Vote in the Inside Gymnastics poll. Lets make sure we all vote Shannon Miller as best commentator. Maybe NBC will see it and fire the idiots currently doing the commentating.
I really wanted to vote Nastia as best half ass’d comeback but since the word half ass’d was missing I voted for Alicia instead:)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here is a new article from an unapproved comment
The most interesting comment
Memmel said she and her father and coach, Andy, considered sticking around for next year’s world championships, where competition will be limited to individual events. But she decided against it, unsure she’d have the support of national team coordinator Martha Karolyi.
I am not exactly sure why she had an official announcement to retire (Non of the Mag seven did this, God even Nastia didn’t) but I do love how USA-Gymnastics has all of a sudden found love for Chellsie Memmel after you know, paying her off:)
Lets discuss? I wish she would not retire and go out with a bang but I guess training for one more Nationals would be a waste of time.
Chellsie will always be one of my favorites for her ability to shut the world up when they count her out and even with her bad form she was one hell of a gymnast. It’s too bad injuries pretty much robbed her of a chance at being America’s most decorated gymnast.
~~~~~~
What are your favorite Chellsie memories? Mine will always be seeing her in person kick some ass at the 2003 Worlds. Marta didn’t want her there but after all the injuries she had no choice and Chellsie came and proved the old bitch wrong.
That and the 2008 Olympic Trials day 2 floor routine. Chellsie was the original Aly Raisman

I first noticed Chellsie when she did her spectacular beam save in Anaheim. Most gymnasts would’ve given up and jumped off, but not Chellsie.
November 14, 2012 at 9:36 pm |
Wow, they totally paid her off. I’m sure this retirement announcement was all part of the package, and that’s why it’s not so commonplace with other gymnasts. Sad how that’s the way she went, but she probably did what ended up being best for herself, her (now previous) career, and especially her dad’s family business. She really had no choice but to kind of go along with USAG. If she went the other way and exposed them for the assholes they are, they would have just used their influence and power to drag her, her dad, and her wins through the mud. I can just hear Mary Lou saying something like “losers are the only ones who complain.”
I hated Chellsie’s gymnastics (although not as much as I hated Bross’), but her major talent of keeping her head together during pressure-packed situations really made her case as one of the best US gymnasts, ever. She ranks higher than even Gabby Douglas in my mind for this reason alone. She was like a Shannon Miller only without the grace and form – and way more injuries, to boot. But both ended up having relatively long careers (and both showed that bitch Marta).
November 15, 2012 at 1:11 am |
They did not “pay her off.” If you look on the website Shawn Johnson has a retirement thing dedicated to her as well. Also, paid her off for what? I don’t know why everyone thinks a gymnast who falls twice on the one event she is able to show deserves to make the olympics. Sorry.
November 15, 2012 at 1:36 am
They paid her off via the Kellogg’s tour; after her petition went out it was quite obvious USAG was scrambling to shut Andy Memmel up (who quoted to some newspaper sources that Steve Penny was making personal calls suggesting Chellsie “retire” and they will “make it look good for her” at Visas). So I’m sure she got a much fatter pay check from that tour by keeping her mouth shut about that whole thing – given that she went from statements such as “I’m disappointed” to basically saying nothing (after it was announced she would join the Kellogg’s tour, as if at that point before the Olympics anyone cared).
Not to kick a dead horse, but Chellsie wasn’t given a fair shot. Yeah, she fell twice on beam. Didn’t do her best. All gymnasts have those days – but this is a former World champ here, and she proved not even a year before that Secret Classics competition that she very well could be top 4 material in the US. Had she not injured herself at Visas 2011, she would have placed second to Weiber for goodness sake. It was the blatant bias on Marta’s part that caused for her not to end her career the way she should have, by allowing Nastia to sail through with flying colors to Trials even after almost face planting it on UB at Visas (which, according to the so-called “rules,” she never verified her UB routine so technically shouldn’t have been allowed to compete on UB in the first place).
I think we all know that Chellsie wouldn’t have made that Olympic team no matter what she put forth, but Marta made sure there would not be a repeat of ’08 Trials by not allowing Memmel to compete at nationals. Even if Memmel hadn’t fallen, I have a feeling she would have had the judges give her a low-ball score and rejected her petition anyways.
