking on how they don’t have the right body type – or train more effectively – to help them on vault and floor. Being 4 feet tall also was a factor there.

Anyways… it’s not the days of Karolyis and Parkettes anymore… wonder what Arkayev thought then, he must have been wanting to throw himself over a cliff in comparison to them bulky muscles!!

      • Aerial Says:

** meant to type Bross has crazy SICKLED feet, not sick feet, haha.

  3. nero Says:

Will Russia have any Amanars come London? The only one I can even remotely see doing one is Komova, but with her ankles IDK about that. Mustafina will no doubt push her body to have one but I think that is a VERY bad idea. That thing was scary when she was in tip top shape.

    • JAS4 Says:

I think the best thing for them to do would be to make sure they have really clean DTYs and maybe one or two Amanars if possible but preferably not from Mustifina or Komova and they can try to make up for it on the other three events and as for the AA if Komova and Mustifina have very clean DTY it won’t hurt them too much as long as they are really good on the other three events

    • Shawn Fan! Says:

from watching the jesolo videos, did anyone else catch the original amanar, simona? I saw in the youtube comments simona was there but I couldn’t pick her out from the crowd

    • Sandy Says:

I read that Mustafina is training an amanar (landing in foam though) and there’s a lot of pressure for her to perform it come the Olympics. Same with Komova since she was capable of one before. I’m not sure what Russia will do in team finals (are their bar scores really “that” much higher to make up for USA’s vaults?), but after what happened in ’11 worlds I highly doubt Mustafina and Komova will want to perform clean DTY vaults over the amanar. Both of them really want that gold medal (and to stick it in USA’s/Weiber’s face) and knowing that doing a DTY automatically gives 0.7 more of a point to their competitor is a no-win situation. It affords NO room for error going forward in competition and the vault is typically the first apparatus performed, which goes in team USA’s favor because it’s not like Mustafina/Komova can wait until the last rotation before deciding whether or not to go for the amanar. Sadly, a badly landed amanar vault is still scored close (sometimes even higher) to a clean DTY vault. We all saw Cheng Fe sit down her second vault in event finals at the last Olympics and still win a bronze medal (which I am STILL scratching my head about!!!)

      • nero Says:

I agree completely, I think the vault judges have dug themselves into a hole they wont be able to get out of come the Olympics. The fact that Nabieva’s and Mustafina’s amanars were getting 15.6-15.7 at 2010 worlds solidified my standing that Maroney should be getting at least a 16.2

Jordyn’s vault I think deserves a 15.9-16 if she does them like she did at SCAM and Pac Rim and Maroney’s are obviously better and if she goes to the Olympics sticks that vault cold I would riot if they don’t give it a 16.4 because she DESERVES IT

But vault judges have not differentiated enough between
Great amanars (Maroney) good (Wieber) and atrocious (Nabieva) Russia will push for them even if they are ugly/scary because they’ll get at least 15.4s

  4. JAS4 Says:
I saw this on twitter of Anna Li I think it’s a few years old cause Marta would probably freak if she saw her do this now it’s pretty crazy but looks like fun though lol

  5. newbie Says:

mathematically – how much advantage do you think Russia has on bars over the US??

Assuming Mustafina & Komova are in top shape… isn’t Russia pretty much able to make up the amanar advantage US gets on vault??

I know the American team is deeper. But start value wise I feel like come London the teams could be pretty close.

    • nero Says:

I don’t think it’s as big as people might assume. Musty is working on a 7.0 bars set right? So let’s say all 3 Russians have 7.0 bars, Gabby is working on a 6.9, Bross has a 6.5(?), Kyla and Jordyn have 6.3s but I think both might upgrade a tad.

So the lowest bars D score the US would count might be .7 less

On vault I think it’s a very strong possibility that Russia will count two or even three DTYS so that’s 2-3 .7 less in start value

I wouldn’t be surprised if USA’s average on vault is a 15.8, especially if we have Maroney. Will Russia be able to match that with an average of 15.8 on bars?

