I wasn’t impressed but it is February so no one needs to impress now anyway.

That being said Rebecca Bross looked like crap. She was her usual aggressive self on beam but I will never get what it is about this girl that impresses people. She is worse then Carly Patterson when it comes to being robotic but at least Carly had a little bit of rhythm to her on her best event. Rebecca is just clod hopping skill landed low after clod hopping skill.

On bars her form was worse then usual. You would think with all that time off on the power events she would have worked on her execution and technique on bars but she didn’t even swing the bar well.

I know. I know. IT’S FEBRUARY!!

I know the world loves Katelyn Ohashi for her potential but I think she has lost a lot of the spark she had as a junior gymnast. Technically she is still a junior but she has grown a lot the last year. The rhythm and flow she had seems to be disappearing too.

Her beam skills are looking more secure but she isn’t going to credit for some of her connections if the judges are being fair.

Her floor had a lot of messy landings and she flung a couple of passes.

I will give Valeri a little credit. The scores were not scam cup worthy like I expected but then again his Princess Nastia didn’t compete. Then again I just compared her scores to other scores and she was generously scored compared to others.

Nastia was apparently rude to some autograph seekers last night. I read somewhere her shoulder was sore so we now have #NastiaExcuse#1

:Sore Shoulder

Here is Madison Kocian on bars. She hit almost every handstand near perfectly except two. She had several form breaks from the calves down and one big leg separation. I had originally had this as the most impressive routine of the night but I changed that when I saw a better version of the video.

Here is Simone Biles, Amanar. This kid has power.

Her floor was blah presentation wise and her double layout wasn’t as impressive as her vault but she has potential on these two events. It’s too bad I see her in College more then as successful elite.

I know this is unrelated but does anyone know who’s competing at pac rims or jesolo this year? I don’t think its posted yet but I was jw.

    • annonymous Says:

I’ve been waiting to find out, too! Maybe the teams were not picked yet. I’m sure Marta wants to have 10,000 training camps before making a decision.

  2. Exgymgurl Says:

Thank you …. Bross could have worked form while hurt

  3. TCO Says:

You little hens need to stop clucking. Go chase each other around the farm or something. Grrr.

Bross is looking strong. She is going to kick some butt. Gaby, sorry baby…that spot is Bross’s now.

Bross will just get better as the season goes on.

And she is out there doing stuff. Not Nastia-hiding. Bross is in the mix. And had some pop. Did not look so tired.

    • Sandy Says:

Actually, I was a bit impressed how far Bross has come on beam given the injury (except the Patterson of course – I have NO IDEA why they don’t change that; she’s NEVER been consistent with it!

Bross’ form will always be ugly. She can’t help it. Her legs are so knob-kneed I can’t help but feel sorry for her. They should have taken her to some ballet classes when she was younger so she could have made up the bad form with some grace in her upper body; unfortunately that did not happen so her entire routine is robotic.

I’m going to call a spade a spade though…Bross is way better than Raisman on bars. With some clean up on beam and bars, there’s a large possibility Bross could have Raisman’s spot since vault isn’t really a major issue with everyone and their mother able to do amanars. I see Jordyn as a lock, Maroney as a lock, and with no other real room for specialists, it really will come down to who’s the best all arounder (with special focus on bars).

I think Gaby has a shot if someone else is injured. Ditto for Vega.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Her issues with her legs have nothing to do with all the leg separations she had during that bar routine. It was messy overall.

I agree she has a great shot at making the team if she has her bards at a 6.5 but watch her scores at worlds. They deduct a lot from her.

    • meow Says:

I completely agree! At the beginning, I thought it was the Nationals! She looked the same before the injury to me (the exact same leotard added to my thinking ^^).

    • gymtruthteller Says:

No one ever said she wasn’t in the mix but I have been thinking about writing a blog about what happens if gymnast A: B: C: falls all over the place at trials do they still get a spot? but I will bring the question upn here. Bross falls two out of 4 times does she get the benefit. Does Nastia? etc…

      • TCO Says:

Nastia: no way. Marta is not going to ruin the team and she has shown nothing to date.

Jordyn: still makes it on score even with falls.

        Ali/Maroney: maybe some BOD.

        Gabbi: not much

Sloan/Johnson/Memmel/Caq: no. all need to clawing way onto the team.

        Vega: see above

        Ross: maybe some.

Li: I am still baffled how she made Worlds.

        Sac: maybe

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I don’t how Li was named to the world team either. That was stupid.

      • Sandy Says:

I say write the blog – then the 99+ comments will have another place to go 🙂

      • gymtruthteller Says:

lol. This blog has been hoping lately. The Olympics are coming:)

  4. Gym fan Says:

What did you guys think about Lizz Leduc leaving Woga and joining wolf ford at zenith?

  5. missy Says:

LOL I love this post!! As somebody posted the artistry deductions on the IG thread I will have to say that fine even if you concede that Bross is great on the beam (except for her dismount) what really kills me about Bross is how her floor routine manages to score so high!! Do the judges really think that routine is artistic?? It should have at least 0.3 or even 0.5 (At LEAST) artistry deductions!!

  6. Julia Says:

    SHOCKING /not

  7. tulip Says:

No surprise about Marta. She’s as transparent as Nastia in her ego ruling the roost. As I saw someone post elsewhere- “the US succeeds in spite of her, not because of her”.I knew the minute I saw the announcement that the USOC had designated the ranch as the official training site, that Marta would never let go. Can you imagine them using the ranch and saying “Marta, we’ve got this. You’re not in charge?” I laugh thinking about it.
A major concern about her? Fear as the prime motivator in a sport like gymnastics is NOT acting in their best interests, especially when one mental slip up could mean major injury or worse.
Any chance her previous announcement of retirement was a ploy to get Steve Penny and USA Gymnastics to up the ante and pay her more? Ego- beg her to stay? Just a thought.
Steve Penny needs to grow a set.
