The 2012 American cup

I probably, No I definitely won’t be up at 11.30 AM on a Saturday morning so I started this blog early.

If you would like to complain about Aly Raisman’s bar score being too high. This is the place you do it.

If you want to talk about how Jordyn or Larisa or Diana this is where you do it.

I’ll see you some time tomorrow.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi All. I had a friend stop by and we went out to lunch so I missed most of the American Cup. I don’t even know who won. I only saw a few minutes of it and I have a huge rant about NBC coming up but I will be back in a few. I am off to watch what I taped.
~~~~~~~~
My bad. Baseball season starts tonight so I will have to watch the American Cup tomorrow. I’ll see you then.

    Anyone know what channel it’s broadcast on I know the first half is on universal sports channel which I don’t have (because I have AT&T uverse) but the second half is supposed to be on NBC but when I checked the guide to record it I didn’t see it.

  2. missy Says:

    why do I even bother watching when we know Wieber is gonna win. Over at IG ppl are already complaining about our fave commentators

    • Sandy Says:

      Wow I didn’t even realize overall Gabby Douglas has more difficulty in her routines combined than Aly/Jordyn do. I completely counted Gabby out before, and think I spoke too soon on that. She is very much in contention of being on that London team. I have to say Aly’s bars look somewhat improved but I really wish she’d just point her damn toes!

  3. katieelizabeth87 Says:

    Gabby is just… I love that kid! Her new bars is beautiful! Even her fx is improved. She had a new energy! And that Amanar! wow!! So proud of her!!

    New team prediction:
    Jordyn
    Aly
    Gabby
    Kyla
    Sabrina

    All events are covered, Marta gets to use Sabrina (lol) 4 great all-arounders battling it out! I think with Gabby and Kyla it’s (somewhat) possible for Jordyn to not be in the London AA. Not likely but possible!

    • TCO Says:

      I’m thinking same, but sub out Sabrina with Bross.

      If Maroney gets the triple, could make it interesting. Otherwise, I think the best vaulter in the world is being left home. If she does get it, things will get very interesting.

  4. katieelizabeth87 Says:

    I think Maroney & ASac are staying home!! If Jordyn can now outscore Maroney there, I mean seriously!

    Someone else on this board said it, and I agree: I just think Teodora & Sabrina seem way too confident. With those 4 all arounders, and Marta being able to legitimately say that Sabrina stepped up in Tokyo, and all events being covered…Sabrina is going to make this team. She would probably contribute on 2 or 3 events in prelims and maybe bars OR beam in finals but I think she makes it.

      Scores from American cup and apparently Gabby’s exhibition score was higher than Jordyn’s score Gabby reportedly had a 61.299. Which is good for Gabby everyone on twitter is saying she should be the American cup champ but their not taking into account that she was just doing exhibition if she had the added pressure of actually competing. That being said Gabby, Jordyn, and Aly’s scores were pretty impressive. Although after this it wouldn’t surprise me if Aly and Jordyn up their D scores even more! It will definitely be interesting to see!

      • exgymgurl Says:

        She WAS competing because Marta was there watching. To me it’s worse pressure because if you fail they say, oh no pressure so no foul she did a good job. She does an amazing job and its the same thing. Scores are scores. In NCAA you earn your way into the rotation by exhibition and getting the judges to score your routines. International judges scored her routines higher than Jordyn. If I’m GD, every meet is olympic trials. Every chance is the one where I have to prove myself. Say what you want. She laid down the scores, and Jordyn again had a mistake on bars.

        To me, its tougher to be the alternate and prove yourself. Has the alternate ever outscored the “champion” ? My guess would be NO… and the fact that USA Gymnastics doesnt mention this in the article, only what GD’s scores were makes me think that they want the story to be that Jordyn won, not that GD has higher scores.

        Spin it however you want……if Jordyn hadn’t made the mistake on bars, she outscores GD, but Jordyn did not have a perfect meet. Either way, GD outscores Ali Raisman…. and that just puts the biggest grin on my face….

  5. Exgymgurl Says:

    GD competed as an alternate, finished 0.2 ahead of Jordyn an so doesnt get the title… Outstanding

  6. Shawn Fan! Says:

    Gabby was so amazing! Got the whole stadium going with her FX routine.

    • JAS Says:

      I look for Jordyn to be really increasing her D and E scores now because for awhile there as for competition from her teammates she was pretty much in a league of her own but now she has Gabby, Aly, And Kyla nipping at her heels for the top all around spot but I look for Jordyn to keep improving granted that she stays healthy she could still have the top AA spot but she is gonna have to keep upping her game!

  7. Biyatch Says:

    Need to keep in mind that scoring here was pretty inflated for the US women.

    Aside from that, we saw the very reason why Aly will be on this team. She hits. Could have totally lost it on beam but kept it together. Bars might not be pretty but they are improving and she got through the routine. Which NBC had showed her vault.

    Did anyone else think Jordyn’s floor was lacking that “it” factor, the sparkle for lack of better term, that she had last year.

    It will be very interesting to see what the assignment coming up for PacRims and Jesolo are.

    • honeychile Says:

      First of all, I love your name lol!… I did notice too that there was a weird vibe in the whole building today. I can’t quite put my finger on it. But since I’m sort of an “insider” in a way, I don’t want to say too much, but yea. Inflated scores for the women and the men (one man in particular)

      • JAS Says:

        I would like to see them mix it up a bit for Pacific Rims and Jeselo! Like maybe for Pacific Rims have Jordyn, Gabby, Bross, Vega and for have Kyla, Aly, Shawn, Maroney and fill in the last spots on each team with the Caquatto sisters or perhaps Nastia (if she has anything ready) or Wofford or some of the others on the national team that we haven’t heard much about.

      • JAS Says:

        If Shawn has her Amanar back then I would say switch Vega and Maroney that way there would be three Amanars on each team

      • tulip Says:

        Hi Gabby’s sister! She knocked it out of the park today!

  8. nero Says:

    I bet Alicia and Shawn are watching their counterparts in the gym going ‘fuck’
    A core of Jordyn, Aly and Gabby would be super
    add in bars from Kyla or Rebecca
    Maroney’s vault possibly
    Those six would make the most epic team…too bad it’s only five

    Martha seems to think GD was under pressure 🙂

  10. TCO Says:

    Gabby is for real. And even looks physically stronger.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

      She has always been skinny. I hope Marta isn’t starving her to death like she does to everyone else.

  11. dd Says:

    My comments did not show up. I’ll try again.

    Gabby was over score the whole meet. Her beam was bobble skill, bobble skill and I saw her bars and vault on GGMB. Her vault was short and she took a step back.

    NBC needs to fire Al Trautwig. He is a embarrassment. Her kept talking about how embarrassed Jordyn should be because Gabby had scores that did not count but were better scores then her.

    Aly got a gift on bars. Jordyn even a bigger on on bars. Same ole American Cup.

  12. K Says:

    They were international judges.

  13. annonymous Says:

    Gabby was exhibition. I would have loved to have seen how she would have done without being an ‘alternate’. If they wanted to give her exposure for real, why didnt they pull Aly and put in Gabby? I know it goes by World AA placement, but still. Marta could have done that.

    I’m still not impressed with her. Get a new floor routine and then we will talk…that NCAA crap that she flops around to right now makes me gag. As for her beam, the commentators flipped the screen to her doing her routine and said “this is the routine that pushed her ahead of Jordyn”…and then showed her wobbling all over the place. Really? I sort of wonder if she wasnt overscored just to catch Marta’s eye.

    As for ASac and the rest of the ’08 team, I feel like I’m on repeat, but…it’s over for them. As for people who think Maroney will be left at home…well…I remember last year Marta said Maroney never even caught her eye until she had that beautiful vault, and now she sees her as a contender in the AA. I used to think that there was no way she would be left at home, but now there might be a chance, since everyone and their brother seems to be doing an Amanar now.

    All in all, I felt like there was too much pressure on Jordyn, and the vibe I was getting from the arena was off…almost like someone had said to Jordyn before she went out there that she ‘had to win’.

  14. Taylor Says:

    IF nastia shows good bars and beam sets at nationals and trials, my olympic team is:
    Jordyn (vt, ub, bb, fx)
    Aly (vt, bb, fx)
    Mckayla (vt, maybe fx)
    Gabby (ub, maybe fx)
    Nastia (ub, bb)

    if nastia doesnt have routines to contribute on those events, i dont know who id give her spot to.