      • newbie Says:

A 15.8 average on bars does seem pretty tough to get. What’s Finnegan’s D score on FX?? I keep trying to figure out who would be the third floor worker if Ross doesn’t upgrade much…

      • Sandy Says:

Bross has a 6.2 on UB…that will HAVE to increase if she wants a shot at making this team. Gabby can do a 6.9 apparently, and it will be expected of her if she makes the team. I’m not sure what Kyla has on her bars but her execution is typically so high that she can still score easily in the 15 range. If Shawn shows up with a 6.9 on bars she might surprise some people. Then again, if Nastia proves she can achieve a 7.0 that will help…and that will buy her a ticket for sure (and Bross and potentially Maroney or Raisman will be crying hard on the sidelines, forever banning hot pink from their closet drawers)…

I’m thinking consistency-wise Maroney can score a 16 on vault, while Ross and Weiber can score in the mid to high 15’s, easy. If those three make the team, their vault can cover Russia’s bars, and Ross, Douglas, and (Shawn? Nastia? Bross?…even Weiber?) can try and score in the 15’s on bars to make it even closer. It really comes down to that third bars person Marta decides to take.

Mustafina can do a 7.0 and has proven it during Russian championships. I don’t think all Russians will have a 7.0, but it will definitely be in the mid 6.0’s at the least I would assume. It will be close, but I think the answer is yes, Russia can definitely match that.

  6. JAS4 Says:

Apparently Maroney has more floor upgrades planned

    • Aerial Says:

Woohoo! Hope so🙂 She is one of the girls that I will be legit sad if she doesn’t make the team. Good luck to her!

  7. JAS4 Says:
Valeri Liukin interview after Pacific Rims

Gotta love how he basically admits Nastia couldn’t vault and in around about way says she wasn’t an AAer but that Ohashi is more of an AAer since she can actually vault lol and he basically says not a whole lot going on with the Nastia training unless he is trying to hide something lol

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I wouldn’t put it past Valeri to be down playing Nastia. There is no way he would be honest about her.

      • JAS4 Says:

Yeah I think that Valeri’s plan is to basically make Nastia a one event person I wonder if she is really even still working beam and floor

      • Sandy Says:

I’ll believe it when I see it.

      • Aerial Says:

I’ve noticed her tweeting is now NEVER about training, setting goals, etc. anymore (whereas it appears the continued journey is Shawn’s only focus on twitter.) In fact, Nastia seems to be only tweeting social things and photos… maybe to make it easier on her psyche or publicity when she doesn’t make it, like she didn’t really try.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

The last few Nastia tweets I saw she gave some tweet about not being believed in and something about doing what you love. My impression she was trying to make people think she is still training but no one believes in her. I don’t read her tweets a lot.

      • JAS4 Says:

Yeah who knows with Nastia lol she could just be training Bars hoping that if she can just show bars Marta will put her on the team

  8. JAS4 Says:

    Mustafina interview

    • Shawn Fan! Says:

oh mustafina, you wear those Nike’s but you ain’t no Shawn Johnson! And those are not Amanars you are vaulting!

      • Sandy Says:

Shawn Johnson has sure been quiet lately, with the exception of tweeting about being in LA…hopefully she’s training hard, because I really would like for her to surprise Marta…sigh.

      • JAS4 Says:

I hope so too she needs to be decent on beam and vault but she really needs to be fantastic on bars and floor to make the team because most likely those are the two events she would be used for unless there were injuries

      • Sandy Says:

I am PRAYING she comes in with a 6.9 start value and KILLS the competition on bars (with the exception of Gabby)…then she could be used as the potential other bars specialist with the three AA’ers Ross, Weiber, and (crap, I’m thinking I really like Finnegan now…, what is wrong with me??!)…but Raisman totally needs to go too.

