We all like to make fun of the American Cup calling it by its nickname the Scam cup. It’s a tradition like hiding eggs filled with candy on Easter or opening one present on Christmas Eve but this months IG Magazine has decided against putting either of the winners of the Scam Cup on their magazine and instead has decided to further its own agenda by putting the winner of the Nadia Comaneci International Invitational on the cover instead of either winner of the of the Scam Cup.
Canada’s Kristina Vaculik won Nadia fluff competition. I have nothing against Kristina I was as mad as everyone else when Canada cheated her out of her Olympic experience in 2008 and I would have no problem if Kristina being on the cover at any other time but the bias going on at IG Magazine needs to be called out.
Do you ever wonder why certain gymnasts are loved at IG but others are not? Well it isn’t to hard to figure out you have to be connected to one of the owners.
The reason Nadia gets so much play at IG Magazine is because she is married to co-owner Bart Conner. The reason Dominique Moceanu was plastered on the cover more then any other gymnast in history is because Paul Ziert is her publicist. At least that is what he was listed as on usa-gymnastics.com a month or so ago. Ever wonder why Nastia has always been a saint? well Valeri Liukin has been best friends with the owners since he came to the United States.
Back in 1996 Paul Ziert was part of the group that tried to start their own tour. Lets just say that USA-Gymnastics wasn’t that fond of the idea (they didn’t want to share the money) and Paul Ziert has been bitter ever sense. This is why he is still trying to get back at usa-gymnastics. He can’t do to much because his bread and butter needs the US gymnasts to sell their crappy magazine.
I am not a subscriber of IG Magazine and stuff like this is why. Paul Ziert has ruined IG Magazine but trying to further his own agenda over good gymnastics coverage and as fans of the sport we should all call him out on his bias. We as fans deserve better coverage of gymnastics not just the parts of gymnastics that make Paul Ziert and Bart Conner money.

I’m with you – and the bias wouldn’t bother me so much if it wasn’t for the mediocre coverage and reports.
Do some real, in-depth features that are worth reading and maybe I’ll re-subscribe one day.

I wish to Goddess Glenn Sundby hadn’t sold IG to Paul in the first place. We’d still have a good magazine with great articles if that had happened instead.
I remember the World Gold Tour fiasco, and Paul was constantly bashing USAG in his articles then, just like he does now. So, yeah-it’s about their agenda, not IG. Which is why Paul needs to let that magazine go-as long as he’s the owner, it’ll never be what it used to be-GOOD.

I agree Doc but he will never sell it and if he does he will sell full control to Bart. I don’t see it getting any better if he does.
