They need to figure something out with their hair…it’s like they all are too used to wearing it in a ponytail or bun and have no clue what to do with it down…especially Maroney! And the makeup was ATROCIOUS on both Maroney and Vega. Oh well. Gotta laugh with them, not at them…they all work hard, one at least one of them is bound to have their little hearts broken come July. So sad.
I watched a portion of the Nastia video. Two things:
1. Girl definitely takes time out for that spray tan.
2. She said she’s “not traveling AT ALL anymore” and is back to practicing “seven hours a day, six days a week.”
I still don’t believe it.I gotta see it to believe it. Was she NOT just traveling for crap in the last four weeks???
P.S. there are a lot of videos with Shawn Johnson in them. Doesn’t help if her “PR” people want to make a case to the general public to not be surprised if she doesn’t make the 2012 Olympic team.

They brought their own clothes to this. So yes, they all need their own individual stylists, or USAG/NBC/ whoever’s paying need to actually dress the girls for the photo shoots, etc.
The other problem is, I always find these photos and videos shot poorly. They manage to make tiny girls look hulking in size or they pose them wrapped in a flag like it’s a bathrobe lying on a beam. Tacky, tacky, tacky… I’ve never seen such cheap sports promos as the ones this year for gymnastics.
But I guess I’d rather them than nothing!

You know, valid point Nero. However I do think fashion has seriously improved and also that youngsters are dressing the same as adults more and more these days. (Well, not mom-jean adults, but you know what I mean.)
I just pictured my school picture at 16 – curled bangs, shiny lip gloss, cherry red jeans and rainbow-striped ribbed shirt. Awful picture and yet all of that stuff was seriously the style then.

Anyone catch up on Mustafina’s recent tournament? I don’t know what it was but I caught her routines. She did a 6.5 D value on bars (she can do a 7), her vault was really high (she’ll probably get an amanar in by London), her beam was good but her floor was still pretty shaky. Hopefully she gets it in time for London but she’s doing a ton of twist elements on floor and personally I hate her form when she does those.
Not to change the subject. Anything but the thought of Nastia and her stupid stoic face.
OH, and Komova grew her bangs out.

I love the Russians this year. Everyone’s playing the hype over team USA but I really feel it’s the Russians gold medal to lose. They will have at least two amanars, spectacular bar and floor work, and their beam sets usually score higher than US women for lack of artistry.

I like the Russians too but their form on vault is atrocious. They make Aly look like Shannon Miller in the form department on that event.
I think the US’s vault will be wiped out by the Russians on bars which leaves floor and beam as the events to decide the gold medal. If the Russians have 3 falls at the Olympics like they did the year they won worlds they will not be winning the gold medal. Mustafina cannot win it alone. Komova needs to step up and Grishina needs to get consistent.

I think shape-wise, Nastia looks better and better (I guess that’s what happens when you actually start training for real) and is looking slender. I don’t think she could ever be her former wishbone self again (she was even skinnier than I remembered when I recently saw an ’08 clip) but I’m sure in person my calf would be the width of her whole body.
Routine-wise… I have no idea… I hope Marta is no-holds-barred on her comments after this weekend’s camp to give us some insight on the comeback kids.
I feel like Chellsie and Sac are different than SJ, NL and Bridget. A couple months ago both the former could not even train at all and they recently had major surgeries. I just don’t see how they could be where someone like SJ is who competed last year and this year and has been rehabbing forever. I don’t doubt Chellsie can surprise but I just have this feeling those two were too late in the game this year.

I DO NOT understand why no one has stepped up with this huge bar routine. Someone has to be capable of a Tweddle like routine? Chow is in the right direction with Gabby on bars. Her bars have some late handstands but if I can’t find a big complaint with the routine no one can. If she keeps hitting this routine and screws up every event she will make this team easily and no one else can figure this out?