Is anyone with me in feeling that five per team is crap and it should go back to six or seven for the Olympic team? Sigh…

      • JAS4 Says:

Yeah they need to go back to like 6 or 7 so you have room for your AAers and some specialist like Maroney whole could win gold on vault but isn’t as strong in the AA

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Right now I am fine the 5 member team. A 7 member team means Nastia could fall 3 times and be put on it. That can’t happen.

With a 5-3-3 0r 5-4-3 it actually makes more sense for smaller teams.

      • Sandy Says:

I’m going to challenge that and say let’s go total ’96 old school where there’s a 7-member team, ALL of them HAVE to do compulsories (or whatever they were called) and then it’s 6 up 5 count…or 7 up 6 count…we get to see more routines and there cannot be ANY specialists. OH and even better – top seven all around scores at Olympic trials get to go to the Olympics. No closed door meetings, fuck Marta, and nobody can get away with being a specialist. That way we could have Maroney still make the squad and Nastia wouldn’t have a chance in hell.

        Anyone with me???

      • gymtruthteller Says:

If we are going top 7 AA I am with you.

It pains me you called compulsories, whatever they are called

Who would be your team then?

        Jordyn, Kyla, Aly, Mckayla, ??????

      • JAS4 Says:

I like that idea on a 7 member team I would say Jordyn, Aly, Kyla, Maroney, Shawn, Gabby, Finnegan, and Probably Bross if she was doing AA

      • Shawn Fan! Says:

I don’t understand why the team went from 6 to 5? does anyone know the rationale? In a sport where the window to compete is so narrow….if one even gets to compete at an olympics, why would they take away the opportunity for the 6th gymnast?

I’m actually rooting for the younger girls (Jordyn, Kyla, Gabby, McKayla, Aly, even Rebecca) to make the team. I’d like to see everyone get the chance to experience the olympics.

Ofcourse it all depends on how they score at the upcoming competitions, but my picks for the team are Jordyn, Kyla, Gabby, Aly and McKayla. The international judges went crazy for McKayla’s amanar and she put up I believe the only 16 during TF at ’11 worlds… would be such a shame if the team does not include her.

      • Sandy Says:

My “Magnificent Seven” 1996 (but really, 2012) team would be: Jordyn, Aly, Kyla, Mckayla, Gabby, Finnegan, and SJ. Yeah I know I’m leaving out Bross but I absolutely H-A-T-E her gymnastics. It’s like I’m watching a robot. The girl needs ballet training, stat – and yes, better legs as well but she can’t help that. Poor thing.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I like Mustafina. Her twisting form is atrocious but she is the first real AA gymnast we have had since 1996.

      • JAS4 Says:

Yeah when she was in top form she seemed to be solid on all events the closest thing to a weakness would be vault but she still had an Amanar which Jordyn is pretty solid on all events but bars is definitely her weak point but she usually does ok

      • Sandy Says:

You have to admit though Weiber OR Johnson in 1996 would have blown away the field in terms of AA gymnast (even my fav, Shannon Miller)…I have to at least argue in the case of SJ. She’s really good at bars and I honestly felt never was able to reach her true potential (hoping she can do this in the near future). She has great form. Her beam speaks for itself…yeah her amanar is a little sketch but nobody really was doing those in ’96…

I actually kind of hope Mustafina wins the AA in London. If not her, then someone from the US. I really like how Mustafina trains two vaults though (or at least did) so that she was a contender in ALL FOUR event finals in ’10…if that’s what you mean by first real AA then OK I get it.

And P.S. I’m starting to really like Sarah Finnegan. She has what Raisman/Bross do not (artistry).

      • gymtruthteller Says:

They might have but training in 1996 compared to now is different. The equipment is even different. Imagine what the 96 vaulters could have done with the new vault? Even the beam and floor have better springs in them.

      • Sandy Says:

I didn’t realize that…well, with the exception of the vault (curious why they did that anyways??)…it’s like how swimming has evolved with the “faster” suits. I even heard the beam used to be real wood and now it’s the bouncier/nicer whatever-its-made-of.

