World Champions say whaaaat?

How do you have a photo shoot for Olympic hopefuls and leave out not one but two World AA Champions?

We don’t really know why Bridget Sloan and Chellsie Memmel weren’t at the photo shoot for Olympic hopefuls set up by NBC over the week but being it’s, NBC they probably weren’t invited.

Not inviting Chellsie is one thing. Her AA title is so last quad but Bridget Sloan is the first AA World Champion the US had in this new quad to forget she even exists is just plain wrong.

Shame on you NBC. I hope Bridget Sloan takes this slight and kicks ass at Nationals.

I think Chellsie and Bridget were left out of all of the 2004 fluff…. Plus covergirl pantene and secret acc to Shawns twitter who cares vanessa atler was in all the 2000 fluff mostly because of her agent

There is NO excuse for leaving out Bridget and using Bross. Just no excuse. One is an AA Gold medalist. The other won two AA medals WITH FALLS.

Bridget Sloan ought to thank god for Rebecca Bross’ charity. As I recall, she had to screw up on everything at the 2009 World Championships just to get this girl on the podium. And even then Bridget narrowly missed being awarded the golden medallion Becca had been so desperately trying to give her.

NBC knows what’s up: champions aren’t charity cases, they aren’t one-trick ponies, and they don’t get their brains scrambled in Florida.

What the hell is a doughnut Sounds like a heart attack in a cup.

Gymnastics is a sport. Doesn’t matter how Bridget won she still won. It is not Bridget’s fault Rebecca keeps choking away Gold medals. Okay so the second AA medal was going to be a bronze regardless but that is the sports fault.

Rebecca should thank God for the gifts she had received in AA’s because in any real code a fall would take you out of the game.

I used to like Bridget. She seemed so genuine and down-to-earth. But that determined little girl who became an Olympian doesn’t seem to be very committed nowadays. And it is hard to look up to someone like that.

She wants a college education, but does not seem to be particularly eager to get started — even with a full-ride scholarship in hand. She did not want to go to Worlds this year, but as it turns out she did… at the last possible moment. It is hard to respect someone who, in the past, has brought a spectacularly ambitious plan to fruition, but today seems to have all but forgotten the focus that is necessary to become an Olympian. With nearly everyone at that level juggling injury, academics and gymnastics (and her former Olympic teammate juggling a fiance on top of that!), she has no excuse.

I have more respect for Rebecca, who has never stopped trying, than for Bridget who has.

Bross is no different than any other gymnast. They all work hard. They all compete hurt. Rebecca Bross gets too much credit for competing hurt.

Miller couldn’t grasp a bar in 96 without breaking into tears her arm hurt was in so much pain. Chellsie Memmel swung bars with a dislocated shoulder in 2006.

If you are an athlete you are always competing hurt,

Never been all about Bridge. Her display of joy when selected over Jana (crying) was just…strange. The men don’t do that. Never liked that whole Shayla clique that excluded Shawn and Jana.

You can’t fault her for being happy about living a dream. Unless she goes all Terror Lipinski and screams like a freaking idiot. Even if she was 14.

Let’s see. If I were a super talented Russian diva at the 2010 World Championships and found myself a few mistakes away from being humiliated by a frail American girl with a stress fracture (among other things), I would have walked away from that encounter having r-e-s-p-e-c-t for my comrade with a Spetsnaz glare.

When it comes to mitigating injuries, lots of gymnasts have juggling acts that will put a Cirque du Soleil performance to shame. But not all of them end up on the podium having ferried a show-stopper. Rebecca seems to do this with frightening regularity, and this, I think, is what separates her from the rest of the field. (It says a lot about her coach too, as only a monster would allow this to happen. Between his disregard for her health and Becca’s willingness to lose it, their journey to the Olympic Games looks terrifying.)

  8. gymtruthteller Says:

Becca won two aa medals with falls. She hardly stepped up. She got lucky.

There are countless gymnasts that have won with injuries, real injuries. This love for Becca is a joke.

  9. doughnut sundae Says:

I don’t get it. What has she done that makes her SO repugnant?

I like Rebecca. I admire her persistence. And I hope her life-long study of gymnastics, in agony and bliss, will be rewarded at the Games.

Yes, she’s going. WOGA will represent at the next Olympics — Nastia’s dad will see to that. And if daddy goes off to London, so will his daughter.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I have an issue with gymnasts getting free passes for being space cadets. I have no issue with Rebecca. She seems like a great kid. I have a problem with her ugly gymnastics being praised because she trains at the same gym as Nastia.

In the 90’s it was Bela’s girls that had shitty form and code whored that no one ever criticized. Now it is Woga.

I like Rebecca’s beam. I hate her floor and find her bars overrated. Vault is what it is.