Basically – I think we can all agree Chellsie wasn’t going to make that team (I’m sure even she knew that), but she at least deserved a chance to finish her career in a better light. Nastia got that chance, but Chellsie didn’t.
November 15, 2012 at 1:55 am
People have short memories don’t they
November 15, 2012 at 2:01 am
Don’t be sorry but Chellsie gave her shoulder and any future she had in gymnastics for this Country if that doesn’t merit a chance to compete at Nationals nothing does.
November 15, 2012 at 3:08 am
Or gymglitterxx works for USA Gymnastics that’s my probable vote, she was definitely paid off to drop the petition / etc and any chance of making trials. When Nastia fell on her Kip I was so proud…. I mean it was SOOOO different then Chellsie falling on beam LOLz
November 15, 2012 at 6:09 pm
Sanity I agree. I respect her mental toughness big time, and while I am disappointed at her letting USAG sweep her under the rug, I understand why she did it.
November 14, 2012 at 9:44 pm |
OK I have another comment or question. I just watched her ’03 beam day 1 routine and can’t believe how much better she was when she was younger (way more interesting routines) – that might be a code reason. Anyways, she was with another coach, and they were saying she had been with this coach for years and years…so what happened? Did her dad decide to open a gym and coach her and she left her old coach behind? I’m sure she paid her bill (unlike Gabby would) but I wonder how that all came about. Kind of sad since it sounds like her former coach gave her all of her dance lessons and really spent a lot of time with her…
November 14, 2012 at 10:01 pm |
In the podcast interview she says after Athens that her and the coach weren’t clicking like they used too. She wanted to go easy and relearn skills. I couldnt believe that she had to relearn a hindroff and that doing a DTY scared her a little.
November 15, 2012 at 1:25 am
Interesting – thanks for the insight.
November 15, 2012 at 12:47 am |
I too appreciate Chellsie for her mental toughness. That is something that separates the great ones from all the rest and this girl exemplified it. I wish her the best.
I wonder what some of these girls that have had soooo many injuries will look like in 20 years. Surely that catches up with you at some point.
November 15, 2012 at 3:10 am |
I had heard that Chellsie’s old coach was promised to early on that he would be able to take her on the international elite circuit but her dad decided to grab the limelight and fired her old coach. It ticked the coach off enough that he went into retirement for a while but it seems like he is coaching again on the east coast.
November 15, 2012 at 3:10 am |
Chellsie Memmel is a BAMF… period plain and simple. She never gave up. She didnt falter in team finals at the Olympics like ASac did, and if she had been well, or had just pushed through more like Jordyn, I’m sure she would have been up in ASac’s spot for Beam and Floor in TF and the 08 team would have had gold… No falls, they would have won…
November 15, 2012 at 7:02 am |
Chellsie at ’05 Worlds!
November 15, 2012 at 7:36 am |
Thank god somebody’s writing about something that’s relevant.
I will vote for Shannon if I can figure out how to do it.
Sarah!
November 15, 2012 at 9:48 am |
She worked out at le fleurs before deciding to train with her dad instead. I vaguely remember hearing something about it being due to wanting to be coached by family/be closer to family/ responding better to her dads methods. I think she felt more relaxed and loved at M&M where both her parents were coaching, and her 2 sisters were gymnasts.
November 15, 2012 at 10:57 am |
Speaking of her sister, is Skyler still training elite? Haven’t seen or heard much about her lately.
November 15, 2012 at 12:21 pm |
chellsie has been a fighter through and through. her actual gymnastics wasn’t necessarily my fave but i have major respect for her. i think it’s pretty disgusting that she was bullied into retirement after trials but i guess USAG treat their gymnasts like a commodity and considering it was an olympic year, they were all just a means to a big, fat gold medal end. i have no idea how much the younger ones have insight into that but chellsie and her dad knew that and i understand why they have kept quiet. they have a business to run and need to stay in USAG’s good books to remain viable.
voted for shannon! i really liked her and steve robilliard’s commentary on the youtube olympics channel. was great!