      • Shawn Fan! Says:

it’s unfair to compare gymnasts from different eras, in addition to apparatus changes, I think rule/point changes make comparison unfair as well

  9. newbie Says:

Shawn Johnson chat last night… thoughts??? She seems pretty confident, I’m getting really excited to see her. The only thing making me doubt this comeback is that she isn’t planning on competing at the Classic…

    • JAS4 Says:

Do you have a link to that? I didn’t know that she wasnt going to compete at classics did she say why? If she isnt she better have fantastic routines with good d scores if she wants to make the team

      • newbie Says:

in the video she just says that nationals is her priority?

      • JAS4 Says:

Thanks🙂 I will check it out but if she said her focus was nationals then maybe if she is planning on going to classics maybe she is just planning on only doing a couple of events like a lot of girls did last year instead of doing the AA there maybe she is just going to do beam and bars there to be easier on her knee

      • Shawn Fan! Says:

oh my gosh, loved the interview! such a huge shawn fan, and her giddy giggles are priceless!
Does anyone else get the sense that the intense pressure to make the olympics isn’t there, and she’s just really enjoying her training andexperience.
Worst part of the interview, that one rogue question about nastia…..ewwww!

      • Sandy Says:

She’s in good spirits that’s for sure. Should be interesting now approaching ’12 as an underdog, whereas in ’08 she was the “it” girl. I didn’t get much out of the questions concerning gymnastics (I mean, who cares really what is her favorite snack??? geez!) other than she IS going for the amanar and she has some beam upgrades (I would bet she’s going to add a full twist in her last layout on her tumbling sequence, a la Ohashi…)…does anyone know why she has to be so secretive on what she’s training? Maybe it’s an obvious answer…but I’m still curious. Is it so international people can’t find out or her competitors within the states don’t find out?

SJ has always been really well-rehearsed when it comes to the media stuff. Her response to the Nastia question was perfect – “haven’t talked to her recently, but hope she’s doing well and I’ll see her at camp.”

She’s hugely popular obviously. I still am leaning towards the whole idea if she hits and does fairly well @ nationals and trials, Marta will be almost coerced into placing her on the team simply for the sake of keeping the sport of gymnastics popular and well-watched, at least during the Olympics. It’s a four-year sport for most, so the “celebrities” of these types of sports is really important in keeping the public watching and keeping them interested. The last “big” gymnastics celebrity was probably Kerri Strug (and that was because of ‘THE VAULT’ and not anything else) and before that Merri Lou.

Another example of the importance of celebrity in this type of sport, anyone notice how almost right after Michelle Kwan retired or took a break, ice skating sank in terms of popularity? It used to be a major sport in the US, especially during the Harding/Kerrigan thing, but now nobody really watches it and the US hasn’t been able to produce anyone really “sparkly” for years. I don’t even watch it anymore, and I used to follow it as closely as I currently follow gymnastics. I honestly have NO CLUE who won worlds. I should go look that up.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Carolina Kostner won worlds and I had to think for a minute before I could

When Michelle left skating I left skating. I like Mao and Yuna Kim but not enough to watch them every competition.

  10. Aerial Says:

I listened to the whole half hour chat… instead of going to the gym. I think I need it slightly more than Shawn haha but now I’m in the know about her shout outs and liking of fish sticks.

I was surprised that this early, she’s publicizing not going to Classics… after Marta has said she needs all potentials competing at the remaining meets. I thought at least the ‘comeback kids’ would pretend till the last minute they were going to Classics even if they’re not. Plus, Shawn competed last year at Nationals and did great for her amount of time back training elite gymnastics… what is she waiting for?? She looks great physically and must have progressed leaps and bounds (literally) in her skills and routines. And I have a fear of her being ready to make the team but falling or something on the Trials out of fear and crushing pressure since it’s gotta be the most awfully nerve-wracking meet of all time. Without any prior competitions in this year to warm her up in competition mode, I’m worried about that.

Also… so this is juvenile but I have to ask. She stopped tweeting long ago and posting pics of her Iowa Hawkeye boyfriend, I just assumed that was over, so why does she now say she can’t tell people whether she has a boyfriend or not? So she doesn’t have to admit the breakup after previously willingly posting about him, plus photos? I know that wouldn’t be easy, but for all those assuming she’s still getting Hawkeyed, just seems weird to suddenly be saying “I can’t talk about whether I have a boyfriend or not.”

PS. Do you think all the questions were coming fast???

    • JAS4 Says:

I wonder if maybe they are still together but he doesn’t want any of the publicity mess so they don’t talk about their relationship on twitter or if she is just pretending to be in a relationship but not saying much about it to avoid all the pervs asking he out and all

      • JAS4 Says:

Or perhaps Marta frowns upon it and she is keeping her mouth shut about it as much as possible lol

    • Shawn Fan! Says:

well, if she did breakup with Iowa Hackeye, who is soooooo incredibly hawt btw, I could understand that she wouldn’t wanna publicize it. I mean, when I broke up with my boyfriend I didn’t exactly announce it to the world.

didn’t shawn have a stalker a while back? maybe she’s being more guarded about her personal information now.

anyhoos, I would take a few months relationship with Iowa Hackeye, than being Evan Lyzacek’s beard (wink wink).

      • Sandy Says:

I think she’s been told by her agent to lay low on the personal stuff because of the lawsuit; who knows if that wacko is in jail or not, but if he gets released you never know, and you never know about other crazy people out there who would go after the boyfriend because they think SJ is their wife or whatever.

Also, she may have realized that by exposing her personal life she was only putting more stress on her relationship. SJ is a pretty smart kid (I’ve always thought so since I started following gymnastics again; was pretty impressed on how she handles herself, even at a young age of 16 – for instance you can already see the huge difference b/t SJ at 16 and Gabby at 16…SJ has shown maturity throughout her career for the most part). It doesn’t do a celebrity any good to air their personal life.

That said, she kind of put herself in a bind by posting stuff about him earlier. If she says “no” to the boyfriend question, then people will ask about him. If she says “yes” then people will want confirmation it’s still him and then want to know who it is…better to just say “I’m not going to say if I have one”…

Maybe she writes about him in her new book and she’s not saying anything so we’ll buy it for $19.99.🙂

      • Aerial Says:

You little fishsticks are all so smart.

I think they’re not together anymore, and as Shawn Fan! stated, she’s obviously not keen on sharing that. She never tweets him (even “as a friend” – sixth grade speak there) and have noticed that holiday, New Years, etc. pics show her celebrating with a friend or lamenting having no plans. I’m sure she was heartbroken when it happened, yet all girls should be so lucky to have appearances, sponsorship deals, training and conditioning 24/7 to keep them hugely busy and still doing exciting things.

Admittedly have preordered both SJ and Moceanu’s books to start my summer reading. I loathe those crappily-written tween gymnast bios written from fluff pieces on TV books of the 90s, so am hoping for a little more bang for my buck on these.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I refuse to buy Moceanu’s book so you will have to come tell us what it says. I know more about love then Shawn so I think I will skip that book

      • Sandy Says:

        LOL good one gymtruthteller

      • JAS4 Says:

Anyone good at match making? I think someone for real needs to get all middle school on Shawn and Tebow = perfect athletic celebrity couple lol

You can count on me for some top quality book reviews. I think both are being released in June. Since Moceanu’s promised to be controversial and Shawn’s focusing on her physical comeback following the Olympics, I thought they sounded worth a cottage-side chance.
And oh yeah, I don’t need love advice from Shawn either, that actually made me have a real LOL. I’m a decade older and happily married but can’t help look out for the youngins or at least question what they’re discussing publically.

I think the question were coming that fast. Hard to read a scrolling screen, and I think it surprised her. New experience – live, not edited.