November 15, 2012 at 8:11 pm |
I voted for Shannon too. I hope she continues to do commentary for future competitions.
November 16, 2012 at 7:41 am
i hope so too!
November 15, 2012 at 8:02 pm |
For the category “Who would you like to have lunch with,” I voted for Nastia because I want to ask her, to her face, WHY DO YOU ACT SO BITCHY?
November 15, 2012 at 8:06 pm |
I voted for ASac on the lunch thing. I’d totally ask her why she didn’t do that vault at Trials, and why she is no longer as chummy with Nastia.
I love Shannon Miller but I’d probably end up sticking a fork in my eye if I had lunch with her.
November 16, 2012 at 3:29 am
Ooh, that’s a good reason to vote for ASac. She’d probably be more likely to tell since she’s not on Marta’s good side. I think Shannon would be too sweet. I want the gossip!
November 16, 2012 at 7:42 am
i said mckayla. so i could tell her to stop instagramming so much! and get gossip lol.
November 15, 2012 at 8:07 pm |
All I could find out about Skylar was from 2011, and we all know a lot can happen in a year.
was she traveling with chellsie on tour?
I think her family want their children to have as happy and normal a life as possible and I think they pull back from grueling training programs.
Chellsie was not home schooled and went to public high school and was trying to have a balanced ife
November 16, 2012 at 12:06 am |
Someone needs to ask Anna Li since she’s an Olympian, why wasn’t she invited to the White House. Lol.
November 16, 2012 at 1:26 am |
Kyla is the only one dressed casual.
November 16, 2012 at 3:34 am
Hey where’s Geddert? I mean if Steve Penny is there … LOL
November 16, 2012 at 3:51 am |
why does jordyn always wear massive bawings, it makes her look bigger than she is
November 16, 2012 at 3:53 am
on a similar note Aly still hasn’t realized that an A-line dress is her best friend.
November 16, 2012 at 3:54 am
Mckayla and Kyla seem to be the only ones who have worked out to dress their body types
November 16, 2012 at 6:21 am |
Who’s the chick in the blue, behind Aly?
November 16, 2012 at 8:02 am
Savannah Vinsant.

Photo of US Gymnasts at the White House today. What the heck are those outfits some is them are wearing?? McKayla, Kyla, Gabby and Aly for instance? Jordyn looks nice and appropriately dressed for the White House.

November 16, 2012 at 4:20 am |
Gabby had to wear a red dress and red shoes??? She is beyond tacky!
November 16, 2012 at 5:04 am
For a gymnast’s mother, you sure have a lot of nasty things to say about these young girls. I bet you wouldn’t be very happy if someone talked about your daughter like you do about these girls.
November 16, 2012 at 6:07 am
I actually thought Gabby looked better than her other appearances. Not tacky but cute. I’m totally disregarding her personality here. I wasn’t a fan of Jordyns damn bat wings (taken from another post) or her bright lip stick and wasn’t a fan of alys all black look (funeral?) …and McKaylas style did not suit her personality; it was a bit boring. Kyla was meh too. But hey they are young. What I really want to do is punch Penny in the face. He just has one of those faces if you know what I mean…
November 16, 2012 at 6:20 am
usually Gabby dresses really awakward for her shape, she never defines any ‘waist’ so she just looks up and down, so I actually really like this dress on her. It gave her hips.
November 16, 2012 at 7:40 am
sorry gymom but i totally disagree. i adore jordyn but she looks dressed like an overweight 40-something. it’s like the dressier equivalent of “mom jeans’ or whatever. she’s got a hot body and she should emphasise that! im not saying she should dress skimpily, but more know her proportions and how to flatter her figure instead of hide it under drapery.
i think gabby, mckayla and kyla look cute and age appropriate. i can’t tell what aly is wearing but it looks better than her usual choices.
November 16, 2012 at 12:45 pm
I think Gabby looked good, not tacky at all.
Agree with mim about Jordyn.
And sanity, haha, you are so right about Penny! That made me laugh. I cringe when I see him.
November 17, 2012 at 4:29 pm |
Obama not impressed with Mckayla, so never underestimate the power of this girl.