I would guess contractually she is not supposed to talk about boyfriend, just like that inked set of olympic rings. Lots of little girls follow her.

PS. Sandy, the book does promise to share what she’s “learned about love”… part of me thought, play it safe and don’t write about your new boyfriend!!! Always comes back to bite young celebs or those in new relationships, in the butt later.
However, if it’s in there, I’d be thrilled to read about it.

You’ll have to let us know how the SJ book is…I’d be curious. Tempted to order as well but was worried it would be exactly as you said, a crap-ass tweeny-bopper novel that has no “meat” to it.

I’m sure if they have broken up (which is probably more likely given the evidence of her tweets), it’s largely because she has dedicated her life to gymnastics again and what’s a college guy to do when his girlfriend is always in the gym or flying off to camp or flying to LA to promote gymnastics…plus the six-week rehab stint can’t be good on a relationship, especially when they are that young.

Hes right we are behind on barsand have been since 2004. But marta who wants to be hollie vise or chellsie memmel or tashaschweikert in 2004 and get left behind for annia hatch. Seriously in 2000 and 2004 we were weak on vault and now 12 yrs later we have too many amanars and weak bars…. The lesson here is be strong on everything or be ali raisman and risk not making an olympic team

    • Sandy Says:

Gosh can you imagine the look on Aly’s face if she doesn’t make that team after being such a stud the past two years for USA? It would be heartbreaking. It’s going to be tough enough to watch whoever doesn’t make it – with the exception of a select few.😉

      • JAS4 Says:

I would be sad if Aly didn’t make it but as long as she is healthy I think she will be on the team because even though she is week on bars she is probably the best in the USA on floor right now which is the next weekest event right now after bars and she would also likely b used for beam and possibly vault as well

  14. Sandy Says:

I agree. I’m thinking USA might be wise to leave Aly off beam (except in quals) only because she seems to not score really well there internationally because of her lack in artistry/flexibility. That’s where someone with a high D score and better artistry (Finnegan, or hopefully Johnson) can come in and fill that hole. I’d already say Weiber and Ross are locks. Same with Aly. This is barring any injuries of course.

I’m wondering if those that are left off this team (with the exception of the ’08 squad) would continue on until 2016 for a chance to be an Olympian, or will they all just give it up and retire? What a sucky sport to be in. The window just keeps getting smaller and smaller with this “five member” ruling. I would hope Maroney stays and improves (if she’s left off) and even the same for the likes of Finnegan and Douglas. In fact, I can see Douglas being exceptional in 2016 if she stays on. Kind of like how ASac showed improvement from ’04 to ’08…even though she flubbed the ’08 Olympics, she really improved her beam and floor. Anyways. I digress. It’s been too quiet on this blog lately, and I’m bored so I’m blabbering.

    • JAS4 Says:

Yeah I am really hoping to see Shawn make the team she could potentially help out on bars, beam, and floor if she has everything together with decent d scores if Shawn(with bars upgrades), Gabby, and Ross are on the team then there would be no need for really just a bars specialist because all of them are technically AAers and could be used on any event in case of injury and Weibers bars are usually decent enough that they could be used I case of injury to one of them we know Gabby and Ross are capable of scoring 15+ on bars and if Shawn can upgrade enough to do the same that would really help her chances I think it would be a good Idea if there were people on each event capable of scoring 15+ on each event like for example(if these girls have the d scores and make the team)
      Bars: Shawn,Kyla,Gabby (alt Jordyn)
      Beam: Shawn,Jordyn,Kyla (alt Aly)
      Floor: Shawn,Jordyn,Aly (alt Kyla)
Vault: Aly,Kyla,Jordyn ( Alt Gabby or possibly Shawn if she had a good Amanar)
I would feel bad if Maroney were left off the team especially since she could win Gold on vault but there isn’t really much room for a vault specialist unless she really improves floor and perhaps bars or beam I could see a lot of the younger girls hanging around til 2016 or possibly some of them doing College gymnastic and then coming back to elite near 2016