Did anyone see this?
“Guess who’s getting her own leo line!? “I am so honored & excited to have my own line of leotards with GK,” said Douglas in a statement to GK Elite. “Expressing my personality and love for gymnastics through this collection is a great way to share my creative ideas. I will be really proud when I see other gymnasts wearing my designs to practice!” The Gabrielle Douglas Signature Collection will be available for sale in 2013.” (From TCG on Facebook.)
The leo they showed was really pretty, too – too bad it’s wasted on Gabby. I would never buy it for that reason.
November 16, 2012 at 1:26 pm |
The complaint I had about Gabby’s dress is her constant need to be outshine everyone else…can’t miss her in red head to toe.
Aly is wearing some kind of leather skirt? They would have looked better wearing their Olympic warm-ups? Meeting the President warrants a certain kind of apparel, in my opinion. Yes they are young and in need of adult guidance still.
November 16, 2012 at 7:32 pm
I am surprised it isn’t gold.lol
They all look fine but none of them accept Kyla have any style. She dresses like every other kid21 you see the rest of them need stylists pronto.
November 19, 2012 at 7:45 pm
Not this president it doesn’t. Gabby’s dress is yucky. What is that ruffle thing in the middle?
November 16, 2012 at 7:22 am |
Didn’t see this posted anywhere. Here is a gymcastic episode where they interview Chellsie. Be careful, open this link and it will play automatically!! http://www.gymcastic.com/podcast/episodes/gymcasticepisode9.mp3
And also…still love Mckayla. The part where she is talking about her and Sandra having to run and pee is hilarious.

I listened to this but had to skip over some it because they were drooling over some gymnast-epke zonderland I believe who did a Gaylord 2.But I liked the topic about the us competiting at more international meets.
November 17, 2012 at 12:04 am |
Dion’t ever skip anything about Zonderland. He is so fine lol.
November 17, 2012 at 12:32 am
He is cute but I don’t do messy gymnasts and his highbar is full of hard stuff done badly
November 17, 2012 at 2:30 am
Oh yeah but does he have bedrooms eyes like Jake Dalton? Lol
November 17, 2012 at 3:06 am
lol
November 17, 2012 at 12:28 pm
i can put aside his gymnastics because zonderland is ridiculously, ridiculously good looking.
November 18, 2012 at 11:18 pm
Thank you Mim! Now that is a man that makes you want to say amen :p
GTT you don’t think he deserved the HB gold? Plus isn’t he training to be a surgeon? Mmmmm…
November 19, 2012 at 12:45 am
Not really. A lot of great skills done with shitty form should not be rewarded. I actually thought the second Chinese guy that finished 4th had the best routine overall.
November 20, 2012 at 1:00 am
Hmmm. No points from you for pushing the envelope eh?
November 20, 2012 at 1:01 am
NO, Ugly gymnastics done badly is still ugly gymnastics and for the record I am happy he won because he seems like a nice guy but if Aly Raisman’s form is atrocious than it is. We criticize her for it he should be criticized as well
November 17, 2012 at 1:03 am |
I can’t get past Spanny’s voice. It is not made for listening. Also that had some weird gymnastics cheer which I didn’t get at all.
November 17, 2012 at 1:04 am |
they not that o.o
November 17, 2012 at 1:34 am |
I am not a big fan of people that think they are funny when they are not. They are not funny, no one on that show is and they don’t realize how some things they say are stupid.
November 17, 2012 at 12:30 pm |
i don’t think i’ll ever stop believing that spanny is a gay man. even though i know she’s a (now pregnant!) woman.
November 17, 2012 at 3:13 am |
About Memmel – I was never a big fan at the time – rather the many times she competed, but in retrospect, I truly admire her career, quick comebacks, ability to compete and hit, etc. in between all the injuries. I also admire the girls that are a little “buglier” who just continue to compete for the glory of it and despite more negative attention than positive. If you look at her achievements and what she was competing at the time relative to other people, it’s truly impressive. I’ve needed the reminders over the past year about this.
Also. I was at the tour a week ago, and it’s true that Memmel was competing more difficulty than the Olympians… and the others that were doing comebacks at the same time as Memmel. In that way, the announcement is a little sad, as she really seems ready to go, and that’s based on her performance in the dark, with flashing lights and in cheesy outfits. It’s just crazy what her body allows her to do despite injury record, age and training time – she is a crazy natural talent. Unfortunately, just not very aesthetically appealing. I was really impressed. Her skills were also performed very cleanly – considering it’s Memmel, and that it’s the end of a post-Olympic, kind of shammy tour.
Bross also threw a lot of stuff, but her form, handstands, etc. were not so strong. Weiber also had the highest difficulty of the Olympians… Gabby surprisingly was performing single layouts, etc. in her floor routine.
November 17, 2012 at 3:44 am |
That is it. You don’t have to be a fan of the gymnast to appreciate the person, the fighter, the girl that just did not stop.
I have said this before if Memmel had worked as much on her execution as her skill level she would not have been beaten by anything but injuries.
November 17, 2012 at 8:00 am
Chellsie is definitely one of the toughest if not the toughest US gymnast of all time! And as for the picture at the White House with Penny I keep waiting for his BFF Tom Cruise to pop up in the picture next to him lol
November 18, 2012 at 11:19 pm
JAS Penny and Cruise know one another? That’s creepy.
November 19, 2012 at 5:27 am
Yeah there was a picture of Penny and Tom together around Nationals/Trials I think but it could have been the Olympics lol
November 19, 2012 at 7:09 am
tom’s getting into USAG’s good books so little suri can be on the 2024 olympic team lol.
November 17, 2012 at 12:47 pm |
So the tour is over on Sunday.
Who’s staying for another worlds or Rio and who’s going only to never be heard from again? That’s the million dollar question
For some reason I’m wondering what Rebecca Bross will do.
November 18, 2012 at 12:59 pm |
i kinda hope rebecca just chucks the gym career, goes off to college and finds something else that she loves and excels in. she seems like a really nice girl, but for some reason i feel like pushing on with gymnastics would only end disappointingly.
i saw a recent photo of the girls who are at camp. i think the triple twist blog posted in.. most of them would be in contention for worlds i guess! im curious who will be competitive for worlds besides kyla. im thinking mckayla, aly and jordyn will give it a crack too.
November 18, 2012 at 7:33 pm
All of the girls at camp are elegible for Rio. For 2013 worlds the main girls elegible are Priessman, Desch, Biles, Ohashi and Ernst. For 2014 the main girls are all of the above plus of course the already seniors and then Hundley, Schennikova and Hults. Fairly sure Dennis and Buecler too. 2015 brings Key. 2016 Hernandez.
‘My’ 2013 worlds team is Ohashi, Priessman, Ross and Biles with Priessman and Ross doing the AA. Alts are Price, Finnegan and Desch.
November 18, 2012 at 11:23 pm
Rebecca is down to appear at a gala soon, next weekend I think.
November 19, 2012 at 12:01 am
I side with Catherine except replace desch with finnegan as an alternate.
This crop of new seniors Im looking forward to.
Btw when do they usually announce who will be appearing at scam?
November 19, 2012 at 12:05 am
I meant to say my only two alt are finnegan and price. Not so sure about desch yet.
November 19, 2012 at 7:12 am
i’d love mckayla to vault at worlds but im thinking simone is much more realistic at this stage. i’d love sarah finnegan to do beam at worlds rather than katelyn, it’s such a gorgeous routine. kyla on bars, lexie on floor. kyla and lexie for AA.
wont happen though. there’s no way katelyn is being left off the worlds roster!
November 17, 2012 at 7:48 pm |
favorite Chellsie moment ever http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAIwf6PDbCg This video sums up her entire career. She always proved everyone wrong. From 2003 worlds where she went from an alternate to a 2 times world champion, to 2006 when she pretty much won this team medal for USA while competing on 3 events with an injured shoulder and when her foot totally missed the beam and she didn’t even wobble, to 2008 where she stuck a double front on a broken ankle Chellsie has always been one of the fiercest and most determined competitors out there.
November 18, 2012 at 1:21 am |
Not sure if this was stated above, but I’m really happy that Chellsie announced her retirement for herself. I’m surprised USAG posted it on their webpage, though, since they ran around last summer saying she retired. I think this is a win for Chellsie b/c it just proves the liars USAG were when they announced it “for her” last summer as a way to calm down all the bad media. Imo, she deserves any recogintion USAG will give her after the crap Marta pulled last summer.
November 18, 2012 at 8:41 am |
Obama not impressed with Mckayla, so never underestimate the attention-drawing power of this girl.

why does steven penney lurk in EVERY photo? Uggh… I dont think any of the 2012 girls besides Kyla will be at 2013 worlds. Jordyn doesnt have a gym or a coach…..
November 18, 2012 at 11:21 pm |
Is that confirmed about Jo Exgym?
November 18, 2012 at 11:36 pm
Shes no where on Gedderts Twistars page anymore and hes stopped doing interviews about her…. What do you think? I think he got a termination / cease and desist letter.

and the minute I said that her likeness is all over the Twistars page
November 19, 2012 at 4:42 am |
Just saw this on tumblr, I’d watch a Maroney Izbasa reality show.
In a recent interview with “Observatorul militar”, Izbasa revealed what went on behind the scenes with Maroney. After winning the gold medal Sandra Izbasa whispered in Maroney’s ears “ I told her she shouldn’t feel sorry for getting the silver . She will definitely win gold in Rio because she is the best vaulter in the world.”. Izbasa went on to explain what happened to her “She was just overwhelmed. I remember seeing her come back from the gym and thinking she looked different. Both the coaches and the public had put a lot of pressure on her by telling her she had to win on and on, that she was the best… OK, this is the American attitude, that’s how they encourage each other but I think that, at 16, she didn’t have enough experience to be able to handle such pressure. She probably looked at the competition the wrong way and everything went the other way around.
November 19, 2012 at 7:17 am |
i love this. sandra genuinely seems lovely and supportive (even if i found her gymnastics in floor boring this time around lol). such a classy competitor. i love that in her surprise gold medal moment she still found it in her to reassure mckayla rather than just revelling in her own happiness.
the story about sandra and mckayla rushing to pee for their drug test was amusing too lol.
November 19, 2012 at 5:24 am |
Doesn’t look like anyone except for Kyla is going to be back in the gym for awhile! I wonder how long the next tour will last?
November 19, 2012 at 5:33 am |
Is McKayla starting to her acting career?
November 19, 2012 at 7:18 am
i think she’s going to try to juggle both? i vaguely remember reading they want her back for hart of dixie again at some stage. but she seems adamant that she wants to keep training. moreso than the other girls i think (besides kyla).
November 19, 2012 at 7:24 am
edit: just read the article, so i guess mckayla is definitely going back on hart of dixie. not sure about her acting chops, but i figure she’s probably upping their ratings a bit more than usual. she’s lucky to train in LA that she could potentially do bit parts here and there in between training. i know she said she’s keen to work more on floor so she isn’t just known as the “vault girl”…
any more news on jordyn? i think she’ll start college instead of focusing on worlds.
November 19, 2012 at 6:08 pm |
I’m pretty impressed Kyla flew Wednesday night to DC for the White House visit, to Texas after on Thursday for the national team training camp and then to New York on Sunday for the last show/NYC appearance. Thats dedication. I think as long as she doesn’t break we’ve got to assume that she’s 1 of the 4 spots on that Worlds team.
November 19, 2012 at 6:14 pm |
Yeah and given that Marta has likely been “trying” to break her these past two years, it’s a good sign that she hasn’t yet. Her coaches and parents have all said how physically strong she is, so I’m hoping Kyla can have the longevity Shannon Miller did (only without the injuries).

Im no walking encyclopedia of gymnastics moves but Ive been wondering what type if upgrades Kyla can do on bb, ub, and especially fx to make her a contender in the next quad. I think her DTY is fine. No need to kill herself doing Amanar. With her body type does anyone think shes capable of adding in a DLO or double double to her floor?
Should she take out her double layout dismount on bars or do a double twist DLO?
